Can CfB/JLP comment on VPS requirements for the new 0.5.3 code?  If a hallmarked VPS with say, 30M on the account was running, how much mem would it need? (not my hallmark, BTW, Im hosting someones hallmark for them)
NCC-1701-D is running on 8 GB VPS, with -Xmx6144M, and java is currently using 3065M. On another server I have java is currently using 2124M.

I am going to run some memory profiling again soon to see what is taking how much space and if there is any room for improvement before switching to storing blocks and transactions in a database, which would be a significant change.

thanks, will convert all my VPSs to 4GB, please keep us informed.

Want to use your bct.org ID as your ID over on https://forums.nxtcrypto.org but someone is squatting you BCT.org ID?  PM me here asking me to blow away the account there with your ID from over here and I will do it and will also blow away all posts made there as that userID

Since it got broken. They turned it into a pos coin. I think its great! No miners selling of for profit and a great way making ppl hold the coin! Just buy in and hold for future heights!  Smiley

what were the specific behind the conversion?  Did they instamine the rest of the coins that would have been produced and give them to someone?  Or did they start from the last valid block of hte old chain and say the total number of coins was what was present at that time?

why is nobody answering this question???

there are currently 66,793,543,769 coins in circulation  when the new chain is made there will be 66,800,000,000 coins so just a couple of mill over what the old chain will have

cool thanks, was just wondering if the plan to convert to POS would include instamining of all coins that would have been generated.  So good news thanks

I tried to register on https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/ to reserve my name but it was already registered. I clicked Forgot password but got no e-mail yet. Is there any forums.nxtcrypto.org admin?

adminius
forkedchain

r the two admins there

I hope they read this thread. I'm not going to use that forum, just to reserve the name.

I hate to hear that.... Please everyone dont think we are trying to control things, we are simply trying to promote NXT in a common fashion.  In fact I prefer the community to participate as a whole.  Each member site (www/info/forums) is admined separately by different people with their own ideas and are free to do things.  however, I would like to think that if they go too far off base we as the NXT community will correct it.  SO WE NEED YOUR INPUT FOR THIS TO WORK!

Please, everyone participate!

can someone give some specifics on the early conversion to 100% POS?  What happened to all the coins scheduled to be mined in the old chain's future?  Or was the total number of coins cut short at the beginning of the new chain?
811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 08, 2014, 12:39:28 AM

LOL, that's our own Kim Jong-un Smiley
I always wonder about such dictators - how stupid do you have to be to believe that trying to hide a problem equals solving it?

guys.  hes running a BUSINESS (the DGEX exchange).  He really has no other choice in the matter; Im sure his business partners supports what hes doing.  He not just some asshole trying to be a dictator, he simply must follow good business practice.  If his business is sponsoring an exchange and forums then they just cannot allow the exchange to be portrayed in a negative light.  Im starting to understand why he was unable to allow his forums asset become a part of the NXT Foundation.
813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 07, 2014, 11:23:45 PM
Is there any type of leadership in this project that is going to say, X is the official forum. The most authentic information is here at X. Or are we just going to let people blindly navigate this "de-centralized" fairyland because "screw centralization"?

Im the one behind the whole 'family' of sites in the "NXT Foundation" that 2Kool4Skewl and I conceptualized. That said, I cannot agree with a previous poster that said that forums.nxtcrypto.org are the "official" forums as we do want decentralization here.

We do also want, however, a clear face of representation of NXT to the world, which is why I and 3 other people are cooperating in the "NXT Foundation"  (www, info, and forums host sites under the nxtcrypto.org domain.  I simply admin DNS for the domain so there is as much decentralization as possible)

Graviton was offered the opportunity to change his site over from nextcoin.org to nxtcrypto.org but he elected to control things there as he saw fit, so btc24 at nxtalk.org agreed to cooperate with us and changed his site over to become forums.nxtcrypto.org  - So everyone please use which ever forums you see fit.

Whatever your personal opinion of Graviton is, it cannot be denied that his exchange and forums were no less than invaluable for spreading NXT.

I might add that the people runnign the individual sites www info and forums are running it out of their own pocket, and I dont believe any of them are original stakeholders (neither am I)

Yes, like someone else had stated, we just stepped up to do a job that needed to be done.

In the interest of time this is a terrible, terrible idea organizationally and strategically if NXT is to succeed in any sort of meaningful way.

you sorely underestimate the amount of time that me and those 3 other people are spending on the info/www/forums sites of nxtcrypto.org.

You just may not be aware of the resources you have available?  visit forums.nxtcrypt.org and start speaking out!

I'm working on setting up a news site, purchased nxtnews.co and of course the alias..

setting up a host and getting wordpress installed.  plan on an honest, unfiltered outlet for articles, charts, and trends.

if anyone had any suggestions or wants to contribute, please let me know

We do have http://info.nxtcrypto.org as our news site that is updated very regularly.  also there is a forum for news items discussion at https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewforum.php?f=49  please give it another shot - we've recently changed the site look.

We're always happy for increased contribution in the forums!

Hey opticalcarrier, thanks for those links, I know about nxtcrypto and have even contributed articles, but there is some biased editing going on there.  i had articles killed on nxt gambling sites and more importantly on dgex adding fees. these are important things for the community to know, and its not acceptable to just pretend all is hunky dory.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I think we as investors need to full story.

I find it very strange that a thread on dgex adding fees was deleted on nxtcrypto.org  Can you tell me when this happened and your user ID there?  I will track it down, there are only few people there with those permissions and it wasnt me

hey OC, not on forums, but on the news site. I submitted and was told they didnt want to publish these kinds of articles.

can you message to me what you posteD?

816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 07, 2014, 08:37:59 PM
...
To fix this weakness forever, a simple no money, no fee transaction could be executed. Whenever you open a wallet, if the NXT client notices that your account on the chain doesn't have a public key associated with, it could issue a 0nxt/0fee transaction that is meant to record the key. It doesn't require much modifications on the current codebase to do this.
...

but that would leave open an attack for a spammer to megaspam the blockchain with millions and millions of empty accounts

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux)

iQIcB...
-----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
lead Nxt developer, gpg key id: FF2A19FA
can anybody tell me how to verify those messages?

his gpg key ID is in his forum signature at the end of every forum message is FF2A19FA so use this command:

gpg --recv-keys FF2A19FA

then copy the text of ONLY -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- and -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- with those 2 lines being the first and last, respectively into a FILENAME, then use:

gpg --verify FILENAME

Hello friends,
Another question for my Nxtmyths video:

Who "works" for Nxt fulltime? Who spends on developing / PR / community helping 40-90 hours/week?

I didn't spend hours on doing this list, so anyone can tell me and I will add him. I am pretty sure about bolded people, but others are only a guess, so you can tell me if you belong to the list of people who work for Nxt fulltime (haven't got another job or work for Nxt during his regular job for 40 hours/week+)

Developers:
BCNext, Come-from-Beyond, Jean-Luc, Klee's crew: Vasilis Kokkinidis,  Grigoris Grigoriadis, Huh

2X84, abuelau, BaiMangal, Ferment, maco, nexern, wesleyh, yueye000, GCInc.,

Debuggers:
Ricot, ImmortAlex, FrictionlessCoin

Managing PR:
Utopianfuture, Joefox, Uniqueorn, NiftyNikel, Salsacz

Helpers:
Pinarello, johnycrypt, Rickyjames,

Graphic designers:

thanks for now, but more questions and PMs will come Smiley

BTW who missed my Questionairre about Nxt myths, you can still fill it here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ksk6tgs6gfrYZLd30NWQw3VfrTkKavHPHlxvnV0sD1E/viewform

Bump, I register also half-timers, these already replied:

Devs:
Abuelau, Graviton (GCInc.) + his assistant, nexern, ImmortAlex,

PR:
Salsacz, Pinarello, Joefox

Im pretty much here in this thread fulltime as well, and also on http://forums.nxtcrypto.org as well as NXT Foundation work of organizing/collaborating with the www/info/forums/download site owners, and also with Jean-Luc on releasing files.  We're trying to get a procedure up for release and Ill go ahead and lay it out here:

1) JLP releases a new client.zip file and uploads it to download.nxtcrypto.org and to forums.nxtcrypto.org

2) JLP updates this thread with a GPG-signed message containing the link to the 2 sites he put the file on as well as the checksum.  We are trying to solidify the standard of path and filename format to something like http://info.nxtcrypto.org/download/nxt-client-0.5.1.zip and http://forums.nxtcrypto.org/download/nxt-client-0.5.1.zip

3) When the www and info site see the new release they update their sites.

4) When I see the new release I update the thread https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=234

does anyone know why links to posts inside a page of this thread almost always go to the very top of the page instead of to the post on that page?

Sometimes it seems to work, but usually seems to not work.
