What I am trying to say is, invest in something real and stop all the BS! I can't believe how much money and resources have been wasted on so many scams! It really boggles the mind!

not every other alt bloodbath. But ok. Congrats this went off a bit. Don't forget to take profits or someone else will Wink

It's not 400% btw.
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gridcoin up 400%, every other alt -> Bloodbath! on: November 01, 2014, 03:05:13 AM
Maybe if people stopped investing in Pump and Dump scamcoins and invested in science we might have a little more volume!

I mean, that's great and all, but you guys have less than $250 in volume in the last 24 hours:

Not really that hard to double or quadruple the price when it takes one or three btc...

As of October 31st!

That is exactly how they will destroy it, with all kinds of bs regulation! The people who are rooting for this are the ones who want to get rich in dollar terms! Exactly what Bitcoin was designed to avoid in the first place! FIAT!

I am serious.  What we need is the big boys to come and play.  Let's take the Forbe's top 400.  If we can get them to diversify their portfolio's to a measly 3% bitcoin, at current prices that would be infusing over 100 billion USD into the bitcoin system, a system right now that is only worth 4.5 billion.

The point is, right now Bitcoin has maybe a handful of big players pushing it (two of them are twins).  We need a lot more than that.  As much as these people are hated, they are the ones that will ultimately decide if the policies set by the governments of the world are pro-Bitcoin or not.  If the governments join us, it will make life a lot easier to transition.  Legal tax paying businesses (which the majority of the economy) and big investors will be much more likely to join in.

Don't worry, from what I've seen, the big players are thinking exactly what you are thinking.  I just don't know if they can pull it off. I suspect not.  What attracts the masses, and the users, of Bitcoin is the anonymity factor, which is going away fast. If Bitcoin loses anonymity, it becomes just another PayPal IMO.  Maybe a cheaper PayPal, but essentially another PayPal.

Ok, I give up, you guys win.

This is some of the best news in a while for Bitcoin.  This guy probably has some serious connections in the SEC.  We need them on our side.  If you don't think so, you are stupid.  If you think that Bitcoin will just up and depose fiat without the government sanctioning Bitcoin, you are crazy.  If the government declares war on Bitcoin, they can seriously make it difficult for Bitcoin to grow.  Can it stop it completely?  No.  But if all the governments in the world ban it, then it is going to fail.

On the other hand, if big hands within government good ole boy system use their power to help Bitcoin gain approval from governments, then Bitcoin will be free to grow legally and without worry.

Look...... the SEC isn't going to be able to change the code or the clients.  They can make no fundamental changes to the Bitcoin code.  What they can do is make it a pain in the ass to use for Americans, and even to a large extent non-Americans.

The more people like him are on board with Bitcoin moving forward, the better.

Look...... we didn't join the old system.  The old system joined us.  This is what HAS TO HAPPEN for Bitcoin to get big.  We don't want to fight fiat, we want to be better than it so that everybody, the people and the governments just switch over because it is the natural thing to do.

Hey Jams, why don't you diversify and look @ some other cryptos.  I have been around Darkcoin almost from the beginning and I still think it has a great future, but so do other coins too. Gridcoin has been around for 1 year now and it has maintained it's value, while everything else has been decimated! Why don't you have a look @ that, you will fee much better mining Gridcoin knowing that your computations are going to Boinc science projects! There is also Solarcoin and bunch of others that are trying to do innovative stuff. Darkcoin is great, but it is not the only game in town, there is lots of coins with major potential!

$1.80... are you fucking serious? fuck crypto im sick of this shit what the fuck fucking fuck fuck fuck.

Hang in there kiddo!  I can't believe it either, but when I step outside this box they call a thread, I see so much fud being said about our coin, I'm amazed!  People actually don't know our coin functions, and functions well for privacy.  They're also being spoon fed outright lies about DRK.  But I think the real issue is that all the scams and thievery has taken it's toll on cryptos in general, including Bitcoin.  These are growing pains.  We need to grow some immunity here.  We need a trustless exchange system where coins never leave the control of the wallet owner until a trade actually happens.  This needs to happen soon or we will suffer worse as more exchanges are "hacked" (read flee with user's coins and money).

But we're coming up with some good ideas over at darkcointalk, and hopefully a developer will take this on soon.

Look I appreciate your enthusiasm but honestly this is really starting to piss me off. Crypto is just sliding into the abyss. People still don't see the need for it, I'm talking your average person on the street. I'm starting to lose hope. It's been a year of decline so far, I've lost thousands of dollars. I feel like a sack of shit. I could have sold DRK at $10 but I held like a fucking moron now I basically have nothing left. The question I'm asking myself is: "How could you be so fucking stupid?"

Literally when I wake up, I ask myself this, and before I go to bed, the same. I will never forgive myself for being suckered into this and will probably die of an ulcer or some other stress-related disease because of it. I am literally going insane because I missed so many opportunities. You only get so many chances in life I think I missed most of mine. Maybe it's time to move off to some foreign country and just fade into oblivion. Life, you beat me. I give up. My ambition has been stripped and I have nothing left. I'm not one to quit but I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I'll never get  ahead and will probably die poor and destitute with nearly nothing to my name.

Thanks crypto.

I am glad you guys like my stuff! Smiley I did this pretty quickly, maybe I can devote some more time and do a better one!

We need mass appeal, not cheap jokes.

You will never manage to create a video that everybody likes. (ofcourse I am glad that you try nonetheless to achieve it)
Therefor we need many different iterations of many different ways if we really want to "mass appeal".

I still think that stuff like this is hilarious, and extremely important:

Can you imagine what a real artist could do with such a meme?

Build an economy around bitcoin only, transact in bitcoin only!! That is what bitcoin was made for!!

I think it the other way around, noob! Wink

How exactly does one "remove" bitcoin's "association" with the US Dollar??
792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am never using Bitpay!Former SEC chair takes advisory roles bitpay and vaurum! on: October 29, 2014, 05:19:41 PM
LOL The "public trust". You have got to be shitting me! After everything that has happened since 2007, you think the SEC or any government institution has the "trust" of the American people??

Did any of you read the article? Did you see the guy's pic?? Would you trust anyone that looks like that guy, LOL?

This is significant.  As I have said, it's inevitable that BTC loses some anonymity in exchange for greater market share.

Levitt of course is right about what he says below.

TonyT

The Wall Street Journal reported today that consultant Arthur Levitt – who served as SEC chairman from 1993 to 2001 and was actually the longest-serving person in that role – has joined the boards in order to guide the bitcoin firms' approach to financial regulation.

Levitt affirmed he was impressed by the "innovative energy" of the digital currency industry's youthful representatives, but that they remained unaware of the inevitable regulatory issues their companies would face in winning the public's trust.

Imagine how many problems would be eliminated if Bitcoin was not associated with USD at all.

I don't think you understand how economics work.

Yes there is something that can be done about it. It just takes some balls!

If you don't want Wall St. in your cool aid then you should not be using money. Wherever there is money the banks will come. There is nothing that can be done about it.
The good news is that bitcoin is not something the banks can do much about, except participate.
795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am never using Bitpay!Former SEC chair takes advisory roles bitpay and vaurum! on: October 29, 2014, 03:38:42 PM
Against goods and services! Take the most popular/necessary for human life and use those! Maybe even digital goods! Valuing bitcoin against fiat is the worst thing that could have happened to Bitcoin!

The pegging of Bitcoin to USD will be the demise of Bitcoin! If you really think about it, all the exchange scams, all the BS stems directly from that. Imagine how many problems would be eliminated if Bitcoin was not associated with USD at all.

What I don't understand is, people created Bitcoin to avoid middle men such as banks and then companies like Bitpay are created... people should avoid middle men at all costs.

What would you peg the price of BTC to then?

If you don't want to see Bitcoin get taken over by the Scum from Wallstreet, I suggest everyone in the Bitcoin community boycott any company that hires these types of people!
798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How IRS can seize accounts on suspicion alone! on: October 29, 2014, 12:31:52 PM
If you think elections/politicians will change anything I honestly don't know what to tell ya!

Why should IRS are the only organization to have this kind of authority. Why cant we, the bitcoin community make our own lawsuit to fight against government.
Other law enforcement agencies have similar authority. Also the IRS does not simply take the money, they get a court order to have the court garnish money on the IRS's behalf. This is allowed as per statues.

A lawsuit is not a good approach to this problem. A more efficient way in getting this ability changed would be to vote for political leaders who would be willing to get these statues (laws) changed.

Not when the ones who refuse to allow economic liberty count the votes.
Votes are counted in an impartial way that allows for whoever has the most votes to win an election.

To say/imply that someone would not win an election despite receiving the most votes only because of their views is just crazy

In a utopia, yes. In the dystopia we live in, no.
I would say that many people would need to be elected to get these kinds of laws changed but it is still possible.

Ever since the washington post published their article about how prevalent this is on a local level the general public has make it known that this is not a popular thing for the government to take money from (possible criminals) so it is very well possible that this kind of practice could get discontinued with the current politicians in office

The current politicians in office benefit from civil forfeiture and other forms of "legalized" theft and will never suffer one iota. Why would they act against their own interests? The general public has zero effect with the soapbox & Stalinist counted ballot box, the jury box is compromised and/or circumvented, and the ammo box is trumped by the drone & nuclear weapon box, if there isn't mutiny in support of our side, liberty.
Local politicians do benefit from asset seizure however they are also the easiest to remove from office and are the ones who must listen to the voices of local voters the most as they have very limited re-election budgets. The local equivalent of the MSM has incentives to report what is important to voters/the public and has much more influence as to what voters can hear then what the budget of most local politicians can bear.

If local politicians cannot get the laws changed, they can likely at the very least get the practice to stop

If you POR wallet is empty you won't get anything. My suggestion would be to buy some coins @ c-cex or poloniex, then you can burn them to your POR wallet and you will then start getting interest and POR blocks.

Burn Page: http://pool.gridcoin.us/CoinExchange.aspx

Hi all,

I have been using BOINC 2 weeks now and gridcoin POR about 1 week but i haven't got any coins yet.  All of my BOINC projects have over 100 RAC and they show up in gridcoin wallet.

My questions:

Do i need to actually have some coins in the wallet to get more? ( If so where i can get them since i cant get mining to work in classic version)
Does boinc magnitude need to be 100 or over?
