1361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XRP] Ripple Speculation on: September 18, 2018, 12:54:32 PM
It amazes how people react to "news" about project updates that are promised and known loooooong loooong ago.

That means either of two things,
1) People didn't believe that Ripple would deliver their promises
2) People needed a bit of reminder that XRP is one of the best possible investments if you take into account the risk/reward ratio
1362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: September 18, 2018, 11:16:30 AM
Is it possible that Eos will be more useful then Ethereum in the near future, so many opininions about it. Just think to move on to EOS or just sty in ETH,what to do ,what to do ?

EOS has no wallet, no DEX and no approved assets in the list https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2962774.msg30426301#msg30426301

ARK > EOS in my honest opinion.
If Ethereum fails to offer what the people are hopping (but I believe some people have unrealistic hopes), I believe ARK could take its place.

Any light desktop wallet for this coin?

Everyone know what i was talking? The second market cap hasn't any light desktop wallet? are you kidding me?

Also look into ARK for that!

Can we put BCH, XEM and and ZEC out of the list please? Who are we kidding? Grin
While we're at it, we should add ARK in the list.

Have you noticed Ethereum volumen on bitfinex?
It is greater than Bitcoin volumen (!) from the last few days -now it is almost 2times bigger!.
I guess we can except something big - very interesting

That is good sign and I hope it will surpass the milestone of $300 soon but we need stability in the market for over a month. Than it will start rising so this growth will become more stronger.

That's not always a good sign. The difference between "average volume" and "high volume" is that in one case there is not any special news floating around while during big controversies we see high volumes.

Take for example the AMD stock, it has an average volume of 98,738,482 stocks while Nvidia has 9,712,550 and Google has 1,403,025. Does that make AMD 70 times better than Google? Hell no!
What it means is that Google is a steady stock which moves in slow ways, while AMD is in a constant war between bulls and bears... or rather in AMD's case right now... a war between fanboys who are overexcited bevause of some successes from AMD and realistic investors who can see the top.

In Ethereum's case there are some issues that divide the community and there's a lot of buying and selling, hence the high volume... nothing good about that!
1366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining performance of Nvidia RTX 2080 Series on: September 18, 2018, 08:43:26 AM
Not even sure what you're mad about.
We got the technical specifications and the Turing whitepaper (https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/design-visualization/technologies/turing-architecture/NVIDIA-Turing-Architecture-Whitepaper.pdf).

People with enough technical knowledge who understand the above mentioned specifications AND know how some hashing algos work, can predict the expected hashrates pretty accurately.

You can also buy the 2080 ti with BTC!
https://www.alzashop.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-xc-ultra-gaming-d5448533.htm?o=1

The price is the same as from the official EVGA shop after you calculate the cheaper shipping charge from AlzaShop.
Limit is 2 pcs / address (while EVGA's is 1 pc) and they still accept preorders (while EVGA is not taking any more preorders)

Not for USA and not all EU countries are supported.
Also note that different cards are available for different countries (I guess it depends on the available stock)

Wanna try come over our XDNA Discord channel and ask on the "Masternode-Support" channel? They're helpful and friendly people. Their masternode technology is also very unique, with different level of rewards depending on the network's strength. Nope, the public address will be different
I'll put their statement as-is in a quote,
Quote
We are using ARK public keys that are associated with your ARK public address to generate a PHANTOM based address which will receive the forked credit.
Source: https://phantom.org/2018/08/28/phantom-zinc-claim-guide%e2%80%8a-%e2%80%8aark/

In the images from the guide I linked above, it's obvious that the address has changed. In the first image you can see an ARK address starting with "A" and in the last image an address starting with "P". So the Phantom addresses will be starting with "P". Only the pass-phrase (aka private key) stays the same.

Btw if you use a Ledger Nano, don't put any key you have from your hardware Ledger there, just add the network settings for Phantom and then insert your Ledger (and maybe restart the wallet)

This phantom must be again some sort of scum?!
There is no contact email no address no names and the contact form on their website is not working!
Do they have at least BTT thread here where they can be contacted ?

That's why they're called...... PHANTOM !! Shocked

But seriously, something looks indeed fishy on their facebook page, the logo there is totally different... could there possibly be a project and the team split, with some guys having control over the Facebook page and that's why it has not been updated? The Facebook page is full of complains btw.

I have added Phantom on my Ark wallet, but do you know how can i backup the private key of this new address ?

The Phantom wallet is using the same private key as your ARK wallet, so you don't have to backup anything.
How did you add the Phantom coins in the first place? Didn't you use the ARK's private key? Well, that's the one you need to keep safe!

good, many thanks
so if i import the ark private key the Phantom address will remain the same ?

Nope, the public address will be different

cant wait for the 2080 series results  Grin
I belive that they will burn out some double MHs comared to the 1080 series

Nah... I believe it'll take a lot of time FOR US to take full advantage of these cards.
My guess is that after about a month they'll figure a way to use the tensor cores to improve the hashrate but if the gain is big enough it'll only be made available privately. The rest of us will get a miner with a dev fee like 6 months later, after enough people have managed to crack down on these cards.

An alternative scenario is that there will be no mining farms with the 20 series cards and therefore whatever miner for the 20 series is developed, it'll be available for the public. However I'm more thrilled for Ray Tracing enabled games than mining! Grin
1375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Estimated Hash Rates for the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti on: September 17, 2018, 11:26:53 AM
Note that the 110 FP16 tflops of performance of the tensor cores is in one specific operation only: 4x4 matrix multiplication and accumulate. That's all tensor cores can do. It's essentially an ASIC which is designed to take two 4x4 matrices of FP16 values and multiply them, accumulating the result into a 4x4 matrix of FP32 values. You can't use a tensor core for anything else except to do matrix multiply and accumulate.

That's why it's rated at such a high tflops number: because it's hardware has been designed to do only matrix multiply and accumulate, it has no other functional use beyond that, you can't reprogram a tensor core to perform any other operation. Think of a tensor core like an S9 ASIC, but instead of doing sha256 all it does is 4x4 matrix multiply and accumulate.

On the other hand, Xilinx logic cells can be reconfigured to perform different operations, it's completely flexible, hence VHDL/Verilog development. In fact, using something like Xilinx's SDAccel you can write a C++/OpenCL program and have it built into a bitstream to run on a Xilinx FPGA.

Oh... I see! Good explanation!
Then I guess that a specific algo has to build which would take advantage of this operation. A software developer who creates miners probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of this core for the current algos.
1376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Estimated Hash Rates for the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti on: September 17, 2018, 10:26:57 AM
I think the RTX and tensor core is much faster to Xilinx fpga .

Let me try calculate that...

For starters we ignore the RTX cores, these are doing a very specific kind of job and I don't expect them to have any use in mining.
 - The Nvidia's Tensor cores for a 2080ti have an FP16 (aka half precision) computation performance of 110 TFLOPs!
 - Xilinx most powerful FPGA can offer 10,948 GFLOPs, or almost 11 TFLOPs (source: https://www.xilinx.com/products/technology/dsp.html#solution)

Xilinx doesn't mention which model resulted in this performance, only that it's from the UltraScale+ family. The fastest available FPGA for mining is this one https://store.mineority.io/sqrl/cvp13/ which costs $6,370 before tax and if you import it in Europe.... I don't want to think about it. This FPGA miner uses the Virtex UltraScale+ VU13P.

Nvidia's Tensor cores can also offer mixed precision computation which, to be honest, I have no idea what it is, if Xilinx offers this or if it matters for mining!

So as far as pure computation performance per $ goes, the RTX 2080ti is putting everything else miles away... and people call the RTX series overpriced Roll Eyes
I wish however someone could go into more detail about how important the above numbers are and which algorithms would benefit more from this because I'm sure TFLOPs are NOT the only factor.

For comparison, 1080ti offers 13 TFLOPs FP32 (aka Single Precision), shader GPU only. I don't know if the 1080ti could compute FP16 but if it could that'd be 26 TFLOPs (double the FP32).
The 2080ti shader GPU offers 16 TFLOPs FP32 on top of the Tensor core which I mentioned above.

PS: That post took me more than half an hour to gather all these numbers from valid sources! omg Shocked
1377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining performance of Nvidia RTX 2080 Series on: September 17, 2018, 08:37:06 AM
The big breakthrough will be the usage of the huge computing power available in Tensor cores (aka the "AI cores"). AI capabilities is something CPUs, FPGAs, ASICs and other GPUs lack... it's something that will be available to everyone for a "decent" price for the first time. If the devs manage to take advantage of those cores for mining (and supposingly share it with the community) then the RTX20 series has the potential to overcome even ASICs in some algos.
At the very least, a new algo could be created that'll be benefited by AI capabilities... then again there are plans for AI ASICs but at least in this department Bitmain won't be the sole player, Intel is close to a release too.

And who cares about Ethereum anyway? Sooner or later it'll be overcome by ARK or EOS or both. As far as I can Ethereum is already behind in usability and probably technology, at least to ARK, but I'm not an expert so take my word with a grain of salt. My conclusion comes because I'm following every ARK update, most Ethereum updates and some EOS updates.

It's quite impressive how this project has evolved in just one year. And it's not only matter of professionalism. They have overcome the difficulties due to market's uncertainty and bearish trends, and also to the dominance of other altcoins, keeping to develop solutions technologically in line with those of its major competitors.

A lesson to be learned by all other altcoins, both old ones that are still in the market and upcoming ones, DO NOT FOCUS ON THE PRICE OF YOUR COIN, FOCUS ON ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS

Unless ofcourse the only goal of a project is the coin's price... in which case... I feel sorry for the people who believed in the team behind such project!

Very nice indeed. People are freaking out when they hear about "regulations" but that's because those people think of cryptocurrency as a way to get rich fast while avoiding taxation... which is stupid... but nvm...
Good regulations are helping into making cryptocoins more acceptable and reduce some kinds of risks. One big risk are all the ICOs and France seems to be working on eliminating this risk.

Since ARK has a serious team and a business entity in France, I believe the ARK's ecosystem will attract a lot of regulated ICOs which would result in a big success for ARK.

I always though we should replace Ethereum in place n.2, as times passes this seems more realistic than ever!
