801  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixin Network hacked - $200 Million lost on: September 27, 2023, 12:57:06 AM
He went on to say that as for the other 50% of their funds, mixin network is going to issue "bonds tokens" for the customers to claim, and the platform would repurchase it from them in the future.
I wonder how long the platform will stay afloat until every token is purchased back. How would they ensure that nobody is abusing it by buying them cheaply from the P2P market or just hacking the smart contract? Seeing how they lost their money it doesn't give any confidence at all. It is really surprising how a platform that holds a hundred million dollars of money doesn't have a good security mechanism to protect its funds.
802  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bybit expects to exit UK market on: September 27, 2023, 12:24:15 AM
In a somewhat related news, big UK bank Chase decided to block all crypto related payments, confirming what we already know that atmosphere there is far from ideal for crypto enthusiasts.
I believe the key reason is that they don't want to get into a debate with their customers to compensate for their lost funds. At least they are quite explicit about it. I can see their point, but it is kind of weird that they don't apply the same thing to fiat scams. Are scams that different there?

They do cite some reports that crypto scams increase quickly in the UK. If this is one of the reasons why the law becomes stricter and pushes exchanges away, one has to wonder whether this will encourage scammers to be more active through the "black market' or not. At the very least P2P should still be a good option regardless of how the law change. CMIIW.
803  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Notable apps that can accept BTC for premium subscription packages. on: September 27, 2023, 12:06:16 AM
You can sell your bitcoin and use fiat currency to pay those services. I don't think it is too much different from on chain transaction fee, trading fee. It will require some additional fee but not too much.
I believe convenience and to some extent, privacy, are the key reasons why you want to use Bitcoin or crypto instead of fiat. A fee is quite relative too, some services have a lot of fees when you use fiat. Personally, I find it cheaper to use crypto directly since the difference in the payment method for services that I use is around 5% or so. At the end of the day, I guess you can say it depends on what service you need too.
804  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Meet AssetX - The future of asset markets 💸 on: September 26, 2023, 01:56:17 AM
Platform is a DAO, It will be owned by the people so we do belong here.
-snip-
If we hide who we are, we can’t be sure who the seller is (or what they are selling). This kind of model will never succeed.
How does the DAO model work though? How would you manage the data from the people that use your platform? Will the 'owner' have access to it, or if not, how far can they affect your project? Do they also have a say on what regulation the platform needs to follow? It sounds a bit contradictory when you want to follow regulations but claim your platform is decentralized by nature.
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: interesting article: Pay-to-use blockchains will never achieve mass adoption on: September 26, 2023, 01:35:02 AM
The author seems to see blockchain as a service similar to social media. That is inherently flawed. It would be a disaster if anyone could make transactions, while social media by nature needs people to visit them to function properly. Besides, what kind of monetization is he referring to when he wants to remove the fees to make transactions? Does he suggest blockchain projects sell their user data and collect their transaction history, basically becoming their own chain analysis project? That is insane. Might as well stick with fiat if people are fine with that.
806  Economy / Speculation / Re: After the bull-run plan. on: September 26, 2023, 01:03:42 AM
some want to just hold for long term, perhaps even skipping the selling during bull markets altogether.
I'd advise people not to do this. If my experience from two bull runs tells me anything, it is that holding your coins when the bull run is happening (especially near the end) is not a wise choice. I lose so many potential profits doing that. Sure, there is no way to exit at the perfect time, but making a plan to sell some of your cons when the bull run happens is better imo. Especially if you don't have that much capital to begin with.
807  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: UK House of Lords passes bill to seize stolen crypto on: September 26, 2023, 12:35:34 AM
I believe with this law, such things will happen and the stolen cryptos will be recovered to be refunded to the rightful owners. UK is leading the way! We must appreciate such effort.
In an ideal world that can be the case, but from how describe the law I don't think this is the thing that most people want. On the other hand, a clear law can also help people judge whether a law enforcement process is being abused or not, although I doubt this applies to the new law since there is no tool to monitor the process easily.

At the end of the day, I don't see how it can improve user's ability to recover their stolen funds from criminal activity. I can see why though, probably because the government doesn't want people to scam them too. But yeah, the best thing to do is be careful and prevent yourself from using scammy services or falling for a scam easily.
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does layer 2 help? on: September 26, 2023, 12:01:38 AM
intended on using P2SH  or Bech32 SEGWIT because I am aware legacy addresses incure more fees .is it set to use layer 2 in default
Not sure what you mean by "set to use layer 2 by default" when you mentioned about address type. What do you know about layer 2 btw? Maybe you're mixing things up here. When people mention layer 2, most of them refer to things like Lightning Network, Liquid, etc. It has nothing to do with legacy address or Bech32. CMIIW.
Emangnya QRIS mendukung kripto gan?
810  Local / Topik Lainnya / Re: Apakah Anda merasa bahagia on: September 25, 2023, 01:01:42 AM

CMIIW.
812  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: [Q&A] Tanya Jawab Seputar Forum Disini/Ask about this forum here! on: September 25, 2023, 12:15:00 AM
814  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What exchanges allow you to trade derivatives even though it ban in your country on: September 22, 2023, 03:07:58 AM
Using a DEX include many types of services like trading, staking and risk depends on type of activity. If it is staking, a user has to lock their coins in a staking pool that is owned by a DEX. Risk can appear there and that DEX can seize your staked coins.
I agree. Even if you use a "DEX" to trade and never stake any tokens or coins, you still can't remove the risk that a service will be banned or stop operating because a government fines them or classifies them as an entity that manages financial activity. People should be aware of risks like that instead of gambling the chance that they won't get caught because they use a good VPN. VPN and other tools can help you increase your privacy, but not remove the risk that comes from using a centralized service even if you name them as DEX.
815  Economy / Economics / Re: Sabine Hossenfelder - Web3: World-changing tech or just a scam? on: September 22, 2023, 01:44:41 AM
Web 3 is not all about tokens and cryptos. It's all about immersive internet experience. And at this point, I am sure that you will accept the fact that web 3 is dead. Facebook has lost interest on web3 and stopped their project. Not much movement is heard from any other tech giants on web3. It was just a hype which died faster than ICOs and NFT.
There is a difference between Web3 and Web 3.0 afaik. The one being discussed is mostly related to crypto, which means those who offer interconnected devices and apps. I don't think ICO and stuff like NFT need to succeed before you can call Web3 arrived, since people can definitely use their wallet to connect to apps like DEX and so on. That being said, I don't think what they promise has been achieved due to various reasons, such as a lack of interest or terrible security on smart contracts.
816  Economy / Economics / Re: You can't meet all your needs/desires at once, even if you spend all your salary on: September 22, 2023, 12:51:15 AM
So better is to work for your passion and do something that you really enjoy because there is no end to the process of keeping working just for the sake of money.
I think this is quite difficult for most people. Working for passion can also mean what you enjoy most might be a chore sooner or later. I've seen a few content creators say they don't find their work meaningful anymore, hence why they stop. But some of them can't do that since their income relies on views, which in the end only causes a downgrade in the content they create.

Personally, I'd suggest people not to make their hobby or what they love their main job. Even if they can do that, it is better to find something else to spend your time. When you reach the point where money can't satisfy your need as you mentioned, you'll likely end up feeling more depressed and hating your hobby/work more.
817  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Decline Due to debt ceiling concern on: September 22, 2023, 12:31:40 AM
Why must bitcoin be affected by the US debit ceiling? I know the us has a great power when it comes to finance, world economy and all of that but why most this affect bitcoin, are the US government or its financial institutions legally dealing with bitcoin in any way that this their news will have to set some set back towards its price decline.
As far as I can tell, the argument is that the debt ceiling might affect how investors do their trade on the stock and digital assets market. Basically, the changes in the debt ceiling can signal a change in the confidence of the USD. Considering how most markets use USD to determine the price and so on, I can see how it might affect them.

That being said, there is no way to determine the right reason why the Bitcoin price is going up or down. I'm not sure why OP believes the debt ceiling is the key reason other than basing his analysis on what the so-called experts said in the media.
818  Economy / Economics / Re: The economy is also getting harder for private equity companies on: September 22, 2023, 12:07:22 AM
But do you believe it will never stop with falling liquidity in the system?

Plus lend money to common people? In the context of what's written in that link, I think you and I have a different idea of what private equity companies are?
Not sure if I get his tone right but I feel he is being satirical about it. This is one of the obvious flaws of how a modern economy works that has been posted many times on the internet. I'm pretty sure there is a documentary explaining how debt works and how risky it is in general.

If he is not though, then I don't see why we believe Bitcoin is a better alternative compared to fiat if the debt is deemed necessary to allow the company to grow their wealth (or their reliance on fiat).
819  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitcoinCasinos.com - The Best Comparison of Crypto Casinos on: September 21, 2023, 01:47:09 AM
How were you able to come up with the review ratings? We have an internal process where we agree about the standards than an operator needs to have for receiving a rating and being displayed on the site.
Is this category the same as the one you explained in your FAQ? How would you weigh each category to arrive at the rating number? For example, do you value security more than customer support? If yes, by how much?

It is probably a good idea if you can break down the rating for more details so that user can check out which part of a service is the worst or best one.
820  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What exchanges allow you to trade derivatives even though it ban in your country on: September 21, 2023, 01:19:24 AM
In such cases you can:
1. Interact to smart contract directly if you have particular tech skills.
2. Just turn on the VPN.

No one will freeze your funds on DEX due to regional restrictions so it should be safe no matter how you access the exchange. The only potential issue that in case the exchange gets hacked it may be harder to get legal support, but I'll assume this would not happen.
Are you sure that's a wise choice? If you use a service that explicitly states you can't use it if you live in the US or somewhere else, using a VPN is likely going to get you a ban. I've seen many cases where people lost their accounts without having a chance to withdraw their money when they used a VPN. Sure, you can use a good VPN that masks your IP with a dedicated IP, but the risk is still there.

I'm also not sure about the guarantee that no DEX is going to freeze your account. At the very least I don't trust any service that call themselves DEX just because they use smart contract, especially if you live in the US. The SEC fined some services as mentioned above because they believe those DEX services still need to follow regulations. Whether you agree or not, you still have that risk. Better to be safe than sorry.
