742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA-256][21coin] ULTRA RARE 21 COIN - NOW IN CRYPTORUSH.IN - 3 EXCHANGES! on: April 04, 2014, 11:20:18 PM
It might be a good idea to change the title of this thread to replace "NOW IN CRYPTORUSH.IN" with one of the other 2 exchanges considering cryptorush is now insolvent and a potential buyer has just pulled out (according to his blog)

http://blog.moolah.ch/2014/04/01/statement-regarding-cryptorush/

The thread title is the first thing people see and it gives a bad impression if it is out of date.

Bad News Bears - no more 21 coin exchanges from the ones I clicked - cryptorush.in is being adjusted/fixed and the other two have zero options.
743  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: $200 in BTC prize. What is bitcoin? How does it work? Writing contest on: April 03, 2014, 11:26:50 PM
I'm here to claim the $200 BTC prize for your writing contest. However, in order to maintain a high degree of transparency, while at the same time noting your concerns with duplicate content...

First, I took the liberties of running it through Copyscape. It passed flawlessly. I went then went ahead and took a screenshot of the entire article at 1:1 resolution; conveniently avoiding the duplicate content issue altogether.  Here's the link to the article image:

http://UberNifty.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/BTC_Demystified.png

Insofar as the publisher agreement you need signed... what kind of process / contract are you talking about? If if it's quick, easy and simple: Count me in! If it's too complicated, I'm perfectly happy with retaining my own copyright.

Can I have your permission to repost this onto my blog?
744  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining with thin clients profitable? on: April 03, 2014, 11:25:21 PM
On year mining with 1000 thin clients would probably earn you one satoshi in total.

  • spend X hours on your employers supercluster to build this
  • HuhHuh
  • Profit!

taking my reiterations via reincarnation, I would say that I'm a little over 1337 years old give or take a few decades due to changes in the adoption of calendars
746  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining with thin clients profitable? on: April 03, 2014, 10:56:07 PM
Hello, i'm really new to this mining thingy but I was just woundering; Can it be profitable to mine with only thin clients? Like if you make a big "cluster" of them?

If it works, will it be super slow?

Thanks in forehand Smiley

That is the same as mining with the server itself - highly miniscule time wasted activity, period.
747  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: HOW TO MINE FOR FREE OR ATLEAST ON THE CHEAP (LEGALLY) on: April 03, 2014, 10:53:30 PM
Oh and HHO generator is snake oil. If you get an HHO generator you might as well order that 125Th system for $10k..  Cheesy

There is no magic for free/cheap power. Wind/solar are typically more expensive than city power.

HHO generators are not snake oil. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxyhydrogen

However, turning it into electricity burning it wouldn't make a lot of sense as you need electricity in the first place to generate HHO.

Options like solar however are totally viable. Yes, you pay a lot up front for the cells and infrastructure, but eventually they will pay themselves back as the Sun won't burn out for another few billion years or so, and if you generate more than you need your local power company will pay you for it if you are grid tied. My local power company even offers grants and other help for solar projects, and encourages green power development. How this is "more expensive" than city power escapes me.

As an alternative energy researcher myself I have been thinking of how a mining company could implement those technologies to power itself, though many are very underdeveloped and/or are just BS.

I disagree on solar - doing some calculations before on http://www.solarminer.com/ their platform shows that you must:

a) buy replacement cells at least once per year
b) need to scale up your nighttime power cells such that they can power a device for a minimum of 12 hours but a desireability for a higher amount of time for rainy and cloudy days

The other underlying issue is that solar STILL isn't very mature in terms of efficiency and require constant maintenance - dust on top of the glass reduces efficiency for example.

According to this article published yesterday, 20.9 percent is the efficiency record http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2014/04/solar-frontier-sets-another-pv-efficiency-record

That's bloody terrible.

OTOH hydroelectric power seems constant provided you have an ample river or stream close by.

Human powered mining equipment that is hosted in a paid membership gym....hmmmm

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like you're just applying the concept of pump N dump over into a game currency.  Would these games be like free to play stuff where the gamer is expected to buy in game currency to advance at an enjoyable pace?  Is the flipside that a person could download a game and spend a ton of time on it only to be able to cash out the coins to be able to spend in the real world?  A game site, gambit.com does something sort of like this where you wager bitcredits with other individuals who also deposite bitcoins for bitcredits.

752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portland Bitcoiners: Try Paying Food Carts with Bitcoins! on: April 01, 2014, 07:57:40 PM
http://corner.squareup.com/2014/03/square-market-accepts-bitcoin.html

I'm sure Portlanders have noticed many of the food carts around town using Square for credit/debit transactions. The article says square pays them with USD after receiving the Bitcoin transaction; I can't really see any reason why the food carts would refuse Bitcoin payment. I'm going to try to hit a food cart village today and see what happens.

I'm interested - Give us your results.  If you get the chance, check out whiffies (they already took btc show them some love)
753  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: March 27, 2014, 04:24:55 AM
Spoetnik such jealous, much envy. Its been proven by several scientist and a court of law that people who don't like Doge have small genitals.

phrase This much Wow such Amaze!!!!

Dogecoin Cons:

  • Kitchsy (like how bitcoin is the honey badger of money and the bilboard in SJ)
  • Higher concentration of kids and late crypto-miners
  • Likely not to be accepted by Wall Street/Big VC investment/Financial Sector as much as BTC would be
  • There is no technical reason that it is more unique or superior as an alt-coin
  • Its origin story was meant to be a joke-currency, like sexcoin or potcoin

now for the DOGECOIN PROS:

  • Brings in a larger segment of youth to learn about cryptocurrency which could in turn establish permanence in culture and society for the future (btc is expected to last until at least the year 2140 when all coins are mined)
  • People use it as a platform to donate some serious cash - more so than BTC folks have.  I don't see a BITCOIN sponsored Nascar, DO YOU?
  • Dogecoin supporters show a much higher level of dedication towards cryptocurrency than some of the so-called bitcoin supporters, we should take heed from their examples to show you folks how spreading adoption is done
  • There is still a period now where a common believer could drop 5-10 dollars into dogecoin and stand to see a grand payout if the currency is accepted into adoption before BTC - those who follow through with this investment may be interested in in doing the same for BTC as well once the determine that any amount of BTC can be purchased and not necessarily an entire bitcoin worth[this could potentially just be bad speculation and confirmation bias on my part].  Because of the active developers and userbase, I only see this exapnding, not contracting like other altcoins that may be innovative, but lack the drive to spread their own adoption
  • Streisand effect - scoffers of dogecoin will be like - why the heck does this even exist, which brings them about to bitcoin.  Google Btc one time and then they can choose for themselves whether they are for or against digital currency

755  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Best PSU for Antminer S1 on: March 26, 2014, 12:39:11 AM
Remember that you can't just go by the watt rating alone.

This PSU is technically 850W, and it has enough PCIe plugs to handle 2 Ants, but there are some major issues! First, load balancing the rails would be a giant PITA. Second, I wouldn't guarantee the quality. And third, and most importantly, it can only handle 720W (60A) for all of the 12v rails combined. This is barely enough to handle the 2 Ants at stock, and you wouldn't be able to OC at all. Consider this a PSU to stay way from.

On the flip side, you have this PSU. Same max wattage, same number of PCIe plugs, but it's a strong (70A) single rail (no load balance, and no OC limits), and it's by a more reputable company. You could easily handle 2 Ants on this PSU with no worries.

If you really want something that's simple amazing, try this PSU. It's very similar to the one above, but is 92% efficient (80Plus Gold), and is completely modular. You would be hard pressed to find a better PSU for 2 Ants.

In short, don't skimp on the PSU. It has the ability to make your mining ventures a constant pain in your neck, or it has the ability to make your rigs completely rock solid.

If you shop around you will want a single rail IMHO.  After messing with a TON of options, I nailed it down to CX750s. One can power two overclocked antminer S1s
756  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: best low cost equivalent of openrigs.com like rig vendor in US on: March 23, 2014, 06:34:51 AM
They're legit.  I bought a rig from openrigs.com on the 13th of January and I'm still waiting for it.  I got this Rig from hashratesolutions 3 weeks ago and ordered it 6 weeks ago.

I didn't really want to chance it with something makeshifted as I do plan to relocate again soon and I don't have the hardware/power tools to cut my own support beams.

758  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what is a good "base" altcoin for a new coin? on: March 20, 2014, 03:59:16 AM
I have been mulling over a concept for an innovative altcoin for awhile now. It would hopefully help solve some of the prevalent problems we have on this forum, but also be fair, serve a purpose and basically try its best to not be *scammed*. The base for the coin is not that important, how it is used "is" important. I'm curious if anyone has a favorite "base"?  I actually like the cpu coins because they give everyone a fair share, but can see the desire to go with a gpu based coin as well. Some thoughts are:

- litecoin clone = gpu + new scrypt asics
- litecoin n-factor = gpu
- cpu coin options = quark, or one of the new variations

Assuming I go with a cpu coin would Quark be the best or is there a new, better base that can be used?  Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark

Nothing is innovative anymore.  WE NEED ADOPTION of cryptos period.  IE, stop trying to make moar coins - just let me buy my mcdonalds and pay my car insurance and internet bill directly with BTC.

If you really want something innovative - make an entity that ties in directly with a coin such as bitcoin or litecoin or megacoin - something to where you can hold X coins and they will then be converted to be used as a surety bond to guarantee health insurance or car insurance or FHA insurance.  Stop looking for ways to cash in on creating copypasta coins - make changes to allow new coins to supplement existing infrastructure.

Crypto doesn't become the world reserve currency unless the USD goes to the toilet - but the who fate of the current financial sector and its trillions in assets and debt are tied into the preservation of the current USD which is why I say to forget trying to make something new/groundbreaking on the crypto development front.
759  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin section is out of control, expect even more bullshits on: March 20, 2014, 03:47:51 AM
Did someone call the wambulance?  WAAA! WAAA! WAAA!

Disclaimer - Altcoins offer opportunity.

Some opportunities are good, MOST are usually self served interests - ie 21 coin, dogecoin (which gained a ton of support so now its "not all jokes anymore Tongue") and of course the pun on the pun - kitteh coin.

Your call to angry mobs means nothing. Don't like it here, then refrain from going into the places you dislike.

Theymos - probably doesn't really care too much about the forums anymore.  He could skim 10 percent off the donations to the forum and just leave us to our devices without a care less.  You are someone who is whining to them to do something with zero offers of money.  Sorry if that is off putting, but it is the reality.

Want to find your next opportunity?  Then start backing (mining, or buying from cryptsy) THOSE coins you believe in.  I myself believe in Megacoin, Dogecoin (huge following after all - they try hard to reinforce the concept of giving and crypto awareness) and etherum (means to take the concept of DACs to a real world easy use level)   The more you complain about shit this and shit that...the more they will be made.  Survival of the fittest - and in this case that means having merchant processors, merchants with a wide assortment of goods, and consistent real world marketing (not just stuck in forum-land or on the internet)  Pump N Dump developers will cease to create more clones when it is determined that these newer, tougher barriers to entry are expected.
760  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bliss? on: March 18, 2014, 03:16:21 PM
I got one too.  Screw this company - no clear signs of delivery date.  IDK if its USA based or not, I'm tired of preorders.

Last one is with alpha-T which they have been fairly transparent.  But yes, NO MOAR Preorders!.
