Due to community request, Maxcoin is halving their rewards in a few days:
http://pastebin.com/tKMFUtC4

The developers decided to take this action nearly 11 months early in order to keep up community support.

If a coin that had planned to release a total of 250 million coins can permanently reduce that number to 106 million to keep their community strong, I do not see any reason a coin with over 10 billion would not do the same thing to keep our coin viable.
1603  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Amagi Metals - Best Prices of Gold, Silver, & Platinum for Bitcoins on: March 20, 2014, 01:20:02 AM
Amagi,

I placed an order of about $26,000 when I called and asked for any sort of discount they offered me none. I remember you guys said you would take care of us especially for large orders, can you provide any sort of discount?

If so who should I ask for when I call?

Thanks

that is a large order?

Yes.

And when have we said we are not touching the code?

The only thing we've changed our official position on was ASIC resistance (since ASICs are an evolutionary step forward).

and YES.  We are developing, but only one person reached out to us to help develop the next version of Earthcoin (Linki) and he is a good programmer but new to crypto, so he is learning as he goes.  If you want to see dev happen faster, please feel free to make an introduction to some other experienced dev who is willing to put aside work on their own coin to work on Earthcoin.  We would love that intro and have a bounty ready for them.

Normally, I try to not be involved in day to day workings in the crypto community outside of mining and financial support.
That said, I know of a person here in St. Louis, MO (USA) that has (and still working on) developed a coin with hopes of mass adoption in the local business arena. He is a bit reclusive, but I was promised a meeting with him to see his setup (as I am setting up my own mining farm). I do not know if he would have any interest in taking on this kind of project, but I'd be willing to ask if the EAC community/devs would like for me to do so.

Some good discussion taking place now.

Yes, I'm enjoying reading as well. People just need to read the facts from the posts and ignore the tone, then it will get even better.

Why should I use EAC when I can use innovative coins like Blackcoin or Darkcoin?

EAC is far ahead of those coins in terms of usability and adoption, so far.
Yes, it is.
One thing EAC has going is amazing community support.
Earthazaar is becoming one of my favorite websites!

In an unrelated note, coinex has been robbed, and the EAC is being unloaded on cryptsy.

Is this true?
I have not been keeping up.
Anybody know the truth to this???
1608  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wanna hear a funny story? on: March 18, 2014, 03:40:44 AM
So I'm a current sophomore in high school and in one of my classes we had to give a speech. It was supposed to be around 1:30 long and be a quote and explanation on something we enjoy and like to do. Well being that I already gave a speech about computers and my interest in them (achieving 2 MTA certs and 1 ACA cert) I decided to do mine on none other then Bitcoin! So again the length requirement was 1:30 and I ended up giving the longest speech that teacher has ever been given in all of his Public Speaking classes. I gave a whopping 3:48 speech on just straight basics of Bitcoin. As if I wasn't standing in the front of the class I then ended up answering another 15 minutes of questions about Bitcoin because a majority of the kids were quite confused! I ended up pretty much explaining how I ended up getting the little Bitcoin I worked up to after 6 months! When it ended most of the kids still didn't know what Bitcoin was but just know its a currency backed by nothing that's worth a whole lot of money! They also think I'm a drug dealer now because of how I mentioned the anonymity of it. And to top it off the kid that was unprepared to go next thanked me very deeply for taking up the rest of the class period! Just thought I would share that with my fellow Bitcoin fanatics out there! Thanks!  Tongue

Amazing, a high school kid posted the same story last week and got some btc donations.

what would immensly help is something that other sites will talk about and will renew interest in eac.

I suggest switching to proof of stake asap.

then implement 25% interest in the first year, then 20% next year and so on. this will people want to HOLD eac.

right now nobody in their right mind holds this coin.

with proof of stake, it would finally resonate with the "protect nature crowd", it will stop multipools raping the coin and news sites would support that step and report it.

it is only natural for "earth"coin to use POS since it is so power saving.  hell, make an 40% interest in the first year, but reward people who HOLD the coin, not those who multipool it

do this, even announce this, and EAC will rise tenfold in mere days.

Interested in hearing other people's opinions on this.

I think this is brilliant idea.

further , or we could do a snapshot just like pts. For whoever own 1 EAC right now, will get 10 (156/15)EAC. mine all of EAC out and distribute to EAC holders.  You know C2? they are listed on bter within one week. we should learn from them.       We already have nothing to lose.

but, i bet the dev team will ignore us just like always because they are born to be losers.  If they have another chance, they will make some other kind of stupid mistake. and fail again.

This is a perfect example of 'Short-term' thinking to artificially prop the price up so speculators can profit. The 'soup du jour' in crypto launches recently has been this POS style, and initially the price skyrockets, allowing the Dev's to unload at artificially high prices created by the speculators who are CERTAIN that the 'new Gimmick Coin' is the way to go!

Are we just chasing the latest 'fad' in order to spike the EAC price temporarily to the profit of a few? What happens when the 'newer' coins that come around next month create a 'better' way than POS and we see their launches go up several fold in the first day, do we then change from POS to the newest trend and issue another press release? Are we resigning ourselves to just be a continual pump-n-dump scheme just to make you maniac day-traders happy?

"You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

Or should we focus on long-term development and real world applications in order to allow the price to rise, slowly but surely, over the Long run, rewarding ALL EarthCoin holders?

Is it really different this time? This NEW FAD COIN IS THE WAY TO GO!! LOOK IT WENT UP 500% in one day! If EarthCoin only switched it's purpose weekly to copy the current fad we would all be rich! Right?

So Earthcoin announces it is switching it's code to POS with a novel Press Release, speculators pile in and manipulate the price upwards temporarily, only to see it crash back down to an even a lower price once the rush is over? Do you see MINTCOIN's dev offering any viable long-term creative solutions to further user adoption of his coin? Is he actively promoting and creating long-term value for the coin, or is the promise of 20% more coins a year enough to keep everyone from selling if there are no Real World Applications for your coins? I think it likely most of the 'Devs' of these new coins sell out as soon as they start seeing $20,000+ sitting in their wallet, and are pretty much done with the 'development' coin, having made their 'quick buck'. Just being POS in itself is not worth anything without the proper support & development by Dev's with vision.

What makes POS so much better than Earthcoins current model? Is 20% a year to hoard your Coins and then paying 'interest' in more coins to dilute your holdings further really that great? You truly think for a 'currency' to succeed you should attempt to incentivize your coinholders to just hoard them away and forget about them, knowing they get 20% interest a year? Furthermore, what is 20% interest worth annually when MINTcoin goes down to 5 satoshi? Will your extra 1 coin per year feel all that fantastic for letting your coins sit idle for a year?

POS, while an interesting approach and change of pace from the BTC style models, is not necessary for Earthcoin. It may be great for a commodity, but for an internet currency I think the holders need to be creative in the utility and promotion of the coin. An ALT COIN will only gain in value if it is increasingly used for REAL WORLD commerce, transactions, money transfers, etc. We need to work on giveaways and increased merchant adoption, increasing the 'buzz' around the coin with novel actions that create naturally positive press, etc. Think about DogeCoin sponsoring the Jamacian bob-sled team, that did WAY more for DogeCoin than switching to the latest fad would have.

I think those clamoring for a 'switch' to POS are not seeing the forest for the trees here. The key to having EarthCoin rise is through dedicated work/promotion by the community, valuable insight and leadership by those in position to do so, and creating more & more ways to use EarthCoin in real-world commerce while increasing user adoption.

Also, a SUSTAINABLE price rise happens slowly over time, with jumps here and there along the steady upward climb. Nothing worth doing was ever easy, and anyone who has started a business that became successful understands that it takes Blood, Sweat & Tears to reach your goals. There is no short-cut, there is no 'get-rich-quick' gimmick that will make us all rich with a single press release, and POS is no magical solution.

Every time you write something I want to be more involved with Earthcoin.

I like this thread. It really shows how much room we still have to grow. We have not come remotely close to the peak.
This truly is the ground floor of something special with btc.

Hello EarthCoin Community,

I thought I would lighten up the mood in here with some 'light-hearted' research.

I just did a Google news search for 'bitcoin' and only found articles pretty much slamming bitcoin, including the famous Warren Buffett showing a profound ignorance of how Bitcoin works, comparing it to a check or money order  Huh

Naysayers included: Goldman Sachs, MarketWatch, The Economist, Etc.

Thoughts.

Bitcoin has an $8 BILLION USD market capitalization at current prices. For comparison, Darden Restaurants (Ticker: DRI) has a 6.5 Billion Market Cap.

"Darden Restaurants, Inc. is a full service restaurant company. As of May 26, 2013, the Company operated through subsidiaries 2,138 restaurants in the United States and Canada. In the United States, it operated 2,105 restaurants in all 50 states, including 822 Olive Garden, 678 Red Lobster, 430 LongHorn Steakhouse, 49 The Capital Grille, 44 Yard House, 33 Bahama Breeze, 31 Seasons 52, nine Eddie V's Prime Seafood, six test synergy restaurants (which house both a Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurant in the same building) and three Wildfish Seafood Grille restaurants."

Darden is a Cashflow Machine.

BitCoin is 23% Larger in 'Cumulative Value' 'Market Capitalization' or simply (# of Bitcoins x Current Bitcoin Price)

When the collective world puts $8 Billion behind something, it is usually for a legitimate reason. Not to mention that BitCoin investors are much more intelligent, wealthy, and technologically sophisticated than the 'average' person reading the main-stream 'news'.

While reading these articles about the 'Doom' of BitCoin and it's subsidiaries, I could not help thinking:

1) People still don't understand the technology. I would wager that <0.5% Of the US population could get even close to explaining BitCoin. What will BitCoin (& many Alt. Coins by default) price look like when ~ 5% of the population understands BitCoin?

2) The Major players who have the most to lose, such as Big Banks, Governments, Money Exchanges (Paypal, American Express, Etc.) are frightened to death of BitCoin. They can see the potential, but they are not smart enough to profit off of the movement. So they seek to destroy it with falsehoods and mass-media bashing when shown the golden opportunity with the Mt. Gox debacle.

In Addition, BitCoin prices have been hanging very strong in the face of this wave of negativity, having recovered strongly from the Mt. Gox issue and showing surprising strength IMO. You have to remember that when corporations (Who nearly control everything in the USA) have MASSIVE amounts of money to lose, they will respond like any self-sustaining organism, and defend themselves vigorously, often times in deceitful, underhanded and maniacal ways.

The BitCoin owners aren't buying it. They are in fact buying more BitCoin, and spending them increasingly in interesting ways. They are smart enough to see through the irrelevant smear campaign. This IS the Internet of Currency.

"In addition, some A-level venture capitalists are funding a number of companies that will raise the level of the game"

How does this relate to Earthcoin? You can almost certainly view Earthcoin as a highly leveraged play on BitCoin. It even has a way cooler name & design. Need I mention transaction times? I can buy a cup of coffee with EarthCoin - How long does 'BitCoin' take to confirm a transaction again?

So if BitCoin gets running again on 'speculation', increased merchant adoption, etc. You will see Earthcoin rise in a % that is 3-10x BTC IMO.

The one positive article I found about BitCoin mentioned how despite all the nay-saying, merchant adoption is clearly on the rise. (http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/2014/0313/Bitcoin-why-businesses-are-buying-in-despite-critics-and-start-up-woes-video)

"In particular, new businesses whose profit margins are often razor-thin in their debut years are thrilled at having an option to avoid the 3 percent fees they must pay to credit card companies, on average. And if they can be seen riding the hottest new pop culture wave while they do it, so much the better."

"The retail website Overstock.com recently began accepting the digital currency and is currently taking in about $30,000 per day using Bitcoin – about 1 percent of its roughly $3.6 million daily sales, according to TechCrunch. TechCrunch, which is devoted to analyzing start-up technology, estimates that Overstock will push that number to six figures by the 2014 holidays."

"Across the Deep South, where the tea party has strong roots, there is a growing acceptance of Bitcoin “as a way to get the Federal Reserve out of banking,” he says."

"Many of the doctors he advises across the region who have had a growing number of uninsured cash patients are turning to Bitcoin."

There is good reason to still believe in BitCoin, and if you believe in BitCoin, you should believe TENFOLD in EarthCoin.

If I looked at the information correctly, It appears that we currently have ~1.8 Billion EarthCoins created at this time. Does that mean that you can own 1% of the Float with 18 Million Earthcoins in your wallet?

If that is true, that is awesome. I am getting closer to my near-term goal. I invite any of the true believers in the Earthcoin community to buy 1% of the Float at current prices and refuse to sell for a 1 month time period. If 50 people joined that challenge, for a mere $2000, they would own more of this 'fledgling, high-tech, growth currency' than they could ever dream of owning in the equivalent equity of a start-up tech company. I also would bet my Silver that in 1 Months time you will be looking at significantly higher prices.

By locking up 50% of the float into strong, dedicated hands, we would essentially guarantee our own profits. If supply was cut in half, and demand stays the same, what happens to price? We can control our own destiny. The more Earthcoins you own, the more you begin to control the trading price.

Miners, you can turn your machines back to the 'ON' button for Earthcoin. I am going to making things a little more interesting over at Earthazaar.com in the next couple days, so stay tuned. You are welcome to hedge/ lock in profit on your mining proceeds with my physical silver Bullion coins when the price makes sense to do so. Why bother switching from coin to coin like some scatter brained maniac? Just focus your bots on Earthcoin and cash out some of your earnings in Physical Silver Bullion when the EAC price makes financial sense to do so.

What a wonderful day to be on Mother EarthCoin. A new era has dawned.

Well written. I cannot think of a better representative of the Earthcoin community.

I'm wondering how this can be profitable when at the moment on a multicoin pool at 2mh you only make 0.012021923 per day, at 0.012 btc per mh per 24h that's a 50% loss

True, as it stands, a person would make more coins by using that btc to just buy the coins on an exchange. Only time people would do this is when there is a new coin coming out and they want to mine it, hoping for nice returns in the future.
