261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people still fall victim to obvious scam? on: December 24, 2019, 01:07:00 AM
Mostly greed and a lack of experience on the Internet, especially with cryptocurrencies. The scams that go on around these parts can get pretty elaborate at times, and to be fair, even though a lot of scams are terribly obvious for preying on peoples' greed (offering extremely high returns, short period of return, etc), some of them are pretty well-disguised and it takes time and experience seeing and recognizing scams to be able to stay away from them. I do agree that it's still pretty sad how many people fall for scams considering many aren't well-designed and usually have a multitude of red flags, though.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Arbitrage bot or not? on: December 24, 2019, 01:01:42 AM
I use bots for my own style of mostly mid-term trades, but if you were to try to perform arbitrage, you'd have best success with using bots. It's very hard to do manually considering it's already highly automated, and with certain exchanges where you might see arbitrage opportunities, there may be strings attached that you aren't aware of like added fees or the exchange simply being unreliable.

While it's true that bots could potentially malfunction and make you lose some money, there's plenty of safeguards in most bots like stop losses to minimize the risk of anything like this happening. I've been running Gunbot for many months without any major issues.

If you're looking for a more reputable arbitrage bot option than what you might be getting offered, a number of authorized Gunbot resellers such as crwth offer it for 0.95BTC. Here's one such thread (click for link) where you can find information on how to purchase it.
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitmex Research Reveals That investors have lost about 98% Investment in IEOs. on: December 24, 2019, 12:21:15 AM
Not surprising to me at all considering we're nearly back to Bitcoin's price in May, which is referenced in the Bitmex article in question, and alts have been rising slower and dropping as fast if not faster than Bitcoin recently. Also shows the underscores the downside of the strategy of investment many people use of placing lots of money into various IEOs or ICOs and waiting for them to rise- even though a few of them might rise rapidly like MATIC, the vast majority of them do poorly and you won't necessarily be able to offset the losers with winners.
264  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you ever trade at work? on: December 24, 2019, 12:15:56 AM
Sometimes. I don't trade nearly as much as I used to, so I don't trade that often at work (I get phone alerts when things start moving anyways), but there have been times when I've logged in to my exchange accounts at work just to tweak a few things, so I don't actively trade at work. I'm pretty busy most of the time with other work-related and non work-related tasks anyways, so that leaves less time for me to trade nowadays in the first place.
265  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I build my own TradingView bot - what are the best TradingView indicators? on: December 23, 2019, 02:50:46 AM
I've found a lot of people use EMA, MA or MACD-like indicators (MACD's derived from EMAs) when trading with bots and I also adopt a similar strategy with how I run my bot (Gunbot in my situation). I'm not a big fan of using more obscure or lots of indicators simultaneously, either; I keep my strategies relatively simple and thus easy to rapidly change for when market conditions change or when I need to make tweaks on the fly.

Some people also like to use RSI, though I find it can be unreliable because RSI can remain oversold or overbought for extended periods of time in strong up or downtrends, both of which are very common with cryptocurrencies.
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top 3 Cryptocurrency Marketplaces on: December 23, 2019, 01:03:28 AM
Interesting read, though I do not necessarily agree with how it seems these marketplaces were ranked in this list. Based on how the Alexa rating of the marketplaces are listed right under their corresponding names, it seems like that was one of the primarydeciding factors in how these marketplaces were ranked, which I don't like because the other two marketplaces besides OpenBazaar are significantly newer and thus somewhat less reputable than OpenBazaar, and I wouldn't rank OpenSea over OpenBazaar or vice versa simply because of their features because OpenSea only allows you to list digital goods and OpenBazaar only allows you to list physical goods. It really just depends what you as a merchant or consumer is looking for in this case.

I do like how user- and newbie-friendly the top 3 ranked platforms appear, however. I'll definitely be looking into OpenSea and Origin Protocol for potential sales opportunities in the future.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: problem sending ETH token to exchange on: December 23, 2019, 12:55:27 AM
The second scenario indeed has to do with your not having enough Ethereum to complete the transaction (Gas is the fee for a transaction); getting a bit more and then resending should fix the problem.

For the first, I was doing a bit of digging into the issue and I found a brief page from MyEtherWallet on the issue (click for link). This page claims that the error results from sending more of a token than you have, though it also lists a few other scenarios where this could happen, especially with custom tokens. Considering the first error picture seems to involve a custom token, take a look at what I linked.
268  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Will hit 5500 ? on: December 22, 2019, 05:28:06 PM
I could definitely see the lower $6000s happening and maybe $5500 because it seems like we're still stuck in a mostly descending pattern of lower lows and lower highs, though I agree that we've started to find support near the $6500s and there's been two failed attempts to breach that area thus far. Support doesn't hold forever and it's completely possible we just hold around this area and break downwards later, but I also agree that sentiment seems extremely bearish in many places at the moment and the selling might start to relent soon.
269  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Candlestick patterns on: December 22, 2019, 05:22:59 PM
Interesting site; I'm a fan of using candlestick patterns in my analysis and trading occasionally, and this helps out with the timeframes that I trade on (hourly and up usually), though one suggestion I'd make is to add a timeframe filter that shows all occurrences of a pattern above a certain timeframe and not just only for one certain timeframe. It'd also be helpful if you were able to view one TradingView chart showing multiple occurrences of a pattern instead of just one or the most recent one (and show more than just one pattern on a chart), though I'll definitely be using this more often in the future.
270  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Safety first before trading on: December 16, 2019, 09:39:02 PM
You should also not be using a set percentage below your entry to determine where to place a stop loss, but rather determine it from how much money you're willing to risk compared to your position size. You can use a closer stop and a large order if you're confident that the price is going in the direction you've determined it to, or a far away stop with a smaller position if you're less certain while risking the same amount of money in both circumstances when done correctly. Make sure your analysis agrees with your stop placements as well, and like the article mentions, don't place stops in obvious places because previous lows and highs are often overrun for liquidity because people like to place their stops near these two points.
271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: $1.5 million worth of USDC was minted again! on: December 16, 2019, 09:34:03 PM
It's also important to note that a lot of USDC is burned as well if you're going to talk about how much they mint; looking at the same Twitter account @whale_alert that the 1.5 million USDC figure that the article in question quotes, there was about 8 million USDC burned just an hour earlier, likely because of a large redemption according to the Centre USDC FAQ. Either way, it does seem that USDC's becoming one of the more popular stablecoins people use.

I'm pretty indifferent to stablecoins as well, but I don't trust Tether at all and it is in my opinion that if you must use a stablecoin, don't use Tether, and USDC seems to be one of the better ones from what I've seen over the past few months.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are stablecoins a definite solution against a bear market? on: December 13, 2019, 12:58:17 AM
If I were to be anticipating an extended bear market, I'd rather just take the fees of converting my crypto to fiat money and keep that fiat money until I see market conditions improving and convert it back to cryptocurrencies later. One main advantage that stablecoins have is that they can be traded just like fiat dollars but without the string attached with trading with fiat, which is partly why so many traders use stablecoins, but you lose that when you're keeping the stablecoin for an extended period of time.

I also see most stablecoins as being slightly risky even though they might claim to be extremely safe and secure, especially Tether. I don't use Tether, I don't plan on ever using it, and I certainly won't be holding it.
273  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken suspended my account and refunded the money on: December 12, 2019, 10:20:48 PM

We used a remote computer VPS in frankfurt to do the kraken account signup and verification's.

Your using a VPS was probably what set off a red flag for Kraken to suspend your account. I originally assumed you used something like TeamViewer to conduct the verification process, but it's generally not an extremely difficult task for exchanges and websites in general to find the details of your IP address and whether or not it's from a datacenter or something of the sort. Kraken's probably very picky about this and so your account was suspended, but I would suggest signing up to another exchange and finishing verification on your home network to avoid any potential issues.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gold and Crypto on: December 12, 2019, 10:14:11 PM
I don't think a cryptocurrency that claims to be backed by gold's a good idea at all either; there's really no way for us to definitively know if the gold's real and if there's any actually backing the coin, and almost all of the coins that have been on the markets and are on the markets that claim to be backed by gold were scams or are likely scams, which doesn't help at all.

Just having cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum or another coin should be sufficient at the end of the day too. The coins that claim to be backed by gold don't have any advantage over existing ones, and they're also significantly less credible than older developments like the coins I mentioned earlier.
275  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [List] Gift cards providers on: December 12, 2019, 10:04:18 PM
One thing to note about eGifter if you're just looking for places that sell Amazon gift cards is that the site only accepts full payment in eGifter points for them, which you can only acquire from buying other cards on their site. It wasn't always like this and I used to buy AGCs pretty often from the site, but I figured it's something important to know. Seems like Amazon's the only gift card that you can only buy with site points on eGifter, though, and I've bought a few thousand dollars from the site over the years with very few issues.

276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New altcoins with low difficulty? on: December 12, 2019, 09:30:47 PM
There doesn't seem to be any one resource you can go to where you can view and sort new altcoins by hashrate, but one thing you could try doing is go into the Altcoin Announcements section and find a few of the newer coins' block explorers if possible and start from there. Keep in mind that not all algorithms are the same, and some coins even vary by how difficulty is calculated and many other factors, so it might not always be easy to determine some sort of relative hashrate for altcoins.
277  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken suspended my account and refunded the money on: December 12, 2019, 09:24:29 PM
I'm pretty surprised that Kraken was able to find out that you were doing the verification process through a RDP as I assumed that what they could detect would only be activity coming from your main PC, but after your vacation, try to contact the site's support, and once you get permission from Kraken, try doing the registration and verification process once more while you're at your computer.

You can also try to use other exchanges like Binance that are available in your country and verify there, though if you're asking who can process your verification at Kraken, you'll need to contact the site's support.
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What matters most to online casinos? on: December 11, 2019, 09:57:37 PM
Convenience attracts me to online casinos more than a lot of other factors, though I do also place looser KYC requirements pretty high in my list of things I look for with online casinos too. I have to drive myself to a physical casino just to play a few games which isn't very ideal for me considering I typically don't gamble a lot of money, nor do I have the time to go to a physical casino all of the time. I'm also not the most sociable person IRL, and playing online games just feels better to me overall, though I do go out and play with friends every now and then too.
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beginner needs advice for portfolio on: December 11, 2019, 09:37:10 PM
One comment I'd make on one of your potential coins to complete the last part of your portfolio would be your thought process with Steem- though a lot of coins have fallen significantly from their ATHs (generally near 2017) and average price over the years, I would highly suggest you do more research and analysis on these coins instead of simply considering investing in them just because they're cheap. There's often some reason(s) why these coins have fallen, and in many cases these coins won't go back up again unless more milestones and significant new developments occur, though I'm not saying this necessarily applies to Steem.
280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Safe or crazy? (sports tickets) on: December 11, 2019, 09:32:34 PM
I like going for crazy high odds every now and then both in sports and esports betting, though it also depends on what my analysis determines to be the better choice and then an analysis of the risk to reward of betting on the less favored team versus the overdog. Nothing's more exciting than hitting a big win from a small-sized bet on high odds, but these situations usually don't happen very often and very few pan out in favor to the underdog, though.
