I have a single S2 that's powered off, collecting dust in anticipation of the S6 upgrade option becoming available.
I suspect it will probably be the last miner I ever buy :|
|
|
|
Is it worth to start mining now?
No. Best off taking what money you would be spending buying mining gear, and purchasing BTC directly (eg: via Coinbase)

Out of morbid curiosity, how well do Neptunes downclock towards the 1100W range ? Is it possible, and if so, what sort of hash-rate might I be looking at ?
Toying with the idea of picking one of these up on EBay while pricing is in the toilet.

Hello Bitmain. Do you have any estimation on when an S6 will be available (if made), and the time frame?
I imagine it will be made available for sale sometime in the near future at $949 1 hour later price changed to $995 1 hour later price changed to $1199 1 hour later price changed to $1299.

"A change in competitor" = BS. The drop then rise of S5 miner price is simply because he likes to play games by speculating with bitcoin price in order to extract the most possible juice out of the miners and leave zero marginal benefit to miners because in his space he's a monopolist/oligopolist. Let's drop the bullshit once and for all.
Agreed. I'm making a formal call of shenanigans against Bitmain. Do not support their transparent price gouging. Additionally, I would recommend miners move off Antpool in favor of any other pool (Except EclipseMC because Fuck Butterfly Labs).

Also, just throwing this out there - Dogie got me an email address for someone at Bitmain and it looks like they're gonna be handing off some sample BM1384 chips so we can start prototyping that. I actually was working on the prototype power circuits earlier today and hope to have it fairly ironed out by tomorrow afternoon. Pretty cool.
Very interesting. Looking forward to following your efforts.

The death of home mining is what's next, unfortunately.
It was a fun hobby while it lasted.

Whats so funny Don't mind Bitmain. They are merely laughing all the way to the bank while they are attempting to fuck you and me over with this bullshit price-gouging. Bitmain, when I wished you a happy and prosperous New Year in our private communications, I had no idea it would come in the form of bending us over to the tune of +25% price increases the first chance you got. For shame, Bitmain. You've spit in the face of every small-time miner on these forums that helped your rise to prominence.

Speaking of taking acid, how about them S5 pre-orders Dogie? Any input on Bitmain's decision to do that?
It's like they couldn't show any more contempt towards miners if they tried. Very sad to see this happen to Bitmain - Becoming so unscrupulously and wantonly greedy Price bump +25% hours within relaunch. What a fucking unforgivable shit-show. I can't support this behavior. Somehow, I suspect Bitmain just doesn't give a flying fuck about us small players any more, and was looking for any excuse to gouge us on price once they saw the demand spike after they became available again. Total transparent cash grab.

I wouldn't necessarily say this is about AM. It could be, but there's another large entity out there that just recently showed an awesome new chip that could have driven a large hashrate increase.
I get that, but even then, Bitfury products aren't aimed at home miners any more, and they aren't imminently deploying massive hash-rate. Again, would expect June/July for BF deployment.

You guys lost my sale. Now at $411. The way that you have gone about raising prices today is just bad business. At the current price you should be including a PSU. Sorry, but I am out.
I agree. This more than just bad business. Bitmain is continuing to play ing with us... FTFY

Yeah but on the positive side I believe this action helps lift btc price.
Unknowable. Speculation. So If I stay at 10th hash total and price goes to 320 or 330 usd by their actions that works.
So using this logic, it's best for me to stay at 10TH and not buy anything right now ? It's the principle. Raising the price three times in a few short hours is gouging. Plain and simple. Not cool. The ASICMiner BE300 snafu has been known since before they set pricing this morning originally at $320, and I don't buy that excuse for raising the price so quickly. BE300's were to ship in the June/July timeframe anyway.
|
|
|
Xian01, we have our reason to do this. A very important diff driver will not be able to do anything to diminish your mining output. Wait for our short explanation about it.
If it's about ASICMiner not shipping BE300's, I understand, but this makes it look like you're price gouging, again, which is the source of the frustration.

A $64 jump is huge - 20% increase.
I agree I wanted to pay by credit card and the link was screwed up. Went to batch 4 which was sold out. I was willing to buy some at $320 and then a $64 jump. That also increases the customs (duty) tax. Same. Originally wanted to pay with USD, it asked me to do a SWIFT transfer, decided to go back and pay with BTC, price was raised So I either complete this SWIFT purchase in 3 days to honor the $320 price, or I have to pay +20% ? Damnit. This is very uncool of Bitmain. Again.

Raised the price while it was in my checkout Unbelievable. I know this is not a bitmain thread, but S5 batches 5 and 6 up now!
yeah 384 for march 30th shipping and 354 for june 9th shipping
|
|
|
Did the prices just rise? A few hours ago S5 Batch 5 cost 320USD, now it is 384USD?!?
OMG you're right. My shopping cart has been updated Here we go again... Bitmain. Why do you hurt us so ? Making it awfully hard to love you

I switched to https://eclipsemc.com after cex missed some payouts and AntPool also fucked it up. If everything fails, I'll go back to slush, my first pool ever. EcpliseMC is owned and run by Butterfly Labs. I can't adequately convey how necessary it is for you to move your miners to any pool other than EclipseMC.
