mac wallet perchance? now i'm investing in this, i'd like to have my coins on my main pooter  Grin

Yes I was going to ask Unick to make one, just as soon as the fork is complete. So just in case there are some code changes, I won't have to bug him twice.

fabulous, thanks!

I already have a working build from the latest commits.  I must warn you, I never found why the build sometimes failed on some Macs... So it might work or not for you. but you can have a try Smiley

http://cap.blockx.info/bottlecaps-2.1.0.0-macosx.dmg

only 8 hours left before the fork !!!

Thanks Unick!

I put this on my release page:

Thanks for the reply. But no one knows what the stake field is for?

When coins do get staked they move from balance to stake. Then after 25 confirmations they move back to balance. So they are only in the stake field for a short time.

I have a couple questions hopefully someone knowledgeable can answer. What does custom change address do?

Also, I have a ton of small inputs staking at this point. Is there a way to keep the coinage / weight while also compiling all of the coins into a large sum to be staked? Is the only way to send to another address (while losing the coin age / weight) and then wait the 10 days for staking again?

Good information above. I can also add:

The custom change address will send the remainder(if any) of the blocks you are sending, to an address of your choosing. This address could be your own, or a friends.  If this is not chosen, the wallet will use one from the pool (saved in wallet*.dat) or generate a new one.

Currently in version 1.4- you may need to combine inputs into a larger set, after many months. Versions 1.5 will control this more efficiently for the user.  Expected release is Q3'14.

There is no way to combine and send coins to another address without loosing your coin days.

Some good analyses here.

One thing to keep in mind in regards to inflation and block time, is that both HBN and CAP (not sure about TEK) have a degrading stake based on difficulty. Since HBN is 30 seconds and CAP is 1 minute, the difficulty for CAP should increase twice as fast as HBN, thereby decreasing the PoS reward and slowing inflation, at a faster pace (perhaps not supply) as HBN.

All in all it should be interesting to watch.

I think this will be the first I am looking forward to July 4th, since being a child. Although the fireworks will be a bit different this time.  Grin

Tranz help HBN raise not CAP.
HB is in very bad stage now

Tranz is going to return to HBN very soon for version 1.5 of the wallet. Remember that HBN is a long term coin that doesn't need to be updated constantly. Sometimes it is best to apply updates and new wallet releases once every few months rather than very frequently.

Very true. I still have 30% of people on version 1.3.

I can not control the price. The network is very healthy, the wallet is working good. The price is a reflection of the community involvement.  One person a community is not.

The price is not as important to me as some.  If we tank we tank, if we sky rocket great. But my plans won't change either way.

Tranz are you expecting version 1.5 of the wallet to be a required update, therefore a fork?  Would you consider adding a maximum subsidy in order to insure smooth and safe supply growth?

Yes I think that is one thing that will be added.

so whats better now HBN or CAP ?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think they compliment each other. They both have different strengths and weaknesses. But I am interested in other people's opinion as well..

911  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: June 30, 2014, 01:06:24 AM
block explorer at blockx is not current, can someone have it caught up?  I have 64 connections at the moment.

And also a question, if I have PoS orphans in my wallet file, what happens to them, do the coins stake again, or I just lose the reward on these?  Anyway to remove these from the wallet list, or it will clean them up later?

Unick controls blockx, he is out right now. We have another at http://162.217.249.198:1080/chain/Hobonickels curtsy of Ghostlander

PoS orphans retry themselves, no coin days are lost, and when they do stake you get an increased reward.

Use the menu options wallet->repair wallet. It can take a min or so if there are a lot of transactions, so be patient.

How do you guys get 50 peers? I normally get between 13-16. It makes me wonder if something is wrong...

you mean wallet connections? i have 16 connections on my windows wallet...

You can use the start up switch -maxconnections=100 or put it in your config maxconnections=100

Looks like you guys are having some fun here.  Grin

I haven't read through this thread just skimmed the last 10 pages or so. But I wanted to put out a few ideas.

First off regarding inflation and moving towards PoS.  Looking at the number of coins out there and the current trading level, this coin is getting close to 1 satoshi, which is something you would want to avoid. Granted you can always move to trading in the LTC market, but still not the best for longevity.

So with that in mind, I would choose an PoS rate that would actually lower the inflation. This can be done by choosing a percentage that is not too high, but not so low as to discourage people from staking. Maybe somewhere in the 10-25% range, not totally sure as I haven't run any numbers on it.  It would also be good to make the stake weight start at a 5 days or less. This would allow more coins to stake consistently and help push the PoW difficulty up higher so there would be less PoW and more PoS. Also a max reward for PoS should be put into the fork.

I think you may also want to do this in phases. The first phase I would personally do would be to fork with a checkpoint server in place. This will stop the 51% double spend attacks, and when the fork for PoS happens, it will help to keep all clients on the same chain. You could turn it back off later, after the coin is stable again.

Also I took a quick gander at the code base. And this was forked off an older version of bitcoin, which is actually good. It should fit much nicer with the current PoS fork of PeerCoin and the like.

I am happy to answer any questions from certain devs ( you know who you are  Wink ), if something in the code doesn't make since.  I may be able to, if I have time, peer review(Q/C) any changes before they go live as well.

Anyway good luck on your project!

Less than a week until new PoS kicks in. On 4 July will everyone start with 0 weight or will current accrued weight count on fork date?

Be interesting to see what happens with the price in a months' time. Truckcoin is the only other PoS coin running at 200% PoS and trading at 500-1000 satoshis, with double the coins of Bottlecap. Seems its a good pair buy with some CAP.

Weight will not reset, it will go up, and more coins will become eligible as well, since the start date moves up by 15 days.
916  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: June 26, 2014, 01:50:55 AM
I have added an additional 1000 coins to each of the wallets I use for stake for charity listed on the charity page on hobonickels.info http://hobonickels.info/donate.php

There are now 2,000 each in those wallets and 50% of all stakes are going to those addresses. I will be adding more in the future as well.

We are looking for "real" charities, or someone who will run service for HBN. Some restrictions do apply.  Please feel free to write here or PM me.

Thanks!
"Some restrictions do apply"

Could you elaborate?

Basically if it is not a true charity, or that service you are giving for HBN is not a true service. Like simply mining, or just liking on facebook, ect. Then I don't think there will be a place on the website. Also anything that has fee for service, such a pool, really aren't eligible either.

But otherwise everyone is encouraged to apply.

OK, yes I completely agree with those points. I'd expect no less than a charity be properly registered as such in its legal jurisdiction etc.
I probably read too much into your comment but your also raise important points about what constitutes a service to HBN. Mining and social media awareness are important but not really game changers.

Basically right now PressTab running the homepage, and Unick and ghostlander running the block explorers are services to HBN. They require money to run, and time to up keep.

I also want to say the HBN network is growing very nicely. I have no issue grabbing 50+ peers, about 2 hours to get to that point, and to get to 100+ doesn't take more then a full day on the network.

Also the staking difficulty is starting to move up nicely. We recently had difficulty of 0.00414508, which also pushed down the stake % to 98% yearly ROI.  I expect it will be back down into the .0039 before too long and back to 100%, but the network is growing, pretty much as planned.

As I suggested we should see the stake diff stay constant in the .004 -.006 range here in the next year or so and the stake % down to 90 ish.

Once the hard fork for CAPs is complete, and that network looks to be doing well. I am going to begin work on 1.5. So if you have any suggestion or bug reports, please let me know.

this is not a registered charity, more of an information service

http://www.thescribe.eu

and I'm a hobo.
does that count?

 Cool

Well the website in question should also have a "We accept HoboNickels" and/or a HBN link to the homepage.  Otherwise that page, as nice as it is, doesn't really qualify for a HBN service or charity.

But thanks for asking..

This POS rate is insane.

From a prior post:

Moving to 200% yearly degrading will give people a reason to mine and hold this coin again. It fill the niche perfectly.

Very low 1-5% PPC,BC, AC, WC and a few others (CAPS Current)
Low        25-50% Mint, PHS
Mid         100% HBN, NVC
******  200% CAPs ******
Very High 500% TEK.

Plus the 200% is diminishing and has a max payout if I understand correctly.

diminishing? how's that? isn't it the same as in HoboNickels' case but instead of 2% per 10 days 4%?

Both are based on NVC code where as the staking difficulty rises the % of stake reward goes down. So it can fluctuate up and down. 200% is base and 1% is min.

Also this is 15 days for min weight.
920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.0 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: June 24, 2014, 12:51:44 PM
Can maybe someone change the header of this discussion? It says 2.0 update in stead of 2.1.
Also the link to the wallet on page 1 is to the 2.0 version instead of 2.1.

It may solve some potential trouble someone new to CAPS could encounter

The link in the oOP says 2.0, but the zip actually contains 2.1. If Flounder wants to update it, the best link to put is not the zip but my release page.

https://github.com/Tranz5/bottlecaps/releases

This goes for anyone linking the wallets. This will always have the most updated wallets.

Did that, but the latest release listed there is still 2.0?

It is 2.1, I put both there.  I'll remove 2.0 now so there is less confusion.

Edit: I created a new release for 2.1. That should keep it more organized.
