961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are dead ? FinCEN investigation! on: May 11, 2015, 12:28:08 PM
Nothing will happen. Even if Cryptsy and Bittrex goes down (what is quite unlikely) there are still many option outside FinCEN's reach. There is whole wide and financially relative free world outside of the US Smiley.
But bittrex and cryptsy are two major exchanges right now, so what will happen if they goes down? alternative exchanges? there will not major and high volume exchanges after trex or cryptsy.

In the long run, an intervention of FinCen would be good for crypto. It would force the ecosystem to create and use p2p exchanges, anonymity and other good features.
962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: humble opinion on: May 11, 2015, 12:06:44 PM
there is much animosity and little cooperation.

there is even more replication of effort and less innovation.

The SDC / DASH / MONERO  war has not fed one mouth yet is still ongoing. No-one will ever defect and all you've done is scare off new comers.

on a side note...what happened to Navajo? Noone talks about it, it's like it was quickly hidden away from view after the anon update.

I agree, this "wars" are absolutely disgusting.

I do participate sometimes in Dash fudding-threads (there are dozens in this section), but I think I participate as a self-defense Dash supporter.

We should concentrate in developing and promoting our coins, not in bashing the competence.
963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: May 11, 2015, 11:40:16 AM

You, a troll? Absolutely not. Thanks for the comparison!

Downtrend is a fact in most currencies. Dash is no exception.

The good news is that devs and all the team are working hard to reverse it:

State of the Union

There are many things happening at the same time, I guess Dash is finally growing in a way were different groups of people are working on independent projects that together will help realize our vision. These are just a few examples of things Dash is working on:

1. Implementing project management processes based on Scrum for communication, development, quality control, etc.
2. New partnerships with recognized companies in the crypto sphere.
3. Decentralized governance mechanism and first provable blockchain based voting system.First to encourage participation by stake holders in development and promotion projects for Dash.  But this mechanism has a lot of potential to help establish structures for management of any decentralized organization.
4. Animated introductory video about Dash to be distributed to publications outside of the crypto forums.
5. Preparing a potential online media campaign to be presented to the community assembly once the governance project is in place.
6. Mobile wallets with InstantX and Darksend support in both Android and iOs
7. Bitcore multisig library support, important for many projects and partnerships that are on the works.
8. Video guides to help people do many things, setting up wallets, encrypting, keeping your coins safe, etc. And soon setting up masternodes and other more advanced things. All to be found on Dash youtube channel.
9. Updating and building the new official wiki with Jira and Confluence.
10. Development of v12 with many improvements in efficiency and removing the reference node.
11. New official Chinese mandarin www.dashpay.io site to be launching soon after the russian and spanish versions were a success.

This is not an official list, just the things that come to my mind right now, that we are working on. There are more things to come this year but this is more or less the state of the union right now. Although like I said I may be missing some things as there are many smaller groups working on things now and is getting harder to keep up with everything that is happening at the same time. Anyway I think that my list covers a good percentage of what is going on.

Hola besterbrais,

You don't get it, do you?   Embarrassed

The coin was a crap, buggy one at launch. Now, after more than a year of hard work is valuable.

Wanna do a relauch? Do it, is open source!! Just clone it, call it "obitcoin" and that's it! You have your own coin. With Masternodes, InstantX and all the stuff.

What I see every day is greed and desperate people from other coins, trying to destroy what they think is better.

Just a little advice from an old man:

Just live and let live others. And do something positive with your time.  Wink

meh, I don't like the centralising Masternodes either ;-)

But hey, nice of you to admit the launch was buggy and thus lead to a de facto instamine... I don't care what the intention was (bad or good), the result was an instamine, nice of you to admit that.

best regards

I am not aware of anybody within the Darkcoin/Dash community (including Evan) who has ever denied the instamine happened.  There is even a section in the Dash wiki about it.

Noone is denying the bugs at the launch:

https://dashtalk.org/threads/the-birth-of-darkcoin.162

Launch

It was January 18, 2014 and I had everything ready or so I thought. I announced the launch of Darkcoin (XCoin at the time) on BitcoinTalk. We launched later and immediately got stuck on block 42, I was new to the Bitcoin codebase and wasn’t sure what I missed so I announced we’d relaunch later.

When we relaunched we had a rush of miners join causing a huge spike of coin production without it being able to adjust the difficulty quick enough, we just ended up spilling out coins. Retargeting happened every 576 blocks and could only increase the difficulty by four times, so it took about six retargets to get to a difficulty that was near 2.5 minutes per block.

Later on, after the difficulty evened out we realized that there was a serious problem with the block reward calculation. You can see people discussing the problems here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.120

I soon fixed this issue at block 4500, but none of us realized the amount of coins that had been issued at the time. At that point we didn’t even have a block explorer yet.

At the beginning, Xcoin was nothing than other shitcoin. And for several weeks was distributed because price was really low, as u can see here:

After that, the developer began to work seriously on it, then Dash become what is now.

Noone is hiding the truth. I know the truth because I was there. Wanna cry all Bitcointalk about it? Be my guest.

Meanwhile, we are working:

https://dashtalk.org/forums/official-announcements.54

You don't like it? Is fine, I don't like most of the alts out there.

Best regards,

We made our distribution long ago. Stop with this "instamine" crap. The actual value of the coin is because the dedicated effort of Evan & team. This is no hard to understand.

You missed it. Get over it.

I get different results:

YEA: 606
NAY: 5
ABSTAIN: 1872

Interesting. How are you checking results.

dashd masternode list votes | grep -c YEA
dashd masternode list votes | grep -c NAY
dashd masternode list votes | grep -c ABSTAIN

EDIT: My daemon wasn't updated. Your results were correct.

Let me get this straight.

51% Yea is required to pass.

However, 1872 Abstain? That means no pass.

Or, are we saying 1872 have yet to vote because vote starts with default set to abstain?

Or, are we saying 51% yea votes vs. nay votes, ignoring abstainers?

Sorry, only got one brain cell, and its thinking about the one thing it likes to think about most.

"Voting will begin immediately and be open for 2 weeks. We will consider the vote successful if at any time we have 51% of the masternodes support."
https://dashtalk.org/threads/vote-self-sustainable-decentralized-governance-by-blockchain.4825

So it means ABSTAIN counts as NAY.

Relax, Evan words are not carved in stone. We are in the firsts steps of a huge change in crypto.
we need to experiment, learn and change if necessary.
My opinion is that the ABSTAIN don't count. Not for yes or for no.

btw. welcome  Wink

Abstain shouldn't count for yay or nay but they shouldn't be ignored from the count either.  The successful vote should require 51% of total nodes voting yay.

If you only look for 51% support from nodes that actually vote, what happens if only a total of 500 nodes vote and 51% of those 500 are yay?  Heck, what if only 10 nodes voted on something and 6 of those 10 voted yes?

Only looking for 51% of the total votes that are either yay or nay isn't a fair system.  Projects should be important enough to require an overall majority approval.  If you cannot gain an overall majority, the project is not worth funding.

Very correct. IF the community is PRO the change they must MANIFEST that clearly. There must be 51% YEA votes: ABSTAIN means no clear manifestation of YEA, ergo it must count as NAY.

These rules (no matter what are the rules) should be agreed previously to all the votes, and the community must have some STANDARD rules, in order to avoid confusion/misunderstandings.

That's our first time, as it is normal that we will eventually err and learn... it's drinking and learning... Wink

I don't agree.

I suggest for a votation to be valid should vote the 51% of the masternodes ("yes" or "no"). Nothing more.
Then the majority of "yes" and "no" decide.
