2481  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 15, 2017, 05:42:28 PM
There is some hope that a new PR by james hilliard allows the Segwit2X code to be compatible with  BIP148.
This may mean there is no fork in August at all.

PR is here
https://github.com/btc1/bitcoin/pull/21

An explanation of the effect is here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/6hdhw4/segwit2x_about_to_become_compatible_with_bip148/dixr59j/

This.
A pretty acceptable solution seems to have come out of nowhere.

The TLDR version of this proposal is: If >=80% of miners run the BTC1 segwit2x software, Segwit will be passed. 100% compatible with BIP 148, 141, etc. Block size increase will become the can kicked down the road.

any eta on running a zen node with windows?

I'd imagine that's a pretty low priority. You might want to brush up on Linux.

I am sorry to say guys but it is not the wallets that will make the price to go to the moon but it is the increase of users.

Sure wallets help the user adaption but they are not going to bring any new users. It is the job of marketing and constant hype that encourages the others to buy our bags for higher price.  Shocked

The number of subreddit subscribers has been increasing considerably. Also, there have been several very popular youtubers who've recently spoken highly of Monero.
Even without a marketing team, word is getting out.

so who are the traders of zen/btc at bittrex?

Anyone from the general public who creates an account there.

Do we know if all the pools are using the updated software?
2486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 14, 2017, 03:24:39 AM
positive forecast released today from the ALTA report regarding Monero as a long term hold investment. Good to know that XMR will still be positively charged linguistic data sets years out. Also mentioned a solid and vibrant Monero community. Congrats...

For those who don't know, ALTA reports are put out by Cliff High of halfpasthuman.com, and are fairly expensive. He has some proprietary bot that trawls the internet to create linguistic data sets that supposedly help predict future events.
There's a summary of his latest crypto report here: https://steemit.com/crptocurrency/@dasczecher/cryptocurrency-predictions-summary-via-mresendez74725

Or here Wink:

Bitcoin:
June growth supposedly going to be a good month for bitcoin, but might be a little slower during the first 3 weeks. The months after will show some more excitement in bitcoin until they reach ultimate "catching fire" and "ignition" phase during the Fall of 2017. By march of 2018 expect the Bitcoin price to rise substantially and I mean Substantially higher!

Dash:
Is expected to "race" with ETH for "dollar gains" through June and into July. However, there is indications of some corrections along the way through the summer. Dash is expected to tag along with Ethereum though as the 2017 year progresses.

Ethereum:
June is supposedly going to be very positive for Ethereum as there might be several price "pops." It is expected that Ethereum price rises will be considered one of the symptoms of a "developing debt currencies crisis." Also, there will be a lot of tech companies and corporations investing in Ethereum as new technologies will develop around it, including Veritaseum. Ethereum is expected to rise with Bitcoin and by March 2018, should be some multiples of its current price.

LiteCoin:
Nothing exciting is expected for Litecoin over the summer months of 2017. Only until Fall of 2017 is Litecoin expected to really start shining and catching a bid along with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Monero:
"Slow and Steady" is the name of the game. Monero is expected to be considered a "steady grower" throughout 2017 and should be among the top 20 performing crypto currencies throughout the year and into 2018.

Ripple:
STAY OUT according to Webot. Ripple is not expected to perform as favorably as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or the other coins previously mentioned. It might even see some declines in its price commencing before some big shakeups within its corporate organization.

Veritaseum:
Should tag along with Ethereum as it is a derivative of Ethereum, but it is also a software technology. It should gain a rapid percent rise in price in the very near term.

Anyone running a ZenCash node - please change your reference repository and update before the 117,575 block, which will happen Tuesday midday. At this block the mandatory upgrade takes effect, it is also known as a soft fork. This is especially important for mining pool operators, solo miners, and exchanges.

The master branch at this repo is what you need to upgrade to https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/zen

This is a way to do it if you are currently running a Zen node:
Code:
cd ~/zen
## Set new Remote! This is the most important step!
git remote set-url origin https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/zen.git
## Verify if the new remote has been set to the correct _NEW_ Github!
git remote -v
## Git Pull and Compile as a normal upgrade.
git pull
./zcutil/build.sh -j$(nproc)
./src/zen-cli stop
sleep 10
./src/zend --daemon
 ## Verify if your version matches the newest release!
./src/zen-cli getinfo

If you are running a Zen wallet, you should upgrade that as well. There are binaries available for Windows and Mac for the Eleos version 0.0.7 wallet at https://github.com/zencashofficial/eleos/releases

Assistance is available:
Zen Slack - get a login at https://slackinvite.zensystem.io and the slack is at https://zencash.slack.com

2488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: It does appear.. ETH will 10 fold BTC market cap with in the year... on: June 12, 2017, 08:29:39 PM
So Ether's market cap will be 450 000 000 000$ by the end of the year?

Please explain why you think so?

While I will continue to hold BTC.. I have a feeling.. investors are going to bail on it..

It seems to me that there aren't too many people shifting large portions of their BTC to ETH. However, most new crypto investors seem to be flocking to ETH.

I've been an outside observer for a week or so, but I've recently become a ZenCash investor.

What convinced me to buy is the way the dev team has handled the recent issues. That's when you can really see how good a dev team is - how they respond to a crisis.

I'm also impressed by the recent recruitment of high level talent to assist them.

"Technically, bitcoin is strong. In the week-long picture confidently holds above the bollinger and above 70 RSI (bubble mode).

On the daytime from not pleasant I observe only divergences on RSI. For MACD is not confirmed. Everything else is good. Volumes are growing."
2491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH/btc My 2 cents ? on: June 11, 2017, 08:19:02 PM
Well the money has to come from somewhere.
It can't only be the old pump/dumpster because this is 100x time bigger.
It surely is a combination of factor.
ETH is not well spread
ETH is booming fueling the boom
Pump/dumpster surely are on this

but that doesn't seem enough to explain the fact that ETH market cap and volume might pass over Btc. People in my street speak about bitcoin, not eth. Hence my question, wouldn't be reasonable for old whales disapointed by btc politics to leave for Eth. Even satoshi might do so with coins we do not know about...

Koreans, and Japanese, to a lesser extent, have been buying the hell out of ETH. Cryptocurrency-mania has swept S. Korea and ETH is their coin of choice. I can't say I blame them. Bitcoin seems to be fading away.
2492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 11, 2017, 06:11:45 AM
Hi there fellow crypto gents (and ladies too, all 3% of you if the stats are to be believed).

I have no official role in Zen but I am a small holder and I want to weigh in on the events over the last few days. First, I want to address the recent price crash and the reasons for it.

The Zencash launch was negatively affected by two things, one outside of the control of developers and one within the control of the developers. Let's start with the delay in the Bittrex launch - the developers can't really control that right. Also, they're a like $12 million cap coin. That means they're price takers when it comes to Bittrex - of course if they were eth devs they could ring up Bittrex and scream, "fix this now!!". But being a small coin, at the end of the day there is nothing the developers could have done about this. In retrospect, it probably would have made more sense to ask tradesatoshi to delay trading also, but who's to say whether they would have complied. Tradesatoshi is such a small exchange, the risk of default would be greater - now it seems the man behind tradesatoshi is an honourable fellow, but it's pretty risky to have your coin on such an illiquid exchange, given what I see as the higher default risk.

The developers could have avoided one of their now expelled former cadres - Joshua Yabut - from deliberately misusing his role coding Zencash to crash Zencash's price and facilitate a temporary pump in ZCL. This is for a couple of reasons. One, if you Google him, there are strands of information that would put one to question Joshua's suitability for the role. Joshua is a capable coder - much better than myself for instance - but he certainly seems to be a highly psychologically unstable person with a feeling of victimisation and a tendency to lash out. He did this by deliberately publically disclosing a security flaw through Twitter with a clearly deliberate intent to cause a Zencash dump. He succeeded and is probably feeling a degree of satisfaction. His real satisfaction will come if Zencash fails, because it's reasonable to assume he sold his holdings before he elicited the dump. If Zencash succeeds over the coming months and years, his satisfaction will probably fade back to the sense of victimisation I sense he carries with him. I have not met him personally, but to me Joshua Yabut appears to have a mild case of Borderline Personality Disorder.

However, people like this are not hard to identify. They will often react inappropriately in different social situations, display high levels of anxiety, and get angry at perceived acts of injustice upon them. So the other devs did have a lapse in judgment in perhaps focusing on his coding skills and overlooking his personal psychological weaknesses. My advice to them would be to freeze him out in totality to the extent possible.

Now going forward, Zencash has a few things going for it. There are three strengths of Zencash that I see. Firstly, having a treasury allows code development and marketing. With some proactive security reviews - to the extent fundable by treasury - we can be the ones getting transfer flows from people cashing out of other privacy coins when they have a security issue (as inevitably happens to most coins), instead of as most recently when we were the ones getting a kicking. The treasury also allows for payment for marketing. Chatter around Zencash outside of the "converted", ie. us, is essential. In particular YouTube videos by cryptomarket commentators are valuable - if this has to be paid for by treasury, so be it.

Secondly, the Master node system is the one advantage Zencash has over all other privacy coins. Except, it doesn't even exist at this point. In my opinion once the security flaw is fixed, and Bittrex wallet reopens, getting Masternodes up and running is essential. I would make a suggestion here to the developers that the number of coins necessary to run a node be increased. It was suggested 42 nodes be the amount needed. I would suggest that at least 200 coins should be required to run a node. The reason is this: At current prices you get the result that someone will get a node for only $300 worth of coin. The result will be so many nodes given the very low cost of VPS service - including free trial years in some cases -  that the reward per node could well drop to very, very little. Far better in my view to require real commitment, eg. $1800 assuming 200 coins, and also offer real reward. The good thing here is that if Zencash prices rise - which the node system tends to support in the short term - the capital required to run a node increases exponentially,  and therefore early adopters are rewarded.

The third strength I see in Zencash is committed, legitimate developers. Over the longer run, our developers are men who are honest, trustworthy - and over time, this will be of substantial benefit. Let's face it, the crypto space is filled with scams, and frauds - we've got a clean team, leading a coin that offers real value, and a proven method of passive income such as Master nodes. That's of value in this space, that is not everywhere. Over time, the value of the developers here will show.

Now if we all here today can work together, in a year's time, and perhaps five years' after that, and then who knows, we can all look back and feel a sense of satisfaction that we were early adopters in Zencash.

Great post. I agree with everything you said.

I would add that we shouldn't be too hard on the devs for teaming up with Joshua. Most of the skilled programmers in this space tend to be the anarchist, hacker, cypherpunk type, and often rather eccentric. In addition, it's tough to find a good, dedicated programmer who will work essentially for free.
2493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH is now going to take the crown, the flippening on: June 11, 2017, 05:05:18 AM
I will call that now eth is going to take the number 1 spot.

there are simply to many EC20 coins coming out, and to much good dev behind it that is actually being implemented.

In tech the first market leader is usually replaced, in BTC is could be different becuase it could have adtted anything good, of even implemented the devd just little bit.

I feel that one if flips, people will be scratching their heads as to the residual use case for BTC, I mean why would it be better than LTC?

again as I oft say recently thank you BU+Segwit, than you.

It may take number one spot but still can not take the blockchain in the bitcoin transaction. It is really secured and that's why it is still whats makes the btc famous around business transactions. Ethereum also its own perks but i dont think it could change the blockchain on the way it helps any transaction. Both of them are amazing in there own ways and i think we should stop complaining on who would take the number spot instead just appreciate the help it tries to give for the community. They've got nothing to lose even if the members are speculating.

ETH is already the more secure blockchain.

I think, despite all the issues ZEN has right now it's a good investment. I would like to compare to ETH after DAO hack, when price crashed.
Some people panic sold and lost a lot of money and others decided to hold because they believed in project.
I like the idea of ZEN and the team so for me there is no doubt it's going to be a success.
Maybe you're right, but damage is done and this price is just a indicator of trust level.
Correction made after that dump is not sustainable and now creates false hopes. I will wait for a while to see what will happen but so far ZCL slowly becoming a winner of this game.

I also thought so, but as we see now the price of ZCL even lower than it was for last few weeks before all that.
I believe in both ZEN and ZCL but i think that ZCL is going to hit a bottom one or two times more before it's going to go up.

I don't believe ZCL has much upside in the short term. From what I can tell, there isn't even any active development. I'm not certain about that though, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right it's doesn't matter what people/devs of zen speak .... zcl it's over, it's dead with no devs .

No dev ? What about thé Guy who left zen for zcl?

He seems to be mentally ill,  I really wouldn't put too much faith into him.

No bug... published error/exploit for replay transactions was disclosed and Bittrex is in Maintenance Mode to secure the coins.

ZEN is the most profitable... because per calc and rate it IS THE MOST PROFITABLE. It fluctuates though.

If it helps anyone else... I put all my Nvidia miners back on ZEN and have been collecting as fast as I can without issue. Local wallet filling up nicely. I will have enough to run a secure node in a couple more days.

How many Zen will be required to run a secure node?

Many bought at same time that was June 2014.
My problem was i did not add much in 2015 and early 2016. If i would skip 2014 altogether and buy in 2015 i might celebrate now. But I am sure times for my celebration are still to come. Smiley

Dreaming of a 6 figure XMR number and not calling yourself a Whale is not that realistic. Having 50000 XMR and even less you are considered as a strong Whale.

I got in at the same time. Prices were somewhat inflated when I made my initial trade for XMR in 2014. Right after that was the attack suspected to be perpetrated by the BCN team. Then there was the BCX FUD. 2014 was a rough year for XMR.
