461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: April 29, 2014, 04:25:14 AM
can someone explain to me how this is supposed to decentralize the internet? does it provide incentives for entrepreneurs to provide parallel or alternative data transmission models. does it reward mesh net node operators? i cant find anything about this sort of thing. From what i read it looks like a new layer that is going to be added to the top of existing infrastructure, if this is true it wouldn't be decentralizing the internet at all. decentralizing data storage maybe. but "the internet" can only be defined as the network of cables and satellites that connect computers. the internet is a collection of physical objects like routers and fiber optic cables and satellites, not data or information abstractions.

At present operators who provide storage to the P2P network are rewarded.  I don't know why you did not read that in the whitepapers.

There are two big problems with cloud storage operators:

(1) The possibility that the business is shut down (see case of megaupload)
(2) The lack of privacy.

Maidsafe decentralizes the storage of data and therefore of information.

i mean yea you can read right there in my quote that i said "decentralizing data storage maybe" and then went on to draw the distinction between decentralizing the way that data is stored and decentralizing the internet. so i take it from your comment that your are saying that you do not know of any mechanism in maidsafe that will act as incentive for the decentralization of the internet?

It's probably best to direct your question at Fraser Hutchinson Maidsafe's most credible staff member on the development board rather than ask someone who doesn't understand your question https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/maidsafe-development

perhaps but i was trying to avoid wasting the time of someone important if there were people here who knew the answer. maybe thats not going to happen though. point taken.

You'd expect to find someone important there, but you'd be surprised. Don't forget this is a company that just diluted investors money 1 part to 2 with Mastercoin junk. They're either a smooth bunch of criminals taking advantage of an unregulated market or thick as pig shit.

After interacting with David I think it's the later but he has shown his blatent dishonesty several times now. Please read this thread baring in mind I'm buymaidsafe and both David Irvine and Bob Marins claims are both illogical and outright lies (for the purpose of distracting/misleading investors) https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/maidsafe-development/QYrB4pC1B_0

is this on the free market yet? Fuck 25k btc ipo. Are you crazy? Bring it on exchange and let market decide what a good price is. Unbelievable 25k just for a video and a website. Ipo-investors must not be in their right mind.  25k for promises - wtf? Nobody learned?

an [ann] consisting of two links. wtf is going on?

Which brings me on to my next point... Don't smoke crack!!

Compairing the price paid by BTC and MSC Backers of Maidsafe IPO I find Out this:

I think MaidSafe team should take action and Pay to BTC Backers more Bonus to cover this unfair IPO, Period.
You are right, MaidSafe team should pay more attention on this.

Fucking brilliant, I understand now!! If you want people to understand simple concepts you have to draw them a fucking picture!

That image is actually out by a bit or a lot depending on how you look at it, you're damn right about one thing it wasn't a fair distribution it was a scandal!

Mastercoin traded at .06 before they started fiddling the price. Also the market depth (entire buyside of masterxchange) before their involvement on masterxchange was very small like $25k-$30k it's only  $46k now I just checked! Daily volume was around $500-$2k.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mastercoin side of the crowdsource raised 281348201 in maidsafe coins
The Bitcoin side of the crowdsource raised 174668200 in maidsafe coins

38% of All maidsafes went to people who paid by Bitcoin directly in exchange for contributing Bitcoins that can be sold immediately for around $2.9 million usd  7339(raised bitcoin)*$400 (achievable bitcoin price for this kind of volume)

62% of all maidsafes went to people who paid by Mastercoin in exchange for contributing Mastercoins that can be sold immediately for around $46 Thousand Dollars (the entire current order book for mastercoins)

The contribution of technology is a null point as this is freely available using a system that would only accept Bitcoin.

Based on the above I think a much fairer valuation of Mastercoin taking into account market depth would be: 107 (That's the $46k in bitcoin)/281348201 (mastercoins raised -bitcoin bitcoin contribution). Unfortunately this figure is so minute, my google calculator can't put that many 0's after the decimal so I'll leave it for someone else to calculate! I can't be bothered as I can easily argue why Mastercoin is worthless.

If David needed to raise around $10 million originally and he's only ended up with $2.9million Investors should ask to see what he needed the money for, if he's got enough to proceed and if he's really got the intelligence to carry on with such an ambitious plan. To me it looks like the only thing they've got right is the marketing bullshit which is very impressive.

Why was Safecoin offered at a 50% discount when priced in Mastercoin compared to Bitcoin? Before the announcement, Mastercoin was just below 0.1 BTC. Surely it is not hard to see that once the IPO pricing for Safecoin was announced, Mastercoin will jump up to 0.2. Was this an attempt by the MC ppl to pump up the price/value of Mastercoin? It just does not make sense. Let's see If Maidsafe or Mastercoin foundation can give a clear & honest answer to this question.

Your point is spot on, but your figures are incorrect Mastercoin was priced at 0.06 and they announced to change the price to 0.08 (at this point I warned Nick Lambert of maidsafe via email in a joking way about this sort of price manipulation) So was dumbfounded when on the 2nd announcement (the price was at 0.08) they said they were moving the price to 0.2!!

Another http://www.buymastercoin.com/ ? That site left a bad taste in many mouths. How is this going to be different?

We are not buymastercoin.com or related to that, we are just using the strikingly site builder.

jeroenn13, I don't think it's likely you are, but the google dev board for maidsafe have called you out as a scammer! https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/maidsafe-development

You can't post and defend yourself to this baseless allegation unless you're a member of the group now!

I will take a look at the discussion where we are accused of scamming (We will not ever scam anyone)
Please PM for questions.

Thank you.

I see your post, but would you address this please:  https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/maidsafe-development/QYrB4pC1B_0

I've now got my third ban from this site, after getting heavily attacked by David Irvine and Bob Marin, on the same thread. They both concocted their own individual reasons to ban me (both made up, both illogical with the facts presented!). Bob Marin attacks me for being the person behind your buymastercoin.com business and goes on further to say:

There is some poetic justice in the fact that you just lost money. All those people I had to talk to after you sold them MSC at your scam site [refering to buymastercoin.com I'm not related to] are still at a huge loss, but that doesn't deter you from trying to scam again does it?

To be clear I know Bob Marin and David Irvine are both lairs so I'm not taking what Bob Marin said seriously or making any accusation towards you at all jeroenn13

kind of

Grin Only teasing you bud, but these are on an open market and even if you did sell them to someone at 100% above the market rate it would hardly be fair to trick them just because they weren't as fortunate as you to know what reality is, would it?

It's hard to believe they've been looking at crypto currencies for 3 months as they don't seem to understand even the most basic things about them! looks like people are still buying them but not sure what will happen when the two 3rds of the market who got their coins for free join in the fun.

Sorry, what 2/3 of the market got MaidSafecoin for free?

No worries, I'm implying Mastercoin were given 2 thirds of the market therefore I'm also implying Mastercoins are worthless (because they've just committed a serious fraud! among additional reasons Grin)

I'll check the two thirds maths as was approx and off the top of my head:

456016401 Maidsafe were issued in exchange for 95801 Mastercoins (around 20%% of all existing!)

Maidsafe Received 7339 bitcoin which they exchanged for 174668200 maidsafecoins

174668200/456016401 = .38  Cheesy pretty close for a guess!!

I also note the poster adjacent to this was just deleted. Yes it was a bit harsh. It is dangerous to censor though in such circumstances

This isn't a moderated topic, how can censorship be happening here?
I think that just demonstrates how much 'conspiracy' is brought on to these boards, too many times.

@jubalix. It was my post, and i deleted it because i noticed afterwards i had posted the same link as drawingthesun previously.

I also deleted a post because it was a bit too harsh @jubalix good to hear people like you speaking up and knowing the worlds not gone totally mad!

what is situation with this safecoin? scam or not?

It seems no core Maidsafe dev has spoken.

All the code repo updates are mainly from the time of the first marketing hype 3 months ago [wired1].

I'm not sure, it seems like this was a marketing blitz as I don't see any real substance.

what is situation with this safecoin? scam or not?

I'm trying to think this one through...  They received $3000000 from investors and valued that as being less than half as valuable as getting tokens issued by Mastercoin.

Investors get: 1/3rd of all tokens for supplying $3000000 cash.
Mastercoin get: 2/3 of all tokens for issuing the tokens and exchanging their own worthless tokens at preferential rates.

As tokens are freely ($1+dust) available through counterparty I would have given more tokens to the people supplying the cash  Grin

I think it's amazing that Mastercoin managed to get these suckers to buy nearly all the coins in existence at 3 times their normal market rate, they must have the best sales people in the world!!!

jesus did maidsafecoin really drop by >50%??  https://www.masterxchange.com/market.php?currency=maid

buy and sell wall so far apart, if 1 second someone buys and then straight after someone sells its dropped almost 50% in 10 seconds

at what price was maidsafecoins purchased at in the ipo? what price did ya get each coin at?

purchase price was about 0.00004348 per coin 23000 coins in total per btc

It was a fixed swap at 23800 mate, meaning the price was a fixed swap of 0.000042
