1721  Economy / Speculation / Re: Same topic different year on: February 10, 2015, 05:35:44 PM
Two comments from a 2011 thread on the deflating of the bitcoin $32 bubble that sum up the bear v bull argument.

Bear: "To answer the question in the thread title...we're going all the way down.  There simply is no reason for bitcoins to be worth more than a $1, no reason at all. Nagle has been right.  When a bubble pops, it pops all the way, and in the case of bitcoin, there's no reason for a legitimate recovery on the horizon."

Bull: "If you can only think on short time scales, you are going to eventually get screwed in the long term. At least with bitcoin, the fluctuations are due solely to participants in the market, rather than the institutions who actually control the monetary systems across the world. Over time, stability will come. Stop asking from bitcoin what it can't give you right now. The client is still in 0.4 beta. If you want true stability, invest your money in actual bitcoin businesses rather than on casino games like bitcoinica."

Not much has changed. But while past performance is no guarantee of future success, it'd be remiss not to entertain the thought of bitcoin eventually going on another run. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested into the future ecosystem. It may be an oft mentioned meme but when the fruits of this injection come to bear we should be seeing another bull run.

Yup. And we are going to be stuck for a long while at a down price just like what happened before the first 1k rally.
1722  Economy / Speculation / Re: How Much Lower are We Going? Already at $2.25 !!! on: February 10, 2015, 05:31:56 PM
Just curious as to your thoughts on this recent decline in trading price.

Manipulated? Bound to happen, nature of Bitcoin?  Are we heading to $1.00 BTC soon  Undecided

Thanks for your insights.

SJ

I've no idea, and doubt that more than a few people really do.  I'm planning to double down one more time if we get deep into the 1.xx range and have the ammo on-line to do so.  So I kinda hope that we do but will live either way.  I would feel much better about a rally if we do get well below the bottom at $2.04 from a month ago (even though I have little interest in or knowledge of technical analysis.)

Lol. This must seem funny now for the people that are still around Smiley

1724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitoins wont transfer to bitcoin-qt wallet; no idea what to do on: February 10, 2015, 05:13:19 PM
If the address went through normally as shown in blockchain.info then dont worry, its just Bitcoin-qt is a massive pain in the ass to set. You need a lot of RAM too to not struggle while running it.
Download it and let it sync, it may take like 2 days. Open needed ports as recommended.
1725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: February 10, 2015, 05:09:34 PM
Lmao, gotta give it to the man, "Variety Jones" sounds so smooth, cool nickname, would be a good character in a tarantino movie.

Guy must be good at a variety of things. I mean even coming up with names hes quite clever: "Dread Pirate Roberts" - "Variety Jones"

Her must have had lots of time to think about those lol.
You gotta think about a cool nick name, in case you get caught you'll be world famous through it so it gotta be cool at least.
1726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's failure to scale will show the failure of decentralized systems! on: February 10, 2015, 05:07:13 PM
Its been 6 years and bitcoin has not gone mainstream..

even photo sharing apps are having more users, network effect and valuations than this..

One of the key reasons that bitcoin has not gone mainstream or it could not is because of the limit of tranactions per second and block size..

while people who want bitcoin to succeed try to innovate and take bitcoin mainstream with VISA like tps, there are people who want bitcoin to fail.

They are paid shills of central banks who want bitcoin to be as a nerd and geek money and never see the lightof mainstream adoption..

If bitcoin was a central institution, people could have raised a lot of money and could have taken it mainstream by now..

But  see how bitcoin suffers, the  core developers are saying something for  scalability while some are saying other things, and in the end what happens is nothing and bitcoin just becomes weaker and weaker..

thus bitcoin inability to scale and go mainstream is simply showing the world how decentralized systems are weak in reaching consensus and go mainsteam

If you want to start counting years at least count after the release goes official, we are still talking release candidates..
1727  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Prices Break Downward Trend And Come Back Fighting on: February 09, 2015, 04:50:51 PM
We need a support at 350 to start talking about the BTC price putting a fight for a uptrend.

When you're talking about support, what do you mean? Loads of people buying at 350? Sort of like a checkpoint

Yeah it means there are tons of buy orders at 350 so its very difficult to go lower than 350. Usually there are supports in round numbers like 100, 150, 200, 250.. .etc. If panic ensues these supports can break quick tho.
1728  Economy / Economics / Re: Total number of bitcoins. on: February 09, 2015, 04:46:05 PM
The total number of bitcoins must be:   M = (PQ) / V

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply

In 2022 90% of the bitcoins will have been mined.
Which means by 2025 price should be insanely high otherwise miners will have the shittiest incentive to keep mining.

Post it in the marketplace imo.
1730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to hedge with Bitcoin on: February 09, 2015, 04:40:51 PM
Hedging is for cunts, you are basically betting something is going to be a failure and profit for it lol.
1731  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Questions about buying BTC with Moneygram? on: February 09, 2015, 04:33:20 PM
Why do you need Moneygram to buy BTC, especially if you're using a debit card?

Just buy it at Coinbase or Circle:

https://www.coinbase.com/

https://www.circle.com/en

Fees very minimal to Virwox, and definitely nowhere close to 20%.  Also, cheaper than buying from LocalBitcoins.

Fees minimal in Virwox? just lol, they are really high, at least they where the last time I bought some from them when i needed btc quick.
And it wasnt as quick because I needed to wait to withdraw the btc anway.
1732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the elites plan when they get back from the island? on: February 09, 2015, 04:21:27 PM
It has been called a "Brave New World", among other things. Perhaps Bitcoin wealth will be used to fund a "kinder, gentler" United Nations?   Shocked
Do you think 'Satoshi' made it to the island meetings?

This seems to alike to the Bilderburg group as the article states and i do not see any good to come from that, i am not a full on conspiracy theorist but i do not believe meetings behind closed doors to a select few can have any benefit to the wider community.

Maybe i am just paranoid but history shows nothing good comes from these style meetings as they are usually set up to take more control in a centralized way.

Had the same thought surely if he is still alive he must attend and save his baby, but do we believe he is even alive or cares? last log in 2010 if i remember right.

Aha the beautiful UN created after the wars to bring peace to the world in a centralized way, that has worked out wonders.
And how do you expect to solve this?
Create a crypto currency that sends drones to spy on wealthy people that gather together?

There's nothing we can do. There will always be wealthy lucky fucks doing their snobish shit. At least with Bitcoin we know the protocol within itself cannot be altered. You cant say the same with fiat money.

1734  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hong Kong's MyCoin Disappears With Up To $387 Million on: February 09, 2015, 04:07:22 PM
Why does this keep happening to the bitcoin community? Wasn't 2014 enough of a shitty year... expecting the price to drop even lower now after this... should try and get some cheap coins after that.

Why do you expect your bitcoins to magically be safe when you give them to other people and there isn't any kind of regulation that forces them to keep them safely? it's people fault for putting their coins at exchanges. At least wait for the Winklevii one ffs.
1735  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Still confused on: February 08, 2015, 11:28:56 PM
DONT use Virwox unless you need mega quick btc for some reasons. Their fees are simply a scam.
I don't see why would you say that they are a scam, sure they have high fees but they would most likely have to deal with the risk of chargebacks with no ID verification.

It's not a scam within itself but the fees are insanely high as far as I know. But yeah i dont know any other ways to avoid ID since most sellers in Localbitcoins want to see your ID...
1736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it the right time to invest on BTC on: February 08, 2015, 11:25:55 PM
Considering this thread was made months ago... OP should be glad he didn't invest. As of investing right now, yes its good, if you think this is the bottom. Don't complain if it goes lower tho, such is live in the bitcoinland.

1738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Nigeria [interview] on: February 08, 2015, 11:21:39 PM
We need p2p exchanges and the tech needed to run wallets in the old nigerian phone and internet infrastructure.
1739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin ever goes mainstream on: February 08, 2015, 11:19:45 PM
Lets talk about this when bitcoin goes mainstream. Maybe it will take 3 more decades for that.
If it takes more than 1 decade it will mean Bitcoin failed. By 2025 it should be competing against VISA and the rest for 1st place.
1740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Permanently keeping the 1MB (anti-spam) restriction is a great idea ... on: February 08, 2015, 11:18:46 PM
Lol at thinking we can live forever with the amazingly shitty 1MB limit. Get a grip boys.
