The 5970s have a rear exhaust right? Which way is the box fan pointed?

they are in the correct direction relative to fan

I'm very interested in this item, but I have no clue on how to decipher how much it actually costs, or how to even buy one. Maybe someone here can sell one to me?

WOW. Somebody gotta try this mofo out.

This can solve all my problems LOL. Screw the extenders !

How much does it cost ? Can it be trusted ?

We need some Chinese people here to help us translate !

As far as I can see it costs about 150 GBP shipped to the UK which is quite nice but I don't think it will work without many stales or something.

Someone needs to try it out for us if possible.

It's just a fancy powered pci-e extender, I highly doubt stales will even be a factor. It'll be great for those snagging single gpu cards, but those using dual gpu cards likely will just stick to pci-e ribbon cables since most reliable boards have 4 or more pci-e slots.

1844  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: *Catalyst 12.1 Preview* Decreased performance, anyone else confirm? on: January 14, 2012, 03:54:24 AM
im running 11.12 and sdk 2.1 right now no cpu bug i uninstalled the new sdk and installed 2.1 no problems now.  The sdk should not affect games mine play fine i dont play bf3 best thing you can do it try it and see.

How the heck are you running guiminer with sdk 2.1? Whenever I run guiminer with sdk 2.1 I get an error saying no opencl devices are installed. I keep seeing really good hashrates with 2.1 but I really want to use guiminer too and you somehow managed it.

show me a screenshot of your gpu caps viewer of the opencl page while guiminer is mining. you say you uninstalled your previous sdk, but thats kind of suspicious seeing that almost all posts concerning 2.1 sdk + guiminer says it wont work.

EDIT: NEVER MIND! I found a way to use guiminer + 2.1 SDK. Guiminer doesn't like 2.1 SDK by itself. If you have ANOTHER sdk installed ALONG SIDE of 2.1 though, then you will have 2 opencl platforms to choose from. One of the platforms will be 2.1 and guiminer and phoenix will happily mine away faster!
1845  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 5830 Dedicated Miner Problem on: January 13, 2012, 09:11:53 AM
A:

B:
  • Install MSI Afterburner or Sapphire TRIXX for overclock control,
  • Set the memory clock to 366MHz, and overclock the core from 800MHz to something more like 950MHz-1000MHz+

C:
  • If you have ever installed 11.12 or 12.1 Catalyst drivers, follow the instructions here to remove the old OpenCL it left behind. Reinstall 11.11.

D:
  • Run the miner.cmd file. You can right-click and drag to your desktop, and create a shortcut to it
  • See 320+ MH/s

C: This is a fresh install of Windows 7, I installed 11.11 Drivers with the 2.5 SDK.

After following your steps this is what I have.
http://tigerclan.net/images/pic.png

I still am only getting a 180Mhash.

Nice non-genuine windows you have there... But FWIW, mine isn't genuine either, but windows doesn't know that. Wink Look up something called windows loader by daz

Also I saw you were using GUIMiner. Up to you, I use guiminer too with the phoenix miner and phatk2 kernel. Seems to work fine for me. My arguments supplied are rather minimal. Also using phoenix 1.7.2 (should go to 1.7.3 but lazy, havent had any connection problems either) in place of whatever phoenix is bundled with guiminer; I simply overwrote over whatever phoenix.exe and kernels were present in the guiminer folder. Here's a screenshot of my 5830 mining away along with 3 other cards. Maybe you can find your solution in the screenshot.

Apparently, the Chinese love DiabloMiner

Never mind the miner screenshot, i'm more interested in the PCI-E splitter they used! What IS that abomination? ... I want one!
1847  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AMD update kills Hash rate on: January 12, 2012, 09:01:44 PM
Just ran the AMD update.  Have 3 5850's running clocked at 900/300 1088volts and have been getting 325Mh consistently.  Now....all 3 cards are running under 250Mh.

WTF?

No need to roll back the whole driver. Run the uninstaller for Opencl only, then extract your old driver and install just the old file.

Only downside  (of it is one) is that further uninstalls and updates may fail to remove the old cl SDK unless you keep the original installation file.

Was 11.12 the introduction of 2.6? So, I would just need to extra the SDK from the 11.11 drivers?

That is what I do, I actually run the ATI installer up to the point where it extracts the files, and then I cancel. On a completely driver-free system. I would then go to the device manager, find the video card, and then install the driver manually using the path C:\ATI\Support\11-12_vista32_win7_32_dd\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF where they were extracted (or whichever version you want). That installs only the video card driver and no other stuff. Then browse your computer to C:\ATI\Support\11-6_vista32_win7_32_dd\Packages\Apps\OpenCL to install that driver's version of OpenCL. That's how you mix and match.

The ATI driver uninstaller leaves behind the newest OpenCL files, even when you choose "uninstall ALL ATI software". Follow these instructions before reinstalling: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=54693.msg651989#msg651989

I like how this post pretty much ignores my post above his only to point at another post of mine in another thread only to say the same thing on what to do.
1848  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PCI Mining on: January 12, 2012, 08:49:33 PM
Just get a PCI to PCI-E convertor, get something on the Bitcoin mining hardware list, even a 5770 is much better than any CPU and cheap at Ebay or even here where you can find some good priced graphic cards for sale.

over 1000 posts here and did not know you could do this. i can use my 6990s on a pci if i get the right adapter??? w00t!

Be wary that these pci to pci-e adapters come at around $25/each. They're great if you're into super high density miners, but like the post said above me, it would be recommended to use a powered PCI-E ribbon cable to avoid burning out any power circuitry, either on the adapter, or on the mainboard itself if you're cramming as many gpu's onto a board as you can, especially when using high-powered cards. Personally, I've been using a 5830 on one, overclocked to 1045/330 with +0.012v and haven't had any problems yet, but its not that strong of a card either compared to dual gpu cards.

1850  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Want legit 7970 testing/benchmarking and tuning for cgminer and Diablominer? on: January 11, 2012, 08:31:30 AM
BREAKING NEWS: I now have all the donations needed to grab that 7970, I should be ordering it within the next week give or take.

The last donation was big enough to help me cover that gap, and I think this wonderful person wishes to remain anonymous due to the size of the donation.

Gee, wish I got free stuff.
1851  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Overclocking 5850 on: January 11, 2012, 08:30:56 AM
be careful with msi afterburner. people say it'll fry your cards by setting the max voltage at random.

correct, and correct. rolling back your sdk to 2.5 isn't something the catalyst install manager will do, even if you fully uninstall it (the opencl dlls remain). I kept a copy of 2.5 sdk in a .rar. just unrar it to your drive that has windows installed (if you're running windows) while nothing is accessing opencl (or else you get a permissions error or something) and it should roll back to 2.5. no need to reboot.

this rar may only work with x64 versions of windows.

1853  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to check AMD Stream SDK version? on: January 11, 2012, 08:26:09 AM
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9768004/AMD-APP-SDK-v2.5.rar

Just unrar that to your C drive (it has appropriate directories if you're on an x64 windows box) while all your miners are closed and it should overwrite all open-cl related stuff to that from catalyst 11.11 which is the last driver to have 2.5 sdk.

if you need the actual versions of what you have, find a program called gpu caps viewer.
1854  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: further improved phatk OpenCL Kernel (> 4% increase) for Phoenix - 2011-12-21 on: January 11, 2012, 08:20:16 AM
So i've got cat12.1
Crossfire 6870's 1000core 600mem
Phoenix 1.7.3 And 1.7.2
Using Dia's most recent custom kernal
And it Pegs my cpu core at 100%
It also doesnt display hashrates correctly, Unless it actually is only getting 205mh/sec with
-v -k phatk AGGRESSION=12 FASTLOOP=false VECTORS2 WORKSIZE=256
-k phatk AGGRESSION=11 FASTLOOP=false VECTORS2 WORKSIZE=128
-v -k phatk AGGRESSION=12 FASTLOOP=false VECTORS2 WORKSIZE=64

It just seems to Shit all over my cards... and also Pegs my cpu core upto 100%

What the hell am i doing wrong?
Even the Default Phoenix kernal brings back the 100% cpu bug....

And yet, GUIminer Poclbm with -v -w128 -f1 gives me 298mh/sec and no cpu bug....
Really i WANT to use this kernal, But why the hell is it failing?

Poclbm is apparently Stupid Easy to use. And as such i would assume that it cannot do as much as other miners can.
So i came to Phoenix, It was either that or CG, And CG miner ALSO brings back 100%cpu usage, but atleast cg miner gives me 294mhash/sec

use aggression 10 or lower to avoid 100% cpu. you'll get about 40% cpu with 11, and 100 with 12+. 10 and lower will be maybe 4-5%
1855  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3x7970 Mining Results. on: January 10, 2012, 08:45:54 PM
Not sure if you want to do all this but.

Kill-a-watt the following:
idle w/ only one card installed
idle w/ all three cards installed
full load w/ 3 card mining @ stock
full load w/ 3 cards mining @ highest stable overclock

As far as 5970 comparison yeah AMD changed numbering scheme.  The 5000 series direct equivalent is the 5870.

5870, 6970, 7970 = highest single GPU card
5970, 6990, 7990 = dual GPU card

Still the 5970 is the king of the hill in terms of price, density, and efficiency right now so it will be an interesting comparison.

That's simple enough.

He forgot full load w/ 1 card mining at stock and another at highest overclock. This will better power numbers to work with (including the overclocked watts)

I hope a miner picked them up so we can see what they -really- do with proper dedicated miner settings (reduced memory speed, worksize/vectors, etc)
1857  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AMD update kills Hash rate on: January 06, 2012, 09:25:28 PM
its called 2.6 sdk. roll back to 2.5 and you'll get your speeds back. search the forums on how.
1858  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Which VNC program do you use? (... assuming you do) on: January 06, 2012, 09:24:57 PM
ultravnc here. works awesome for low bandwidth, broadband, and even lan with new u2 encoding + mirror driver. can play games remotely with that codec, it updates so fast
1859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pool Ops are now the Alt Currency Police on: January 06, 2012, 06:57:00 AM
Why do you assume the pool miners had anything to do with this?

Probably something along the lines of merged mining. In any case, I don't care, as long as I get my bitcoins.
1860  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ATI Radeon 5870 almost dead, it can be fixed?! on: January 06, 2012, 03:26:36 AM
Pretty much your VRM is fucked. You fed it too much volts and now its broken. Just sell it for parts and buy a new one. From a cost perspective, you're fixing the broken 5870.
