2521  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Halfsize Avalon "proposed" in latest update -- 45Gh/s on: April 16, 2013, 04:31:29 PM
Product sounds good, but I hope some other ASIC companies get going. It would not be good to only have one company dominating the aSIC market. Competition always helps.

2522  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL - Is this saga finally going to go away on: April 16, 2013, 04:28:59 PM
Nope there's hope for BFL -- didn't you hear, Avalon is selling batches of 10,000 chips.

Latest inside rumor is that BFL is just going to buy a batch of these chips and get soldering. That way, they'll at least be able to ship something before September.
2523  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 16, 2013, 04:24:00 PM
I'm surprised at how consistently wrong my price predictions are.

Anyone want good market advice?

You should ask me...

And then do the opposite.

Came on to see if anyone had the same problems.

Well crap. That sucks.

Just when I finally found a good pool (I thought) with a good stale rate it turns out it's now not paying out? Ugh.

Hrmm maybe the owner lost his shirt in the crash?  Or had a heart attack, expired, and is currently slumped over his keyboard? Hrmm...

Gonna give this give-ltc a go.

2526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Final Solution to the Mtgox Problem... on: April 12, 2013, 03:37:25 PM
Each individual participator in the BTC economy should see what trouble has been caused by relying so much on MT.GOX, and change their behavior accordingly.

I think the community seems to be moving in the right direction and this last week was hopefully a final wake call.

It's great to read some of these new ideas folks are coming up with as well, on new directions to move forward.
2527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was high on bitcoin - now I feel bad on: April 12, 2013, 03:27:18 PM
Markets go up and down but ideas never die Smiley

If you are looking at BTC purely as a money making venture than, ya things don't look that great in the short-term. But think: you can only ever make a really big profit when stuff is cheap. No one gets in at the top of a peak and makes a lot of cash. The cash is made by taking a risk when things are closer to the bottom...

Besides money, if you are looking at the big picture of BTC and how far it has come in a few years & on top of that, how well it has been weathering some very big storms, then there is nothing to be glum about at all. I'd say BTC is doing fantastic.

There was a bubble. It's popped. BTC is fine though. It's gonna keep rollin' along and getting stronger...

edit: I think the wildness of the last few weeks have made it easy to lose perspective. Look at BTC's price over the last year. We are at 75$ right now. I'd say this is really strong. Honestly. I would say sub $40 is a weak price for BTC right now, and $50 is reasonable, and $75+ is strong.

Bubble burst. Tons of money in and out like that. Most of it speculation. Still a great many of BTC holders have coins and held on and will continue to hold on for a long while yet...

bitcoin: too big to fail?  Cool
2530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 12, 2013, 03:11:01 AM
Don't think I've ever been this entertained, by a chart, in my life .
2531  Economy / Speculation / Re: Since Gox Reopned.. on: April 12, 2013, 02:59:11 AM
Better than I expected. This is really strong opening ... Bodes really well ...
2532  Economy / Economics / Re: MTGOX reopens - Reported LAG on bitcoinity, still several seconds! Incorrigible on: April 12, 2013, 02:16:28 AM
She's holding... 70-75

Seems to be about a even distribution of buy and sells which is encouraging...
2533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The cyprus thing isn't so funny now, is it? on: April 11, 2013, 11:25:14 PM
There is a very big difference between a bought-and-paid-for government stealing your money to cover 20-1 long shot market gambles compared to....   a new currency that you freely invested in and freely bought and sold on a market that goes down in value.

No one forced anyone to use MT.GOX to buy and sell bitcoins.

Many people were forced by a government (run by a small elite) to surrender 10% of their balances.

Yes, there is difference. A Big difference.
2534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 2.0 on: April 11, 2013, 11:21:07 PM
Trying to have a cryptography-based currency without manipulation is impossible. Can't happen.

It's like calling yourself a conservative anarchist.

Not to say it is not a really important topic.  But I think it's silly to say that manipulation is somehow morally wrong.  The morality of it shouldn't be figured into the equations of how it functions.
2535  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gox down completely on: April 11, 2013, 11:12:22 PM
Let's not be TOO hard on those guys. Look at the massive boom in the last week. Like from a logistics standpoint that would have been almost impossible to ramp up the infrastructure to maintain the volume of trades. Going forward I think the lessons will hopefully have been learnt and there will hopefully be more diversity in exchanges as well.

Read my post bro.  Recognize what is happening and realize IN ADVANCE that you have a scaling issue, suspend new account, return recent deposits on newly created accounts too if you must.  But TURN AWAY THE BUSINESS YOU CAN"T MAKE GOOD ON!

Sorry for the caps.  But this is a repeat of 2011 for them.

Well, fair enough. I see your point.  Fair enough to say that they should have at least realized they could not sustain the rapid increased rate of trade volumes so could have suspended operations.
2536  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Price when the dust settles... on: April 11, 2013, 11:07:53 PM
No. Idea. At all.  I can't wait to see just out of curiosity.

I don't see it dropping it below <$40 . But would not be surprised by any number in that poll.

I think the people who were gonna sell mostly sold already. And a lot of people will buy in if it falls to low. So ya: could be anywhere hehe.
2537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banker Manipulation of Bitcoin - Alex Jones is Cointel on: April 11, 2013, 11:01:09 PM
I think folks may be over-stating the size of the bitcoin market in relation to any other major currency market.  A $1 / $2 billion market is next to nothing in comparison to any other major currency market or exchange. The US stock market is worth over $50 trillion dollars for example. Bitcoin at its peak was still classified as a small-fish market cap. Not to take anything away from my favourite currency of course.

I think bitcoin will be more a force that'll put fear into some governments sometime down the road... 2-3 years at least.
2538  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: Are you going to buy, sell or hold? on: April 11, 2013, 10:51:54 PM
Holding for the long haul here.

If I had more $ that I could afford to gamble with I would buy as much as I could if it goes less than <$40 and stabilizes or starts to go up at all.
2539  Economy / Speculation / Re: How will you react at 02:00 UTC? on: April 11, 2013, 10:50:23 PM
Bag of chips and some beer. Don't have too too much $$ involved so I'm just going enjoy watching the ticker tonight.
