961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I have 93 computers (i7 4gb RAM, no GPU) to start mining... Please help... on: December 17, 2013, 01:03:25 AM
I think hes lying and wants to mine with a botnet  Grin Grin Cheesy  Cool

I think if he'd have a botnet, that would give out impression that he is well versed in this 'scene' and would not ask such simple questions.
962  Other / Off-topic / Re: BRISH MAN BUYS AN XBOX ONE PHOTO FOR £458 on: December 17, 2013, 12:58:49 AM

are you sure it's stupidity? you could just make this shit up and sell your story to some media outlet. so many ways a playa can play the game.

Something tells me this guy isn't a master of chicanery.

But then again:

Quote
Mr Clatworthy previously made headlines in 2007 when, aged 12, he used his judo skills to catch a drink-driver who had crashed into three cars in Ilkeston Road, Radford
.

Maybe he's a master at courting the press for his own gain.

Another conspiracy? Great! We surely did not have enough of those on btctalk!
But I tend to agree. I had tons of quasi-important stuff to share with the media in my life, but they ignored me.
But stories like that go viral.
Do you simply call some newspaper and say "I'm a dumb fuck, exploit my life story" and they say "okay, we sure have nothing else to do" ?

EDIT: in that pic he reminds me of Jean Reno from Leon/Professional

963  Other / MultiBit / Re: Is there a way to "Merge" two wallets from within Multibit? on: December 17, 2013, 12:54:25 AM
There are options of sending without transaction fee, but I'm not the best expert on that.

Other than that I would certainly say no.
964  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone doing cryptocoins should be using Linux as OS on: December 17, 2013, 12:51:29 AM
Linux alone will not save you. You must know how to set it up properly + how to behave on internet

Obviously but it's better if most of the hackers don't target your os  Roll Eyes

But if the linux becomes ultimate mainstream for all things bitcoin then it will be target #1

Also with all those distros floating around - temptation is high to inject some malware into some smaller distro. Or some essential piece of software on github. No risk of that in a windows/mac.

Also I've recently tried latest xubuntu for one of my miners, and was surprised that it needs 5+ gb space, and could not do networking out of the box. Linux driver support sucks. There's no one to work on the kernel for free.

With ubuntu, ALL of the drivers (except for some windows only stuff) work!

Actually no. At work we have one old pc, with onboard Via gpu, which is not supported by linux Xwindow (or what do you call it) so only terminal available for you there.
Another machine - it would get stuck on updates (although in that case it was mint, not xubuntu)

And two days ago - one of my, quite contemporary, mobos with your average realtek ethernet controller would fail to connect straight away after install.
965  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: disable 'self-moderation' on: December 17, 2013, 12:43:50 AM
Leave the self-moderation but don't delete the deleted posts completely (make them like the ones from ignored people)

That's actually a great idea. Only defendable use of self-moderation would be to visually stop useless spam. And your idea gets job done. Hide the post with option of un-hide.

Other implementation of moderation could be downvoting, but I doubt this would work in this environment, and even more doubt that someone will be bothered enough to implement that.
966  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think any of the other "alt" currencies will overtake bitcoin? on: December 17, 2013, 12:38:15 AM
I would prefer litecoin's faster confirmation times. Of course there are even faster coins too.

But to crush bitcoin - it should have some discerning quality - like eversmall blockchain size or something like that.

Also imagine if multiple world economies would say bitcoin is a no-no, and , say, dogecoin gets a pass, with no taxes attached... It would skyrocket in a day and stay there.

Now I haven't always been the biggest Cryptsy fan, the bugs and glitches at times were enough to make my blood boil.  When you stop and think about it though, anyone heavily involved in the alt-scene should be on their knees thanking Big Vern.  The alt-scene simply would not be what it is today without Cryptsy (for better or for worse).

The only people who have room to complain about "Cryptsy costing them money" are newbies who just jumped into the scene with this recent rise.  If you are a GPU miner and/or got into the alt-scene last spring, Cryptsy almost certainly made you WAY more coin than it ever cost you.

I owe Cryptsy for allowing me to vastly improve my financial situation and life over the past 6 months with just 7 7950s.  I am forever grateful for Cryptsy.

So thanks for ruining it for the rest of us OP just because you are pissy about 63 BTC that'll eventually go right back up in value again anyway.

Don't worry. It's most likely a desperate FUD thread, nothing more. Although I kinda root for OP here Smiley He cannot ruin it so simply by himself. Also how do you capital gains from altcoins? It's ridiculous.

970  Other / Meta / Re: No way to remove threads from "Show new replies to your posts"? on: December 17, 2013, 12:23:43 AM
My question: Is there no way to remove threads from "Show new replies to your posts"?

I want to unwatch some threads I posted in before. (I don't want these threads in the liste "Show new replies to your posts" anymore.)

Thank you.

It's quite annoying, but no - there isn't. I tried to embrace watchlist over this, but I cannot seem to skip that link whatever I do. If there's some thread especially bothering you, you can ignore OP in that thread and visually decrease it's presence in the list. If you are ok with ignoring said OP of course. I do that for old dead giveaway or scammer threads.
971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I die before mining stops? on: December 17, 2013, 12:20:22 AM
Hey,
Just to clarify, if all blocks are found, does that mean no profit for mining? You can't possible make more bitcoins than the limit, so I am guessing by then all mining does is confirm things. Also, will the prices of BTC shoot up, because there can't be more bitcoins, so then it would infinitly create more demand?

Theoretically in the future it would be enough to simply live off transaction fees. Also those fees can be increased by widely accepted patch. With future MH per W ratios It should be doable.
972  Other / Off-topic / Re: My next door neighbour continually smokes weed every 2-3 hours in his garden... on: December 16, 2013, 09:46:59 PM
You can always ask him, you'd be surprised how well it can work out.

Then there's your landlord to go to.

Then police.

My friend was bothered by cigarette smoke coming from other flat, she complained to landlord - and no more cigarette smoke for her.

Imagine if you have asthma or something, why should you endure that shit?
973  Other / Off-topic / Re: Christmas List on: December 16, 2013, 09:42:41 PM
One thing, to buy a random airplane ticket.
That one I like.

ticket to Somalia or Yemen?
974  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Taxing bitcoins, good news or bad news? on: December 16, 2013, 09:40:47 PM
Your average Norwegian citizen is earning too much money to be thinking about cryptocurrencies.

Cannot imagine my brother who lives there being bothered by mining, even if given free 10gpu rig.

And as investment - better to go straight for online poker.
975  Other / Off-topic / Re: Christmas List on: December 16, 2013, 08:46:45 PM
If I cannot have money, then it would be something that can make me some money.

20 gpu mining rig?

Other than that - quality piano.
976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your first reaction to the concept of Bitcoin? on: December 16, 2013, 08:43:28 PM
When I could make money on the internet and doesn't require a bank account or 3rd party service.

When you need to buy some food, how are you going to do that without a bank account or 3rd party service (assuming localbitcoins as one)?
977  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BEWARE: Cryptsy is a Scam and will eventually shut down and hold balances on: December 16, 2013, 08:40:30 PM
It's not a scam per se, but works quite badly.

If there would be a worthy competitor, people would change horses in no time. But currently there is not.
978  Other / Off-topic / Re: Almost got laid last night, messed up BAD, please help... on: December 16, 2013, 08:38:12 PM
Hardest part to believe in this fiction would be about not having sex in 5 years.

Otherwise if you're that rusty, order a hooker to refresh your knowledge (if you cannot take the risk of embarrassing yourself)
979  Other / Off-topic / Re: College Majors of Posters. on: December 16, 2013, 08:32:23 PM
Never believed in educational system. Old geezers deciding who gets scholarship. Unfair grading system. Racial bias. Corruption.

I find that system broken. Of course, you are a much better person by going through those loops, but I could not force myself to do that.
980  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fuck! I may have cancer on: December 16, 2013, 08:23:26 PM
look into an extremely carb-restrictive diet (keto) there is some evidence that cancer cells need carbs to thrive. Also, I would definitely go for some of the concentrated cannabis oils, they are worth trying.

Exactly, I just recalled that I read somewhere that cancer cells live on WHITE REFINED SUGAR.
If you remove it from your diet and switch to something like stevia you will starve the cancer cells to death.
Additionally doing the cleanses from my previous post.

If it would be that way, then cancer would be cured by now.

Although I'm a keto fan, and lost 2x10kg when I tried it for myself. Best diet there is.
