Fine and good, thanks, but consider this:  there was a 'canonical' pre-0.8 chain.  Do a 'thought experiment':  what happened if this pre-0.8 chain had bit rot?

There are something like 10,000 copies of the chain. It would be impossible for all copies to have the same bit rot.

It's not necessary for all copies to have bit rot, just the canonical copy that either Palatinus or Marsee had.

TonyT
As I said, the rest of the un-rotted network would see the very obvious rot and ignore it, and carry on as normal.

I imported my Blockchain wallet backup into Multibit and it shows that the transaction never happened and the btc is still in my wallet. I sent it to a new address but blockchain.info now warns that it may be a double spend...
I'm glad you resolved it. Told ya your coins wouldn't be lost.
This is not a double spend. Blockchain.info explorer has a bug.

Remember, blockchain.info is not the bitcoin network.
1343  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Data rot: how does bitcoin handle it? on: October 21, 2014, 08:47:38 PM
All nodes on the network are equal and automatically assume 100% that information received from connected peers is malicious until independently verified by itself.
This is the cornerstone security model of the bitcoin network.

Any data received from a peer node containing invalid data (deliberate or by accident) will be ignored.

Yes, I agree, most of the time this is true.  But see this post below and consider the implications if the "canonical" blockchain had bit rot during this critical moment.

TonyT

https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0050.mediawiki     ("Marek Palatinus and Michael Marsee quickly downgraded their nodes to restore a pre-0.8 chain as canonical, despite the fact that this caused them to sacrifice significant amounts of money and they were the ones running the bug-free version.")
This was caused by the infamous upgrade bug.

You can't have bit rot on the blockchain, unless every node had the same bit rot. If a node had bit rot, the rest of the non-bit rotted nodes would simply ignore it and carry on as usual.

The network is distributed across thousands of machines. An error in one wouldn't effect the remaining nodes.

Here is a PRIME example of the "Shit Slinging Brand Atheist"

I posted the "Treadmill of Atheism" to a bunch of atheist, including the Atheism group on Google Plus. And this morning I noticed basically a response video, though it is not labeled as such.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hltr8WM8BVo

First I want to say that I think everyone should have the right to get married and I don't see what religion has to do with Marriage. That being said. This guy brings up the Gay rights court cases that have been happening recently, and says that in the past the only reason they didn't legalize gay marriage was "tradition". That is him shitting in his hand. Then he proceeds to sling that shit, by generalizing ALL religions as "Tradition" and all tradition as "Bad".

The supreme court justices that stalled gay marriage were largely Catholic, but Atheists don't actually know enough about this stuff to see the difference.

And secondly, WESTERN MEDICINE IS A TRADITION, having a court system is tradition, etc. Atheists need to stop acting like all traditions are bad. PLEASE SCULPT YOUR SHIT BEFORE THROWING. Thank you.
I guess you must be one (and only one) that has clicked on his thumbs down count. Cheesy

I'm not sure how to do that. The tx was sent using blockchain.info wallet.
I've never used that wallet, I'm sorry I don't know.
That's the only thing I can suggest is to resend the transaction.
1348  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to btc in oprhaned block? on: October 21, 2014, 06:20:47 PM
Not sure why that one hasn't gone through again. Is it possible to resend the transaction?
1349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to btc in oprhaned block? on: October 21, 2014, 05:58:53 PM
The transaction would of been put back in the memory pool. Your coins are defiantly not lost. The transaction will end up in another block as long as you paid the correct fee.

What's the txid?
1350  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pay2SH - Strange transactions? on: October 21, 2014, 02:18:39 PM
I guess the miner had isStandard() flag disabled in their config for these transactions to be in the blockchain if they are nonstandard.

Don't worry BADecker. Dank will be along shortly backing you up with his golden nuggets of eternal wisdom.

While the Bible has all kinds of statements, it is from the past. So, until the scientists can virtually prove Bible statements wrong, these Bible statements stand.
Surely, that's the wrong way round. Shouldn't we assume the bible statements are fiction until they are proven true?

Also, if it is right, why do you think it is fair that Dank pay back over 10,000% of which he borrowed?
Somebody has to absorb the loss of purchasing power. Either dank, squall or a mixture of both.
Anyway, squall set out a generous reduced repayment amount dank had to pay.

Lots of people owe lots of people coins on this forum. Unfortunately dank feels the need to endlessly beg for more money, usually for scammy reasons, which is why he's a target.

Made his own bed.

Your statement assumes that ownership of these bitcoins, had they gone un-loaned, would have, effectively, been maintained until this time present.
The 'what if' is unknown, I cannot avoid making assumptions.

Had you made no statement, you would not have voiced an assumption.
Okay, I see where your coming from. Point taken.

What would of been the correct answer to rayban34's question, from your perspective?

If your looking for an interesting educational discussion, choosing a "dank thread" was a poor choice.
Was it?

It's a matter of your perspective and your participation.
Well generally what happens in a "dank thread" is he tells everyone his views, then if anyone disagrees with him, he replys with something completely unrelated or just simple dismisses and ignores it. That's why they always end up as "The Dank Show", purely for entertainment purposes.

Embrace love dank, let go of your hate. The universe is increasing it's vibration frequency, due to your inner unbalance. Love.

Suggest to educate self about forgiveness, and reach that high frequency yourself first.
I was actually just playing dank at his own silly games of just replying to a question with something completely unrelated. His favourite game. Smiley

Suggest to educate self about forgiveness, and reach that high frequency yourself first.
God requires repentance and so must we. Dank shows none.
Suggest you educate yourself about dank.

Edit: In my life experience, handing out any unearned forgiveness too easily and others will just walk all over you. Others (including myself) should correct their wrongdoing with high priority order of precedence, or they are not genuine.

1357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How IT people waste their time to making BTC sites, who do not have users on: October 19, 2014, 11:23:50 AM
There are a lot of people, especially IT people, who try to make BTC sites, but in fact BTC users market do not demand that or BTC users market is not enough large for so many projects. Why they are wasting their time, what you guys think ?
You could of probably said the same thing about the first websites when HTML was invented.
What was the point of building them when most of the world didn't know about the internet?

Build and people will come.

Dank rebels against your greed.
Ever heard of the blind leading the blind?

HOW CAN BITCOIN HEAL A SICKENED WORLD IF BITCOINERS DO NOT DIAGNOSE THE ILLNESS?
I've never been under any illusions from day 1 that bitcoin will cure a sickened world. It's another tool that will be used for both good and bad.

The root of all evil is the love of money.
If someone was murdered from the motivation of jealousy, how was that evil event related to finance?
1359  Other / Meta / Re: Need help going anonymous on Bitcointalk on: October 19, 2014, 07:55:17 AM
I wanted to set up a new account over TOR, but it says I have to pay a tax for that

Now here's the problem, all transactions on the Blockchain are logged, and if I send one from my main wallet they will automatically know it's me who possesses the account, just by tracking my wallet.

How can I overcome this problem?
You planning an attempt to scam us?
1360  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mathematical proof of god on: October 18, 2014, 08:32:38 PM
Can we have some actual math discussion? I love how dank referred to some set builder notation as "jargon", and then spews nothing but.
If your looking for an interesting educational discussion, choosing a "dank thread" was a poor choice.
