Hot-air, dryer room, dryer plug, right next to dryer ..... ever thought about ducting hot-air off rig into dryer air intake? Will make your dryer work less if it has temp. control, might save some pennies and when dryer isn't running re-direct or might just pipe through on its own (depends on resistance to flow).

Dryer is run on gas and 110v socket. And miners are currently serving as a space heater.
1162  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: October 10, 2012, 02:32:18 AM
I moved my rigs to the basement, decided to power them off my 250v 30A dryer socket for increased power efficieny and not needed to screw around with lower voltage and lower amperage circuits, and have since replaced my stressed evga nforce 790i sli ultra board with an msi z77a-g45.

Left rig has from bottom to top: XFX HD-585X-ZNFC (5850), SAPPHIRE 100281-3SR (5870), ASUS EAH5850 DIRECTCU/2DIS/1GD5 (5850), XFX HD-585A-ZNFC (Reference 5850), XFX HD-585X-ZNFC (5850), and GIGABYTE GV-R585OC-1GD (5850). The gigabyte's fans malfunctioned and have 2 x 80mm x 25mm fans tied onto it.
Middle rig has 4x 5970, all reference. Right rig has 4x 5870 and 2x 5970, all reference. All gpu's run at 1v except for the sapphire 5870 which is 1.05v and the Gigabyte which runs at an unknown, locked, high voltage (It's stable at 1030 MHz core).

Power supplies used are 750 watt NZXT HALE90 for the left one, Rosewill LIGHTNING 1300 watt for the middle one, and PC Power & Cooling 1KW-SR (1000 watt) for the right one. The rosewill powers one of the 5970 on the right. Power consumption is probably in the area of 2850 watts between the three (The middle one measured 985 watts when it was outside). Hashrates are 2150mhash for the left, 2854for the middle, and 2995 on the right.

Click pictures for bigger pictures.

Well I tried this method and destroyed the little PCB under the fan. Now it's super dead Smiley

Well the fan and heatsink are identical to the ones in the picture...
I tried this method and killed it even more Smiley
I don't care.... Just stating that drilling a small hole is a LOT easier Cheesy

So far you didn't show any pics of YOUR BROKEN FANS & PCB's.
Stop trolling.

I threw out all my fans that broke even more with your method. If you want to buy me a fan so I can demonstrate how fans break with your method, I'll gladly show pictures or a video of how it breaks.

got 4 5970 on windows 7 64 bit working fine.
1165  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] 1 AMD Graphics Card Crossfire Bridge on: October 07, 2012, 08:13:48 PM
I for the life of me cannot find a driver that works with my 3 reference 5870's with reference ATI BIOS (u119). Whenever I enable crossfire, I go to a black screen and nothing else happens. The monitor is still on though, it doesnt go to standby. Furthermore, the reset button on my computer doesn't reset the computer? I have to hard power off the computer either with the power switch on the power supply or hold the power button down for 5 seconds. I was able to get -some- crossfire to work, but only with 2 cards and it was glitchy, with driver 10.11 (frame counter went up by 2's in furmark so it was skipping every other frame. Was also getting texture flickering in world of warcraft)

Does anyone know what driver I should use with crossfire or tri-fire with reference 5870's? My board is an MSI x79 big bang xpower II, cpu is i7-3930k, power supply is pc power @ cooling 950w silencer mk II, and 64gb ram.

Hi. I have a gigabyte 5850 dual fan. The card works perfectly for both mining and gaming. The fans however are another story. It was either insufficient wire thickness or bad connection, but one of the fans failed to spin much at all. I thought it might've been un-lubed bearing, and I remedied that, but it still refused to spin properly when connected to the card. When connected to a separate 12v power source, both fans, connected individually, ran at expected speeds. I decided to take it off and tie on 2 x 80mm x 25mm fans to the heatsink. It cools much better now and has a similar noise level, but it now requires a 3rd slot, MAYBE a 4th, if you're putting it in a computer without risers.

Like all gigabyte nonref 5850, this is voltage locked, somewhere between 1.0875v and 1.2v. It mines with core at 1035, regardless of whatever voltage I pick.
I still have the original fans and shroud.

Not sure what to sell it for, seeing as it is functionally perfect. Even the fans change speed if you tell it to via whatever software you use for OC/fan.

You guys are asses. Jalapeno can only bitcoin mine, -nothing- else, and they aren't even available to the public yet. GPU's, motherboards, cpus, etc, have MUCH BROADER use.

Quit with the retard lowballs and make some realistic offers instead of clogging this thread with your "jokes".
1168  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3 GPU fans died on me this month. Someone please help me. :( on: October 06, 2012, 03:23:21 PM
I agree ^.. Drilling a small hole is a very easy fix.... Really easy to add more oil as needed.
How you drill?
The fan has a spindle in center. So if you drill center, then it will drill spindle also & how you put oil in it?
or have to drill near center instead of exact center?

Drill offcenter 2-3 mm VERY CAREFULLY AND LIGHTLY.
1169  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 3 GPU fans died on me this month. Someone please help me. :( on: October 05, 2012, 04:58:46 PM
DO NOT USE WD40 I read that part just now... WD40 is not a lubricant.. It's a solvent....
You have to use mineral oil. Quality Bike chain oil works great.
I drill a small hole in the center of the front of the fan...  here is a picture of a 6870 I did a while ago...

You don't have to drill hole.

And I've broke 3 fans doing exactly just that. No thanks.

Sorry to be off topic, why does every other post have a signature advertising bASIC devices? I just came from a thread on sapphire 5870 fan and there were 2 more posts there spamming bASIC. Are they offering free bASIC devices if you put their spam in your sig?
1171  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: sapphire 5870 fan problem on: October 05, 2012, 04:53:07 PM
I don't know... I'll stick with drilling a hole on the face of the fan. I broke 3 fans doing the "separation" technique. The fan didn't seperate from the motor though. The plastic mounting base separated (broke) from the PCB instead, completely destroying the fan. I realize that the only thing holding these fans together is a little thin circular plastic washer with 4 cuts into the disk in the design of a plus, so it can be inserted and bend until it reaches the divot on the axle of the fan, but some of these are just too strong and won't bend again when you try to pull the fan off.

"out there"? You're implying ASICs are already in the hands of end users and driving up difficulty? Proof please.

2 for 80?

Extreme lowball. 80 each is fair.

I have an OEM Reference Radeon HD 6950 with a successful BIOS flash to 6970 specs. It passes OCCT 3D stress perfectly with no errors. It also will not throttle if you set PowerTune to +20%, which is the normal thing to do when you unlock a 6950 to 6970.

I can sell it for ~160 USD in equivalent amount of BTC, free shipping to US48. It'll do about 394 mhash @ stock 6970 spec or 328 mhash @ 6950 spec with BIOS switch in position 2.

Ain't nobody got time for that, Ssateneth.

Takes all of 5 minutes to drill the hole, insert oil, wipe it clean, and slap a square of electrical tape on it. If 5 minutes of work is worth $75 to you, then go ahead and buy a new accelero heatsink. I'm trying to save you money, but whatever, it's your money.

Dude, where were you 3 days ago? I just bought a brand new capstone 450W for $70 from newegg and here you are selling a 650 for virtually the same price? FML

Have you tried re-lubing it? Drill a tiny hole (smallest drill bit you can find) on the face of the fan about 2-3 mm offcenter just deep enough to make a hole to the inside of the fan (any deeper and you will probably wreck it. BE GENTLE). Put some 3-in-1 oil on the hole, about 5-8 drops, clean off the excess as best as you can, and seal it with a square of electrical tape. Fan should spin like new.

Other than that, your best, and cheapest bet, is fleabay. Buying new heatsinks for those cards will probably cost more than the card itself. You can also try RMA but you won't get a 5870 back. You will likely get a low-end 7000 series like a 7850 or 7770. I heard XFX was sending 7870's for 5970's.
1179  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: MSI A75A-G35 on: September 27, 2012, 03:31:36 AM
it was causing a problem with the 6870, but yes their is an option in bios, just gotta look for it. And tes the 6530D will do about 225 - 230 mhs, but again causes problems. gonna work on this to see if I can get them all to work together.

EDIT:  would be nice to have 5 x 6870 and 1 x 6530 running on one board and only using 850w!

I have 5 5850 and 1 5870 on 1 board, it uses 755 watts A/C. /epeen
1180  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: nvidia anti aliasing issue - mining caused? on: September 27, 2012, 03:28:42 AM
Enable cleartype again. Problem solved.

Or if this is extreme aliasing, like your pixels look like they're double in size, increase your resolution. My WFP3007 dell 30" LCD has 2 native resolutions. 2560x1600 and 1280x800. If I use 1280x800 or a smaller resolution, a pixel on the computer end will take up a 2x2 square of pixels on the monitor end.
