Do you guys think GUI will be out by the end of 2016 (realistically)?

No. My best, though somewhat pessimistic, estimate is March 2017.

I propose we begin a community-funded ad campaign to encourage people to purchase illicit drugs online.

There was a lot of resistance at 165 its going to be an very interesting weekend. (still just holding and very relaxed Smiley) Some people maybe learned their lesson during first panic sell. It was not so big this time. Does anyone else looked at the lending market? For me it looked like only few medium shorters went in. Could become a short trap.

Indeed - the loan rates are extremely low, indicating very few shorts.

From my point of view it doesn't really matter whether this is a breakout or not.  What matters is that eventually it will break out and level up, and I don't want to be caught wrong-footed when that happens.

Call me a moon child if you like, but at least half the sovereign debt outstanding is never going to be repaid.  When that fact gets priced in, everything will sell off massively, all counterparty, repository, and fiduciary trust relationship will be called into question.  You think you have gold because you own GLD? Hmmmph.  Physical wealth safe from lien or seizure, and crypto, are going to be at maximum premium when the bail-ins begin in earnest in Europe.  Monero is the safest of all assets in this regard.

I've said before but it's worth repeating. The conservatives will flock to gold and silver and the progressives will flock to crypto. So get ready for those clowns Roll Eyes.

Somebody in the crypto world could profit off that. bitcoins4foodstamps.com and bitcoins4collegeloans.com

Couldn't agree more.

Pensions are getting shit on left and right because either the company or local gov't over promised and under delivered. So pensioners are having to take a hair cut.

Things are going to get worse before they get better. Being on the wrong side could cost one a lot.

The looming pension crisis could make the great recession look like a weekend in the Hamptons.
2586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: September 21, 2016, 03:18:29 AM
I would point out a couple facts and open questions:

1. Much of the dev team is Israeli, and the "Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology, and Space" is one of the sponsors. What is Israel getting out of this? Is it not feasible that at least one of the Israeli team members will covertly keep "the golden key"?
Let me take that one step further. Would you trust the Moussad to keep your transactions private? Would you trust them to not dilute or otherwise compromise the blockchain?

2. This is a smaller issue, but the devs have stated that at launch there will only be a linux miner available. This will be seen as a compromised launch by the community. Every serious coin launch has at least a windows and linux miner available. As a CPU mined coin, it could be widely distributed to anyone with a computer. Instead, it will be mined by a handful of people with Xeon server farms running linux.
2587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When do you think Monero and Bitcoin will reach price parity? on: September 20, 2016, 07:30:27 PM
never. the only reason people are getting excited about it is the anonymity.

there'll be a better alt that's anonymous, scalable from minute one and has a full set of facilities. one pump does not make a world beater.

Bitcoin has 1,000+ "better" alts that have a constellation of impressive improvements and features. We've seen how well that's worked out for the alts.
2588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: September 20, 2016, 01:15:32 AM
Monero just keeps ascending higher and higher above the shitcoins like SDC and DASH.
2589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 14, 2016, 03:10:56 PM

When Monero reaches the parity with bitcoin and goes beyond, please do not come here to post bearish posts.

1. I'd be way too rich if that happens
2. I'm not making bearish posts

It's a risky game you are playing. Your calls are gambling, nothing else. I think many with the same mindset were locked out for good after selling at 008 thinking that this was for sure the top and they would rebuy lower.

I hope the same happens to you, cuz I don't like your condescending tone towards investors/holders, you need to accept that not everyone is a trader.
And nobody gives a fuck about the success of your trades, so take your boasting somewhere else.

Agreed, but when you have 90% permabulls someone needs to balance things out. And I'm not even bearish on monero longterm

I appreciate thoughtful posts that go against the typical circle jerking.

Wedge/Pennant forming.

Green candles have been on higher volume, but we'll see which way it breaks soon enough.

Well played, bullwhale. Well played.
2592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 13, 2016, 03:58:00 PM
I am thinking a Trump presidency could crash USD.  Either way, the next administration is going to go full-on fiscal stimulus, and USD is near its peak.  I like market-making in XMR because it is back and forth between BTC and XMR.  Another appealling trading venue is the Gold/Silver pair.  There is no taxable event until/unless you take out some USD, and you are always in PMs, worst case.  But for the moment, USD is where it is at.  As long as oil is crashing, PMs are going to have a huge drag.  I like shorting all the things right now (except XMR).  Also GBPJPY is a good bet.  I nibble whenever it dips under 130.

The best thing about XMR profits is that the IRS will never know about them.  Wink

This reminds me of a conversation yesterday with my wife, who told me that her friend had to pay nearly $10,000 in income taxes last year.
The kicker is that her income is 100% cash.
I was like
2593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 13, 2016, 03:35:11 PM
ADD: Aminorex was correct with his thesis that one should rather sell all his BTC and invest 1/3 in XMR and 2/3 in USD, than keep 95% of the BTC and buy a small XMR position with the rest.

Since XMR is still only 1% of BTC marketcapwise, the above still holds.

I disagree and the above is my tactic. Monero is my diversification from Bitcoin but I still think it's way less likely to win than Bitcoin. Seriously people, I strongly advise against selling all your Bitcoin.

Monero is my only other crypto holding other than Bitcoin however so that's a huge compliment. The only other 2 I held were  LTC and PPC which I sold after the previous bubble.

PS: Mimblewimble holds great promise and don't buy ZeroCoin

I see Zcash as the largest short to medium term threat to Monero. They're likely to have a sizeable PR/advertising budget, and there will be a small army of Z-tards promoting it everywhere. It'll be like DASH on steroids, except that Zcash is actually anonymous, inevitable bugs notwithstanding.

@Blazed if you want to earn a lot or lose a lot there are many coins on Poloniex daily being pumped. You can get x3 or more a day. Or lose.

As a gambler you don't need to wait for ETH and Monero to play.

The majority of gamblers on Poloniex are in the loss camp. They chase one pump 'n dump to the next and get steamrolled by whales and con artists.
2595  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 12, 2016, 08:00:59 PM
It's hard not to be disconcerted about the lack of a GUI after more than two years. I know it's coming "soonish", as it has been for 1+ years. However, at this point it's certainly holding back adoption at a time when adoption is poised to explode.

Got a pull request?  Complaining accomplishes nothing.  I think everyone understands the situation.  If you can't contribute code, your dev fund contribution is quite welcome.

I have contributed to the dev fund. Can you please direct me to the thread where I can speculate about how the lack of basic UI features may affect the price? Perhaps a Monero speculation thread?

I understand the GUI gripes are tiresome (here's looking at you, N-rG). The "Fuck you. Go code a GUI." responses are getting old too.

2597  Economy / Speculation / Re: wtf is happening? btc drop on: September 12, 2016, 05:45:18 AM
Maybe large holders will move into trusted altcoins during these periods of uncertainty like Andreas mentioned

A lot of bitcoin enthusiasts have been moving into Monero, for sure. Roger Ver recently mentioned he bought a lot.
2598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What coin will rise after Monero? on: September 12, 2016, 05:36:23 AM
You can forget all the others, why not to focus on Monero only. Buy now, be happy later. Just buy and hold no matter how high the price goes.
Monero is seriously the first coin that even the bitcoin maximalists are scared of. Some joined already after they realized they cannot beat it.

Focusing on the shitcoins are waste of time and money.

This. I don't know how many times people need to get steamrolled by scamcoins and pump and dump artists. Monero is one of only maybe 3-4 coins I'd even consider buying.
2599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 11, 2016, 03:45:28 AM
Well anyway free speech, its meaning, and purpose, are super interesting topics that I would love to talk about. But it just feels... wrong... here. That's why we should have an off topic thread.

I agree. If you open one, LMK! Have a good night, and to you nioc!

Thread made.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1611808

And my first comment is directed at you owl.

Anyone else get a weird message when they try to go to the thread?

"You're visiting this thread too much. Please find a new hobby."

Buy support is really quite high while the sell support has dropped off enormously these last couple of hours. Good indicators?

Good indicators that the whale manipulator switched sides. Tongue

I'm guessing the fake sell orders and accompanying fake selloff, in combination with the soon-to-be breakout, were just to lure noobs and bears into a short squeeze.
