If it is space heaters that you REALLY want, AND you do not mind maintaining / reducing your hash-rate, you could be better served by acquiring a set of S1's, underclock & undervolt them (to output ~125 GH/s @ - and don't ask me for a link, search the forum!) and replace the fan with a couple of quieter ones in a push pull layout at full pelt, aka blue wire hack; For a tad less power for both compared to your bitfury rig, you'd be laughing!

500GH/s bitfury rig? How much wattage does that beast consume, bearing in mind an OC'd S3+ @ 500+ GH/s consumes ~400w?
It's over 1W/GHs by a bit, which is why I'm looking to create a couple quiet S3 space-heaters, and retire the current Bitfury space-heaters. |

TBH, I have a 500GHs Bitfury rig running in my bedroom that is super quiet.  Look for something more efficient (and quiet) to replace it. How much does that run nowadays? I'm not sure they are officially available any more. Might get lucky on Fleabay or the Hardware sales section of these forums. I've had the rigs for over a year now they're still chugging along. |

Isn't that like asking a mechanic if you could get twice the horsepower from your car if he would just put two or three sparkplugs in each cylinder instead of just the one. The aim would get to get two of them quiet enough to run in a bedroom or office.
Could someone experienced offer any insight if stacking a few non PWM low speed fans in sequence, on each end of the miner, work to push enough air through the unit more quietly ? Any recommendations for fans to that end ?

If the FTC belived they had a solid consumer fraud case they would have taken BFL's website down not under temporary receivership. You can still go to their website and order miners so I don't believe this will end the way everyone, including the judge hearing the case, hopes it will. BFL's will be forced to pay a fine and their company will almost certainly not be disolved and they will be back up and running as soon as the case is decided. I know that sucks a fat one but ultimately the law is the law it's difficult to prove what people's intentions are/were.
Assuming your scenario comes true, who is going to continue doing business with Butterfly Labs in the future after their unscrupulous behavior has come to light ? Either way this FTC investigation shakes out, they are done for as a business. Consumer confidence has been (rightfully) utterly destroyed. I suspect the FTC action is "just the tip" for what's to come. |

Nope. Cheaper to buy BTC directly with fiat right now vs purchasing a miner to acquire the same amount. I was tempted to buy a 1.4 TH Prisma @ ~ 1.4BTC, but I can't rationalize reinvesting my mined coins to purchase it right now as it will likely never generate the 1.4 BTC back over it's lifetime. If I were to buy a miner priced in BTC, I wouldn't touch my stash; would head to Coinbase, buy some BTC with fiat for the purchase with USD. Haven't even picked up an Antminer S4 as I can't rationalize that purchase either, given Bitmain's track-record lately  Feels like the entire mining landscape is in a funk right now. Have my 12TH farm that I'll probably keep running until the components die or I get bored of things. Will always continue to run a full Bitcoin node. |
