8361  Other / Meta / Re: Creating an Altcoin Technical Discussion Board on: October 19, 2019, 02:14:29 AM
Thank you guys for the support you are showing to this topic. Let's continue to have a healthy discussion on why we need a technical board for all altcoins rather than scattered threads here and there that are really hard to distinguish from financial, ico, bounty chatter.

The obvious solution would be to report the 14 threads to be moved to speculation, perhaps some others can be trashcanned for being shit - and there's room for technical discussion. Inside technical threads any shitposts should be reported too until shitposters learn that they shouldn't step into anything that has unknown words in it. A new board wouldn't magically solve this problem anyway - it would still rely on reports and moderators to stay clean.

It would have been much easier to do that if the reporting process was any easier. Right now it takes too much effort to report a mere shitpost.

I suggest you create a pool for prize where every Bitcointalk whale can pitch in for the prize money. 1 btc may seem a lot but given the number of people that are on Bitcointalk, it might be too little. Say if some old time donors or vip members decided to get generous, they can pitch in to this pool.

In fact - we could do this yearly. It could be a good way for new established projects to sponsor some creativity in this forum. But we can discuss that later in another thread.
8363  Other / Meta / Re: Creating an Altcoin Technical Discussion Board on: October 18, 2019, 12:39:04 AM
Usually the threshold for creating a new board would be if a certain category of threads crowd out most of an existing board. So for example if technical threads take up 50%+ of Altcoin Discussion you might have a case. But I don't think that's happening. Alternatively, perhaps some other category is dominating Altcoin Discussion and can be split off, leaving Altcoin Discussion for more technical threads, but I don't see that either.

It is not happening because altcoin discussion thread is inundated with signature spammers. It is not happening because there is no space for it to happen. Not the other way around. There are boards for off topic here and there are board for regional languages which are almost always dead. So why not something that let's people discuss the technical things with more ease. I know some people like ETF, Dannyhamilton, etc never leave the technical and project development parts. If a new board existed, it would give us altcoiners a chance to get our queries resolved by them. Not that it cannot happen now, but getting noticed for a technical point among a sea of shit posters is like being the lucky needle in a stack of hay.
8364  Other / Meta / Creating an Altcoin Technical Discussion Board on: October 17, 2019, 11:14:40 PM
I was doing some small research into an Ethereum based problem and ran into obstacles that had no specific dedicated board for it to be addressed. So I ended up posting it in the Bitcoin Technical Discussion board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193854.0

It is easy to dismiss this idea but it is very important that it does not get dismissed. It may not be practical to have a dedicated board for every altcoin but surely something that crosses a certain market cap level, could get its own board. Altcoins like Ethereum, Cosmos, DAI are pretty complex to understand in the first go and it will definitely be beneficial for all of us here in this forum if they got their own dedicated sub boards.

But in the case that is not possible, maybe a general Altcoin technical board for discussion of all altcoins could be the least thing this community deserves.
8365  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to prove investors that your FinTech idea is worthy? on: October 17, 2019, 11:01:21 PM
If only ideas were so easy to come up with and execute it exactly as thought in the head then everyone with every idea in their head could get it funded. Sadly that is not the case.
The article is nice but basic and says nothing about some real world practicalities like regulatory saturation and commercial application in relation to competition in the niche.
Plus it does not tell you to be not too confident about your ideas and be receptive of criticism. That I find is the biggest flaw in new project builders.
8366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum technical question on: October 17, 2019, 09:58:10 PM
I am not fully sure that this is 100% a technical question or not. But I came across this other thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193658.0 Here the OP wants to export and import a ratcheting address into an offline wallet but was not succeeding.

This gave me an idea to try something on my own but I failed too. I was trying to import the Ratcheting address as a watch only address so I could see all the new addresses it generated in Localethereum and see what kind of balances were traded. This is purely for personal financial book keeping reasons. But needless to say I failed.
Not only the public watch only mode not work but I was also not able to import the Chain key as a wallet that reflected balance in all its sub address that were derived from that main or first address.

Is there a proper way to do this? I am afraid I had to ask this here in the Bitcoin technical support part because there is no Altcoin Technical discussion board here.
8367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Localethereum - wallet export problem on: October 17, 2019, 09:51:06 PM
You will not be that lucky to get rid of idiotic signature campaign posters like that.

I found some information for you, according to https://whitepaper.localethereum.com
Quote
RATCHETING ADDRESSES
Each address in a LocalEthereum wallet contains an assigned index number beginning from zero. This index number is known colloquially as n. There can’t be any skipped indices.

Each LocalEthereum wallet begins with a random 32‐byte seed known as the zero‐index chain key (chainKey0). The seed can be used to determine the private key for the wallet’s first address (address0) and any subsequent addresses, making the system a deterministic wallet.

The private key for addressn can be determined from chainKeyn, and chainKeyn can be determined from chainKeyn‐1. Hence, if you know chainKeyn then you can determine addressm, where m is any number between n and infinity.

For this simple ratcheting algorithm, we use a common one‐way hashing function called HMAC‐SHA256. The calculations are as follows for every n-index chain key:

The n-index address private key (addressn) is HMAC‐SHA256(chainKeyn, 0x0001).
The next chain key (chainKeyn+1) is HMAC‐SHA256(chainKeyn, 0x02).

The page goes on to explain how the lowest chain key is backed up and not your older addresses, but I don't think there is any information on how to import this chain key or where to import it. I will search more and let you know here if I find anything.
8368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Localethereum - wallet export problem on: October 17, 2019, 11:41:18 AM
Yup I was part of that campaign. legendster conducted it, I see he is offline for a few days else I would have asked him.

I just tried this myself and I was able to export the json and import it into MyCrypto but I cheated a little bit.
I opened the file with a text pad and copied the only private key in there that is titled "chain_private_key" I only saw a single address pop up in MyCrypto so I am not sure if it actually imported the entire chain or just the "first address" listed in there. I'll keep digging and if I find anything I will tell you here.
8369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 16, 2019, 07:46:55 AM
See my first paragraph in this post and my previous post. Every 2FA app will work on every site.

Hey thanks. This is groundbreaking for me. This will change the way I use internet now. I didn't notice your message before because there are just so many replies here. It all got a little mixed up. Thanks once again.
8370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 16, 2019, 06:18:20 AM
the question remains if other platforms and services do not use this and stick to google authenticator and authy, what choice do we have as end users?

As far as I know, the platform/service doesn't even know what 2 factor authenticator app you're using. So this shouldn't really be a problem to be honest. You could probably even use a 2FA app you develop yourself(if you know how to, of course).

(correct me If I'm wrong, though I'm very sure of this.)

No. Well as far as I know I mean.
I know some platforms want you to use Google authenticator only. Or Authy only. Or whatever app it its that they are supporting. I would like for someone to confirm or deny this please.
Because otherwise this could change the way I use 2fa because obviously I have been doing it wrong.
8371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Howto] Give Bitcoin as a gift on: October 16, 2019, 04:55:43 AM
1. Since you're not using an air-gapped device to generate the paper wallet(hence the private keys could potentially be exposed), I suggest giving the paper wallet to the person as soon as possible after you've sent some BTC to the wallet. Or better yet, if you're going to give the BTC in person anyway, let them install the wallet on the spot then send over the funds. Letting them have their first transaction immediately is a good plus in my opinion.

2. Don't let them use Jaxx[1]. They have a bad reputation of ignoring vulnerabilities in the past. Let them use something bitcoin-only that has segwit support like Mycelium, as I think it's better for you to not overexpose them to other cryptocurrencies so early on as Bitcoin itself could be pretty difficult to grasp for other people in the first place.

+1 Decent guide nonetheless.

[1] https://www.ccn.com/users-report-losing-400000-due-to-jaxx-wallet-vulnerability

I agree.
I've never use Jaxx since they held my coins for days for no reasons whatsoever and the support was unavailable for tha entire duration. They eventually replied to me and cleared my funds but they are too unprofessional for anyone to suggest them as the first wallet of anybody.

Once I lost my phone and with it by google authenticator. All my authentications were lost and I had a lot of trouble. This seems like a great way to replace the need of Google authenticator in my life but the question remains if other platforms and services do not use this and stick to google authenticator and authy, what choice do we have as end users?
8373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New scam technique on Telegram. on: October 16, 2019, 01:45:43 AM
This is October 2019 and this is not a new technique. Seen it since last year. Hundreds of attempts like these. Unless you are expecting someone to message you. The moment you hit high user number groups like exchange supports or new ICO, you are bound to get these. Just be extra vigilant. Good share.
8374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Banks are Blocking funds? From Exchangers on: October 16, 2019, 01:36:36 AM
Here's a tip. Stick to OTC and DEXs. There is no way banks can get a hold of you or your crypto-to-fiat transactions in what so ever ways. If you don't want to use Localbitcoins, then use any one of its hundred alternatives. As long as there are built in escrows and you are not retarded, you can do just fine by limiting your financial transactions to these OTC platforms.
8375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Unable to send BTC - Incorrect Password on: October 15, 2019, 08:43:05 PM
I have 0.05 BTC in my account but I am unable to transfer them. I have multiple previous transfers. I did not make any changes. But bow it says incorrect password. Does anyone know how I can get help?

Youve been online in October 13, 2019, 12:26:19 AM but you havent answered on most people's question on here on which wallet you are referring into?

You can import keys on other wallets as well like Electrum for you to get accessed into those funds once again. If you do talk about some web-wallets password feature
then you do just need to make use of their lost password option if you dont have any ways left then the thing suggested by most people here is ideal.

Well then I think we all should stop trying to help this guy. This is a useless post and probably nothing like this ever happened. Newbies make such posts and forget everything about it in the hopes of stuff like this giving them more post count. I donno what policy moderators follow here and if they can lock this thread so more useful threads can keep getting bumped instead of this stupid one.
8376  Economy / Goods / Re: STORM AREA 51 T-SHIRT - BULLETPROOF on: October 15, 2019, 08:30:37 PM
This is a Bitcointalk exclusive you won't find anywhere else! Get your piece of meme history, act now before the aliens hunt you down and probe your anus for not wearing fresh gear (unless you are into that sort of thing).

Unless someone from china decides to screenshot this and make a better one and sell it for lower margin and higher quality in all of China.
I heard of a site called Threadless years ago. Go check them out, you can set up your own store there and then promote it to sell your stuff. Their fabric is very durable as well. I regularly buy for Christmas from there.
8377  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Get into the $8600 Zone? on: October 15, 2019, 07:58:03 PM
First and foremost, I think $8,000 is the very core of support so it's not impossible to touch it anytime. If there is no FUD then the market will eventually go up following with the sentiments of the people.

The only problem now here is how would Bitcoin break or even reach the $9,000 resistance within this Q4? FOMO would start if the people see some positive sentiment that would eventually starts the bull run but I doubt it will happen this year.

Sadly market does not move based on sentiments. $8000 is not a true support zone. It is $7600. Take a look at the charts before you say that $8000 is the support zone. Just because there are some corrections at that level, does not mean it becomes a support zone.
8378  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info Questions/2FA on: October 15, 2019, 06:46:02 PM
Going by that, I will not be suggesting you any additional methods. I would also request other members here to follow suit.

No problem in cooperating but your claim needs strong proof which I don't see, mind elaborating? (doesn't matter if it's circumstantial)

If it's about op not having access to their email account and mnemonic, then no it's not enough. We're talking about an old neglected wallet, losing information wouldn't be weird.

Of course I have no proof of this and this is merely a speculation on what it could be. Without further proof from OP it would be unwise to help him because we all could be helping a hacker get funds that belonged to someone else. I am not the one claiming that I lost some of the most important things any bitcoin wallet owner should keep safe. While at the same time saying that I only have access to information that can be stolen with a cookie infection.

So the burden of providing proof that what the OP is saying is not false lies with OP himself. Not me.

Do you find my logic refutable?
8379  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Get into the $8600 Zone? on: October 15, 2019, 06:26:47 PM
in my personal opinion, there might be price fluctuations one week before Bitcoin Futures is launched (only predictions). I personally as a trading player who is more inclined to technical analysis, of course, will be more hopeful if the process of launching Bitcoin futures does not have a significant impact.

Actually people don't care about ETF's anymore. Back when it was first being discussed, it might have been important, but now it has been rejected so many times that traders, serious or casuals, just don't care. And I think that's the way it should be.

Remember when everyone was losing their shit about Bakkt launch and the BTC futures then? See what happened? BTC crashed rather than gaining momentum. So let's not worry about BTC futures. If it happens, good.. if not, who cares?
8380  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Get into the $8600 Zone? on: October 15, 2019, 10:25:32 AM

until now I am still waiting for information that contains FOMO in it. Well, I think the price of bitcoin is so close to the price of $ 8,700, I think it's pretty easy. however, given the current situation, the fact is that bitcoin is really trying to reach that price. I don't know whether today or tomorrow the price of bitcoin reaches $ 8700, but I'm pretty sure bitcoin can pass that level this month. however, some analyzes that exist today say that if the bear market occurs, it could make the price of bitcoin fall to as low as $ 7700.

You are a perfect example of someone that speaks too much but says too little. Maybe we can call this the signature campaign effect?

Returning to topic. Yes, the level of btc price is way too close to 8600, like I said before, it is a very short term speculation. Bitcoin is definitely going to swing past this level. The only question is whether it will be able to sustain it long enough.

Last year the $7200 levels were considered solid as prices hovered there for months before sliding down to this year's $3500 levels. Which is mind boggling if you think about it since the price of this very asset was nearly 6 times that in early 2018. The good thing is, Bitcoin swings happen way too quickly unlike the regular stock markets so history will definitely repeat itself.
