It is an on-going thread. I created today to keep it in my to-do list. ABSTRACTGenerally, over the period from 01/7/2020 to 21/9/2020, in medians (interquartile range) the forum has (daily) - 391 (349 - 424) new members
- 139 (110 - 170) new topics
- 6401 ( 6100 - 6615) new posts
- They are stable in last 2 months and a half
Part 2 (for woke-ups, password reset via email) In medians (interquartile range) - Woke-ups: 211 (190 - 240) cases per day
- Password reset via email: 47 (42 - 54) cases per day
- Observed period: 01/1/2020 - 23/9/2020
Data sources For now it is for some variables (daily): - New registered accounts
- New posts
- New topics
- Woke-ups
- Password reset via email
- Banned accounts (weekly) will add it soon
However, I am going to combine some of my others past data sets and data of the others to build up a big thread on Forum activity obsevations. As I promised weeks ago, today I play with data and give you my new analysis on Top-200 of Merit Earners and Merit Senders in the last 3 years (2018, 2019, and incomplete 2020). Notes:- If you need comparative box plots for each 5 or each 10 users, ask me. I have list of top 200 merit earners and senders in hands. Just ask me if you need.
- I recommend to have box plots for each set of 5 users (better visual)
- I gonna update this thread when this year is completed
- See weekly updates for top-100 merit earners there
ABSTRACTLook at medians (the line inside boxes). Receivers- The dominant group (1-25) has speedy merit-earning rate in first 2 years (2018 - 2019). Their pace in 2019 is almost double in 2018. The pace is slow down a bit since 2020 but they still are merit earning beasts. You know it is challenging to improve medians.
- The second group (26-50) has nearly stable merit-earning rate, but it has been on upwards.
- The 3rd group (51-75) has impressive increasing rate in 2019 compares to 2018 but the rate is slow down a bit in 2020.
- The last 2 groups have their doubling rates in 2019 compares to 2018 and they seems to keep up stable rate (it can be understandable, I guess they need to rank up and become more knowledgeable, more familiar with the forum, more monthly sMerit allocation for more actively merit sources. Lots of more factors).
Senders- In 4 of 5 groups: the common trend is upwards. The only exception is group 76 - 100, its rate is slower a bit in 2020.
- The 1st group is extremely dominant. It can be epxlained as most of them are merit sources.
- Top senders (include merit sources) have increases in their intensity of merit give-aways and values of each give-away merit transactions. See details. I mean newbies nowadays have easier chance to earn merits. They are more lucky than old-era newbies. If one is a new-era newbie, please stop complaining and keep improve post quality.
- You can see changes in intensity of give-away merit from top senders as well.
* Notes on newbies:- Old-era newbies: newbies before 24 Jan 2018.
- New-era newbies: newbies after 24 Jan 2018 till mid of 2019 (before merit allocations were reconstructured).
- Newest-era newbies: newbies after mid of 2019.
Rising stars in top-10- Receivers: fillippone
- Senders: LoyceV

I would not want to repeat what the others did. Actually, I know there are some threads on Searching but I have some points to improve their guides and I believe it will be more effectively if I have my own thread. In my thread, I have full control to update my guide with any upcoming discoveries or minor adjustments. The guide is partially inspired from that thread [Guide] Reporting effectively (by Welsh)
Table of contents IntroductionIn life, on the Internet, Searching is the basic work and it help our lives become easier. With search engines that become more and more effectively and productively, you can search everything that has been published publicly online. The key factor that decides your searching effectiveness is your searching skills. In the guide, I'd like to help you know basics with Searching (aims at the environment on the forum only). Where to Search- Search option from main menu *
- Hidden pages
* In this guide, I write about search with hidden pages. For search from main menu, you can see the guide from the forum, or other sources (at bottom).Basics from the guide on Help pageRead the guide on the help page, at the Searching section. You will use the Search page. Search with hidden pagesModlogVisit the Modlog page (it is also called as Deletion log). You can search for some information - Deleted reply
- Removed topic
- Autoban user
- Nuke user
Mostly, you will use the following search command to search for potentially recent actions from moderators on that account (ban, nuke, delete posts, remove topics, etc.) It is basic command and you can combine with other keywords such as ban, nuke, delete, remove Note: If a topic was trashed, the topic #0 will be displayed, instead of real topic ID before it was trashed. SeclogVisit the Seclog page (it is also called as Security log). The page gives you details on: - woke up
- password reset via secret question
- password reset via email
- manual recovery, previously-queued ownership change completed
How to search in Seclog page? - Username
- Combination of username and those 4 phrases above.
Note: By default, newbies are hidden but you can get them by clicking on Show all. Draft pageVisit the Draft page. It is helpful when you need to find previous versions of your posts or under-composing posts (but already clicked on preview) - Announcement (theymos): Drafts
- You need to click on post or preview to have a draft in that page
- Save only last 100 posts/previews
- Be deleted after 7 days
Search membersVisit the page Search membersYou can search for members by: - Username (default option)
- Position
- AFAIK, other options were disabled
The username option is most common used, enter username or part of username to search. Reminder: you search with username, not display name. Therefore, if one member changed display name and you use initial username to search, it will find you that guy but the display name will be different. The position option: it is helpful when you need to narrow-down the search data, for VIP/ donators/ staffs, etc. You can combine two options. Example: Choose 2 options, and use keyword ' Staff' to search. You will get list of staff members and normal members with staff in their usernames. Specific user's topic list pageVisit the page for specific user's topic list pageIt is helpful (especially for managers or productively thread creators) when you need to find a thread of yours or someone else but you don't remember keywords. Usually, people will click on Show the last topics started by this person from Profile page. Its disadvantage is you have to scroll down to find threads you are looking for. Sometimes it takes many times (large images, big threads, etc.). Example: I bookmark my list of topics over boards this way You can create your thread in Archival and save your topic list this way. It saves your time! Your latest IP addresses last 30 daysVisit the page Your latest IP addresses last 30 daysIt helps you to observe your latest IP addresses. It's tricky to get email notifications right so that they're not too spammy. Maybe later. For now, I added this page where you can see your IP logs for the past 30 days: https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php . You could pretty easily write a userscript to periodically check this and warn you if it's weird. (But don't scrape it on every pageload.) I don't want to make older IP logs automatically accessible because that'd give a hacker a bunch of useful/sensitive information. But 30 days is probably not too harmful. Your report historyVisit the page Your report history to get yours. There are differences for reporters who have 300 + reports and below. Report History Only users who have reported 300 good reports have access to this page This is probably one of the most useful features related to reporting. Basically, this shows you a history of your reports, and whether they have been marked good, bad or are unhandled. This page can be used for ongoing evaluation of your reporting habits. Use the information on this page to improve the quality of your posts. This tool can be accessed through the "report to moderator" page. The button to access this page looks like: This will bring you to a page which looks similar to this: This is the time that the report was made. This is the topic which was reported or the post that has been reported. By clicking on this link it will bring you to the reported post, unless it has been deleted. This is the user that was reported. These have been blurred out specifically for this thread for privacy reasons , however on your report history the username will be shown. This is the status of the report. If the report has been dealt with, and marked either bad or good they will show this. For example, Good reports will be marked "Good", bad posts will be marked "Bad", and unhandled reports will be "unhandled". Search personal messagesVisit the page Search Personal Messages and modify parameters for your needs. Search with your PMsVisit the pages below and use Up/ Down icon to sort them descendingly or ascendingly. It is helpful when to want to filter your PMs (to find past conversations or to delete PMs from a user). Search your captcha bypass codeVisit the page Your captcha bypass code. I know the boring fact that most of newbies do neither read forum rules nor Help page, etc. but the fact is there are some hidden pages/ features that newbies surely don't know about such. Most does not mean all of them don't read such threads. The welcome message is the very important message for new comers. It contains informative details, strong warnings and of course it inspires good newcomers to start their journey, adventure and career on the forum. Look at following dates, the thread looks like a hidden one. - Creation date: September 23, 2018, 08:58:25 PM
- Date of last post: August 07, 2019, 03:08:13 AM
I'd request to pin the thread Writing a welcome message in Meta board or Beginners & Help or both of them. Please take it into consideration, theymos.

I saw the thread Zero Transaction Fees: What's the catch? which looks interesting but it is for altcoin. Therefore I run a simple analysis for bitcoin transaction and here you go: Data:Results:- There are 125,228 blocks with fee_per_kb = 0. But not all of them are zero-fee transaction some of them are empty blocks.
- In 125,228 blocks, there are only 36,266 (28,96%) blocks that are not empty ones and are true zero-fee blocks.
- 2010 and 2011 are two years with highest zero-fee blocks: 2010 (20,517 blocks ~ 56.57%, 2011 with 13,600 blocks ~ 37.5%. They all account for 94.55% of all zero-fee blocks so far.
- There is no zero-fee blocks in 2017 and 2018.

Minutes ago, I was ranked up to Legendary that is what I expected for many weeks. Finally, I luckily got it and did not have to wait till my 1000 activities. Since today, I am a self-made Legendary Member. What I have done on the forum over boards: Above is a tip for you to filter your threads over boards (if you are productively make many threads over different boards). For thread in Meta board (change user = youruserid), change 24 to the board you want) https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=1292764&board=24.0
Ignore all my 'boring' threads on statistics, I list some threads on forum-releated things for you.

We have experienced more than 2 years and nearly a half with the merit system. Today, during lockdown and boring time, I would like to present another overview analysis on merit system. In particular, I present the distribution of earned merits. Let's look at the Pareto principle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principleData source:Results: - Total users who received at least 1 merits: 34282.
- Number of top 20% of merit earners: 6857
- Total earned merits by 34282 users: 678082
- Total earned merits by top 20 merit earners: 595288
Final result:Once again, we see another good example and usecase of the Pareto principle. - The top 20% merit earners have earned 87.8% of total earned merits on the forum.
+-----------------------------------+ | cat earned te p_te | |-----------------------------------| 1. | top 20% 595288 678082 87.8 | 2. | rest 80% 82794 678082 12.2 | +-----------------------------------+

Overview:- If we take the year 2018 as a reference year, and calculate the percent of changes in median fees between 2018 and 2020, the values are shown below.
- Monday, Sunday and Saturday are days of week that have most decreasing median fees.
- percent = (y2020 - y2018)/ y2018*100
- I dropped 2 years : 2009 and 2010 (because of their 0-values)

I know the forum has a hidden feature to help us searching list of user threads, for all boards or for a specific board, like these: * All board: https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=1292764 * A specific board: https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=1292764&board=24 (24 ~ Meta board) * Changing userid and boardid for your needs.
It is a tutorial for someone who have not yet known that page. It is really useful, indeed. I want to make a thread that plays as a collection of my thread. This is for users who follow me and for myself too. Saving my time when I want to search my old threads on a specific board. My list of threads expand longer over time and I am lazy to search over them (honestly sometimes I forget keywords in titles of my previous threads). Which board is appropriate to post it? I guess there are two candidate boards: Reputation, and Archival but not sure. It seems Archival is fitted for personal use whilst the Reputation board is fitted for followers. Maybe I will choose the Archival. Please help. I will lock the board after getting a good answer.
I found that one I am on the way to Legendary rank, after 2 years (only lack of activities). The content makes it is acceptable to leave it in Meta but if the others don't say about merit system, lessons from ranking up, I think Reputation is a better board. Maybe I will edit it with above methods, rather than listing all my threads and keep leaving it in Meta. Still listen to your ideas before locking this one.

ReminderAfter the abstract section, please see my updates since the following postABSTRACT updated on 5May2020- Period: 3Jan2009 - 5may2020
- 88894 empty blocks in the history of Bitcoin network
- The first 2 years (2009 - 2010) account for 88.6% of total empty blocks so far. See yearly stats
- 84218 (94.7%) of empty blocks were found by 'Unknown' miners.
- After excluding 'Unknown' miners, AntPool and F2Pool are the two biggest ones which found 36.6% and 21.3% of the rest of empty blocks.
- About percent of empty blocks which come after <1 minute compare to timestamp of one-block-before blocks: AntPool (72.2%) and F2Pool (71.4%). See details
- First empty blocks of 2 biggest pool: AntPool (13 Apr 2014), F2Pool (27 May 2013)

The thread is created to help you having overview on changes of total DT1, DT2 members.
- I update and convert data every week on my computer.
- Updates will be released quarterly, in new posts, not in OP.
- Spam will be reported. Please don't spam.
- Locked it to avoid spam. If you have suggestion, please send me in PMs, thanks.
Data sourceSome notes from LoyceV - The first bit is DT1, the rest (starting with userID 3) is DT2
- Only a few lines have the word "Banned".
- LoyceV always has one more Neutral feedback than it should have, because LoyceBot sees it's own neutral tag
- The DT1/DT2-data is scraped right before creating this data
- The Trust scores are taken from my latest Trust list viewer, updated each Saturday morning
- The Merit data is from Friday morning before that
- The Trust scores are scraped about a day earlier than that
- If a user is recently added to DT2, without being listed on my Trust list viewer, it says "Wait for next week". CascadiaCC for instance was added onto DT2 2 days ago.
- The same profile won't have a Trust score yet in tomorrow's update. I'll check tomorrow how that is handled.

When I saw that thread Raising Funds to fight against COVID 19 in Small Village, I think I have to do something. We all known that we have been in a pandemic since late of 2019 as well as the epidemic with abundant threads on COVID-19. My thread is created to help newbies and naive people to avoid a new scam method of scammers. They take the chance of the pandemic and our kindness, generosity to scam and steal money from naive donators. There are many official places to donate your money and help others: such as Red Cross, local charitable organizations, etc. You don't have to donate your money to unknown charity fundraisers if you don't know how legit they are. It is very risky! If you see scam fundraising threads, please let me know. Factsheets- They usually use newbie or brandnew accounts to create fundraising threads;
- They usually are woke-up accounts. Their passwords were changed or reset recently. See this guide for details
- They likely have active Flags;
- They likely have negative trust counters;
- They likely have positive trust counters but usually not too much. You must not trust their positive trust counters, verify instead.
- They don't use Escrow service for donation funds.
Recommendations- Immediately ignore if threads are created by newbie/ brandnew accounts like that one: Raising Funds to fight against COVID 19 in Small Village. Some reasons:
- Where were they (months, years) before the pandemic? They join the forum only because want to do fundraising. They joined the forum before the pandemic and only created new accounts to do fundraising. Whatsoever, they likely don't have good purpose as they wrote.
- Those accounts are likely throw-away ones. When they get funds, they will throw those accounts away and run with money.
- Immediately ignore if they have active flag(s) because with active flags, they are scammers.
- If they have negative trust counters
- If they only have negative trust counters. Ignore them because I am sure they are scammers.
- If they have a mix between positive trust counters and negative trust counters but the positive counters are significant higher, you can do more investigation on their trust feedbacks.
- If they have positive trust counters but usually not too much. You must not trust their positive trust counters, verify instead. *
- They don't use Escrow service for donation funds.
*: A case study: 3 positive trust feedback ended as scammers, with active flag and 7 negative trust feedback. Zerbis is a Scammer. Zerbis' trust summary page (You have to log in your account to see trust feedback). Supplementary threads
