A self-moderated thread about religion, this sounds swell.

I prefer self-moderated thread to counter thread hijacking.

Well , self moderated threads are great when you are trying to stay on topic , when discussing your product or website or idea.

But a theory or opinion should not really be self moderated. This means he can delete any post that goes against his point and the small banner showing that this is self moderated makes any argument he makes pointless , because any valid counter-argument has been deleted.
1062  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: June 02, 2014, 03:06:43 PM
These results are surprising.

Chrome was an obvious winner , but on a Bitcoin forum I'd have expected that more people would use Tor than IE...

The tor users are surprisingly low , especially when you consider that most Bitcoin users are really into anonymity.
1063  Other / New forum software / Re: What is getting carried over to the new Bitcoin forum? on: June 02, 2014, 01:29:18 PM
I imagine all of this stuff would be carried over, but I guess clarification is needed.

Also what about activity and membergroups? Will they still be the same?

I was thinking all of this should be carried over minus report percentage thats not important but banned accounts, trust, posts and login time is very important.

Login time is very important ?

I'd say reported percentage gives an idea of who the better reporter is and more so , it incentivises reporting , even with just a number , it is pretty effective.

On the other hand , login time does nothing except provides another stat for people to spam on the off-topic subforums
1064  Other / New forum software / Re: Reducing miscateogrized posts on: June 02, 2014, 01:24:12 PM
Alternatively , and much more feasibly , just have an admin/mod put a flowchart  in the Meta forums.

Most posters who really have something to say try their best to find the appropriate subforum.

A flowchart guide or even more simply , a list of all subforums and a short description would take a short time to make and would save a lot of moderating time.
1065  Other / New forum software / Re: Lending section: Sorting out users with a negative rating on: June 02, 2014, 01:21:06 PM
i believe it would be best if any scammer just says clearly that he wants to scam.
the forum could have a checkbox like "only show non-scammer threads" which hides the scammers.

hint: trust ratings are easily abused Wink
Yeah, that would be the best option, and set a fat clear SCAMMER tag above they'r heads if you do choose to show them, so you won't make horrible mistakes Tongue

So , I go around offering a few microloans , end up with a couple of trust points and then I can insta-ban someone from the Lending forum ?

This will give huge power. The trust system is a guideline , not a true indicator as trust can be bought quite easily
1066  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it my imagination or does Bitcoin tend to gravitate towards $666 on: June 02, 2014, 02:20:14 AM
I'm sure we'll be trying to pin the price to $1,337 when we get there.
Everybody likes certain numbers Grin

1000$ is a more likely point.
It had dropped to around 650$ the last time it hit 1000$ and then started to stabilize at 700-800$
1067  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will the next bubble start? on: June 01, 2014, 07:04:24 PM
Where the price will finally stabilize is anyone guess.

Finally stabilize? LOL

Certainly not within the next few years and certainly not in mere triple digits.

We've barely moved from the innovator stage to the early adopter stage.

While some bagholders desperately hope for lower BTC prices to dump their fiat, they're deluding themselves with their pipedreams of sub-$400 coins.

The biggest mistake a noob can make is to treat Bitcoin as if it were stock in a company or some kind of investment vehicle. Save that for things like the Winklevoss ETF.

Bitcoin is a protocol, and an open-source, peer-to-peer, cryptographically secure one at that. Don't compare it to stocks, bonds or forex. Compare it to the early days of TCP/IP.

I know that the Bitcoin protocol is the future and not many released altcoins have had better fundamentals.
The only reason I can see for Bitcoin to drop is if a new cryptocurrency is innovative.

I mean innovative as the new currency x being to Bitcoin as Bitcoin is to centralized yet anonymous digital currencies.

I don't see that happening right now , but in a couple years , what if it supercedes BTC ?

1068  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will the next bubble start? on: June 01, 2014, 07:01:24 PM
Seems like we're entering the bear trap now

4200 CNY was the price at which it started dropping.
Coincidence ? I think not.

I think it will end up over 1k$ but under 2k$ by the end of this year , I guess mostly around 1500$

1069  Other / Meta / Re: If each user had a total % of forum posts read indicator .... on: June 01, 2014, 06:47:46 PM
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised I'm not on that list from all the lurking. Any chance you could check my profile for this bit of information?

You've read 5194 unique topics. To get into the top 200, you need ~8500.

It'd be kind of cool to make this stat available all the time, but it'd immediately become worthless because it's so easy to artificially inflate...

Ye more stats would be good what ever stats we have would be better if they were public.

I wonder if theymos would be annoyed if everyone started asking for their individual stats.
Maybe it could be added with an asterisk or something saying 'Warning : Not an actual indicator of forum activity' or something ?
Without anyone knowing it , it seems to be a pretty good indicator.

Lurker status confirmed.

You can use a more positive term , since you are a global moderator.

You are not that creepy lurker who knows what everyone is saying at all times while never uttering a word, but the benevolent overseer who keeps peace across the forums , the silent guy with the banhammer.

I wonder how he deviated so much from his father.
He hasn't.

Exactly.
He isn't that much different from Ron, in my opinion.
In fact, Ron Paul was more hardline on national defense, abortion and the like.
His post 9/11 positions were hardly a good defense of civil liberties
1071  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Favorite political figure? on: June 01, 2014, 06:32:47 PM
How about this man ? :-

Muhammad Ali  was a professional boxer ,he showed world-class genius in every stage of his career: intrapersonal genius -his ability to motivate himself; interpersonal genius -his ability to communicate and socialize; physical genius -do I need to explain; and of course, mathematical genius. Ali’s genius in strategy and tactics – to me, is mathematical....so if he wouldn't have been an professional boxer probably he would've been and great political figure.

With Muhammad Ali, I think he earned a lot of the aura around him through his rebellious attitude. His courage in shunning his accolades for the civil rights movement was what was commendable. Not sure how successful he would have been as a political figure though, assuming we're talking about leaders here
1072  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Husband of Pakistani Stoning Victim: I Killed My First Wife to Marry Her (Video) on: June 01, 2014, 06:19:00 PM
Pakistan really rocks!

Pakistan police call Farzana Parveen’s stoning a ‘routine murder’

http://www.news.com.au/world/pakistan-police-call-farzana-parveens-stoning-a-routine-murder/story-fndir2ev-1226938644504

Police in South Asia are known for their PR disasters really. Their original intentions are usually lost in translation as well. I think they weren't trying to undermine the killing, they were only talking about the frequent nature. That said, in a majority of cases, the police there is complicit in a number of crimes and to an extent, they seem to treat honour killings as familial issues rather than ones the state should intervene in, and this is a failure of the government machinery itself.
1073  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: June 01, 2014, 06:15:12 PM
Very interesting bet.

Would it be considered cheating to ask exactly how many of those were 49.5%?  Grin

Not at all!  Wink

357,937,388 were at 49.5%

Of those:

175,833,708 had positive profit
179,380,878 had negative profit
2,722,802 had zero profit (and so I can't immediately tell if they won or lost, being 0 BTC bets)

>>> 175833708 * 100.00 / (175833708 + 179380878) = 49.5007

49.5007% of the non-zero bets at 49.5% won!

so martingale is a fail Tongue

Wow , that seems really accurate to the odds.

Mathematically , what would the average error % of the odds be ? That seems too close to the given odds to be true.
1074  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Snowden should 'man-up' and face trial: says SOS John Kerry on: June 01, 2014, 06:12:32 PM
Opinions on Rand Paul?
I'd probably vote for him this time around

The Libertarian party quite effectively summed up Rand Paul when they said he betrayed the core libertarian principles. There's a reason Paul caucuses with the GOP. His so called social libertarian positions (as far as marijuana is concerned) are only a compromise to pander to the younger GOP support base. In reality, he's far from libertarian views on society, and his views on same-sex marriage prove it.
1075  Bitcoin / Electrum / How do I take a backup of my electrum wallet ? on: June 01, 2014, 05:59:34 PM
I want it to be such that if my computer gets destroyed , I can have a copy stored on cloud storage.
But this would need to be such that it could be encrypted with a simple password.

Any ideas or guide links ?
Thanks,
Jambola2

I tried using it but it links to a chain of random pages.

Does this work for anybody else or is it down ?
1077  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★☆★FREE CHIPS FOR EVERYONE!! & WIN BTC. NEW MULTIPLAYER POKER IS HERE!!! ★☆★ on: June 01, 2014, 05:26:05 PM
This website seems similar to something else...

I decided to do a comparison.

The whois info showed that this and one other gambling website are the only two Bitcoin gambling sites (that I know of ) to use the same anonymous website registration proxy.
I compared their posts and their formatting is really really similar.
Yes , it is RitzGrandCasino.
Comparing even their names , their style is distincly similar. Their formatting on their post is extremely similar , with stars in the post name all caps free giveaway info and a habit to write "PLUS" in bold.
They post their website link over and over in the intro post

This is no true evidence , but I believe they are the same person.

1078  Economy / Trading Discussion / Which method can I use to effectively convert fiat to Bitcoin in my scenario ? on: June 01, 2014, 05:14:45 PM
I'm currently in Dubai and have been trying to convince some of my friends to buy BTC.

I've gotten some attention but most of them are asking me for Bitcoin for physical fiat (the currency is AED)
I can decline and tell them to just try to buy it online , but I'd rather help them.
How can I do this ? How exactly can I purchase Bitcoins in Dubai , with fiat ?

Any suggestions ? There are no great offers on localbitcoin either , most have really high fees as compared to current USD cost.
1079  Economy / Services / Re: Selling my signature [Lifetime for 1.5 BTC] or [1 Year for 1BTC] on: June 01, 2014, 04:56:37 PM
How much money exactly do you need and how soon ?
That information would help more.

Can you deal with 0.8 BTC ? Is it for rent or irl expenses or do you need anonymity on this topic?

How fast do you need it , ie , is it a real life crisis that needs it immediately ? If so , how much time do you have ?
1080  Other / Off-topic / Re: Meta Space Glasses Pro vs Google Glasses on: June 01, 2014, 11:48:51 AM
Google Glasses any day.

Firstly , the Google glasses cost less than half of these and that is only the dev edition.
The consumer edition is planned to start at way lower prices.

I don't really want to cover most of my field of vision , I want to be able to walk around , see normally and also have a nice side smart computer in my glasses that can help me. Meta Space Glasses cover too much and would probably not be safe for using on the move. The Google glass has shade implants and corrective lens implants are in development ! This will make it a near invisible computer which will be on the corner of your normal looking glasses , while Meta Space Glasses will be larger, bulkier and will have to be worn seperately.

What they don't seem to get correctly is , I don't want to mine alt-coins when I'm out nor play hard core video games. I want a simple , light device that can help me while not making my wallet too light.
