841  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: December 06, 2013, 12:29:41 AM
There's around 12 billion ounces of gold in existence and around 12 million Bitcoin. On a relative scale we're at about 1/1000. As old school commodity traders get sick of filing small chunks of their stash to take to CashforGold outside their local tesco stores to day trade, we'll see more and more people turning to Bitcoin. Rally.

am I missing something or is a 20 DVC giveaway equal to a $0.01 giveaway?

I am reading about NXT a lot, but still canīt understand how the calculation and validation is working?

Is my PC actually doint anything if I am running the client? Wht does it mean if I process a block? What happens in the background? (I would also try to summarize it and add it to the FAQ if I would understand that) Smiley

Could someone please answer this?

As I understand it running your client helps confirm transactions, confirming transactions rewards you from transaction fees based on how many coins you already have (more coins, higher reward).

But hw does the confirmation works? What is my client doing?

In the client area you'll see strings of numbers constantly flickering and changing in the peers and blocks area. These set's of flickering numbers are like happy mini robots that will work day and night to make the chain successful. Sorry don't know.

Chang hum, how many nxt did you lose?

500000, don't know what's more disappointing the money or the reaction from other more technical users!

Sorry to hear that Chang Hum.  I really believe Nxt has great potential.  It's a bummer that you had such a bad experience early on, but no reason for others not to buy in.

Cheers mate, yeah I like the idea too although I think the initial coin distribution is badly thought through and perhaps the project was overly rushed to market to get advantage over colored coins/mastercoin.  I might buy back in at 10x the price of last week haha!

Added warning for secret phrases < 30 symbols.
Unlike Bitcoin, Nxt presently relies solely on brainwallets as the means of user authentication.  There is no "cold storage" alternative offered.  I see this security model as a vulnerability, and as future PR problem hurting mainstream adoption if Nxt coin heists do start happening.   Brainwallets are surprisingly tough to get right for the unsophisticated user.

I just disconnected from Internet, started the client & generated offline cold storage address (wallet).

How to change the secret phrases ?

Passwords can not be changed. You will need to create a new account with a new password.

Why can't an address be created that you associate a password with like Bitcoin? aside from what's happened to my account which admittedly could have been due to my own failures/recent bitcointalk problems, if you want scale-ability the current set up will surely lead to problems as the user volume gets higher even with long phrases. You'll no doubt have phrases that will have been memorized by more than one user leading to a security floor. Even using Sha256, leads back to the original password or phrase!

Don't fall on his scam - it is all a clever plan for this bastard to get some free coins.
How can we be sure that he is actually been a victim and not trying to scam us?
Just hit the Ignore button imo.

Didn't plan on giving him anything for free, except maybe in my give away thread when I start it. Just curious about the situation.

I certainly didn't mean to sound like I was asking for handouts, maybe my earlier posts were hot headed but didn't mean to come across in this way.

I certainly don't need and wouldn't accept hand outs if offered. However having lost my coins and on seeing the amount of money being asked for coins at such an early stage, I hope everything is made water tight to protect against criminals quickly as there is certainly a high financial incentive in it for them and the whole project seems rushed and financially motivated imo.

Added warning for secret phrases < 30 symbols.
Added extra transaction validation (@hacker: attempt ur trick again)

good idea!

You mean - someone stole your money? Please use blockchain - http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=1 so we can find a thief...

Thanks this is all the information it gives me:

http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=17716754118323415513

It looks, like you found some hacker. I am not sure about everything here, but it looks like washing of dirty money:

Let's make a list of all NXT thieves:

1. Hacking thief who was stealing some accounts and then transferring:

innocent accounts:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=4024502032626639504 - NXT acc 4024502032626639504 - Chang Hum - was robbed by 2 accounts that belong to one hacker:
222816499517535106 - money were returned
17716754118323415513 - money were not returned

But if I follow money from 222816499517535106, I get to this chain of transactions:

No a few horders from the 100% premine did

a 10 digit password is quite suitable for everything else I've ever used!

You don't understand the concept of accounts in NXT and have no idea how market works, i wouldn't put it the way klee did, but you are clearly dumb.

Blaming others for your lack of knowledge is quite easy though, you can do that well.

You're right a project valued at 13m USD marketed to the general public shouldn't have a beta testing period before going to launch. It makes sense that weak passwords can be easily brute forced to stop idiots like me being a part of the system.
853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Trading Thread for Nxt :: Descendant of Bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 08:22:24 PM
Did you host your own version? I don't think so

Well as the bloke aboves said I've got a sub average IQ, so I'm not sure what you mean I think so, I had the files on my desktop, used java 7 RTE to run the files and went to localhost.

I'm going to get something to eat and cool down for a bit, feeling a bit gutted at the moment.

Yeah I did I realised right away but because the client was still beta with problems, I couldn't change it!

EDIT: V.important people if you do want to try this use a sentence not just a word. That's all that's needed for the access to your whole account.
Weak pwds are not clever thing to do in any case, software issues are irrelevant.

No they're not, as If i could have changed it i.e. set up new wallet to send coins to I would have. Software issues were the fault and it's why projects that value themselves at launch for 13m usd shouldn't skip beta testing or people get burned.
Being an idiot once and not using strong pwd is one thing forgivable. But being an idiot twice instead of recognising your stupidity and below average IQ while blaming the software is not.

Added to Ignore list for being mentally retarded!

What do you mean twice? the client stopped working after 2 mins after my coins were transfered in what the could I do. BTW you sound like a really arrogant shit.

It's true the project is early in its development stage, but it didn't value itself at that price, the market did.

You can't change passwords. You can send coins to other strong pass phrase address. There is a warning in multiple places to use strong (I suggest diceware) passwords. There should be a warning on client too but investing $1k in something and not reading a thing about it is nuts. Sorry.

Well a) i did read about it, b) i tried to send my coins to a more secure address and couldn't because the client wouldn't update until 5 versions later.

IMO launching a project that's been developed in a short time by one coder and valued at 13m usd without beta testing first is nuts.

I've used bitcoin for over 2 years with a similar password and never had a problem.

My coins were sent to another address by the looks of things, trying to see if I can get to the bottom of it now will post update if I do. Feel gutted over $1000 down the drain.
