Any plans to adjust the donor levels ... 50 btc fro VIP is now upwards of $5k?

Nope.

There may be new donators levels eventually, but the current ones will not change price.
882  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 24, 2013, 10:15:05 AM
Linking trust on this site with reddit is a bad idea IMO, reddit is too easy to game.  All that would do is create a false sense of security for scammers and probably make it easier for them to get higher numbers.
883  Other / Meta / Re: 'Open Transactions' subforum in Project Development on: May 24, 2013, 10:11:43 AM
How many new posts are there per day that would fit into this section?  Providing links is a good way to show that a new section is necessary.

I'm new to mining and I' just published a site/page that shows all the current coins and their values by your hashrate.  It is at http://www.WhereToMine.com  ...
I'm interested in getting opinions on it - seeing that I just published it yesterday!  I built the page because I couldn't find anything that showed this (well, on a single page).

The SHA hash rate only triggers BTC calculations, the other SHA coins aren't calculating when I hit the button.

Cool site though.
885  Other / Meta / Re: Charity Board (NOT FOR BEGGARS, FOR REAL CHARITIES!) on: May 23, 2013, 08:31:26 PM
There's not enough talk (that I've seen) to merit a charity board as of right now.  Start some charity threads and see if people are interested.

I suggest getting a reputable escrow holder to collect the money if you actually do something.

Sounds good! Who would you recommend as an escrow holder?

If you're serious about it, talk to John K.  My suggestion would be to get a contract setup specifying what will happen to the bitcoins depending on the situation.  That way there's no grey area for people to worry about you taking them and running.
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Must read] Could an Inside Sneak Attack on Bitcoin Destroy It? on: May 23, 2013, 08:18:42 PM
Sorry for disturbing you a bit, I just wanted to check if you are ready to be unplugged and, in effect, let others have deeper insight into soul of someone who is moderator here.

My thoughts on politics/government intervention/etc don't have anything to do with my moderation.  The biggest part of my moderation is putting posts in the right sub-forum  Cool, that and trying to warn people about possible scams/sketchy links.

And to have something on topic (because completely off OP topic posts are bad)...

Legal bitcoin businesses are good!  This allows for the wider adoption of bitcoin, people are less likely to use it if they think it's only for illegal activities.  There are always going to be underground things with bitcoin, that part will never go away.
887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Must read] Could an Inside Sneak Attack on Bitcoin Destroy It? on: May 23, 2013, 08:02:09 PM
You are nice example of human successfuly conditioned by fear to become system-man, a slave. We can never agree on essentials because, in a way, we don't live on the same planet.

You just sound crazy to me.

I follow the rules for the most part, because it makes life a lot easier that way.  In theory they exist for a reason and are there for the greater good.  Personally I'd rather learn to game the system (and work within it) than try to fight against it.

But back on topic,
I don't think the government will ever be able to control bitcoin, unless they spend a lot of money developing ASICs or take control of enough hashing power.  Even if that happens, something new will come along.
888  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sci-Fi idea on: May 23, 2013, 07:52:27 PM
True, but keep in mind that they are ALIENS, not government Smiley
They want to concur, not to destroy Smiley

Who are they agreeing with?

Or do you mean they want to conquer?

Cooperating with the government is probably a good thing

Enough said?

Conspiracy theory much?

More like, trying to hide income from the government usually ends up badly.  It's definitely possible to do it, but I'd advise against it.  Businesses/Exchanges need to follow rules, or else they'll get hit like Mt Gox did.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Must read] Could an Inside Sneak Attack on Bitcoin Destroy It? on: May 23, 2013, 07:29:44 PM
Cooperating with the government is probably a good thing, it's not like they're ever going to control bitcoin.  People will always be able to do what they want, because I believe the majority will support that.
891  Other / Meta / Re: @bitcointalk.org emails on: May 23, 2013, 06:12:59 PM
It would be hard to decide to use, as how long would the service be available? No one would know. It would be very hard to beat gmail, and gmail comes free.

I don't think it'd be used as a mail email, but more of a vanity thing for bitcoin related stuff.
892  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: README replies on: May 23, 2013, 05:49:22 PM
It negatively affects crowdsourcing. You have people all over the internet linking to a specific forum. Any of a thousand thousand people might stumble on a particular thread in this forum. A person with crucial insight or knowledge on the issue at hand might look for the reply button, in eager anticipation of his stunning ability to dazzle people in this particular area of expertise.

Bewildered by the lack of reply-button he might think that signing up will grant posting privileges. Once this does not pan out he will eventually either leave or end up finding the newbie section and all these procedures for getting in. Upon seeing all of this hokey stuff, the person will then make a second decision, to put up with it and either keep posting (four hours five posts and all that) or stand at the mercy of an admin being willing to post his comment (which, in contemplating spending 30 minutes writing a post, might be too much of a risk).

No, more likely - and especially if this is a busy person with other, more important things to do (unlike me, etc.), the person will simply leave the site and never bother with it - until the cycle repeats the next time his knowledge and insight is occasioned by a link to this forum.

We might miss some good people this way, but I believe it cuts out more useless people than deters good posters.

Do you want to spam my inbox? How does that helps us?

What does spam have to do with it?

@OP
Not a bad idea.  Though, my suggestion would be to make them on the expensive side if it's ever done.  That way people aren't creating tons of them.
895  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: May 23, 2013, 02:28:27 PM
Competition is a good thing. There's room for multiple successful crypto currencies, and competition will weed out the ones that have flaws.

The problem is most are just clones of BTC that really offer nothing new.

The ones that offer nothing shouldn't gain much traction and will die off. I haven't invested any time or money into the alt-coin currencies, but I don't see them as a threat either. It is possible that some will provide good concepts which can either cause the currency to take off on its own or the benefits could be added to BTC in the future.

I don't see them as a threat either.  There are definitely some good concepts out there.

I'm just trying to stop people from wasting time/money on new cryptos.  A lot of newbies don't know better and will end up doing it, I just want to help people by giving them a warning.

897  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FAIL AUCTION Avalon Asic Batch 2 on: May 23, 2013, 11:08:09 AM
there is a small difference that you give importance. When I find another vendor and attempt to negotiate with the seller, I communicated to Tysat. It's the least in a business of $ 20,000.
But when another client has tysat not tell me until he sent the contract. But not only that, if you had completed the purchase. Why do not you write in the post auction?

Once the transaction was confirmed I posted in my auction thread that it was over.  I waited till I was sure the transaction was going through, which I did after John K sent out the signed escrow contract.

Disclaimer: i hope nobody mistakes my rant for "begging" or "useless spam", because it's meant to be neither.

I just wanted to say that I was quite surprised when I wanted to register here and saw these "newbie restrictions". You know, sometimes one has to think beyond immediate and most obvious effects of his actions. There are such things as side-effects, and even side-effects of those side-effects, and they not necessarily manifest immediately, and may stay unnoticeable for some time, or even forever, especially if there is no one to notice them and to determine their reason. That's why most obvious and seemingly effective actions are often the least beneficial ones. I totally respect everyone's right to make decisions, and I don't hope to influence anything or anybody, but I still feel obliged to express my opinion about why those "newbie restrictions" cause much more harm than benefit.

First, let's talk about benefits.
As a reason for the restrictions we have "a mass of trolling". Oh yes, the Trolling. People love this word so much but seldom understand what it really means. Trolling is not insulting, swearing or otherwise behaving like an ass-hole. Trolling is a style of discussion that provokes thought in the smart ones and emotions in the stupid ones. If you read books you might notice that good books often troll you, but that's exactly the reason to read them. I don't think it's a good sign when crowds of people get trolled and humiliated by their governments every single day and ignore it, yet the same people get so upset when some random guy on the internet that has absolutely no power over them ONLY writes a short piece of text that turns out to be difficult to understand and/or to agree with. Come on guys, nobody is even shouting at you, it's just freaking TEXT! Have you never read books? Oh yeah, I forget, in 2013 reading is not so fashionable anymore. Still, why so much distress over other opinions? I can't help but have an impression that many people not only ignore books but also ignore even verbal communication! Come out of your basement and try actually talk to people, and you will find out that many of them have opinions different from yours and might even say things that cause you "emotional response". Yes, the feeling they call "butthurt". Maybe it would be better just to accept the simple fact that some people may be wrong and it's normal. Even YOU may be wrong in some cases. I would even dare say that virtually EVERYONE is wrong in at least some of his opinions. Me too, of course. But in order to evolve mentally and spiritually you just have to LISTEN to other opinions because sometimes they are less wrong than yours, even if it doesn't look like it. I've known many people who were said to be trolls and most of them were much smarter than average. Actually, I began to like trolls, because they make me think, because they introduce doubt, because they always make the place less boring and more dynamic. And I am convinced that a healthy dose of trolling is always beneficial to any community. You might disagree with me, but then don't complain if a troll-free place becomes sterile, stale, boring and degraded. Don't fight trolls, they make the stupid smarter and the smart more comfortable, they are a moving force of a community, they make it evolve. The best collective ideas and content often come from the most troll-tolerant communities.

Second, about harmful side-effects.
Do you know what a human being feels when he is treated as a sub-human? Humiliation. Bitcoin is very attractive to anarchists and they are a significant part of the community. And the anarchists are the most susceptible to humiliation. The gutless state-loving conformist will happily comply with any restrictions, even with the most stupid ones. The free human will protest against any bureaucracy. Did you even think that not all "newbies" are new to Bitcoin? You know, not all people learn about Bitcoin from this forum, some learn about it from other sources. Then they come here, already expert in Bitcoin, and now they have to make 5 posts in Newbie section before they are promoted to fully-enabled people. Okay, so what to post here? I don't have anything to ask, or anything to tell. I have no immediate desire to help other newbies. Besides, it sucks to be treated like a criminal when you are not. That's why I'll never visit Israel: I don't have anything prohibited in my bag, I just don't want those people to search my underwear. What they are doing amounts to "insult" to me. Because I feel insulted when I'm treated like a terrorist (or a troll) before I even try do something suspicious. Not that I am even going to try.

That's pretty much all I wanted to say. I MIGHT try and gain those 5 posts, but I really doubt it, with such an attitude I am given.

Thanks for a warm welcome.

Sorry to hear that, but the pros outweigh the cons on the newbie restrictions.

It's been taken care of.

Do not forget you he takes me to accept my offer more than 24 hours. Also to send the contract took more than 24 hours. But if I have a problem and reply within 24 hours, I've done wrong.

(All dates and times are EST)

When you offered I answered saying I'd have to think about it and get back to you later that night.

It did take me longer than I thought, first responded May 18 7:30 AM, told you on May 19 8:30 AM that I accepted the offer and would get a contract drawn up.

You then told me that your offer was contingent on another offer you had not going through, and I said that I'd keep the auction going for now.

The contract was provided on May 20 11:00 AM (after you said you would buy it).

I hadn't heard anything from you till May 21 12:30 PM, at which point I'd taken the new offer.

Anyways, I'm the seller.  I can chose not to sell to you if the contract hasn't been executed, which it hasn't.  I'm not sure why you're making such a big deal out of this.  You moved too slowly.
