To me the interesting part of this offering is the ability to sell power back to the grid. This means you can get a return even if bitcoin mining goes bust. And you can always rent the space out for other companies that need a DC.

The ASIC seems like it wil be a long way off if it gets off the ground at all. I also believe they will be sending out old bfl singles they get back because of the trade in offer to their old customers still on the waiting list then they will not have to build all the singles they have on pre order Smiley

In b4 fractional manufacturing.....

Well, the guy who runs BMF has been basically character assassinating my plan on IRC (plan assassinating?) because he thinks "small" scale (as in, less than hundreds of mw and up) power generation (green or not) is not cost effective and cannot turn a profit.

The thing is, I actually want to roll that out first BEFORE the DC, it seems to be just so much more profitable and easier to scale.

As one of your biggest shareholders at 26%, I have pointed out that you have been trading away the equity in your company to sell more shares, thus lowering the stock price. You have said some pretty horrifying things on IRC recently, like how you were talking about selling all your bonds at 0.19 or 0.15. I'm not sure if you are serious or just being a bad manager, but I've lost 50% by investing in DMC and it looks like the bloodbath is not over. I've repeatedly offered to give you advice, help you turn your company around, but you have refused and grandstanded the entire time.

I wish I could just sell out but I can't even sell shares at 0.50. The ask has been there for days. No one is buying your fund. And when you finally get to the point where *everyone* knows that trading with you will always result in a loss, no one will trade with you, and your issue will collapse.

Prove me wrong.

I never said I was going to sell my assets at 0.19 or 0.15. I said even if I were to do something I will never do and sell my assets at 0.190/mh and assuming BFL isn't lying about their specs, I could end up with 200 ghash in SC Singles. Problem is, a) I would never do that, b) I don't trust BFL.

So, there, I proved you wrong. That was easy. I'm not sure I like a troll owning 26% of my company.
902  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DiabloMiner GPU Miner (LP, BFI_INT, async nw, multipool, 79xx GCN) on: June 17, 2012, 01:58:47 PM
I used to mine with phoenix on Eligius. The hash rate reported by both of them did agree (in average). Now I am trying Diablo. This miner reports much higher hash rate (by 15%). However, Eligius reports only 53% of the hash rate reported by Diablo. When I count shares/blocks submitted in last 15 minutes it actually does roughly match. So it seems that despite apparent higher hash rate less shares/blocks are submitted to the pool.

I got Diablo from binary zip archive from link at the very front of this topic. It seems to be quite up to date. Timestamp on DiabloMiner.jar in archive is May 23. So it is recent version.

I was searching this forum and googled it. However, I am still in the dark abyss (and Diablo is lurking somewhere around ...) Does what I described ring a bell?

I have the same trouble on a 5970. DiabloMiner shows 740 mhash/s, and the pool (triplemining) displays only 367 mhash/s. I tested it around 12 hours, and nothing changed. That's occurs when I upgraded to the last version using the link in the first post.

That should have already been fixed. Make sure you're on the absolute newest version.

He doesnt live in Australia where the government is introducing carbon taxes....

You might be able to sell carbon offsets to Australian companies in future  Smiley

That'd be interesting. I forgot about the carbon offset market.

So I'm assuming you will be adding BFL ASIC rigs to this setup instead of whatever else you were planning? At ~$30k per terahash, it doesn't seem space-efficient to use anything else even if power and cooling were free.

I don't believe BFL's offerings. That is just impossible, they would have had needed access to a 28nm fab somewhere.

[ copy of email sent to support@enterpoint.co.uk ]

Dear Enterpoint

It has come to my attention that you are distributing a modified version of the cgminer code in binary only form from your support website here:
http://www.enterpoint.co.uk/cairnsmore/cgminer_windows.zip

As the maintainer of cgminer, I am pointing out to you that the codebase you are building on is licensed GNU Public License version 3.0. The terms of said license agreement are here:
https://raw.github.com/ckolivas/cgminer/master/COPYING
which can also be found here:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

In violation of this license, you are releasing binary-only modified versions of cgminer which also include a binary only blob to be used with your hardware, as well as completely removing any reference to the original license agreement. I am going to assume this is a simple misunderstanding of the terms and conditions of the licensing agreement.

I hereby kindly request you stop distributing cgminer in this illegal manner. You are obliged to provide links to the source code for all modifications done to our code and the source code for the binary firmware you include with this archive, as well as the original licensing agreement, should you wish to further distribute this code.

If you wish to provide support for your hardware with cgminer, there are 2 broad options:
1. Provide modifications to cgminer code directly to the maintainer (i.e. myself) to be included in the master codebase upstream, add binary blobs to the code upstream and provide a URL link to where the original source for the binary firmware may be found. This will be the easiest to maintain long term and benefits everyone the most.
2. Maintain a fork of cgminer with your modifications to the source and the source for all dependent binary firmwares freely available for download.

I hope cgminer support for your products can continue to be provided in the appropriate manner for your company and client's benefit.

Regards,
Con Kolivas

I'm going to also have to chime in here. If you're shipping cgminer, you're also shipping the DiabloMiner kernel, which is also GPL3. Please comply with the GPL.

I think that might be Diablo-D3. He's been doing a lot of moving around of his fund to profit from prices difference. That's about his share of the operation for sale there I believe. Maybe he could confirm.

I own 658 of BTC-Mining atm.

910  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Bitcorp Mining Company - BTCMC 40 GH/s with plans for 50 GH/s on: June 13, 2012, 02:37:47 AM
When is next dividend?

The dividends are paid on the first of each month.  So, the next payment will be July 1st.

Up until now the dividends were paid to the angel investors directly, and not through GLBSE.  The July 1st dividend will be the first to be paid through the GLBSE platform.

thanks!

When are you going to verify on GLBSE, also, why aren't you in #bitcoin-assets on Freenode?

L -> R or maybe R -> L

As Inaba had posted before - putting these next to each other (horizontal) is sub-optimal.

If I get a 2nd MR I am thinking of going more vertical

Yeah, thats just designed wrong. It should be front -> back with cases no longer than 29", and a multiple of them needs to be no wider than 19" but as close as possible.

916  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Diablo Mining Company (DMC) [5.0 ghash] on: June 11, 2012, 10:57:43 AM
We have now crossed the 5 ghash line. At this rate, we should be past 10 ghash before the end of July.

so you're an ETF / fund now, not a mining company?

No, but its also a sin to let the money sit. Lets say I would have bought that 5 ghash straight out in harcdware... that would have taken 3-9 months to get here, yet I've already paid the first dividend 15 days in this way. I think its a win win situation.
917  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Algorithmically placed FPGA miner: 245MH/s/chip and still rising on: June 10, 2012, 11:18:10 PM
Xilinx guarantees their chips can tolerate operating junction temperatures up to 125°C (see page 2 of DS162) without damage, for all temperature grades (they're manufactured identically, then sorted by testing).
That's the Absolute Maximum Rating. If you look at the footnote it warns: "Exposure to Absolute Maximum Ratings conditions for extended periods of time might affect device reliability." So they guarantee it won't die immediately, but not that it won't eventually fail in a few weeks or months as a result of running it out of spec which is what ztex is worried about.

Same goes for GPUs. AMD says their chips will happily run at 100c+, but me and everyone else has been using 85c as the maximum safe 24/7 mining temp.

It sounds like the plan is to use outside air for 8-9 months of the year.

This is ok, but keep in mind that you'll also need equipment to filter and condition that air (add or remove humidity depending on the season).

I've been doing the open-windows-with-box-fans thing and you wouldn't believe how much dirt (and now pollen) come in.  In the winter we had more static than usual, and when it rains it comes in (didn't really snow here this winter).  This is fine at my office, but probably wouldn't suit your operation.

I know humidifiers rated to run 24x7 aren't cheap and require water service, which you might not have considered.

Actually, thats the funny thing. Computers can work in humidity that is too dry or too wet for us to be comfortable. There are these things called economizers that exist to pass filtered air into the building instead of running the air conditioner to do the same thing.

You can also have economizers for water cooled setups, and use cooling towers to cool the water over long term periods (the math here, from what I can tell, with a cooling tower + external pump efficiency of EER 14, cooling 3 gallons/minute 10 degrees lower is equivalent to 1 ton).

Getting too dry doesn't seem to be an issue in Maine, even in the winter.
