662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can happen next time due to a lack of proper knowledge about Bitcoin? on: November 16, 2023, 09:48:22 AM
Your worry is not far fetch but it is still unlikely to happen right now because by the time those stuff happen, it is likely that there is a lot of people that already knows about bitcoin or even cryptocurrency. When there is more people that has an adequate knowledge on bitcoin or cryptocurrency then the more the adoption grows and when the adoption grows more then by that time we will probably see banks being decimated and becoming obsolete but the people are not that heavily affected because as I have said, the adoption is already widespread.
663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Disadvantage of bitcoin on: November 16, 2023, 09:15:04 AM
With the constant reminder of many bitcoin users, I am sure that there's no way that we will ever forget about having back ups on our wallets too many stories of lost bitcoins due to forgetting their wallet's password to having their funds stolen because they stored it in a custodial wallet and with all of those stuff, I don't think that people are forgetting to have back ups for their wallet. I don't even know why people that don't have their own wallets are still using bitcoin, having your own wallet is like part of the experience of using bitcoin so don't waste that experience.
664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some rich person not interest about bitcoin for following reason on: November 16, 2023, 08:39:04 AM
He is right but why haven't the people with a lot of bitcoin sold any? Some continue to accumulate even with a significant amount.
Probably fattening the goose much more, I think that is the only logical reason why they still have not sold their bitcoins yet, they have seen it go up to 69k USD last time so they still think that there is a possibility that bitcoin is still going to go up so they still have not dumped their bitcoins yet. It's a good thing that they are just accumulating yet because that means that they are not ready to cash out yet, these whales are probably accumulating more bitcoin and are planning to sell it like they are cashing their retirement cheques.

There is no point in forcing your friend to be interested in buying Bitcoin because it is not a failure for you if he is not interested in buying because it could be that he does not find anything interesting or something that can benefit him because as the title you mentioned is that your friend is a rich person, because if you read many threads on this forum, you will find more average economic people who are interested in buying in the hope of making their money increase sharply, or it could be that your friend just doesn't want to express his interest in Bitcoin and actually already has that, just a secret because he doesn't wants others to know that he owns Bitcoin.
Totally agree, and it seems that OP respects his friend's decision and the reason for not investing is pretty valid in my opinion, I mean it's scary to be a victim of a rugpull and OP's friend probably has a previous experience on this kind of stuff and it was a bad experience so that friend has learned the lesson and not invest in any kind of stuff like that again. The friend's reason that there is only the whales that are accumulating and gathering a lot of bitcoin is just an added reason why that friend doesn't want to invest in bitcoin.
665  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying at 35k? on: November 15, 2023, 03:00:55 PM
What price are you planning to sell your bitcoins or how long are you planning to hodl that bitcoin that you've been buying?
Pretty good questions for self assessment in my opinion but I think that OP can do just fine with answering only the first one, having a target price makes it easy for you to decide if the current price is worth putting in more bitcoin or not that other question seem unnecessary to me and I don't see the point of asking that besides trying to justify hodling for a long time.
There's something about investing fully into bitcoin at this current price that makes me feel like it's for rich people who want minimal risk and very little return on investment.
I don't think little return on investment is the best thing to describe investing in bitcoin right now because 35k is so low for me given how high bitcoin was the last time. That something you are thinking right now is probably just you being judgemental about other people's choice during the current price and there is nothing wrong with that, you are probably thinking that they are not getting their money's value or that they might be buying at the wrong time due to the possibility of the bitcoin price going down.
666  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull season started? on: November 15, 2023, 02:08:11 PM
Federal agencies are like dinosaurs when it comes to making decisions, so don't be surprised when they move very slowly with the approval process. Also, the SEC is not in a rush to approve any Bitcoin ETF, so all this price rising and hype surrounding ETFs is premature, and it will potentially cause a bunch of mini-hikes and mini-dips for the next year (or at least several months).
Can't really blame them, with all bureaucracy in place, I don't think that it's going to be a fast moving process. I've worked in a government agency before and even if the effort that we put in to finishing on time, we're always going to be held up anyways because other departments take their time and they are also asking for approval from other departments and most of the time, these department approval have to be signed by the head of that department before letting it loose into the other departments asking for it, that's why the word Kafkaesque is invented I guess? I'm curious as to what's going to happen when it's finally approved though? Will it be a big hike or the other way around?
667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hong Kong regulators might allow spot ETF on: November 14, 2023, 10:07:32 AM
Every country is going to have to offer their people a Bitcoin spot ETF in the future. Not doing so would be hurting themselves financially and their future prospects. Even though Vanguard claims they never will, I’m sure they too will not be able to resist the fees and cries of their customers to bring a Bitcoin spot ETF product to market.
I am sure that is going to happen but the companies that should be asking people to get into this would definitely not try to sell it to the people, just like they have been doing for a long time now with their other investment ventures or schemes, they won't advertise it. I have learned too late that you can earn while your money is in your bank account by subscribing to a investment where you and other people that uses the bank gives the money to some sort of investment manager and you all collectively own a stock but you don't manage but you all get a percentage when it goes up and you get losses too.
668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What lies ahead for Bitcoin in the coming days? on: November 14, 2023, 09:26:16 AM
~

If you have strong belief about this possibility, then start collecting more satoshis if you have extra funds to use.
Because such positive prediction will only matter if you have your own stash when the price starts to increase.
As we are seeing these days, we finally see the 30k level again and it seems 40k is in the horizon.
I am way ahead of you on that advice, I have 50% of my salary put into bitcoin no matter the prices, I know that even if I feel like I'm getting less value when I am buying right now, I still feel like I can get the profit because I am for the long-term in bitcoin so just hodling until I feel like selling is always going to be the best thing for me. I just hope that you're right about 40k being on the horizon, December can be a bad month too and if that is the case, we might see no recovery even until January because that is a particularly bad month for crypto.
669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every man you failed to lecture about Bitcoin can be a victim to scam on: November 14, 2023, 08:25:09 AM
Don't put that burden on me my guy, if I fail to tell them the stuff they need to learn is not because I failed to teach them but because they've ignored me and my "lecture" and most of the time, I don't think that I am not giving them an information overload anyway so I don't understand how I can be too boring and worth ignoring, most of the time I tell the basics of bitcoin and how it works and then tell them the negative parts of it and then I tell them to explore it themselves. Now if they don't ask for my advice when they're exploring on their own, that's not on me because that says that they are better than me already.
670  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In Panama 77y Old Man Schoots 2 Protesters Blocking The Street! on: November 14, 2023, 07:20:36 AM
People should learn how important other people's life is and they cannot just take it easily because they will surely pay for it when they murder those people without any rights to do so. We always need to consider every possibility not to take life or not to hurt others because killing is the worst thing you can do to a person who has no intention to kill you. Now that has happened, I wonder what will the government do to this guy. Will he go to jail for the rest of his life or he will be punished more than that?
Tell that to that psycho who killed those 2 protesters, that's probably the most awful reason to kill someone and at best it's an inconvenience. Dude, no need to consider murdering someone, murder is such a deplorable thing to do and if you ever were to do that is because you are cornered and you are out of options like going to war and also murder is something that someone will never be able to come back to so be ready that you will never be the same when you do it. If it's a no contest litigation, he will probably serve the normal sentencing for murder but if this evil piece of shit fights the court the there's a chance that this piece of shit will probably get a lighter sentence.
671  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Health Benefits of Gambling on: November 14, 2023, 06:29:02 AM
I think the effect is temporary though. I mean if you used gambling as a stress reliever, definitely it will work but for how long? Maybe just a couple of hours playing and then you lose money? Same with it improves your mood, when you gamble it might release some chemicals like Dopamine so you really feel good about yourself. But then again, the same question, how long will you feel that good mood?

So not really sure if we can call this as health benefits because the effects is for a limited of time only.
It is temporary, and those benefits listed is definitely going to be experienced only when you're gambling so it's not that much of a benefit at all. There's other stress relievers out there! Gambling shouldn't be the go-to thing for that kind of stuff, has anyone here heard of videogames? Some of us definitely have the money to buy a decent computer to play games or buy a PlayStation 5 or an XBox so you can play games that will relieve your stress, sure you have spent some money setting those up but compare that to gambling, the money you have spent you would be thankful that you have made the choice to set up a gaming stuff instead of just gambling.
672  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can somebody make a successful career in gambling on: November 14, 2023, 05:51:37 AM
Depends on what part of gambling industry you want to be part of, programmers and web developers for online casinos and slot machines are high paying I think, being a dealer on online or offline casinos can be a lucrative career too, just need to have a really good hands for smooth card handling. If you're talking about being a player though, I think you're going to have a hard time because gambling is a game of chances and probability so it's going to be difficult for you to become a professional or even make a career out of your gambling habit, unless you are really good at some of the games that involves some skills then there's a chance that you can make a career if not a successful one out of gambling, careful though as there's probably better ways to make a career for yourself rather than gambling, gambling as a means to make a successful career should be your bottom of the barrel when it comes to making a career again unless you're a pretty good at gambling in the first place.
673  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Best Practices for Staying Safe When Gambling on: November 12, 2023, 01:18:46 PM
~
Yes, every gambler will try to recover money when he loses. Be it an addict or a non-addict it is a common thing for which we can never say it as a main reason for addiction. It takes more than a few symptoms to determine whether a gambler is addicted or not.  among these main features is that those who spend long periods of time in gambling are more likely to become addicted. When a gambler spends more time in gambling than usual he is bound to become addicted. Moreover, those who have high expectations in gambling are also more likely to become addicted.
No, I don't think it's a common thing for casual players, casual players imply that they can stop whenever they want to unlike addicts that will try their best and do anything that they have to do to gamble again and I didn't even said that chasing losses is the main reason for addiction, yes it does take a few symptoms but when one shows, shouldn't you consider doing something about it especially if that symptom you're talking about is chasing losses because it's damaging to that person and the person around them financially.
674  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambler avoiding friends after a big win. on: November 12, 2023, 12:19:31 PM
~
With the conclusion of your opinion just now, in my opinion the winner should not be like that, it is better for the winner to keep quiet, don't tell other friends even if they are good close friends, because something like that could happen. The winner will only be empowered or exploited/taken advantage of by his friends because they know the new winner has a lot of money from gambling, even though the winner must have experienced a lot of losses before and it would be better if when he wins the money is only used for himself, such as saving or investing. for his own needs.
So in my opinion, winning or losing is only us who know and feel it, not other people, even if they are close friends.
That would've worked if they didn't know that you've won but in this context, it seems that they knew that the dude won so no point hiding in their situation but you're right about that stuff though. Yes the possibility of being exploited by their friends goes up but I'm sure that it differs from person to person, if you're the kind to be easily intimidated into giving something and that you can't stand to not give them because you feel like your bound by something that's not your obligation then you're likely to give money to those friends but if you're the opposite then all luck to you because you can stand to leave them when you've got a big win.
675  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: November 12, 2023, 10:03:17 AM
To some degree yes but for me to decide if they really are a financially literate person when it comes to using credit card, I think that I have to know how they use the credit card and how they can take advantage of it because there's an advantage to using credit cards especially if you know a few tricks to them. If they are using the credit wisely by paying the credit due on the right time to prevent interest rates from creeping in and maximizes on the perks of the credit card like airline miles then I would probably say that they're financially literate at the highest level in my opinion although I would still consider someone to be financially literate even if they don't maximize the perks of having a credit card, paying your credit card on time is still the most responsible thing that you can do.
676  Economy / Economics / Re: How Much Does Food Cost in Your Country? on: November 12, 2023, 09:20:07 AM
Here are some Turkish figures as of Nov'23, keep in mind that food used to be much cheaper but now some items are even more expensive than their European counterparts because of disastrous economic policies by the government, and specifically corruption in the Agricultural ministry...

Ground Beef (1kg): 13-15 USD (depending on the city)

Sour Dough Whole Wheat Bread (800-900 grams): 1.3 USD

Free Range Egg: 0.2 USD

Tomatoes (kg): 1-1.5 USD (depending on quality)

Chicken Breast (kg): 6-7 USD

Olive Oil (1lt, extra virgin): 8-10 USD
Don't the Turkish lira experiencing a bad inflation right now? This could mean that this rate that you're talking about could be much bigger now which is kind of sad for the people that just wants to eat and make an honest living, I can empathize with you in regards to the corruption in agricultural ministry, it's the same thing for my country albeit I can't really say that what we have is much worse since you didn't share any details but in my country, they don't care too much about farmers and a lot of municipalities are trying to create artificial inflation so they can sell their food hoards for a much higher prices and not to mention that the national government doesn't help a lot in terms of subsidies for the farmers so they can afford the necessary stuff for farming like feeds for the cattle, fertilizer for the crops and such and the agricultural department don't want to find a way to make sure that farmers are getting fair price when they sell their services on the market and the consumers end up shouldering the burden of expensive food cost in the country. A decent meal for a day would probably cost you around 10 USD even if it's a home cooked meal.
677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bull run best time to promote Bitcoin related affiliate programs? on: November 12, 2023, 04:12:12 AM
Definitely the best time because people want a piece of the bitcoin pie and they got to make sure that whatever happens, they need to get in and the other thing is that the positive movement of the bitcoin market is a good justification for these programs to tell the people that they're trying recruit or seduce into joining their program, the hype that they sell to these people are going to not look like a hype because the market is doing fine and so people won't see it as a too good to be true or a hard sell to get them into that program. This is also the times when scams that use bitcoin as a mask to their true intentions are on the double, they've been doing it ever since and I don't think that we're going to see any subsiding of those kinds of scams so hopefully people are ready for these kinds of stuff, those scams will always be easily identifiable anyways, just ask them directly if what they're selling you is a scam and if they get mad then you know it's definitely a scam.
