1861  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [02/03/14] - FT.com Britain To Scrap Bitcoin Tax on: March 03, 2014, 07:54:25 PM
This IS the first step and WILL lead to bank acceptance of bitcoin businesses and exchanges in the UK.

I don't see how it is possible to force banks to work with Bitcoin businesses. It's their decision.

1862  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is the price climbing again? (3.3.2014 UTC around 16:00) on: March 03, 2014, 06:27:27 PM
Perhaps the Gox bagholders have realised they won't be seeing any of their coins again.
They now have no choice but to rebuy at market price, if they want to be on the Bitcoin train.
1863  Economy / Speculation / Re: URGENT NEWS - Warren Buffet declares Bitcoin as a BAD INVESTMENT on: March 03, 2014, 06:23:42 PM
Buffet only really goes for companies that pay a dividend...

...and his company does not.   Grin

The only way to make money by owning Berkshire Hathaway is to sell it (capital gains).

He clearly only likes receiving dividends, not giving them out.
1864  Economy / Speculation / Re: URGENT NEWS - Warren Buffet declares Bitcoin as a BAD INVESTMENT on: March 03, 2014, 05:56:41 PM
Buffet only really goes for companies that pay a dividend. His stance isn't the slightest bit surprising.
Problem is lots of investors listen to him.
1865  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] Crime Scene Investigation, Case #MG744 on: March 03, 2014, 04:57:51 PM
OK I JUST TRACED BITCOINS I SENT TO GOX ON:

2014-02-03 06:29:00

SENT 5 BTC TO Mt.GOX ADDRESS: 1CdiTM1BCifFB5KpW8L5t51PUL8NW7vW9E

TRANSACTION: https://blockchain.info/address/1CdiTM1BCifFB5KpW8L5t51PUL8NW7vW9E

NEXT my 5 BTC get's sent to: 1GvYWVRPyq2mQFf8w64DZtyX4ekK5taa1d

https://blockchain.info/address/1GvYWVRPyq2mQFf8w64DZtyX4ekK5taa1d

NEXT my 5 BTC get's sent to: 1NRUPGCqCX56DvVptV2dvNPS2UwZMsUXvA

https://blockchain.info/address/1NRUPGCqCX56DvVptV2dvNPS2UwZMsUXvA

AND IT IS STILL THERE!

SO WHY CAN'T I CLAIM THAT BACK IN COURT?

It hasn't been stolen, it is just sitting in some dormant wallet of Gox's.

Who do you possibly know that address 1NRUPGCqCX56DvVptV2dvNPS2UwZMsUXvA belongs to Mtgox??
1866  Bitcoin / Press / Re: *DJ Mt. Gox Lawyer: Filed For Bankruptcy Protection Y6.5B Debt - updated on: March 03, 2014, 12:05:07 PM
All of us whant to know where every single one of those missing 750k Bitcoin have gone to. That's too much to be lost!

That's easy. They are in the public blockchain ledger.
1867  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 02, 2014, 09:01:36 PM
It amazes me that people still place such moral value in BTC actually. It's hardly how I view a free market, more a "war of all against all".

Bitcoin is free. As in speech, not beer.

You are free to fork the blockchain however you choose.
You are free to rollback the blockchain to whatever block height you choose.

But remember; others are free with the choice of using your fork or not.

Can't get much more free than that.
1868  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Coinffeine - (P2P bitcoin exchange) code now available! on: March 02, 2014, 08:34:07 PM
Interesting.
1869  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 02, 2014, 05:11:33 PM
So what you lot going to call this new fork? Obviously you can't call it Bitcoin, as Bitcoin's transactions are irreversible, which is why we trust it, hence giving it value.
1870  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 02, 2014, 07:45:51 AM
In the light of possible collapse of value of Bitcoin,

Why would that happen? Has network security been broken or something? Are transactions not being processed?
1871  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox and our money? on: March 02, 2014, 07:31:59 AM
I can see my bitcoins are still there so I don't get what will happen to them.
How? The website is down.

Also, what I don't understand is how for 7 years mtgox management didn't notice bitcoins were being stolen.
My guess is they were stolen years ago. Management knew fully about it.
7 years? Bitcoin is only 5 years old.

Because everything is public I just don't understand how people didn't notice earlier and also what will happen to the bitcoins that are still there!
People did notice things didn't add up at Mt.Gox for a long time. Some were quite vocal about it. Shame everyone ignored them.
I posted this last year for example:
I have my doubts if Gox will even exist a year from now.
The warning signs were very very obvious indeed. For those paying attention anyway.
1872  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] Crime Scene Investigation, Case #MG744 on: March 02, 2014, 07:10:34 AM
He says he has 'identified the problem' and is 'working on it'
What else could that mean other than - they screwed up their wallets/keys and are trying to fix it now.

Maybe, just maybe; *gasp*; he could be lying!

I really would ignore anything Mark tells you.
1873  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 01, 2014, 09:20:09 PM
Let's say that now 40% of all coins are owned by one single hacker, would you fork?

NO. Absolutely not.

What would happen if I legitimately bought £10,000 worth of coins 2500 blocks ago? According to you it would be okay for the transaction to be rolled back. Now I don't have my coins or the money!
1874  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 01, 2014, 09:15:38 PM
Bitcoin. Bailout free since 2009.
1875  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 01, 2014, 08:42:16 PM
These blockchain 'rollback' threads keep popping up clearly illustrate the lack of understanding why bitcoin has any value in the first place.
1876  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 01, 2014, 08:32:54 PM
My thesis is that Mt.Gox lose 850,000btc three weeks ago.

No. Gox lost those years ago. They've been in deficit since.

How do you know that? I based my thesis on what they said in their last press conference.

I don't know that, it's just my guess. Another thread around here was speculating the theory, sounded good to me.
I've been suspicious of Gox for a while, too many red flags, something didn't add up, hence my post last year:
I have my doubts if Gox will even exist a year from now.

I based my thesis on what they said in their last press conference.
I would take anything Karpels says with a large pinch of salt.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter what theory is correct. The end result will be the same.
Any coins left on Gox won't be returned to their owners. That you can be quite sure of.
1877  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GOX] BRAKING NEWS: Karpeles admits he is "Working on" retrieving cold storage!! on: March 01, 2014, 08:08:32 PM
That they are mocking this idea, will cause more focus.  You will see eventually, that this is more than just another rickroll.  Far more than that.

The end result is the same whatever the truth is. Any coins now left on Gox won't be returned to their owners.
1878  Economy / Speculation / Re: Markets not reacting to loss of 100s of Millions of $ is disturbing on: March 01, 2014, 06:01:16 PM
Everyone thinking this is a good thing is 100% delusional.

Letting a bad company crash and burn is a good thing. This is not bailout coin. Just like in nature, the strong survive.
1879  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: A consensus network, or how to stop a big lose (fork it!) on: March 01, 2014, 05:42:19 PM
Do we have any idea where 800,000 BTC are located on the blockchain?

We know at least one transaction from June 2011 (with 42424.24 BTC or something like that).

My thesis is that Mt.Gox lose 850,000btc three weeks ago.

No. Gox lost those years ago. They've been in deficit since.
1880  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Official Money Lost in Mt. GOX Thread on: March 01, 2014, 05:38:15 PM
i lost  ~3BTC and faith

Not faith in Bitcoin I hope.
