1221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]XDNA-Revolution in mining|GPU ONLY HEX algo|Charity Support|NoICO|Cryptopia on: October 12, 2018, 01:05:26 PM
ASIC is a real evil for cryptoworld. Such devices kill the very idea of decentralized cryptocurrencies.

Actually it's not the devices themselves the problem, it's that they are controlled by mostly one company.

There was a time when Bitcoin was mined with CPUs and then it started being mined with GPUs, but GPU chips are manufactured by 2 companies and the rest of their parts by many other companies. They are also general purpose hardware mainly used for things-that-are-not-mining, so no single company controls their price or can cripple a coin through their hardware.

If Bitmain wanted, they could add hidden fees to their hardware like they've already done with the 12% mining rewards they burn in secret on their BCH pool (source: https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2018/04/24/bitmain-antpool-artificially-boosting-bitcoin-cash-bch-price). There are many public posts in the internet for shady business practices from them.
For that reason XDNA is fighting against ASICs, but in the end it's up to the whole community to decide if they want to support this move or not.
1222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ARK - Blockchains Interoperability with SmartBridge 🔹 ARK on Binance 🔹 on: October 12, 2018, 12:11:55 PM
This just my speculation: if xdna is a on a bridgechain, you can just setup an ACES node for xdna-ark-btc btc-ark-xdna and you should be good to go. Or maybe you can just go with sdna-btc btc-xdna

But the thing I don't understand about bridges is where does the BTC go after they're traded for XDNA? Who holds them?

i dont know what xdna is but if someone sets up an aces node to connect ARK - coinA. then coinA and ARK can exchange between each other. there is no coinB involved in the middle. only coinA and ARK. the node operator would hold a pool of coinA and ARK, and thats how encoded listeners in aces work.

Actually I found this old article: https://blog.ark.io/what-is-the-ark-smartbridge-and-how-does-it-work-1dd7fb1e17a0
From what I understand, SmartBridges are meant to be used when a blockchain has special functions like contracts or maybe a dAPP, but instead of using ETH for a contract you can use ARK. If ARK is SmartBridged with BTC then you can use BTC for an Ethereum smart contract because the connection goes like BTC-ARK-ETH.

I think the vast majority of people are going to have a lot of trouble getting any merit. Thus far, the majority of active contributors haven't received any merit. it like me.

Jeez, what a dumbass - I suspected plagiarism and, yep... turns out this post is a direct copy of one that was made earlier in this thread:

I think the vast majority of people are going to have a lot of trouble getting any merit. Thus far, the majority of active contributors haven't received any merit.

buh-bye.

What gave him/her away? The fact that the first part of the sentence was in good English and the second part made no sense? Cheesy

Hello, very good  rewards in the  bounty program  Smiley
When do you plan to charge tokens to participants?

I can answer that!

From the bottom part of the announcement: "rewards will be credited after each campaign period."
From the first part of the announcement: "Stage 1 of the Bounty Campaign lasts two weeks. There will be 14 periods in total."

This is actually the reason I want to take part in the signature campaign, since there'll be payments every 2 weeks as it seems, I don't feel locked up until May!

Shocked

[LINK] https://pxlme.me/4NdCQYAi

https://www.change.org/p/international-olympic-committee-make-xrp-the-official-cryptocurrency-of-the-tokyo-olympics-2020

Hi guys, campaign is going to last an extra 4 weeks, I'll see if I can get a budget increase.

Hi everyone, Week 9 has been paid - 918b81b3f7ebdc5d273b769214650ec950b3f5bc1975a5a6835249548c49bbbc

Unfortunately, I will be ending this campaign one week early. Sorry for the disappointment.

Does "1 week early" mean the campaign will be running for another 3 weeks instead of 4 (as per 1st qoute above), or that campaign has just ended?
The campaign would end next week actually. So 1 week early means that was the last payment.

1228  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: October 11, 2018, 08:01:49 PM
Question #1: What is bitcoin’s Mempool? What does it do, what is held there and where is it’s physical location on the network?

The bitcoin mempool is where unconfirmed Bitcoin transactions are stored.
It's a set of all all the transactions that have been broadcast but have not yet been added to a block by a miner.
Every node has its own transaction relay policy so there is no definite mempool, but different mempools for different nodes.

                            From February... really?

Hello. I find your bounty setup interesting and serious, I'll apply.
However I'd suggest you to add a link to your ANN thread if there's one, I wanted to check if your project is based on an ERC20 token or it has its own blockchain but I couldn't find your ANN thread from my phone. However I found a field in the registration form asking for an Ethereum wallet, so I got my answer! Smiley

Edit: Found the link! It was named "Bitcointalk Community", not what I was looking for!  Grin
Hello! Thank you! Note, Yes, we provide ERC20 token. Do you have any other questions? Did you join the bounty?

Well, I did sign up but I want to take part in the signature campaign. In your post I see that 16% of the allocated bounty is for the Bitcointalk forums, I suppose that means signatures, but I don't see any info about that yet.
Is it coming later?

Crypto-market is red today.. wait...

https://finviz.com/map.ashx?t=sec

You're suggesting that the fall in the US stock market is in correlating with the fall on cryptocoin? But in my logic this sell-off should have boosted cryptocoins and gold prices because the money which left the stocks should have gone somewhere. Did everything become cash? Or did the investors who withdrew money from the stocks are waiting to enter the same market?

In any case, I don't think the stock market and the blockchain's prices are correlating.
1234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ARK - Blockchains Interoperability with SmartBridge 🔹 ARK on Binance 🔹 on: October 11, 2018, 11:03:50 AM
I was wondering if it'd be possible for another blockchain project to use ARK for the purpose of instant exchange of BTC or other coins.
Actual example: Project XDNA has a page for charity donations where someone can donate cryptocurrencies for a certain cause and then track how the money is used. The only accepted coin is XDNA but on the site there'll be a plugin which will allow users to deposit any coin and it'll be automatically exchanged for XDNA.

I "know" of ARK's bridges but I don't really know how they work! So I was wondering if someone could tell me if the above example is possible.
1235  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 11, 2018, 08:31:13 AM
Guys, below 5800 will not fall. Relax.

Thanks for that.

Yes, thanks for that indeed! I didn't expect Google's stock to fall bellow 1100$ either but here it is.... just what the h*** happened with everything yesterday? Did every investor liquefied their investments of every aspect?
Cryptocoins are down... Stocks are down... Gold is flat... I was expecting a fall in the stock market which is why I was slowly putting my money in cryptocoins since this summer, but I didn't expect Google, Nvidia and all coins to fall that much.
1236  Other / Meta / Re: [MERIT][NSFN] We're destroying more merits than we're sending. Like, way more. on: October 10, 2018, 09:27:39 AM
Is there any actual benefit to merits? Do higher merited users get more features?

No man, no extra benefits, the only benefit is that it allows you to rank up. The side effect is that you build kind of reputation of non-shitposter as the spam is a big issue nowadays.
You can quick look here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2534500.msg25841174#post_guide_merit
Check Extra info links too.

Actually the fact that you can wear more complex signatures is something you'd call it extra feature/benefit.
Newbies can't wear signatures at all
Jr Members (30 activity + 1 merit) can wear a short signature without links, special characters and colorful text.
Members (60 activity + 10 merits) can have longer signatures with links and special characters, but no colors.
Full Member (120 activity + 100 merits) can have even longer signatures and colorful text. They can also add an avatar.

I think the only difference above Full Member rank is the longer text allowed in the signature, nothing else.

Now if you're really a newbie here, you might wonder why people are trying to cheat the system just for a better signature. That's because our beloved ICO scams are distributing 0-value tokens to forums users who are posting (spamming?) in the forums with an advertising signature.

There are also legit projects though, but those few legit ones will filter the users manually and select only those with good history. The merits earned are an important factor for the filtering.

Aaaaand a question: What does "nuke" mean? I noticed the stats are mentioning "bans and nukes".

Very bad distribution of the campaign... 60% (30+30) to social media Facebook and Twitter... So most of the rewards will go to bot users.
I've lost any interest.

1239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CROWDSALE FINISHED] Blockport: The first social crypto exchange on: October 09, 2018, 02:17:00 PM
Weekly newsletter:

In the spirit of community-accountability, here’s your weekly dose of Blockport updates.

First things first, we’re happy to announce that Blockport’s own utility token, BPT, is now live and officially available for trading on our platform! This means that all Blockport users will be able to start trading BPT for BTC on our exchange. Read more about the BPT listing here.

Apart from that, we’ve been working on the following:

  • Refining and developing BPT’s utility for discounted trading fees.

Improving the platform’s trade order system, making the order-execution faster and safer for our users.

Building additional infrastructure that allows us to integrate with multiple exchanges in a faster, more efficient, and more robust way.

We have been testing crypto deposits on the platform, isolated to Bitcoin within our test environment (for now).

Improvements to the trade order form so that it will be easier to understand for novice users.

We revisited the copy (text) of our onboarding flow. It will soon include proper explanations of why we need certain things that we ask for (like ID and address), and guide users to their first trade once they’re in the app.

On a non-technical front, we have been preparing for our next community meetup, set for the 23rd of November. Find out more about our next event, hosted in Amsterdam, here.

We have held another biweekly AMA session where our CTO Zowie and DevOps Engineer Maksym answered all of your questions. Have a look at the results here.

Our community contest of September has ended. Congratulations to Andy for winning the first prize with his article on “trading do’s and don'ts”, where he outlines the differences between trading and investing. Read his blog article here.

In the upcoming week, we’re planning to:

Work further on finalizing BPT’s utility on the Blockport platform, with an emphasis on discounted trading fees.

Apart from KuCoin, we're also finalizing testing of the EOS trading pairs of Bitfinex. Expect an update next week.

We will kick-start the development of the fiat-withdrawal process. This will enable our users to withdraw Euros from our platform.

Work on implementing the new onboarding improvements which we have been validating over the past couple of weeks.

As always, feel free to engage with us in Telegram if you have any questions, comments, or suggestion!

PS: If you’re looking to get started with trading on Blockport, we’re currently charging no deposit fees whatsoever. Not a bad time to get started, wouldn’t you say? Start trading now.

    Until next week!

    Kai Bennink

    Founder & Chief Strategy

Please don't hurry with the development, I'm still building up my investment in your project! Grin
I only wish you could do things easier for new coins to be listed, I noticed that even if a project wins the listing poll they'll still have to pay a high fee.

PS: I intentionally quoted the whole post because it deserves to be on the top of the new page.
