941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: March 02, 2016, 10:46:52 PM
I've been thinking about this some more.  The post above discusses my desire to say something specific in the whitepaper on the maximum ISP latency acceptable for running a Lisk mainchain node.  (I am worried we are going to have a lot of disappointed Active Delegates when they realize they can't run a Lisk mainchain node from home on their spare PC and they actually have to rent a server at Vultr for $5 per month).  I also ask for confirmation that sidechains can run at slower block times that the mainchain, and if that alone would allow the use of slower, high-latency ISPs.

These are important and hard questions that nobody really knows the answers for yet.  One of my first goals when Lisk goes live with 0.5.5  is to set up some cheap sidechain nodes and run some timing experiments to get some answers.  I want to give my future sports dapp customers great service!

We will have to do this as a community. I will try it from the office and from home. Then take the latencies to different IPs and post them. If we all do this, we should find a minimum.

First off, are we going to start Lisk on version 0.5.5 software and not 0.5.4?

Version 0.5.5.

And once we start saying a Lisk blocktime of greater than 10 seconds is OK - why not set the official Lisk blocktime as necessary to maximize high-latency home ISP participation by Active Delegates?  Maybe that's a blocktime of 15 seconds, maybe that's 30 seconds, maybe that's a full minute of 60 seconds.  Logically, a 60 second blocktime should be able to handle 6 times higher latency delays than a 10 second blocktime, right?

No, if we are talking about latencies we are talking about milli seconds here. It doesn't make a difference if we have 10 second blocks or 60 second blocks.

Currently our blockchain database is 807MB big, after 2,234,777 blocks. That means every block is on average (approximately!) 0.000361MB or 361bytes big. About 3,000,000 blocks are 1 year. That means our blockchain will probably grow to about 1,5GB-2GB in the first year, due to more volume at Lisk. This is absolutely OK. Even 3GB would be OK.

We just bring the blockchain bloat problem at Ethereum, because imagine there are 10,000 dapps. That wouldn't be possible in my opinion right now. However, at Lisk this wouldn't change a thing, because of the sidechains. Wink

Additionally, changing the 10 second block time is not 1 change of code. It would require heavy testing. So in conclusion, we won't change the 10 second block time which is only beneficial for users and devs. Smiley

Hey@all,

i want to change some btc to Lisk.

Where can i get a client for windows? That link https://downloads.lisk.io/lisk/main/lisk-0.1.1-Darwin-x86_64.zip on the page don't works.

Can someone help?

We haven't released the client yet. We will release the full client right at launch or very soon after that.

@Max
You can please ask the exchange again?

Otherwise I will wait a week...

Perhaps we should make a little "publicity" for bter.

I will write another support ticket in a few minutes! Smiley

...I haven't gotten all of my keys/passphrases yet.

I was a little surprised to see a public key along with a passcode and Lisk account number from my XCR deposit.  Is this public key the same as the one in discussions going like "please send me 1 XCR so I can get a public key" ?  Will we need to do a "first transaction" in our new Lisk accounts in a few weeks to generate a new public key, or is the one assigned at the ICO site a good public key forever?

In asymmetric cryptography (public-key cryptography) a pair of keys is used (public and private). Both keys are generated simultaneously.
With the "first transaction" you mentioned, the public key is not generated, but firstly stored in the blockchain.

Exactly!

(Note: looks like whitepaper needs to be updated, "0.1 LISK of amount sent for a spend transaction" should be "0.1% LISK of amount sent for a spend transaction".

We changed it to a constant 0.1 LISK. There was always the problem to calculate the fee, now it's very easy. Smiley

Great job! So if lisk will cost 10 usd in the future, transaction fee will be 1 usd. You guys rock! "Now it's very easy", lawl
I do agree with this. it should be percentage not constant. Constant will disrupt free economy as lisk goes up.

Hah! Absolutely not. If the price of 1 LISK grows that high, we would obviously release an update which reduces the fees back to older levels.

Imagine a percentage fee of 0.1% as it was before. The more money you want to transfer, the more you have to pay for the transaction. Let's say you want to transact 10,000 LISK at the price of 10 USD as "Dwr" forcast. Then you would have to pay 100 USD transaction fee. However, with our (current!) constant fee you would have to pay 10 USD, most probably at this level we would have reduced it to 0.001 LISK, i.e. 1ct.

Fourth week bounty summary

I just wrote down all Facebook likers (484 stakes), Twitter followers (911 stakes), Newsletter subscribers (1675 stakes), Signature participants (281 stakes) and translators (53 stakes).

Week #1 Values
Week #2 Values
Week #3 Values

IMPORTANT! This is the last week (2nd March - 9th March) to receive a bounty stake!

The number of participants grew extremely big, we didn't anticipated that. Therefore this will be the last week of the bounty campaign. After this week I won't count new stakes anymore! I will distribute the bounties amongst all those who participated after Lisk has launched.

Here you can view the signature stakes for all weeks. The other lists won't be released, because there exists a privacy conflict. I saw that recently some users only wrote into this thread that they participated in the signature campaign. You need to send me a PM! If you are not on this list, please send me a PM until the 4th March! After the 4th I will not add you to the 4th week list!

Thank you very much.

Once the mainnet is live or maybe now (?) Lisk should be advertised directly where the JavaScript devs are. I don't know if there are really big forums or whatever, but that should be done.

I agree. But after recent discussions with developers, we need to improve our docs first. 2-3 weeks after launch I think we have improved them quite a lot already, so we can start to promote within the JS community.

We will definitely directly target those groups. Also by going to Node.JS and JavaScript conferences. Wink

When the network starts in late march will we have a wallet software to download like bitcoin core or will that be something different? Web login or something. If you guys know what I want to ask.

There will be downloadable full and light clients in addition to the Web Wallet (https://login.lisk.io/)

See:
https://lisk.io/download

We will start with the full client and probably in the end of April release the lite client. Smiley This gives us enough time to prepare everything.

We are at page 102 already. Smiley

Same thing every year, people invest in these sales and don't even understand the terms!!! Jesus, read people! This question gets answered every 4 pages now.

Ha!  That's my cue to post the spreadsheet links again...now with new USD pricing!

"In Lisk, the value of your contribution invested in the ICO is held constant.  Your number of Lisk to be allocated in the genesis block goes down as more donors show up, and the new money they bring in causes the value of each individual Lisk to go up and compensate.  You do not lose or gain any money as a result of your participation in the ICO."

948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: March 02, 2016, 02:17:56 PM
All ico buyers will get their coins once Lisk will be launched?

Or people will get coins at some time, not all at once?

It's important, because if all people will get coins at the same time, they can easily flood the market and drive price below ico...

Hello,

All buyers will get their LISK at once. They will be made available with the genesis block.

Interested in these same moments.
I correctly understand that mining is planned for the end of March ? What rewards will be for the unit ?

There is no mining at Lisk. Only forging. The beginning rewards will be 5 LISK per block.

Since i did not get any answer to my last question i ask again. What will lisk coin be used for?
quote from MalReynolds "Sidechain dapps permanently free vs. mainchain perpetual "gas" payments required"
So where will the value of a lisk coin come from if it is not used as some kind of fuel like ether in ethereum?
Can someone can clarify this or is this just a stupid pump thread?

I'm very sorry HidsightHero that I didn't see your question.

Here you can see all fees which occur on the network. Long-term I see the need of  recurring LISK payments. We will need to think about this, but maybe we will make the username and dapp registration payments recurring in the future. For example every 30 days the dapp dev needs to pay a fee so that the dapp stays in our dapp store. If he doesn't pay it, the dapp would still be available, but not visible in our dapp store.

That's one option to make the LISK tokens more needed. However, I suspect that 90% of the dapps will use LISK for internal functionalities.

Hello!

Can somebody tell me- what is the LUSK???
Why it takes so big money on ICO?
Is it really better then ETH or IOTA?
I know that IOTA has newest tehnology in the world, As well as ETH!
But what is new in the LUSK???

Will alternative cryptos -ie btc,ltc be used for purchase of dapps alongside Lisk. Or will Lisk be the sole dapp purchase currency.

LISK is the crypto-currency which empowers the Lisk network, a decentralized application and custom blockchain platform. We will make big efforts for the IoT, IOTA has another use-case. E.g. send money on micro-processors.

A dapp doesn't need to be purchased by users, because this can be cheated by the dapp devs and users. But it needs to be registered on the blockchain, this is only possible with the LISK token (500 LISK).
949  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: March 02, 2016, 10:20:35 AM

Pardon me, but where are you getting that the ICO at the moment is about 2,000 BTC's when I just went to ico.lisk.io and it says:

Under "Bitcoin Exchanges" : 1422.53236392 BTC

I think that what says under "Bitcoin Exchanges" represents the total of everything, including the tallying up of all the altcoins+shapeshift+XCR's that were exchanged for Lisks.  Correct me if I am wrong.

XCR and ShapeShift are not included in the BTC amount. Smiley

Has anyone personally met Max Kordek or Olivier Beddows?

What proof do we have that the German lawyer Axel Hellinger is really involved in this project? Did he make any official statement?

Individual members already contacted A. Hellinger. Others wanted to meet with me, but didn't have the chance. If you want to meet up near Aachen, we can do that. Smiley

I'm in the Bitcoin sphere for a long time already. Many have already met me. But that's normal, because I'm a human. What does it change? The only thing which is important, is that I'm here with my real name and face. Wink

Thanks for the reply...

I have been burned by a couple of previous ICOs where lead devs vanished with everyone's funds.

Lisk.io platform & ICO are amazing & I have a better feeling about this ICO, but I just want to set my mind at ease before I send my funds to this ICO.

Do Lisk Devs and Lawyer have any other references beside what's on LinkedIn ?

Do you have a Facebook account ?

Hey,

I can completely understand that. Smiley

Yes, I have a facebook account. But there is actually less information than on LinkedIn. If you want I can send the link to you via PM. Wink

Right now you already know our real names, photos, websites and social media accounts. I think the next step is meeting up. So if you are living near Aachen, feel yourself invited. Wink

I followed you since the PAST (before LISK existed...) do I get magical anti-LISKS??? Reverse-Lisks?

Where i can find list for twitter bounty or everyone will win get paid who will follow there?

Everyone who follows us on Twitter will receive 1 stake every week. At the end we will distribute the 200,000 LISK to all stakes, i.e. to all followers. The longer you followed, the more you will receive.

You followed me, but not Lisk. Therefore, no. Smiley

Btw. if you want anti-LISK you will have to send LISK to me later on, because you probably end up with more anti-LISK than regular LISK.  Cheesy

Did the devs said how are they going to spend the raised funds?

They will probably not be heard from anymore the day the ICO ends. Myself i would move to a mansion in asia or south america where my money could last for a lifetime in luxury! And i would stay offline for some years while partying and having fun with girls, so i didnt have to take any heat from angry "donators" Grin

Please don't spread lies and FUD.

I answered the question above, Rando. Smiley

I've done talks to several groups of innovators and scientists from Science Universities and schools here in the Philippines regarding doing a talk about Lisk.

I'm in the process of getting an approval for it Smiley

Starting Development, starting dapps, starting them young!

Sounds great!  Shocked

Hey, I noticed Swedish and Finnish weren't yet added to the OP. Would this still need translations?Smiley I can take care of that if you give me a couple of days. Smiley

Do they have their own BTT sub forum?

They have the scandinavian forum here so maybe swedish would be enough there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=45.0

But on forum.bitcoin.com we have both Finnish and swedish. Let me know if you want me to work on any of them. Smiley

Best to translate it to Swedish only. Smiley

the video is interesting too, a fiverr.com JOB most likely and they usually costs about 100Bucks. not bad for an ICO that has raised close to 2,000 BTC.
see here: http://tinyurl.com/zrcz92n

What is interesting again is that I'm totes SOLD but do not yet have some real world examples as to how this could be used in the real world to make blockchain tech better??

ideas / thoughts / inspirations anyone?

The video was done by http://hypercubestudios.net, we don't have access to the funds yet. So we can't produce a $x000 video at this moment.

why web login is out ?

So you can test our client already. Smiley

Did the devs said how are they going to spend the raised funds?

This was the only thing I said until now about how we going to spend the funds.

We will spend all the money on Lisk. This includes marketing, conference/meetup visits, salaries, office space, hardware we might need, infrastructure, business establishment (taxes) and much more.
957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: February 29, 2016, 08:42:51 PM

Yes! We only listed the most popular languages, but we will accept any language. Smiley

I told the other translators the following:

- The bounty will be paid in LISK and will be paid once our mainnet goes live (in about 7-8 weeks).
- The bounty will be a minimum equivalent of $25, but will probably be more. I can't give any exact numbers here right now, because it's still open how much we can collect in the ICO.
- From time to time we will contact you and ask you if you want to update your translation. For every turn you will receive a further "bounty stake".

Next week we will issue a blog post about different available bounties and how it's going to work. Smiley

Is there already a timetable for a beta version of the full Lisk client (source or linux) working on testnet?

You can already install the Lisk client from source and deploy your own local testnet.

I will try it. Are there instructions to do that?

Yes.

Hello,

yesterday I invested about 0.6 BTC into the LISK ICO to get the 15% Bonus. (Where can I see that Bonus?
I also want to partcipate at the LISK Signature Campain and want to use an LISK Node on Raspberry Pi.

I really use the search fuction, but, can you tell me please, what Signature I need to place for participate?
I need to send after setting the signature a PM to Lisk-HQ?
Is it possible to use that Signature as Newbie here?

If I understand right, running a LISK Node is only possible AFTER ICO launch?
Sorry for my english. I came out of Polonia.

Thank you in advance

You can't see the bonus anywhere. If you were within the first week timeframe you will receive these 15% bonus at the end.

Your account is "Brand new". So you can't have the extravagant signatures like others. Simply put the same signature as mine into your signature. Smiley

Then write me a PM.

The last few weeks have been very informative on how DPoS works under stress....I set up the rocket delegates to replace the non-performing delegates - Cryptikit and Olivier's help made this much, much easier, 48 new delegates in all....At Max's suggestion, Boris added the ability for a delegate to see which accounts voted for him to the Crypti API. This, along with the new Lisk forging rewards, opens up the possibility for delegates to do profit sharing with those who vote for him. What I have in mind is how I originally thought DPoS would operate with Bitshares and should have run with Crypti. I would like to offer to split the delegate earnings with the people who vote for my delegates based on how much they have in the Lisk accounts they vote from on a running basis and how much they dilute their votes by voting for other delegates. So this would be truly a PoS type system where stake holders receive a return on their holdings with a portion going to the delegates they choose to represent them. This will also incentivize people to hold Lisk since it can offer them a return.

Mike, you've done us all a favor, more so than most people realize...so thanks!

Did you have any gotchas with the latest version of Crypti Docker?  My node was forging great but it wouldn't display the client at Port 8040.  So I took it offline to reload it and never got it back up.  Every time I loaded my local IP address in the whitelist area of the config.json file, but when I flipped the forging switch in the Port 8040 client it would say I was coming from a bad IP.  I finally gave up when I saw your massive effort come online.   I guess I'm done forging Crypti.

I did not realize we could do forging co-ops like you suggest.  As you say, this will become very popular and attract votes.  But then...how does the forger earn his server fees back if he has to give them out to those who voted for him?

DPoS is a great system philosophically and even theoretically.  But it never achieved true, actual operation at Crypti.  Lisk is going to have its own challenges with DPos when the time comes, that will be fascinating to watch.

Hey, folks, I'm MalReynolds.  When the time comes, I would appreciate your vote to become a DPoS Active Delegate of Lisk.

The Delegate Handbook will provide exact guides how to become a forger. Actually this is extremely easy, one just need to know how to do it. Smiley

We at Lisk are very happy for Mikes contributions so far to the Crypti delegates, I hope everyone sees his important contributions to the Crypti network.

Mal check out the last point of Forging Rewards explanation on our blog.

Quote
Is it possible to participate in forging pools?

Yes. We are tinkering around with this idea at the moment, therefore we are positive that this will be successfully integrated as a dapp in the near future. The idea being that the pool would automatically distribute its earnings amongst all Lisk users which voted for the pool’s delegate.

With this the Lisk network could become a mix between stand-alone VPS and forging pools. In my opinion the stand-alone VPS' could give fundings to dapp developers. While the pools are giving small Lisk amounts to every voter every month (so that the fees are not eating up the rewards).

The sidechains could either become secured by high-performance VPS or small ARM devices. Depending on the performance which is needed.
