761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZET] Zetacoin - SHA256 coin - Quick confirmations on: December 20, 2013, 04:56:48 PM
It's not shown on Coinmarketcap Sad
because my block explorer is currently down, in around 1h it should be up again. i had to replace some hardware Wink
762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 19, 2013, 07:11:37 PM
Two questions:

 - can it be implemented 'auction system', when data storage fee is dynamic and depends only on demand - the same as with Bitcoin transaction fees, more DTC per 1KB -> higher probability to be processed soon (and to be processed at all - with 0 fee it can be impossible to confirm transaction)

 - what is current development process and nearest plans?
oocook5u has answered my PMs, il help him to setup a dnsseeder so the peer problems will be gone in a further release (or if you compile from git, as soon hes commiting it).
763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BBQCoin, the coin you want to eat. on: December 18, 2013, 10:28:23 PM
Why hasn't this been updated past 0.6.x? I'll do it myself if whoever is acting like a dev doesn't.

I'm going to set up another P2Pool node as well.

This thread seems to be more relevant than ever: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=307923.0

figroll, has an updated Windows build with checkpoints and a few other fixes. It is currently being thoroughly tested. It should drop soon Smiley

Another P2Pool  would be great!

-bigdaub
A version 0.8.6.1 Windows build? Where is the source?
no its still the old crappy BDB variant, just with some fixes from me. also currently we dont have a dev which has some spare time to develop it.
764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 18, 2013, 07:59:04 AM
I compiled it to try it out but I cannot run datacoind-qt... I don't understand. Access denied.

Are you running windows or linux (if linux, what distro)?  What version?

Is "Access Denied" all that it's saying?

Copy & paste your input/output if you're able...screenshot would work too.

This machine is running Ubuntu 13.04. I can't get anything useful anymore, I already compiled so I'd have to recompile. It just basically says "Permission denied" when I type "./datacoin-qt.pro"

In which directory did you try to compile the 1st time? Did you change it? (Sounds like you've got it, but now I'm curious, lol)
and did you chmod'ed it to be executed?
seriously? you dont execute a .pro (qt project file)... you use it to create a Makefile and with this, you compile it later.
765  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Open Transactions for Grandma on: December 18, 2013, 07:56:33 AM
Moneychanger is the Open Transactions client for Grandma:
https://github.com/Open-Transactions/Moneychanger

I'd like people to try it out. The first person who does and makes an informative post (at least 50 words) gets four shares, the second 3, the third 2, and the last 4.

I think this will get the Open Transactions Client for Grandmas bounty:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now#open_transactions_client_for_grandmas

but because it's a big bounty I want to be sure and I want people to know more about it.

OT is far from being usable by "Grandma" and similiar
766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZET] Zetacoin - SHA256 coin - Quick confirmations on: December 17, 2013, 12:29:12 PM
Found this one: http://darkgamex.ch:2751/chain/ZetaCoin

The one mentioned on the zeta org site doesn't work

Very useful, thank you.
its mine and of course you can use it. be aware that i have a sheduled maintaince (replacing HW) which will take 1 day, starting at 18.12.2013
767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 17, 2013, 10:08:24 AM
I just want to clarify one thing.
I don't want to announce it officially before time comes, but!
We're preparing for taking over the development if oocook5u doesn't appear in several days. Now we have several tasks to be implemented - based both on initial DTC plans and on community suggestions. And we won't come here and say: 'okay, we're taking over Datacoin, you should praise us', but we will come with several major updates of Datacoin backend and GUI code. No 'drowning fish' or something like that - we're only at the beginning of the way which can last for years (no, I'm not joking).
i offered my help to the OP for adding + maintaining a dnsseed, unfortunately he didnt answer yet
768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 16, 2013, 11:21:05 AM
Well I've over 300QRK's on cryptsy, but now I cant sell them, because they deactivated it, what now
get your coins out of craptsy ASAP
769  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 16, 2013, 10:25:45 AM
Hey,

this has been asked before, but I had troubles finding a recent answer: can I use Armory and the standard bitcoind wallet in parallel? I still  use bitcoind via rpc for some scripts, and even though I would use Armory for my personal wallet, I would need to keep the script functionality. I imagine that the two wallets do not clash at all, ie, are completely separate?
yes you can, bitcoin{d,-qt} is only needed to communicate with the network and get/validate the blockchain.
770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: December 16, 2013, 12:13:39 AM
People having trouble with updating the wallet download this .rar and replace your files with the ones in the rar.

LIKELY TROJAN WALLET STEALER DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!

it is, he also posted it in other threads
771  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 15, 2013, 09:11:04 PM
volume at vircurex rising like crazy.

https://vircurex.com/orders?alt=qrk&base=btc

I say it will surpass cryptsy levels within a few days...
finally we can say craptsy goodbye
772  Economy / Securities / Re: Vircurex may 2013 report, is this a joke Kumala ? on: December 15, 2013, 08:57:03 PM
just wanted to point out that until today, there was still no dividends paid out and there is no information on how long it will go on like this...
773  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [70 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: December 13, 2013, 11:24:43 AM
This has probably been asked before somewhere, but please excuse that I'm not going to read through all pages here.  It seems to me that you need a large hash rate in order to use P2Pool reasonably, right?  The current rate of P2Pool is reported as 121 TH/s.  It is scheduled to produce 8,640 shares per day (?), which means that on average, to get a share per day, you need 14 GH/s.  And one share per day on average is not that great, IMHO, in order to get reasonably steady payouts.

Am I correct to assume that it makes no sense to use P2Pool without 10-100 GH/s?  I would love to use it instead of a centralised pool, but it really seems not a good idea for me (I have around 1.5 GH/s, not to make a profit, more for the fun - but I still get a couple mBTC per week, which is not bad).  Wouldn't it be possible in theory (if the system is changed a bit, I understand that) to create a P2Pool for P2Pool and so on, building a hierarchy of networks, which allow even smaller rates?  It probably would not be worth the effort just to make it usable to small miners, I guess.
p2pool isnt good at payout out steady in this case, but you get more coins than anywhere long-term.
774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 12, 2013, 11:07:34 PM
its imbedded in the coinbase of btc blocks, so far i havent seen it uploaded to pastebin/similiar or btctalk. everyone who talked about it and worked with it, extracted it the same way and ppl who are unable to do this shouldnt have access to it anyway. this seems harsh but its better that way.
Extracting the messages are easy. Was more curious if there was a limitation on the str size that you could embed in the message. These messages can be inserted via multiple methods and not only coinbase.  It appears that there is no limit in data size with some of the methods.

It also appears that future versions of bitcoin will contain some limited messaging capabilities as part of a transaction.

Regardless, the methods used are more like hacks rather than the intended design of the coin. Therefore, I still see value in what datacoin represents.
the script we were talking about embeds data by abusing multisig. there is only one limitation (virtually), your amount of btc you wanna spend Wink
775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 12, 2013, 10:18:50 PM
yes, but someone created the python3 script for uploading+downloading data so its easy to upload/download to the btc chain. (wrt multisig)
Do you have a link to these scripts?

What happens when something really dangerous is stored in the blockchain and lets say the Goverments want it out?

Is it possible to just ban Datacoin? Will people need to use tor? How easy is to stop Datacoin?
Answers are the same as for Bitcoin. If governments want, they can ban everything. But it is possible to organize getting\storing info from\to Datacoin if there is at least one country where it is not banned. Simple service working via I2P\Tor that has simple API for getting\storing data, that's it.

What is the community though about stuff like plastic gun blueprints, copyrighted stuff like movies and CP?

What i want to understand is what stops someone from trolling the whole coin by posting CP everywhere?

I answered this question many times. But now I have another argument. Do you use Bitcoin? Look here: http://www.btcpedia.com/ped0-links-in-bitcoin-blockchain/
so 2.5 Mb of Wikileaks can be only one piece. Are you sure that there are no 2.5Mb pictures or even short video with CP in Bitcoin?
It didn't stop anyone from using Bitcoin, and for Datacoin it should be the same.

i am asking because i am interested. i didnt know that about bitcoin. Interesting. But a new question came to my mind with your answer. If bitcoin can also do this why do we need datacoin? In what aspect it is better for storing data?

bitcoin is not designed for data storage, it needs a lot of non-trivial operations to store data in BTC blockchain. It's like - you can write web server using Assembler, but nobody does it, or creates very simple app just as proof-of-concept

777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 11, 2013, 04:03:36 PM
People are selling QRK.... and most of the traders aren't even awake yet. I'm thinking of selling.
Relax. As Meebo pointed out earlier, virtually all cryptocurrencies are going down at the moment as a result of BTC going down.

What is the hidden secret of such type of reasoning? Smiley

Is it possible to make some kind of money by applying this?
yes, namely day-trading!
So, following BTC and buying high and selling low - daytrading - can really make money? Smiley

Are you successful in this?
seems i am and obviously not only me.
start small, learn how to do it, get bigger Wink
but remember, never invest more than you can afford to lose!

We really need a public pool for this coin. Someone has been quietly mining with a small pool for a while now. An example is:

http://www.chainbrowser.com/datacoin/block/9aad979fdd8b9e66723b689a63c31e065a22d4eb84671b7bb1a7e04d5bac9690/

I think that it is not pool, but couple of VPS instances pointed to one.
Main difficulty with pool is implementing some protocol for avoiding cheating, so it's not such easy as with scrypt coins. But you can start your own 'pool' with your friends where no one will cheat Smiley

BTW - thanks for block explorer one more time!
no, this dosnt work. if you point multiple miners to a getwork rpc, all blocks found will end up just as if its solo mining.
Yes, my fault, of course. I was just thinking about some kind of private p2pool, so was in mess with that.
p2pool hasnt been modified (yet) for XPM/DTC Sad
