That's right, there is not much difference. Coins are different, therefore you can not call them competitors, except that competing with each other in the top list, no more. Of course, better 3rd place and a huge increase. And i have thought that you didn't even understand about that. Ripple focused to build the blockchain for economic system which has focused to attract the bankers. Ethereum is much different than it that build a manufacture to be used by cryptocommunity. I believed that POS means Proof-of-stake. currently ethereum is working towards a hard-fork this january and one of the major reason is to enable or run POS. currently, we noticed that ethereum is back on second spot in the market.

Hardfork has already announced by core ethereum developers and it will start on 17 january. But remember this is an early hardfork to make ethereum will migrate to the POS system. Ever since XRP took over the 2nd position, i knew it was not going to last. The updates that were being announced were just taking profits.
