2281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quantum resistance on: October 04, 2020, 11:36:47 PM
The company Dwave is now shipping $15M quantum computers with 5000Qbits of processing power. For comparison, the rest of the vendors are at ~50qbits. I know that $15M is quite a lot of money, but in 2 year that figure will be half. As you probably know, quantum calculations can be multiple times faster than any computer we have today.

The bottom line is, these "quantum computers" do not offer superior calculation capacity at reduced price. GPUs made by NVIDIA or AMD offer significantly better performance at lower cost.

Quantum computers are a vaporware theoretical technology that are nowhere near to existing in the real world. They're like AI, flying cars and neural interfaces for PCs.

You'll know real quantum computers exist the day NVIDIA and AMD GPUs become obsolete. Until then everything said about "quantum computers" is nothing but marketing hype.
2282  Economy / Economics / Re: Stocks fall down due to trump catching the virus on: October 02, 2020, 11:59:13 PM
Trump advocates tax cuts to boost job creation and economic growth. While Joe Biden advocates massive tax hikes that normally carry an opposite effect. I would expect a massive stock market crash if Biden beat Trump in the 2020 elections. Democrats love corona virus lockdowns and tax hikes. Both are massive destroyers of jobs and business in the country.

One of the biggest US stock market crashes of all time occurred when the world trade centers were bombed on 9/11/2001. Investors are quick to sell and slow to buy with projections focusing upon worst case scenarios rather than what the smartest investor is likely to do. Its the lowest common denominator and least intelligent investor that defines what market trends will be moreso than the inverse opposite. Mad races to the bottom, which appear silly in hindsight are normalized.
2283  Economy / Economics / Re: Mathematics and economy on: October 01, 2020, 11:59:35 PM
The degree to which nations pursue fields like science or engineering is influenced by culture. Nations like japan with massive followings of (science fiction based) anime have a huge collective interest in pursuing science and engineering. The united states has long debated how it might encourage youth to become more interested in science. So that america need not rely so heavily on foreign countries to fill science and engineering jobs and can reduce the degree to which specialized technology needs are outsourced to foreign nations.

It might be said the USA is falling behind russia in terms of developing emerging defense technology like hypersonic missiles due to america's mainstream negative view of science. This could be changing to a slight degree thanks to DC and marvel comic movies making youth interested in fields like math and science.

I think it is important for world powers to have a good base of math and science. The US has greater flexibility thanks to its massive capital and investment base. But it could be falling behind.
2284  Economy / Economics / Re: FOLLOW THIS RULES TO BECOME RICH on: October 01, 2020, 11:54:05 PM
The most neglected aspect to success is mental training and discipline which coupled together form a good attitude and good life habits. The biggest difference between success and failure is the mental state. Finance, entrepreneurship, investment. Anything involving money making is usually a competitive realm. Many forms of mental training that are successful for competitive athletes are also successful for those who have aspirations of success in business or investment worlds. There is a certain mentality and way of looking at the world that breeds success which people can work to develop. The difference between rich and poor are manifest simply in the mental state and choices people make. On the flip side, questioning and changing the way one views and thinks about the world, can be one of the hardest things a person can do.
2285  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe NBA is rigged? on: September 30, 2020, 07:17:41 PM

That's the Tim Donaghy and the animals scandal.

Tim Donaghy claimed he could directly influence an NBA game by 6 points through strategically called fouls. He would target specific players calling fouls on them early in the game to try to shake them and discourage them. He also fed behind the scenes locker room information. Their winning accuracy was 70% to 80%.

Everyone involved profited truck loads of money. Very few if any were able to enjoy it. Many of the gamblers involved had cocaine addictions, health problems and other issues which prevented them from enjoying their winnings. Its an amazing story. Would highly recommend looking it up to anyone interested in gambling.

....

As far as the NBA being rigged, I think large segments of professional sports became far more rigged post 2018. That was around the time wallstreet investment bankers bought up a majority of sportsbooks to consolidate and centralize markets. Levels of corruption in sports greatly increased thereafter, with correlation being causation. Not every game is rigged. But sports on average are more rigged than they used to be.
2286  Economy / Economics / Re: Non-Government Economic System (Anarchy) on: September 30, 2020, 05:59:37 PM
I think true anarchy can only exist within human vs nature or human vs the weather/elements scenarios. Human settlements gravitate towards an abstract of structure and stability which may always prevent anarchy from becoming feasible. If governments are removed, then organized crime takes over. If organized crime can't fill the power vacuum then a system of city elders or community leaders establish some semblance of order. There's never a scenario where lawlessness and anarchy are preferable to some predictable format or structure for people.

It happens in the middle east where organized criminal groups like the taliban, ISIS and muslim brotherhood have risen up to fill power vacuums left behind by toppling governments. Mexico has seen drug cartels overtake regional and state bureaucracies. The pro anarchist slogan may be one where society reverts to pre agriculture society when governments are removed from power. But from history we can see this never happens.

Much of the content was provided through AfDB’s partnership with Microsoft.

the Nigerian government is heading towards diversifying the economy by opening it up to cryptocurrency space

2 points stand out here.

#1  "This will be great because they have a partnership with microsoft." That's what people said about ethereum and Vitalik Buterin having connections with microsoft years ago. ETH isn't doing so well today unfortunately.

#2  The nigerian government is one of those african administrations which tried to legislate controversial social media taxes. These are taxes africans pay if they use social media platforms like facebook, instagram or twitter. Africans are essentially being taxed to use foreign social media platforms that african governments do nothing to maintain, operate or regulate. One might say its unlikely a government which implements such policies to be capable of real innovation or progress in society. Which could mean there is a negative precedent present somewhere in this project.
2288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency for Trading on: September 29, 2020, 09:34:59 PM
During the lockdown even the stocks crashed, only the cryptocurrency market stood strong. With the lockdown the city has topped third position in terms of cryptocurrency users and trading volume.

Publicly unpopular lockdowns could undermine faith and confidence in governments minting fiat currency. Which in turn could compel investors to withdraw money from fiat holdings in stock markets. Investing funds long term in gold or crypto markets instead. Crypto based markets which could be considered better protected against inflation and state based mismanagement. These trends in sufficient volume could contribute to declines in fiat market valuation and gains in crypto market cap.

I would guess bitcoin and crypto are on the rise. Especially in countries where bank withdrawal limits and assorted restrictions are implemented.
2289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israeli draft bill may ease the heavy taxation. on: September 25, 2020, 02:38:07 PM
The american income tax in 1913 was 1%. Economic growth in that era normalized at around 10% per year.

Today income taxes are far far higher and economic growth is doing exceedingly well if it manages 2% annually.

High taxes are suffocating. They strangle job markets and cripple economic growth. The mentality many have where they believe the solution to every problem on earth is granting governments higher tax revenues and greater power is a negative hindrance to society.
2290  Economy / Economics / Re: IMPACTS OF ROBOTICS ON WORLD ECONOMY on: September 24, 2020, 04:22:43 PM
Job Creation: Many people fail to realize that robots are creating new, high paying jobs that require skilled workers.

Would robots be cost effective if they did not kill many more jobs than they create?

Society can adapt to massive job loss. Culture can shift to become less reliant upon governments and the private sector for bread. Self sufficient farming and off grid living would become norms. The better suited people are to producing necessities like food and energy. The less they need jobs and working hours.

Of course the real issue is productivity advancing significantly thanks to technology and automation. While the tangible rewards are not equally or fairly distributed.
2291  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Privileges as Hostage: How it could Push Countries Toward China on: September 24, 2020, 03:47:09 PM
Philippines is not opposing Chinas expansion

If china's short term goal was to take over and conquer hong kong.

Would it make sense to oppose china's expansion in the south china sea. Knowing their next target for takeover would likely be the philippines years later.

China is currently building 3 or 4 additional aircraft carriers. Presumably their long term goals involve an expansion into the pacific.
2292  Economy / Economics / Re: Trump's Economy or Biden’s Economy - which version is better. on: September 24, 2020, 03:29:14 PM

Trump has miles of boats organizing victory parades for him. That has to count for something. And who are these mystery boaters, one might wonder. Are they russian agents? Nope. They're americans who saw their health insurance premiums double or triple under obamacare which was passed when Joe Biden was Vice President of the country alongside Obama.

Most don't follow current events closely enough to know what is truly happening in the world. Trump has done a lot of good for his country as President. While Biden has been in office near to 50 years and no one can remember a single good thing he has done.
2293  Other / Off-topic / Re: TESLA WILL BE THE FUTURE on: September 24, 2020, 12:48:54 PM
In the original Fast and Furious movie, there's a scene where Vin Diesel tells Paul Walker he owes him an 11 second car. Some tesla's do a quarter mile faster than 11 seconds. The tesla plaid due out in 2022 can do it in 9 seconds. Most analysts look at the range statistic without considering performance or overall cost. If another EV manufacturer were to match tesla's range or performance, I doubt they could match the price. In that sense tesla could be a bit underrated. A value gap which could inevitably widen if tesla's september 22nd battery day announcements come to fruition.

If anyone's interested in tesla cars from an engineering perspective. Here's a good channel devoted to the topic:

2294  Economy / Economics / Re: Internet shutdowns by governments are bad for corporate marketing on: September 23, 2020, 01:17:15 PM
I have a reason to believe that civilians deprived of internet access is dangerous for companies trying to make a profit.

If you've ever read a news headline where a business claimed to suffer large monetary losses due to website defacement or IT attacks resulting in site downtime.

They calculate those statistics by multiplying the number of hours their website was down times their average revenue per hour.

If amazon's revenue per hour is $2 million. And their website was defaced by a 9 year old hacker and down for 5 hours. They might claim $10 million in damages.

In that sense I think what you're saying there is acknowledged by the legal system as an industry standard since the 1980s.

Other countries appear to be importing Sudan's internet shutdown techniques

I think its commonly referred to as a "great firewall of china" or "internet kill switch".

It wasn't so long ago that many american politicians were saying the united states needed an internet kill switch like the one china has.
2295  Economy / Economics / Re: I was Right again about USA dollars Going in europe on: September 23, 2020, 12:39:41 PM
All this does not prove that the US dollar is going to Europe

I think he's referring to the claim of federal reserve TARP bailouts from the 2008 economic crisis continuuing into 2020.

There are sources which claim the bailouts never ceased and european banks have been bailed out by the US fed to maintain global economic stability.

For those who enjoy conspiracy theories, there is always a chance some of that american bailout money is being funneled to terrorist groups, drug cartels and criminal enterprises under bank money laundering programs which have been a staple of the industry for decades afaik.
2296  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Privileges as Hostage: How it could Push Countries Toward China on: September 23, 2020, 12:24:10 PM
All right, so the Philippines will be stripped of its Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) tariff privileges by the European Union (EU). The reason is that the EU finds the human rights situation in the country disturbing and so to make sure the country will do something about it they need to impose a harsh economic penalty.

The EU is facing a budget shortfall following the exodus of the UK under #brexit. Tax hikes often naturally follow.

The philippines (and other nations, I would guess) were selected to fill the gap. It could be related to the philippines opposing china's expansion in the south china sea as some have said.

After former philippine President Ferdinand Marcos passed away in 1989. The billions of dollars his administration stole were never found. IMO the funds were likely stashed in an offshore tax haven. To a certain degree this reality could reflect why Duterte and many other world leaders implement certain policy decisions which are unpopular, unsupported and not understood by the majority of people.
2297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s Energy Consumption Grows, Now Comparable to Czech Republic on: September 23, 2020, 11:47:48 AM
Environmentally unfriendly hydrocarbon based bitcoin miners are usually subsidized by local governments in exchange for creating regional jobs. Bitcoin mining being a flexible industry with high mobility leans towards it tapping surplus and renewable sources of electricity which are cheaper than coal, oil and other sources of power considered environmentally damaging. The main exception being regions like venezuela with "free electricity" and little in the way of economic or job opportunities. Green sources of power with a lower carbon footprint are the path of least resistance for bitcoin mining ops which generates impetus for them being the industry norm.

A high percentage of bitcoin miners tapping surplus sources of electricity, which are cheaper. Could imply little or no new power plant construction to fulfill growing demand. Which is another key point to consider.
2298  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid economic impact - How can Bitcoin help to boost global economy? on: September 17, 2020, 03:14:37 AM
Boosting global economies implies finding better methods of problem solving. Are there problems people currently face, which bitcoin could better solve in contrast to fiat currency? The answer has always been a resounding yes. The problem has usually been disseminating information to make the public more aware of how they can personally benefit and thrive through crypto currencies.

ICOs did a good job of approaching celebrities like Mike Tyson to run bitcoin ATMs and rapper TI to help with crypto business promotion. But there hasn't yet been an ambassador of crypto with a compelling story to capture peoples imaginations and get them excited about crypto and the opportunities it provides, as of yet.

the paper money problem

Correct!

3% inflation means the value of a fiat currency declines by approximately 3% annually. Bitcoin's long term trend is one of appreciating value, where its value increases over time. 5% annual percentage yield on a savings account might seem like a good deal to most. Bitcoin has the potential to smash those gains, especially after a halving occurs.

I was inspired by someone named Demi on Instagram and Tiktok.
She has a program/project called Trade Me Project With Demi.
Her goal is to get a house from trading/barter.

She started this project with a bobby pin. Yes, a bobby pin.

You won't believe it that the bobby pin leads her into earings, snowboard, xbox one, macBook pro, etc.
currently, she got a mini cooper car from this project.

Hi.   Smiley

I just want to take a second to say the origins story of this idea was a website from 2005 entitled "one red paperclip".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip

The owner of the website successfully trades upwards from a red paperclip to eventually owning a house.

Good luck on your journey!
2300  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin dont pay our billls we need passive income on: September 16, 2020, 11:58:12 PM
Love your analysis connecting the basic needs. Community food programs though are something that have failed spectacularly in erstwhile USSR. A better approach towards food is to find local alternatives, innovation in farming methods towards sustainable farming. Growing enough food in terms of quantity and quality for everyone depends on better farming methods.

Apart from this, the needs hierarchy is also about intangible needs like love, loyalty and security. Those come from better access to resources like education, healthcare, infrastructure and of course, law and order. All of these have nothing to do with a universal basic income but come from professional governance.

Communal food programs are a way of life in cuba.

Quote
Urban agriculture is a big deal in Cuba. Food gardens – termed organopónicos – make up 8% of land in Havana, and 3.4% of urban land across the island. The country enjoys unprecedented levels of self-sufficiency, with small, local operations producing 90% of all its fruit and vegetables.

https://sustainablefoodtrust.org/articles/viva-la-produccion-urban-farming-in-cuba/

Sustainable farming can involve practices like crop rotation and reduced reliance on petroleum derived pesticides and fertilizers. The overall best method IMO is people growing their own. The experience and learning base that can be gained through the process of growing things. It can be a valuable necessity towards developing sustainable farming and good practices.

One might argue governance is merely a mirror reflection of the public it represents. If people desire professional and knowledgeable governance, they must be professional and knowledgeable themselves. Standards are raised across the board. Or they don't elevate much if at all.
