LoL

So basically, in your opinion, ASICS will continue to grow at an exponentially powerful rate until they destroy GPUs this year....and everyone who disagrees with your 'yet to be invented' phantom ASIC chip is being short-sighted.

Do you know what Bitcoin is?  Were you alive last year?

How can you act as if that is not the extremely recent history of SHA256?

I doubted that there would even be a Scrypt ASIC until 2015, but if this thing is real, then it's not good news for GPU miners.
382  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Scrypt ASIC / SHA-256 combo miners Pics details on: January 22, 2014, 09:50:03 PM
GPU's are currently more profittable and cheaper. Fact. These aren't worth it yet unless your electric rate is something like 50 cents per kwh.

FIFY

If these are real, then GPU miners will need a new algorithm to hash by the end of this year.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: January 22, 2014, 09:45:52 PM

if you don't see that you still get a significantly higher hash rate with GPU for the price of the ASIC Scrypt I don't know what to say.
Power usage savings of even 1k watts, is minimal considering the much higher hash output.

Do the math please, then really let it sink in.

I appreciate your condescension.  Let me reciprocate it.

The cost of the 3MH/s model is 11190 Chinese Yuan, or $1849.19 according to the supplier’s website.
That is currently $0.61/kH

Let’s just say you can get 280X’s left and right for $300 because you are a fucking wicked smooth barterer.  You also get 800kH/s on each card because you are a configuration specialist.  So just for the cards, you are paying $0.375/kH.  Let’s not even factor in electricity or other components you need for your rig as we all have closets full of spare computer parts to build endless rigs.  You are getting a 40% discount on hashing power with GPUs compared to an ASIC.

Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about ASICs becoming more powerful and more affordable.  That never happened with Bitcoin right?  That’s why after ASICs came out last year, they were continually outperformed by GPUs.  Oh what’s that?  That shit didn’t happen?  No fucking shit dumbass.

If there is a chip that is producing 300kH/s right now, then there will be a Scrypt ASIC chip this year that will make GPU mining ineffective for Scrypt just as last year it became ineffective for SHA256.

You can have this lesson for free.  Next time you think your math is great, you should think a little more progressively and stop being short-sighted.

Very cool.  Going to have to try this one out soon!
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: January 22, 2014, 09:27:00 PM
wow a whole 6 MHs for about $5400! What a steal! You're right, GPU Mining is so dead!

lol

If you don't see the significance of a working Scrypt ASIC then I don't know what else to say.

GPU mining is not dead, but if that ASIC is real, then it is on it's way out.
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: January 22, 2014, 08:25:56 PM
So I guess Scrypt ASICs are out... not sure how I feel about that.  Undecided

http://www.middlecoin.com/reports/1M3jtksp1upR33SX1VzeCfH5x9fc6zKykR.html

How is this proof that the scrypt ASICs are out? I am just curious. Isn't this the same person we suspected to be running a botnet or a GPU farm?

It's not proof, but it is evidence.  That and multiple sources are saying they are out, and China is selling them on Alibaba already.  The seller is not verified and I really hope it's just an elaborate scam, but if it is not then I guess I will put off building the GPU Rig I was planning for next month Sad

So this is going the same way as the USB Block Erupters then, as soon as I buy one the price immediately drops.  Roll Eyes

Hopefully you've mined the difference since then.

I got one for BTC1 in December, but have mined about .6 since then.

Edit:  nevermind... just saw that you just ordered last week.  Sucks man Sad

I have a lot of trust and have been here for a while. I would be happy to receive a lil' unit, test it, give a review, then pay full price for it.

That would be a great idea.

I'll take one, too Smiley

Steep price for a 5850... maybe I should sell off mine right now Cheesy

Expensive according to MtGox's inflated BTC price right now. I'm shooting for USD $125 at bitstamp, shipped. That's cheaper than anything at ebay right now.

You don't have to lie...

394  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: January 21, 2014, 07:44:50 PM

That seems to have done the trick however the x's have moved

ASIC_01-16: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_17-32: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_33-48: x x x x x x x x O O O O O O O O
ASIC_49-64: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_65-80: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_81-96: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O

So I re-arranged the mini blades once again and the x's moved again, so I must have a faulty mini blade now which is rather annoying!

ASIC_01-16: x x x x x x x x O O O O O O O O
ASIC_17-32: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_33-48: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_49-64: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_65-80: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O
ASIC_81-96: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O

Damn man.  Definitely looks that way Sad   That is some bad luck bro...
395  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: January 21, 2014, 06:59:35 PM
FINALLY today I received a new board via OC directly from yxt, now I've taken the old board out and put the new board in after switching over the mini blades and am trying to connect to it using 192.168.1.254:8000 but am unable to do so, I cannot even see the device anywhere in the wired devices section of my router!

Anyone got any advice on what I might be doing wrong here?? My routers subnet is 192.168.1.x

Do I have to flash this new board with some sort of firmware before I can use it to control the mini blades???

Your router isn't 192.168.1.254 is it?  That was an issue I had when initially setting mine up.

Other than that, you might have to do a factory reset... strange though that you could connect with the old cube but not with the new boards.

398  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] OpenRigs.com - Aluminium Frames for Mining Rigs on: January 20, 2014, 08:07:18 PM

We are busy finalising arrangements with a distributor in the US, but it will be significantly more expensive - LCL shipping to the US plus local carriage to the warehouse, storage costs, the distributor's profit, picking and packing fees, packaging material, and finally local shipping all need to be amortised and added as an (expensive) shipping option. It will be higher than surface mail costs, and will either meet or be a little less than EMS costs, which means 85% of our customers will disregard the option and choose the cheap one;)

Sounds like there is an opportunity for a reseller to buy in bulk from you... or, more likely, a US competitor.

Where do you get your aluminum from? Cheesy
399  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] OpenRigs.com - Aluminium Frames for Mining Rigs on: January 20, 2014, 06:02:31 PM
Ordered my package in the beginning of December and still no product arriving, anyone get anything yet?

Same here... but it's our fault for not paying extra for a different delivery method.  I didn't realize how long it would take to get from South Africa to the USA.

Mine shipped almost a month ago.  My tracking has been stuck on "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment" since Jan 9th.  Ordered on November 30th.

IMO, this looks like a good product but there are some logistic problems with shipping world wide.  You would benefit from distributors in the USA and Europe that can ship the product quickly to customers.
