721  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone been using Pyypl? It seems a potential virtual card can use crypto as wel on: November 17, 2023, 01:28:44 AM
I'm not sure if partnering with Visa means they partnered with PayPal though. This partnership term they use is also a bit misleading if, at the end of the day, they just registered their service so that they can use the Visa network to process transactions like any other debit card. CMIIW.

The comments regarding their service also don't instill much confidence. Looks like a new user better wait before they start registering new accounts.
722  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and War Crimes? on: November 17, 2023, 01:08:56 AM
A similar thing could happen during a war, war will stop fiat financial facilities and it will be difficult for us to access our money in banks. It is possible that they will choose Bitcoin again because it is safer and cannot be frozen
It will also depend on the scale of the war. Unless it is catastrophic, I believe any price movement would be localized in the local market. And if there is infrastructure failure, it could also affect Bitcoin unless most users don't rely on the internet to make transactions. Not to mention liquidating their existing coins will become difficult too. I wouldn't be surprised if some people decide to trade their coins below the market price to get daily necessities.

Unfortunately, the media will always paint Bitcoin or crypto as this terrorist financial source that if removed will kill the group completely. This might also affect Bitcoin or crypto prices if the propaganda is really strong, although that doesn't seem to be the case right now as far as I can see.
723  Other / Meta / Re: Is this quality of life idea? on: November 17, 2023, 12:53:13 AM
I never see myself needing this feature. It might help newbies avoid scams, but they can easily do it by confirming or double-checking the website of said coins/tokens. It might also help people who are too lazy to type the right name (e.g. Bitcoin), but that's that. Compared to the cost and probably controversy around them, I'd say it is not needed. Google is just one tab away anyway.
724  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Using Bitcoin / cryptocurrency to buy goods and services on: November 16, 2023, 04:01:14 AM
Is your products just a placeholder? The price and pictures are similar, and I don't understand what's the difference between each of them other than the names. Maybe the coffee is different, but it is hard to tell if you don't put it up front unless I'm not part of your market. As of now, it just looks like you use popular influencer names to create your products.

I second the opinion that targeting the global market is quite a stretch for your product. Even if the local coffee market don't accept crypto, I don't think they will go out of their way to use your service just because you accept BTC, especially if the shipping cost, taxes, et comes into question.
725  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: World wide fee estimation getting wacky? on: November 16, 2023, 03:42:33 AM
You can give https://whatthefee.io/ a try, in my opinion it's quite close to mempool.space. Needs maybe a few brain cells more to understand and interpret properly...
There is no documentation at all? I can do some guesswork but it would be better if the owner gave some documentation to avoid misinterpretation. I guess we can give suggestions if the owner has a thread here (or Twitter, if anyone still uses it). Personally, I wouldn't recommend this to newbies.
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to maintain proper security measures paying by BTC for an expensive items? on: November 16, 2023, 03:24:09 AM
This one is good!
The latter part usually doesn't apply if you don't use a multi-currency wallet or an exchange. If you use one, I'd argue that you should move your coins asap if security is your concern. There have been multiple reports related to multi-currency wallet which shows they are insecure most of the time, such as privacy key leak, hijacking, etc. Not to mention most of them are closed sources to begin with. Not a good choice if you're dealing with high-profile transactions.
727  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Expect new IRS crypto surveillance to come with a surge in confiscation on: November 16, 2023, 02:54:25 AM
yeah that's what they do they want to restrict americans freedoms to transact globally. keep them under their thumb. tell them what they can't do. ... how its always been with government. plus they want a cut of anything you DO do.
Is there really no way for the community to argue against this kind of law? I suspect almost every crypto user would be uncomfortable with such a law. I'm referring to something like a judicial review or something similar, not just a protest or demonstration on the street. I guess that will be easier if crypto becomes mainstream and most people use it, but if it stays niche then the government can easily crush any opposition. CMIIW.
728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Challenging Privacy in Bitcoin! on: November 16, 2023, 02:29:04 AM
This means that through transactions they can reach a person in the form of tracking? He thought that he was very anonymous and that was what really worried the federal agencies, legal entities, not being able to find who did the ''theft''
By he, do you mean the quoted user above? Then yes. He mentioned using different seed/wallet to make transactions and a mixer to bridge one to the other. Personally, I don't think that will guarantee that any chain analysis company won't be able to break down the link, but it should take some time unless they use a terrible mixer. You should not expect privacy if you use any KYC-ed platform to begin with.
729  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can anyone recommend an event where one can test their trading skills? on: November 15, 2023, 04:15:34 AM
I remember using a platform that allows you to use demo-trading/backtest without registering an account with e-mail etc, or use a fake e-mail that doesn't require any confirmation. Does anyone recall such a platform? I can't remember the name. This could be a good alternative for OP if they don't want to use their e-mail just for testing purposes since it can easily get spammed or sold to some data market by the platform he uses.
730  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My shoppy.gg payments are stuck on: November 15, 2023, 03:53:15 AM
I have the same problem with shoppy.gg, BTC transaction is stuck for days and they don't respond anything
I don't think you can do much other than continuously sending e-mails or tickets so that they will bump the fees. Your stuck transaction is likely because the network is congested and Shoppy uses a very low fee. If they still don't respond you can consider making a new thread instead of bumping this one. Judging from OP's story, there is little chance they will respond and you'll likely end up waiting for the network to be free instead.
731  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning]: Scam/Phishing Curve Website on: November 15, 2023, 03:20:52 AM
thesame way the scammers make use of this same avenue to launch their various attacks, we need to take heed while seeking after airdrops.
Unfortunately, some people never learn, sometimes the expert also fails to notice such an obvious scam. While it is the best protection, domain registrars should also improve their filtering method if that is possible. At least Namecheap improves their response time so they can take down domains like this asap, although scammers can easily move to other friendly hosting for their purpose. Personally, I use DNS encryption with a phishing block list to help avoid websites like this.
732  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BetInAsia stealing user funds, do not use this agent! on: November 15, 2023, 02:53:09 AM
You can find their registration details here[1]. It seems like they registered another company as a proxy to manage their activities. Judging from their address, this is definitely another shell company that hides their location and activity like other shady businesses on the market. Their proxy seems to be Maidstar Holding Limited[2]. CMIIW.

733  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's your take on CEX platforms integrating DEX capabilities like swapping? on: November 15, 2023, 02:41:40 AM
I don't think the market for DEX will vanish even if CEX implements most of its features. Unless CEX somehow allows non-KYC/registered users to trade or replicate the DEX login-less feature (only using a web3 app like Metamask), DEX will still exist. If that does happen though, it will be interesting to see how long it will last, unless they are registered in some obscure location that has no laws (which is likely a scam anyway).

Personally, giving up personal information is one of the key reasons why I find using a new CEX a terrible alternative if one of my main liquidation methods/trading platforms breaks. I'd still use DEX or P2P even if most of the features I need are provided by the new exchange.
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Challenging Privacy in Bitcoin! on: November 14, 2023, 03:42:45 AM
Or should we be focusing on developing new solutions and improvements to further safeguard our privacy in the Bitcoin ecosystem?
Here's the thing, Bitcoin is not a centralized orgs, if some people think coinjoin or mixer is not enough they'd definitely build their own solution for privacy issues. I'm pretty sure some are already doing that, so you don't have to worry about the lack of innovation related to privacy tools. At the same time, there's no way to force all communities to focus on this topic since not everyone feels the urgency to improve the layer of privacy. I'd argue the average joe probably doesn't care about it, and some developers probably think other issues are more important (scalability issues etc).
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are some good blogging related services that I can buy with Bitcoin? on: November 14, 2023, 03:15:23 AM
Like you need 5-10 tools to monitor SEO for site.
I second the opinion that you don't need that many tools to monitor SEO. I used to dabble in blogging in the past, and I recall that one tool can do many things related to SEO from keyword search to article structuring, etc. If you need 10 tools to manage your SEO, are you sure you're not using a terrible one? Even if you need to pay for their pro tier or whatever they called it, most of the time they offer more than just one thing to fulfill your needs.

737  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Expect new IRS crypto surveillance to come with a surge in confiscation on: November 14, 2023, 02:57:41 AM
I wasn't old enough to be in the 1930s but at that time the government was about to confiscate gold from the people eventually they bought those gold from the people. I guess the history is repeating itself, only this time its digital.
I guess so, but the context is really different iirc. There's no urgency in confiscating people's crypto compared to the gold crisis. While USA's debt keeps increasing, I don't think they are desperate to find ways to pay it. CMIIW.

but if you don't disclose on your tax returns that you sold some bitcoin, they would consider that tax evasion. and there's probably a penalty for that. if they found out...
Sometimes I feel lucky I don't live in the US. My country's regulation for crypto tax is quite lax. While it is possible to change them, I doubt they'd be as aggressive as the US considering how niche the market is. Even if it becomes more mainstream, other sources of taxes are more abundant and easily accessible for the government as of now.
738  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How can I get my Wise account back after they've closed it? on: November 14, 2023, 02:33:48 AM
Are you sure it is because you make transactions on Binance? According to their faqs, they do allow transactions from a platform that deals with crypto as long as it is registered in the UK [1]. If you successfully appeal your ban, maybe stick with a locally registered platform for crypto transaction in the future.

739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time for bitcoin to pivot from mailing lists? on: November 14, 2023, 02:23:56 AM
Doesn't developmental discussion already happen on this forum tho? Or are you suggesting that developers should make a forum account and post regularly here?

I'm not familiar with how they are discussing with each other, but is the mailing list their only communication channel? I recall seeing GitHub discussion and other channels being used, albeit not as much as the mailing list I suppose.

Btw, if the goal is to provide an alternative, why don't you continue suggesting it on that thread? I don't see the need to make a new one just to suggest migrating to Bitcointalk since that topic is titled "Mailing list migration" to begin with.
