There are some users made their own scam lists, but some have not made their own lists. I collected them here. For scam fighters, whom already created their own lists, I simply leave links to their lists of scam. If you have interests in their lists, visit via given links.

  • If you have your scam lists or you know someone have their scam lists, please let me know.
  • I see some scam fighthers have not yet created their own list, that I think they should do.
  • In the thread, I only added list of products from scam fighters, so I need your list, not your sparsely scam-fighting products.

222  Other / Beginners & Help / Enhanced privacy with Wasabi & Samourai wallets on: September 13, 2019, 08:35:02 AM
    • Using CoinJoin increases your privacy but you have to read rules of platforms before sending your funds to them. Platforms tend to restrict CoinJoin transactions.
    • Only use Coin Join transactions if you have fully control.
    • Avoid using Coin Join transactions on third-party platforms that don't allow it.[e].

"Not your keys, not your bitcoin" [3]
It is a vital rule, so if one want to enhance privacy, s/he should learn to use non-custodial wallets that provide enhanced privacy, like Wasabi and Samourai. There are so many mixing platforms but it is risky to store your coins too long on those platforms. Someone made that mistake and lose their coins on scam mixing platforms.

There are two wallets for this purpose:
    • Wasabi wallet
    • Samourai wallet
They are both use Coinjoin to give users modification options to enhance their privacy.

It is worth to warn you all that those wallets only enhance your privacy, and not give your completely privacy. Additionally, the personal practice of user will determine level of privacy they have.

Now, let's see what is Coinjoin
    • CoinJoin: Bitcoin privacy for the real world
    • CoinJoin is a trustless method for combining multiple Bitcoin payments from multiple spenders into a single transaction to make it more difficult for outside parties to determine which spender paid which recipient or recipients. Unlike many other privacy solutions, coinjoin transactions do not require a modification to the bitcoin protocol. [1]
    • In very simple terms, coinjoin means: “when you want to make a transaction, find someone else who also wants to make a transaction and make a joint transaction together”. [2]

    FAQs

    Why Wasabi ?
Wasabi Wallet is an open source, non-custodial, privacy-focused, desktop Bitcoin wallet offered by zkSNACKs Ltd. It differentiates itself from many other wallets for its strong focus on user privacy.

    #1 - Wasabi wallet

The Wasabi wallet uses CoinJoin in order to anonymize BTC.

     - Pros: Easy to use; fairly cheap ~0.15% fee; pretty good privacy; automatically uses Tor
     - Cons: ~0.1BTC minimum; with a great deal of effort and investigation, transaction analysis may still be possible, especially if you leave other traces; the coordinator could possibly do an active sybil attack against specific coins

Wasabi wallet has processed 5372 Coinjoin transactions as of writing

    What's the legal status of Wasabi/CoinJoin? [5]
USA: On May 9, 2019, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued an interpretive guidance that stated the following in section 4.5.1(b):
    Quote
An anonymizing software provider is not a money transmitter. FinCEN regulations exempt from the definition of money transmitter those persons providing "the delivery, communication, or network access services used by a money transmitter to support money transmission services."
Wasabi is an Anonymizing software provider so it is not a money transmitter, thus not under Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations. Basically we can continue to operate like now and it is compliant.

    Anonymity sets
    What is anonymity set?
The anonymity set is effectively the size of the group you are hiding in. [4]
If 3 people take part in a CoinJoin (with equal size inputs) and there are 3 outputs then each of those output coins has an anonymity set of 3.

There is no way to know which of the anon set output coins are owned by which of the input owners. All an observer knows is that a specific anon set output coin is owned by one of the owners of one of the input Coins i.e. 3 people - hence an anonymity set of 3.

Your Wasabi software has limited information on what the anonymity set should be, so the anonymity set that the software presents you is just an estimation, not an accurate value. With Wasabi we are trying to do lower estimations, rather than higher ones.

Both Wasabi and Monero can be thought of in terms of "anonymity sets". If you're spending some BTC with an anonymity set of 50, this means that an observer can see that the sender is one of 50 people, but they can't tell which. So someone investigating a particular transaction you sent would have you "in their sights" to a certain extent from the start since you're among the 50, but in order to prove that you sent it, they'd have to either eliminate 49 other people from consideration or find some other evidence linking you to it.

Wasabi always aims for an anonymity set of 50 when mixing. Monero has an anonymity set of 11 per transaction. If you cascade transactions as I suggest above, then this multiplies, so after two transactions you have an anonymity set of 11*11=121, and after a cascade of three you'd have an anonymity set of 1331.

The quality of each member in the anonymity set isn't quite comparable, though. Monero is able to hide transaction amounts, which is helpful, but I tend to consider the quality of Monero anonymity-set-members to be lower on average, since many are probably owned by hosted wallets or other possible global adversaries.

    Fees for Coinjoins
    Quote
You currently pay a fee of 0.003% * anonymity set. If the anonymity set of a coin is 50 then you pay 0.003% * 50 (=0.15%). If you set the target anonymity set to 53 then Wasabi will continue mixing until this is reached, so you may end up with an anonymity set of say 60, and you will pay 0.003% * 60 (=0.18%).

There are also edge cases where you do not pay the full fee or where you pay more. For example if you're the smallest registrant to a round, you will never pay a fee. Also when you are remixing and you cannot pay the full fee with your input, then you only pay as much as you have, but if the change amount leftover would be too small, then that is also added to the fee. Currently the minimum change amount to be paid out is 0.7% of the base denomination (~0.1BTC.)

It is also possible that you get more back from mixing than you put in. This happens when network fees go down between the start of the round and its end. In this case, the difference is split between the active outputs of the mix.
    Avoid to recombine mixed coins
    Quote
It is advisable to limit the recombining of mixed coins because it can only decrease the privacy of said coins. This links all the consolidated UTXOs in one transaction, creating only one output, which then clearly controls all these funds. That said, if you combine less than 1 BTC it is less likely to reveal your pre-coinjoin transaction history. The potential issue comes when you spend that coin. Depending on what you do with the coin you might reduce the privacy of the resulting change (if you send half your coin to an exchange for example, as they will know that you own the coin change). As a result it is best not to recombine ALL your mixed change, though you may wish to recombine some coins if you are planning on hodling for many years as this will reduce the fees required to spend the coins later.

    Verify first, before installing
It is the same rule with other wallets, verifing package first before installing (if wallets have that option).
It is strongly recommended to VERIFY PGP SIGNATURES of the downloaded packages before installing Wasabi. This protects you against malicious phishing sites giving you back-doored Wallet software. Don't trust - Verify!
There are different wallets, for: MacOs, Windows, Linux, Ubuntu / Debian. Download here

Choose other Bench32-support wallets that have coin control features
Wasabi wallet only supports to generate Bench32 address, but it does not support to send your bitcoin to others Bench32-address, so you have to choose other alternative wallets to do this.
    Suggested wallets [4]:
Read more: Why does Wasabi only use SegWit bech32 addresses?

    Some notes on Wasabi wallet
    • Wasabi wallet implement bitcoin transactions through Coinjoin inputs and Coinjoin outputs, but the wallet is unable to know which outputs of belong to which inputs. This is why it brings more privacy to users.
    • Practice of coin control after mixing will identify the level of privacy users have. That depends on practice of users, not the Wasabi wallet.
    • Wasabi wallet uses Tor by default, and users don't have to set up Tor. a
    • Do not turn off Tor in Settings, because it might damage their privacy by IP address.
    • Verify first, before installing
    • Wasabi wallet only generate Bench32 address (with prefix bc1 at the start of address), but unable to send BTC to other Bench32 address
    • Don't send all of your bitcoins to a new wallet, instead import your seeds into new wallet in order to protect your privacy.

    a
All Wasabi network traffic goes via Tor by default - no need to set up Tor yourself. If you do already have Tor, and it is running, then Wasabi will try to use that first.

You can turn off Tor in the Settings. Note that in this case you are still private, except when you coinjoin and when you broadcast a transaction. In the first case, the coordinator would know the links between your inputs and outputs based on your IP address. In the second case, if you happen to broadcast a transaction of yours to a full node that is spying on you, it will know the link between your transaction and your IP address.

    Samourai wallet
It is important to note that at beginning, lead developers of Wasabi and Samourai wallets worked together to build one application, then their vision to develop diverged and they splited to develop different wallets. From that, we have Wasabi and Samourai wallets.

    Theymos' opinion on privacy
[1] [Guide] Decent mixing methods (on Wasabi-CoinJoin and Monero)

[2] Technically aspects of Monero, Grin and potential for future developments
Relating to Mimblewimble and Grin, I’ve come across a couple of recent interesting reads, fresh from the oven:

    https://medium.com/dragonfly-research/breaking-mimblewimble-privacy-model-84bcd67bfe52
https://medium.com/grin-mimblewimble/factual-inaccuracies-of-breaking-mimblewimbles-privacy-model-8063371839b9 (counters arguments to the former link).

I don’t really know how much certainty the above articles provide, but it casts some doubt as to exactly how far the anonymity goes. At least if it’s what I was after, I’d keep reading these sort of articles for a few days to get a better idea of the extent.

AFAIK, that medium post is nothing new.

Base mimblewimble isn't really designed to be a "black box of reliable anonymity" in the way that Monero or Wasabi-CoinJoins are, where connections are hard-broken. It's more of a framework on which you could build solid anonymity using techniques that have largely not yet been perfected, plus major scaling benefits. Monero = CT + stealth addresses + ring signatures. Grin = CT + "stealth addresses" + mimblewimble. Because grin replaces ring signatures with mimblewimble, its privacy is less reliable than Monero's. Probably the grin developers have tried to make their mimblewimble transaction aggregation methods good, but I currently wouldn't put much faith in it, and IMO it'll take many years of research to get something really solid. That said, CT + stealth addresses offer a certain base level of privacy, and grin's method of handling stealth addresses (using an interactive protocol, exchanging "slates") is both more scalable than Monero and probably more private.

If your goal is to mix coins, grin is definitely not for you right now, and it may never be. Monero's goal is maximal privacy, regardless of the cost. Grin's goal is excellent privacy, consistent with scaling.

    223  Other / Beginners & Help / Bumping - Rules, FAQs on: September 12, 2019, 03:06:27 AM
Reading rules to understand, and obey rules will help to reduce probability of posts deleted, temporary ban, or more seriously permanent ban.

    Rules:
Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ
    Bumping changes on some boards

    FAQs
Updates through posts considered as bump. Updating posts are likely deleted or merged by moderators. So, please be careful with your updating posts.

Q: Where the idea of bump button come from?
A: It came from community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them). It takes theymos' attention, and after around one year, he brings it to life.
An example: a bump button sounds good as a fix for certain very visible problems, but it also codifies a broken system. People would use bots to bump all of their threads constantly, giving "industrial" posters a huge advantage over casual posters. A captcha could maybe help a little, but there are services where you can pay a tiny fee to have captchas solved for you. (Which opens another question: maybe a comparatively tiny fee should be allowed as an alternative to having you solve a captcha.) A better solution would be to replace the concept of traditional bumping with something quite different, with different bumping models for different types of sections. But that requires further thought. If implementing a bump button was free, perhaps it'd be worthwhile to at least do it for now and fix a few minor problems with bumping today. But since it's a clearly-imperfect solution, this isn't even on my miles-long to-do list.

    Q: Why my posts deleted?
A: There are many reasons, in the topic, I only mentioned about reasons relate to bumping.
    13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours.[2]
    21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]
    22. Advertising (this includes mining pools, gambling services, exchanges, shops, etc.) in others threads' is no longer allowed, including, but not limited to, in altcoin announcement threads. [8]
Besides those reasons, there is another common reason, that is "Updates" posts. Updates considered as bumping posts, and OPs should use edit button rather than Post button to do updates for threads.
    4. Bumps are limited to once per day (24 hours), yes this includes "updates", that's what the edit button is for. Old bumps should be deleted as they serve no purpose, and only clutter up topics and make it more annoying to read.
There are so many threads that asked for reasons of posts deleted. If you search, you will see them, with bumping is one of most common reasons, besides off-topic, non-sense, pointless posts.

Q: I don't think my posts should be considered as bumping ones?
A: Forum staffs have their rights to do their own rule interpretation for each case and context. If they consider your posts are bumping ones, they are mostly right.
    23. When deciding if a user has broken the rules, the staff have the right to follow their interpretation of the rules.[e]

Q: Please help, forum staffs merged my original posts into one, without details on timepoints, contexts when and where I made orignal posts, that makes merged posts look like trash.
A: Don't put your posts under risks of mandatory merging by moderators. They don't have time to edit your merged posts, so please don't complain and do your responsibility better when you make posts or updates.

Since 11th September 2019, there are changes on Bumping, that currently applied for three boards with Bump button (in Red color) at the top right corner of each thread.
    Quote
    - Service Announcements
     - Announcements (Altcoins)
     - Tokens (Altcoins)
    - Bounties (Altcoins)
    - More boards might be added later, includes Digital goods, and local boards if moderators send request to theymos.
Bumping changes on some boards or (just for now) you can visit the topic of admin by given link in news area (after logging in), but I am not sure how long it will be displayed in news area
News: If you like a topic and you see an orange "bump" link, click it. More info.
It is a bit complicated, but if you are not bumper, you are fine with those changes.
I made a graph to fully understand what this means. With 1 Super bump per day, it takes a couple of months to stabilize to a certain Super bump power.

Just a thought: New topics still show up on top, so I can imagine someone creating the same topic every day, while archiving the last one.
224  Other / Meta / Multi-posts in multi ANN topics to advertise new platforms. Is it acceptable ? on: September 09, 2019, 11:23:55 PM
It is not my first time I saw such advertisement, but I don't know it is acceptable (based on unofficial forum rules) or not.

If one platform, such as exchanges, or crypto currency rating service (that is trash, but just use it as example) makes multiple posts from only one template in multiple announcement topics (of other projects/ platforms).
What they do is adjusting template with link, name, screenshot of specific project/ platform that they want to make post inside ANN topic.

I think of that advertisement post:
    - It is not off-topic
    - It is not plagiarism because one can not plagiarise his/her-self.
    - However, mutiple posts in multi topics with same template should be considered as spam, IMO.

Are there any rules on this among current unofficial forum rules ?
Or what users can do is only report which posts they see?

That is current issue in Announcement (Altcoins) board.

225  Other / Meta / New options for patrol pages and ignore board preferences (profile page), please on: September 07, 2019, 10:06:46 AM
    There are two patrol pages:
    (1) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol
    (2) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol;nobounty
The second page limited to posts outside bounty threads.

I am curious and ask myself that whether I can limited posts in a few boards by using Ignore board preferences in my profile page. I tried, and failed.

By the way, I discovered that in Ignore board preferences, there are some main boards, that I can choose it to ignore all subboards inside (Bitcoin Discussion; Development & Technical Discussion; Mining, e.g.); but there are few boards that I can not do it, such as Local. What can I do if I want to ignore all local boards in patrol page. There is no option to do this, by now.

It will be helpful for reporters if they want to focus on specific boards to find spam posts, through patrol page.

    I suggest:
    • Adding option (checkbox) for some boards (Local, e.g.) in ignore preference board
    • Adding option to choose specific boards in patrol page

Users can manually customize their patrol page
Patrol isn't really hidden. You can make a link to it appear at the top of each page immediately above the link to your Watchlist by going to Profile - Forum Profile Information - and checking the box titled "Show patrol link".

What is hidden is that you can customize the patrol link to view other recent posts. Patrol shows the last 200 posts by newbie accounts. If you delete ";patrol" from the link, so you are left with https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent, you will see the last 100 posts by all accounts. You can also customize this by adding ";boards=x,y,z" on to the end, where x, y, z (and so on) are the boards you are interested in. For example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;boards=1 will show the last 100 posts in Bitcoin Discussion
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;boards=7,8,57 will show the last 100 posts in Economics, Speculation and Trading Discussion.

You can also chain this together together with patrol, so for example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;boards=1;patrol will show all the posts by newbies on Bitcoin Discussion out of the last several hundred newbies posts. I'm not sure exactly how many recent newbie posts the forum keeps on file to populate this list from, but it's not a huge number (in the region of several hundred) I think, and since the vast majority of newbie posts are spamming the altcoin boards with bounty reports, then usually this will only show you a small handful of posts.
But there is still the first suggestion, Ignore preference boards should have more main boxes. Currently there are some boards, that only have child boxes for child boards.
226  Other / Meta / Make your topic title, posts more attractive on: September 06, 2019, 06:44:48 AM
    Objectives:
    (1) To name your topic title shorter
    (2) To better express your ideas and catch more attention of readers

    Notes:
    • The guide only help writers to construct their ideas, sentence; choose good keywords, hooks, etc. and make their topics, or posts look more attractive at a blink of eyes.
    • It does not change general quality of topics/ posts.
    • Determinant things are creative ideas, and details, examples to support/ expand/ explain core ideas.

    Sources:
    • Theymos' guide: Topic title style guide
    • Book: How to write and illustrate a scientific paper, 2nd edition, Bjorn Gustavii

    Avoid
    Tags within brackets or abbreviations
Some people like to put "tags" in the title within brackets. Like "[GLBSE] [ANNOUNCE] ASDF: Generic asset". I personally don't like this style. I prefer to include the tag info within the sentence, like "Announcing ASDF, a generic asset on GLBSE". When tags are really necessary, it may indicate that a new subforum should be created.

    Newspaper capitalization
Use normal capitalization, not "newspaper capitalization". "Thread title style guide" instead of "Thread Title Style Guide". Capitalize the first letter of the title unless it a trademark like "eMachines".

    Timepoints
If the title is composed of only one sentence, don't include a period at the end. If it contains two or more sentences, put a period after each sentence, including the last. Questions must end with a question mark.

    Unnecessary hedging
Don't overuse hedges, because your sentence will become more difficult to understand

    Remote verb
Keep your key words and verb stay as closely as possible because remote verbs will blurr what you want to say.
"Merit system, after its about 2 years history, and few adjustments, has reduced spam"
    This one is better:
"Merit system reduces spam, after two years"

    Respectively
In case you present a long list of things (>= 4), with figures, you should avoid using respectively, because readers will have to backwards read objects you mention and compare with figures you present. It certainly cost readers lots of time and give them a bit uncomfortable feelings.
Personally, if I present data with four objects and above, I will avoid using respectively.
Example: (Figures used in this example are not real data)

There are three boards that have most non-sense posts, gambling discussion, altcoin discusssion, trading discussion, and bitcoin discussion with total non-sense posts per day at 10000, 20000, 25000, and 30000 respectively. (1)

There are three boards that have most non-sense posts, gambling discussion (with total non-sense posts per day at 10000), altcoin discusssion (20000), trading discussion (25000), and bitcoin discussion (30000). (2)

    The (2) style looks better.

    Should
    Key words/ hooks
    • To catch attention of readers
    • Should be put at the beginning of title.
    • Key words immediately disclose what you want to bring to readers
"Users were affected to rank up"
There are so many reasons, so if you want to point out exactly merit system as a cause, you should use this title
"Merit system affects rank-up speed of users"
I use two keywords: merit system, and rank-up speed (to emphasize that the effect is on rank-up speed, not de-rank speed).

Active is better than passive sentence
"Merit system affects rank-up speed of users"
"Rank-up speed of users was affected by merit system"
I do believe the first one is better

Questions: question mark and question words (what, why, when, how)
    • Only use question mark if you ask for something
    • Use declarative title to say what you found, rather than question mark (?)
"Does merit system affect rank-up speed of users?"
With this one, readers don't know what you will present in your thread. They will easily think that you ask for reasons, rather than present your findings and things that you think are reasons.

    Condensation of your title
    • Keep it as short as possible (to save reading time of readers, catch more attention, and to satisfy character limitations)
    • Omit all needless, superfluous words (includes useless adjectives): they obscure meanings and distract readers to main points
    • If your thread title is not interesting, not attractive (lack of keywords, hooks, too long), they will ignore your thread
"Merit system over its two year history possibly affects the general rank-up speed of users"
This one is too long. If I am reader, I will ignore it.

Use declarative rather than a neutral title
    Let's compare two titles
"Influence of merit system on forum users" (Neutral)
"Merit system reduces spam, restrict spammers to rank up" (Declarative)
The second one is much better, because it directly emphasizes which sort of influence of merit system writer will discuss.

    Tense
Using simple present or simple past

You can apply those things for your posts, to make your topic sentence more attractive, and more informative. I usually ignore posts that written without topic sentence.
There are more important things to make your posts not only attractive at first glance, but also informative and have above-average quality

Initially, I would like to make a thread for two statistics, activity and amount of merits distributed over local boards on daily basis.
I have this idea for a long time ago, but LoyceV felt difficult to give me such data (or he did not catch my ideas, not sure).

Then, days ago, I saw that topic: [Stats] Local Boards Activity, which brought the idea to make my thread about that issue back.

Thanks for @DTalk for that great topic, and @DdmrDdmr for data dump as well as great explanation and link to Wayback Machine.
I will find out more about Wayback Machine for further update of the thread.

    Notes:
    - Update will be made in last posts, not in the OP.
    - Lack of data for daily posts (lack of acceptable precise data)

    OBJECTIVES
    - Statistics on merit distribution (daily) over boards in median, interquartile range, mean, standard deviations
    - Box plots of daily merit distribution over boards

    ABSTRACT
    Observed period: 01/07/2019 - 29/08/2019
    (1) Median of daily merits over all sub-sections is 2, and interquartile range (IQR) is 0 to 9.
    (2) Highest subsection in terms of median of daily merits is Russian , at 52; the second and third highest is Turkish (at 11), and German (at 10). Some other subsections that have significant median of daily merits are Arabic, and Pilipinas (at 9), French (at 8 ), Indonesian (at 7), and Italian (at 6).
    (3) Lowest subsection in terms of median of daily merits are Chinese, Dutch, Greek, Japanese, Romanian, Others, at 0.
    (4) Minimum and maximum of daily merits (over all subsections) are 0 and 231, that was found in Russian board, while the maximum of daily merits in German board is a little lower at 201.
    (5) Over 60 days, the top 5 subsections are Russian (3440, 35.1%), German (1070, 10.9%), Turkish (852, 8.7%), Pilipinas (821, 8.4%), and French (708 , 7.2%). Figures displayed in sum and percent, respectively.

I created some statistical analyis threads on bitcointalk.org, so I think it is easier for me and others (whom have big interests in those threads) with a list of my threads. Today, I collected and listed them all in this thread.

Most of them will be regularly updated (weekly or monthly).

    229  Other / Meta / Merit source observations on: September 02, 2019, 11:22:35 AM
Many months ago, on 24th January 2018, merit appeared in the forum, as airdropped merits (and sMerits) for grandfather accounts, then it has become a gift for good posters.
There is no benefits to beg for merits as well as merit sources, because merit beggars might get negative trust or bad feedback in return.

In the thread, I publish observations on merit source growth over months.
For more details, there are some threads to read:
      Merit source stats

Some helpful opinion of theymos on merit sources:

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

Merit sources are free to reveal their source amounts, though I think it may be a bit unwise. While it will eventually become obvious roughly what the source amounts are from the stats, there's a huge difference between showing up in a "list of probable merit sources" and having a quote out there of you basically saying "I'm a merit source, come beg me for merit, complain about every merit I send, and accuse me of being part of the anti-X/pro-Y conspiracy."

    Notes:
    - Update will be made in last post, not in OP.
    - If you find something, or discover incorrect data, please let me know.
    - Date presents in the format: dd/mm/yyyy.
    - Dates present in the dataset might not exactly the day when total merit sources reach those figures, they are just dates recorded arbitrarily by users.
    - The first datapoint (24/1/2018), I got the smerits at 8125 smerits (it might be incorrect), from that post

Each source has a different limit per 30 days. The current average is 185, and in total up to 8125 merit could be created per month.
Nevertheless, I think it is correct, because about 4 hours after that post, theymos made this one, in which we see there was still 35 total merit sources

230  Other / Meta / Merit source growth history, if you know it, please help me on: September 02, 2019, 07:06:48 AM
    Hi all bitcointalkers,

I made a thread on One year anniversary of merit system months ago, but today I came back to edit it a little bit.
I decided to add a new section for Merit source history, then I missed at least one important point, that painted in Red. If you know when it happened, please help me, and correct me if I posted something incorrect.
    This one:
    Quote
    4. Rose to 123 merit sources in total (not sure when ??)
It is important to emphasize that this wave happened before the day I made that thread, on January 24, 2019, 03:11:36 PM.

It is that section in my thread.
    History of merit sources:
    1. 24/01/2018: 35 merit sourcess
Does that mean all merit sources are hand selected?
Right. There are about 35 right now.
    2. 26/01/2018: 49 merit sources
I was checking merit stats and found that there are now 49 merit sources:

    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

    Merit sources
There are 49 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 9025 sMerit per 30 days

Initially there were 35 announced and I noticed 1 or 2 people nominating. How come we have an additional 14 in one day ?
    I added more. Smiley

By no means is the set of merit sources or their sMerit/month static. I will be adjusting it a lot as needed, especially in the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 100-200 sources in a year from now.

    3. 01/03/2018: 57 merit sources in total
This number is much larger than 11975 sMerits, which are currently created by 57 merit sources per month.
The sMerits created by 57 merit sources are not sufficient and most of used sMerits were initially assigned ones.

    4. Rose to 123 merit sources in total (not sure when ??)

    5. 15/3/2019: Increased to 130 merit sources
This wave happened simultaneously with Vod's remove as a merit source
If I remember correctly, there were 123 Merit sources yesterday. One dropped out:
Theymos has responded to my request to be removed as a merit source.  No more working for free.  Smiley
I think theymos took the opportunity to process new Merit source applications, there are now 130 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 20605 sMerit per 30 days.
231  Other / Beginners & Help / Simple steps to get URL links of your posts on: August 30, 2019, 07:14:18 AM
I commented in a thread, Proof of authentication, in which OP asked for steps to get link of post to fill it in Proof of Authentication post when campaign required.

I made a comment there to answer.

Personally, I get url link of my post by these steps:
    - Making post, like this one.
After click on post button, and post made, you will see url link with xxxxxx.new#new at the end.

To get url link of post, you have to do second step.
    - Clicking on post title, then web browser will be directed to exact url link of this post.
    Post title is here:

Link I get for this post after clicking on post title is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179810.msg52308293#msg52308293

For old posts, not newly published ones, doing only the second step to get url link.

To avoid the post burried by shit posts and forgotten over time, I decided to make this thread.

Which types of links you want to get here, in forum?
    Three types, in my opinion:
    • Newly published posts' links
    • Old posts' links
    • Topics' links

Method #1: Newly published posts' links
Personally, I get url link of my post by these steps:
    - Making post, like this one.
After click on post button, and post made, you will see url link with xxxxxx.new#new at the end.

To get url link of post, you have to do second step.
    - Clicking on post title, then web browser will be directed to exact url link of this post.
    Post title is here:

Link I get for this post after clicking on post title is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179810.msg52308293#msg52308293

For old posts, not newly published ones, doing only the second step to get url link.

    Method #2: Old posts' links
There are two ways to do it:
    - My second step above: Clicking on post title, then web browser will be directed to exact url link of this post.
    - Right click on posts's ordinal number inside threads > Copy link address (guide given by @stomachgrowls)
    For some visuals

You can also click that link and copy from the url bar.

    Method #3: Topics' links
Same steps above, but there is one note for you. If you want to make your threads' link shortly. You should do the following step.
For this thread, after publishing, I will see an URL link like that:

If you click on first post in your thread, you will get that link:

Unfortunately, it is link to OP of your thread, not your thread's link, and it is a long one.

You will get exact thread's link if you get link as described in the attached image

Then you will get exactly what you want.

It will help you if you want to put so many threads in your signature space, then you will have to deal with character limitations.

I also think you should differentiate between thread's link, OP link of your thread, and post link.

TOP 100 OF MOST MERITED PROFILES & MOST MERIT SENDERS

    Notes:
    - Update will be made in new posts, not in OP; but for now I don't have plans to update, but I might do it quarterly.

    ABSTRACT

    (1) Percentages of DT1 members are the same, at 50% in top 100 merited profiles and top 100 merit senders.
    (2) Percentages of DT2 members are 37% and 34%, in top 100 merited profiles and top 100 merit senders, respectively.
    (3) Percentages of normal users are 13% and 14%, in top 100 merited profiles and top 100 merit senders, respectively.

Top 100 of most merited profiles

Hours ago, I moved to top 100 of most merited profiles in BPIP ranking page, at the 99th position. Then, I play with data available on that page to count percentages of DT1, DT2, and normal users in the top 100 of most merited profiles.

I got this dataset from BPIP most merited profiles

What I got from that dataset is:
    • DT1 members: 50 (50%)
    • DT2 members: 37 (37%)
    • Normal members: 13 (13%)

Only 13% users in top 100-merited profiles are normal users (non-DT members), as of writing, August 26, 2019, 01:23:55 PM (forum time)

    Question:
    - For the rest (87%), how many users became DT members after jumping into that top?

Top 100 of most merit senders

I got this dataset from BPIP most merit sent

What I got from that dataset is:
    • DT1 members: 50 (50%)
    • DT2 members: 36 (36%)
    • Normal members: 14 (14%)

Only 14% users in top 100 merit senders are normal users (non-DT members), as of writing, August 26, 2019, 01:23:55 PM (forum time)

    I earned my 600th merits on 9th September 2019.

    • I will immediately stop campaigns if your projects turn into scam ones; *

    • I would diversify types of participants based on their favorite boards, to help your campaign get as biggest effects as possible. *
    • I would prefer to use Bitcoin Segwit addresses for campaigns but I am fine with Legagy addresses too.

    * Basically, funds should not refund to scammers; but I don't hold money that does not belong to me. Funds will be used to pay for works of participants and manager for their eligible works till the day projects found as scam; rest of funds will be sent back to you

Due to data gaps, I chose to start from Oct. 2017, till Jul. 2019.
    • The thread will be updated monthly, with data dump from @VB1001.
    • All percent of changes calculated for two continuous months.
    • Statistics are for last days of months.

I left 1 (in day) as day of each month, but in fact it should be last days of months, and different depends on different months (I will fix it in later hours)

    236  Other / Meta / History of bitcointalk.org's rank system on: July 29, 2019, 12:42:50 PM
    Today, @Welsh wrote this:
It's definitely harder to rank up these days, and certain posts are more likely to get merit. For example, the statistics users are chucking out via data scraping, and all that will be more likely to receive merit, because its both informative, and out of the capability of many of the users here. There's been 3 stages of ranking up if I remember correctly here on Bitcointalk. First of all, ranking up was tied to amount of posts you had (activity wasn't implemented at this time) then activity got introduced, and there were a few moans, and groans about it. Finally, the merit system was implemented, and has had the most criticism, and impact on the forum. I personally believe its had a positive impact on the forum, and is the better system of all three.

I searched topic history of @satoshi, @theymos, @Cyrus, and @Sirius, but I have not found the first rank system of the forum. I do checked all @satoshi's posts, and did not find what I need. So, anyone knows it, please give me details.

I think this thread is helpful for forum users, old or new users, to have exact information on history of bitcointalk.org's rank system.
There are three periods, in which the forum has three different rank system and different criteria for it.

    1. November 22, 2009 - June 17, 2013: Without activity requirements
Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!
I need help with more details on rank system within this period. Please help if you know it!
However, that period existed, because I saw some complaints when the second rank system activated.
This is bullshit! I was less than 40 posts way from being a Hero, and now I'm not quite even Sr??!! That's it, I'm outta here.

Totally kidding. I much prefer this new system personally. People have always put way too much stake in the "Sr/Hero" titles... at least now only veterans will get them.

Thanks for your continued efforts upgrading the forum, theymos. Great stuff.
@Welsh gave me hands, but still need more details (official announcements from admins?)
Forum rankings, unless custom, are based on post-count alone.

Highest is Hero Member, followed by Sr. Member, followed by Full Member, followed by Jr. Member, followed by Newbie.

What are the numbers of posts for each ranking?

    I believe it's something like:
    Hero - 500
    Sr Member - 250
Full Member - 100? (not sure on this one)

    2. June 18, 2013 - January 23, 2018: Activity requirements
    Activity & new membergroup limits
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
    activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

    Activity is updated every hour.

The new membergroup limits work like this: (Edit: Obsolete, do not use)
    GroupRequirement
    Brand New0 posts
    Newbie(none)
    Jr. Memberactivity: 30
    Memberactivity: 60
    Full Memberactivity: 120
    Sr. Memberactivity: 240
    Hero Memberactivity: 480
Legendaryoccurs randomly between 775 and 1030 activity

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.
Theymos wrote that announcement, but Cyrus wrote that one:
I added forum activity, changed the number of coins. Was kinda tired and that slipped away.
I still don't know who coded activity requirements / badges for ranks in this change.

    3. January 24, 2018 - by now: Activity requirements + Merit requirements
Announcement for changes: Merit & new rank requirements
In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

    RankRequired activityRequired merit
    Brand new00
    Newbie10
    Jr Member301
    Member6010
    Full Member120100
    Sr. Member240250
    Hero Member480500
    LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000
Note that merit requirement on Junior member rank only implemented since September 17, 2018.
    Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements
Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

To sum up, from the history of forum rank system, it is clearly that we all do survive in the forum, whatever rank requirements used; and we (most of us) don't leave the forum due to new requirements on rank system.

Stop complaining, adapt, and rank up!

Yesterday, I missed the massive spam wave that last for minutes or around one hour. That spam wave reminds me that I noted some helpful threads on effectively reports spam.

    Two types of spam:
    (1) Spam with non-sense posts, but different in contents (part of them plagiarised, or use some templates).
    (2) Spam with complete post contents: like what happened yesterday

How to report those spam posts?
    (1) You apply those steps that presented in that guide (from forum staff)
They make spam posts, but there is no reason to nuke them if they make spam post in the first or second times. I meant for those cases, you report their posts and the ultimate purpose is to delete their posts only.
There is a guide on this (from a forum staff):
    [Guide] Reporting effectively
You should spend your time to read that guide thoroughly.
Briefly, there are some ways/ tools to help you to do this:
    - Report to moderator button: This button is on the right corner at the bottom of each post.
    - Patrol: This page help you to fastly have overview on real-time spam situation in the forum, on all boards.
    - Report History
    Quote
Only users who have reported a certain number of reports have access to this page
    - Modlog:
    - Seclog:
    - Plagiarism checkers: Edubirdie.com; Grammarly; Small SEO tools .
    - Additional tools (userscripts):
[HACK] One-click mod report, not for the faint of heart, which I suggest you to use for reporting.
[Userscript] Report to moderator on post history
    [Userscript] Bitcointalk Post Filter
[Guide]How to detect rule-breakers.Techniques and tips.

    (2) For those case. The main purpose to report them is: nuking their accounts. By nuking their accounts, it is obviously that you don't have to report all their spam posts.
    For example:
    - If a spam farm has 100 accounts, each account already make 10 spam posts (with same contents). All things you have to do is pointing out those 100 accounts, and their post-template. It's enough, and you don't have to report 100 x 10 = 1.000 posts of that farm.
    I suggest the report template:
    Account name, profile link
For example, with that account, you can report like this:
    Alinochka_bw_Py, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2602925
After that account get nuked, you should edit that report like this. Doing this to announce forum staffs that the reported account already been nuked.
    Alinochka_bw_Py, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2602925, Nuked!

Of course you can do this:
    Alinochka_bw_Py.
    Code:
    [url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2602925]Alinochka_bw_Py[/url].
Nevertheless, doing this cost time, and I don't think we should spend too much time for spam reports.

    Customize your patrol page
I just discovered interesting things on patrol page, so I updated the thread today.

Now, let me presenting what I discovered.

Beside the standard patrol page, that most of us know, at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol (1)
There is another 'hidden' patrol page, in which posts made in bounty threads disabled by default, at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol;nobounty (2). I knew about that page by @suchmoon or @Vod, and originally it was disclosed in Russian board.

    Generally
    • The (1) page is overwhelming spam posts, and there is no reason to find spam posts in bounty threads, with abundant proof of authentication or weekly report posts
    • The (2) page is more helpful, but by default, there are still so many posts over many boards

So, what users can do if they want to limit posts in their interest boards, such as Altcoin Discussions?
There is solution, but users have to manually customize their patrol page. Here is a guide, given by @o_e_l_e_o

What users have to do (if they want to customize patrol page) are:
    - Having a list of interest boards/ sub-boards and their identifying figures of those boards/sub-boards
    - Bookmarking the customized patrol page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;boards=X
    - Changing the X-value to their interest boards/ sub-boards at specific timepoints when they want to check spam posts.
    Notes:
Users can includes multiple boards/ sub-boards in the customized patrol page
I listed a few boards/ sub-boards and their identifying numbers
    • Meta: 24
    • Bitcoin Discussion: 1
    • Altcoin Discussion: 67
    • Trading Discusion: 8
    • Gambling Discussion: 228

There are so many things to report, that you can find here: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ. Below, I only listed most common things, among which the rule #22 is the one I only learned recently.
    1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]

    2. No off-topic posts.

    Where to report?
The first thread you should think of when you want to repot spam is that one:
[CLUB] The SpamBusters! First anniversary! We made a change thank you Smiley

Please do not forget that at any time from now, you might get your reporter badge
    Seeking reporter badge images

Recent topics on Yobit spam (you don't need to create new threads)
    Spamming service massively. Please nuke!
    Massive spam bot attack underway
Spam, abuse of multi accounts, account farming

    Some other tools

Since 30 July 2019, I made my name here, as a self-made Hero Member. It means that the merit system takes me 3.5 months to move from Senior Member to Hero Member.

Especially, I am thankful to these three following users:
    (1) @actmyname: who gave me 14 merits in his merit contests, that motivated me and gave me a strong belief that merit system is a fair one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3046992.msg31398113#msg31398113
    (2) @LoyceV: who gave me merit data dumps every week (he dumped the first dataset when I repeatedly asked for help, over weeks). He somehow help me to build up my career here with data analyses.

    (3) @TMAN: who gave me his generous hands.

I registered the account on November 08, 2017, and when merit system began with new rank requirements, I was a Junior Member.

Some of you are right that I should make this thread when I already rank up to Hero Member.
I thought of it previously, but I think that why do I have to share my journey, two or three months later? Because the earlier I share it, the earlier others whom still stucked with their dissapointment, might be motivated from my thread. Then, they can save their two or three months of dissapointments and do nothing. Instead, they will use those months to improve themselves. I do think it is better for them.

With challenges from merit system and new rank requirements, they all took me more than one year to reach the Full Member rank, on December 13, 2018; a little more than one year since my register day.

My second achievement is the Senior member rank, that I achieved on March 15, 2019. It means I spent around only three months to move from Full member rank to Senior Member rank. You should know that at the begin of 2019, I only wish that I will rank up to Senior Member at the end of 2019.  Smiley
My plan in the year 2019:
    - Getting promoted to a Senior member.
Congratulations myself to become a new self-made Senior Member.

Now, around 4 months later, I am on my road to the next rank, Hero Member. I strongly believe that I will hit it within the next two months. It means that I will spend around 6 months to move from Senior Member rank to Hero Member rank.

It is a brief introduction on my journey in the forum, over my last one year and more than a half.
Now, let's compare my journey to the time-required to hit each rank with the old rank requirements (before merit system started in January 2018).
Basically here is all you need :
It's between 2-3 years for Legendry as the following list shows

You can see that I spent more time to hit Full Member, and Senior Member ranks with new rank requirements, with merits, compared to old system. However, from Senior Member rank to Hero Member rank, the old system requires nearly 7 months; and I believe that I will hit Hero Member rank from Senior Member rank within less than 7 months (in fact, I made on within nearly 3.5 months). I make the comparison simply to emphasize that if you are a good poster, you can rank up at the same speed as of old system.

There is another way to observe all of my threads. It is helpful in case I lock the thread or forget to update it.
The gettopics page of the forum (you have to log in your account to see that page)

From my story, there are lots of things to learn in the forum (I actually keep learning every day); and there are also lots of things, and lots of different ways to help others (with what you have). Maintaining your positive attitude, to learn, and to help; you will rank up, gradually, and nearly effortlessly.

It is ridiculous to say you have to make efforts effortlessly, but it is fact, believe me. When time goes on, and you become a real constructive user, your posting habit changed completely, and you will be unable to make shit posts. That is why I use the term: Making efforts effortlessly!
239  Other / Meta / Assumed monthly statistics on registered accounts of bitcointalk.org (2009-2019) on: July 26, 2019, 04:47:19 AM
    ABSTRACT

    (4) 50% of those months have total monthly registered accounts above or below 10691 (the median).
    (5) The lowest and highest medians (of months for each year) found at 148 and 66895, in 2010 and 2018.
    (6) From peaks on 20/12/2017, BTC close price and monthly registered accounts decreased 91.3%, and  81%, respectively, on 15/12/2018.
    (7) Since 15/12/2018, BTC close price and monthly registered accounts increased 159%, and  7.8%, respectively, on 30/6/2019.

Statistics of user registrations on Bitcointalk 2017-2019
I assumed figures from Alex_Sr's thread are for last days of months.

Combining them, I converted dataset to use for below analysis

    Statistics:
    Mean +/- standard deviation: 22105 +/- 34025.
    Median (Interquartile range): 10691 (2611 - 24472)
    Min - max: 3 - 238433

It means 50% of months (from Nov. 2009 to June 2019) have total monthly registered accounts in the range from 2611 to 24472 (the interquatile range).
Additionally, 50% of those months have total monthly registered accounts above or below 10691 (the median).

    Statistics for year-specific months:
Let's look at median (p50) of monthly registered accounts for each year.
The lowest and highest medians found at 148 and 66895, in 2010 and 2018. You might curious that why this happened because the year 2018 is a bearish year. Digging into statistics of 2018, we will see clearly that during first 6 months, people kept creating many accounts per month, and that trend only turned into downward when bitcoin lost its support around $6,000. Maybe there were other factors, like more reports from community, scam projects stopped running their ICOs, and their bounties, KYCs required from bounty managers.

240  Other / Meta / How many posts deleted will lead to temporary ban (the first one)? on: July 23, 2019, 09:46:45 AM
I read rules that if someone violates forum rules, such as spamming that caused posts deleted by forum moderators or admins, users might get permanent bans. I think it depends on total spam posts and the rate of spamming, but not sure.
I think we all have posts deleted, because it is unavoidable thing. I would like to know for the spamming reason only, how many posts deleted before the first temp ban activated?
I meant sometimes users don't spam, but their posts deleted (due to spamming/ off-topic, pointless or low value, whatever), and if their total deleted posts hit 50, for example, will their accounts get temp bans?
    1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]

    2. No off-topic posts.
In my opinion, the first post deleted is the first warning, not the first offence. Because it warns posters that they have issues with their post quallity, and should be improved.
Staff do not want to hand out bans for unconstructive posts but if we feel that you as a user are continually making very poor or unsubstantial posts due to your paid signature the following bans will be issued:

    First offence: 7 days
    Second offence: 14 days
    Third offence: 30 days
    Fourth: Permanent ban

Your first ban is your first warning. If you have to be banned for a fourth time it is permanent and you will no longer be allowed to participate on the forum under any accounts.
