Or you can just download all previous versions straight from AMD... That's what I usually do.

http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/pages/AMDAPPSDKDownloadArchive.aspx

thing is, the 2.1 on that site comes bundled with a bunch of shit that you don't need. my link gives just 2.1, nothing else.

have you tried not running crossfire to make sure the problem is because of crossfire and not something else? I'd say take out all 7970 but one butyou have a water loop so it makes it complicated.

Just use x64 OS. Looks like you're using windows, thats fine. 11.12 or 12.1 driver, use 2.1 SDK too, its fastest with all 5xxx cards. 2.4/2.5 about 3% slower.

What SDK comes in 11.12.  I am not using an SDK currently.   I am getting around 260 m/hash per card.   I did upgrade to 64bit.

Dal

11.12 comes with 2.5 SDK (ok), or 2.6 SDK (slow and really bad), don't remember. I want to say 2.6. I use SDK interchangeably with whatever the opencl platform is called (ATI Stream, AMD APP, etc). If you can mine, you are using some sort of opencl platform (or what I call an SDK). Run GPU Caps Viewer to find out what version SDK you have installed, or if you use cgminer, there is some sort of argument you can run to show your sdk too. Regardless, you want 2.1 SDK. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9768004/ATIStreamSDK_dev.msi is the installer for 2.1 SDK. If you are truly paranoid about "omg i dont know this guy, must be a virus", here is a virustotal. https://www.virustotal.com/file/aa448734c688092349510d75350cc006fea470a4ec2bfe6c56a3e7ac31d545fb/analysis/1339811371/

Someone said they were able to achieve 1.1 memory volts. Try searching the forums for who.

Dummy plugs are weird It depends on the driver..

I am runnign a 7950 + a 5850 and my 7950 needs a dummy plug or needs to be plugged in at first or hashes suck....

12.6 beta drivers, cgminer 2.4.2, diakgcn kernel. and phatk kernel..

On my dedicated rig I am running older drivers and they do not require dummy plugs.
Rigs with mixed 7 and 5 series cards will never be optimal Sad

Not true. You can, and should, install 2.1 SDK for the 5850 to mine on, and 2.6 for the 7950. 2.1 is a completely separate OpenCL platform and installs in a completely seperate path from 2.4+. It's VLIW4 hardware (69xx) that is pretty much screwed if you want to use it with GCN hardware, since 2.4/2.5 is fastest with VLIW4, but is incompatible for GCN, and 2.6 is slow as molasses with VLIW4 but is required for GCN.
1506  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AMD update kills Hash rate on: June 16, 2012, 01:35:25 AM
Today i update the driver to 12.6 beta, remove the includet sdk and install the 2.1 sdk.
Now the prob is, that cgminer seem to work with ~350mh/s, but there are no shares at all?!?
wtf...
2.1 sdk does NOT work with the newer 12.x drivers at all. They are simply incompatible I'm afraid.

Um. I use 12.1 driver and my 2.1 SDK works just fine.
Try breaking it with 12.4 Wink

I'd rather not fix what isn't broken, unless you'd like to pay for my mining downtime.
1507  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: If no one ever knew, which I didn't. on: June 15, 2012, 06:53:51 PM
*shrug* I use 11.12 and 12.1 for all my miners and none of them need dummy plugs.

So I got 2 of these from ebay http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3354
From what I can tell, it is not bad contact between GPU and heatsink, but rather bad contact between heatpipes and the fins. I say this because the hot 5850's heatpipes are much hotter to the touch than the cooler 5850.

Did you check the fan speeds? I used to own one of those and I found that one of the fans was very slow almost to the point of seizing resulting in very high temperatures.

Fans are fine.
1509  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 0.15W SSD on: June 15, 2012, 09:28:09 AM
My rule of thumb for OCZ and other SandForce based drives: If it doesn't fail within the first month of operation, it is pretty much guaranteed to last for a long while. I have had astounding failure rates, but the ones that don't fail are awesomely fast. SandForce controllers are a whole new level of absolute shit QA testing, usually a bad drive will fail during OS install or shortly thereafter.

pretty much. have personal experience with a mushkin chronos deluxe 256gb (tier 1 sandforce based). Had random lockups/dropouts of the SSD about 3-5 times per week and only completely powering off the SSD and repowering it would cause it to re-appear. I RMA'd it for an identical model and has been rock solid for a month, no problems at all.

I wonder what that button looking thing is on the rear of the card.

Looks like an s-video port.

They don't have voltage control, so they are stuck at 1.088v, but on the plus side, they clock relatively high (1015 and 1035). Unfortunately, one of the 5850's runs about 15C hotter than the other and won't clock as high as a result. From what I can tell, it is not bad contact between GPU and heatsink, but rather bad contact between heatpipes and the fins. I say this because the hot 5850's heatpipes are much hotter to the touch than the cooler 5850.

So... I imagine there is some sort of low melting point metal that joins the heatpipes to the cooling fins. Would it be dangerous to bake the heatsink in an oven in order to reflow the contact points? If not, what temperature should I bake it and and for how long? Also, I have some 60/40 "fine electrical rosin core solder". Would it be possible to use this somehow to increase the amount of contact between the heatpipes and the fins? I don't have any other materials readily available, but I can probably go to the home depot to get something if it would be better suited.
1514  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: If no one ever knew, which I didn't. on: June 15, 2012, 08:01:48 AM
Why would you need to use a dummy plug? Drivers 11.7 and greater dont need dummy plug.
1515  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 GPU/MEM Combinations on: June 15, 2012, 07:58:14 AM
Although, one thing is for certain, lowering my two 7970's RAM voltage for the past hour and half shaved off about 11 watts from my system. There does not appear to be any issues, at least so far. In theory, the energy saved would probably be more pronounced if say a system had 8 gpus, with all things being constant, it could reduce power consumption by ~45 watts.

I am tempted to use my 6850, but doing so would significantly exceed my power supply's wattage, and its pretty cheap one too.

Edit: Cannot find the data sheets online for 7970 RAM chips "H5GQ2H24MFR"; though Google shows a pdf listing a chip of equal density running at 1.35 volts (instead of 1.6 V), yet lower in bandwidth. Wonder if 7970's RAM can be used close to such detracted specifications (just curiosity).

Running volts lower than recommended won't kill it. Worst case, you'll get artifacts/miner errors/crashes. I say keep going lower and lower until it crashes, and increase it back up til it crashes no more. Save power Smiley

1517  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mini motherboard rigs on: June 14, 2012, 07:41:25 PM
Oh, micro ATX boards. Not really worth the money since you're paying a premium for just 1 slot. Have to get a power supply, cpu, ram... plus electricity not used for the video card costs money too. Just get a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128553 for $80 which has 5 pci-e slots, or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130620 has 6, but premium price tag of $120.

Also older CPU/ram/whatever has no bearing on the capability of GPU mining, as long as you have a means of connecting a proper mining card to it. You could even use a PCI to PCI-E bridge card on an old pentium 2 computer and plug in a video card to that, and it would mine fine, granted that the power supply is strong enough on 12v to supply whatever card you're using with enough power without faltering.

If you have extra money floating around and just want to "try" stuff though, then go for it. A micro ATX board will work fine.

I have never heard of a "mini motherboard rig". Could you please provide a link as to what you are describing? I'm pretty sure you're using the wrong words.

For me, ambient is whatever the temperature is outside Tongue Outside mining rigs ftw! Free air conditioning.

If you're going to use stock core voltage (1.17v looks pretty stock to me...), crank up the core speed to increase mh/j slightly and massively increase net throughput. If you're set on those core speeds though, start reducing voltages. Using an excessive amount of voltage for any core speed is just a big waste of electricity and money.
