Bitcoin is outside of law, that's what makes it piracy currency... Not sure why people are even trying to argue this fact.
As far as my post goes, I was just trying to see if there were any intelligent people out there who would consider a thought experiment where bitcoin is involved in copyright infringement on multinational scale. Apparently not...

UPDATE: Upon confirming with Shawn the manager at Uncle Jacks at the registered address in the Whois for CoinExchanger.com, there is no one by the name of Leo Camilo (big surprise). I'll be working with Shawn (local manager) and Anthony (corporate manager) to make absolutely sure no one receives mail at that address who shouldn't be and will have them interview their employees closely as this is now a federal crime and will be reported directly to FinCEN and the FBI.
I hate to see you use the law that can be used against us, bitcoiners. |

What I been doing for the last few days is just working on the terrain system. It's a hell lot more work than I thought.
I also built a primitive help page. It's not much but it's better than nothing. In addition, I worked on scenario reloading to help me test better. The game is now 3.5 Kloc!

First, people need to decide if it's worth suing the company for 200K combined total. Linode might have a very good lawyer and it will tie up the case for many month, if not years.
Second, I don't think linode is in the business of storing and protecting valuables. You can't get much from a 50 dollars a month web host.

Come on, stop spreading FUD. There is NO WAY IN HELL that the guy can cash out so quickly. Think of daily withdrawal limits, ID verification, coin tracing, and so forth.
My guess? Disheartened noobs cashing out because of loss of faith in the system. All the more coins for me!

Nothing is "uncrackable" given the amount of time.
If you don't remember your password, it's as good as lost(Unless you found a way to crack them in a reasonable amount of time). There's a tradeoff between convenience and security. |

The limit for withdrawal is 10K USD for verified account, and he would need to pass fake information to MtGox's money laundering office. So the thief would need to create multiple accounts, multiple identity or compromise several mtgox accounts. IANASE, but keep in mind that AML increase barrier of entry, reducing competition and privacy of users. Keeping record of user identity is also a security liability if identity thieves get their hand on it. |

In this case, encryption would have protected the wallet because the attacker was only able to get root access after a reboot.

Obviously the software running against the hot wallet has to have access to it. This means that if someone roots the server, they'll be able to have the same access to the hot wallet. Encryption would not have entered into it.
Zhou, good on you for covering this! I'm having a hard enough time covering the BTCinch theft; I can only imagine how pissed you are at linode.
Zhou could have reduced his loss significantly by reducing the amount of bitcoin that were in the hot wallet. It could be 10,000 bitcoin, for example. |

Looks like Linode is just a hosting company. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LinodeI heard from Slush's thread that the Super Admin at Linode can login to any of the virtual server/websites, including Slush's mining pool and Bitcoinica. I think MtGox should take note... possibly migrate to a non-US server?? I bet there's a team of people, be it insider or outsider, poppin' toasting champagne right now, as this is a concerted effort to bring down bitcoins. This doesn't hurt bitcoin. It makes bitcoin stronger. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, more aware of the danger. |

Maybe you should consider reducing your hot wallet? A little inconvenience is a lot better than losing that much money.

Two year customer last month, never had problems but I've been around the Bitcoin community long enough to be suspicious of people who "lose" bitcoins or have them "stolen" Ok, you're going to be suspicious of Gavin, the bitcoinica guy, and Slush? |

The Linode's user agreement says, "no".
That doesn't mean they Linode can't be sued and forced to reimburse the losses. It would need to be worth the lawyer fee to sue. |

Make the game easier to understand. I don't even get it at first glance.
That was in the work in the last couple of days, as I been listening to feedback for the past two months! However, the new stuff aren't yet deployed. 1) I added a help page. You can access it by pressing "h" while the menu is open in game mode. This explains what's going on in term of interface. 2) I added tooltip which allow you to identify what you're seeing by hovering over any tiles. You will be able to identify units soon too! I could construct a tutorial on how to play, but given a lack of gameplay features, I think it is too immature at this time. You wouldn't be able to do much anyway. Plus, I don't have a framework for tutoring just yet. They need a trigger and goal detection system first. Even more, a tutorial probably can't be perfected on the first try. It will probably be confusing and people will give up in frustration. That's why feedback is so important! If everybody is silent, nobody tells him why it is wrong. Whether or not you donate, speaks up! I like to know. |

Wow, I was actually just looking into moving some of my hosting and linode was where I had chosen. I guess I will have to rethink that. I'll probably go with EC2 since it seems Amazon takes security quite seriously, but EC2 is noticably more expensive.
I heard a polish exchange lost their money there because they didn't backup the wallet somewhere else. |
