1381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GHash.IO is standing at 51% on: June 14, 2014, 07:47:25 AM
We should see CEX.IO's statement and see what they are going to do.
Depending on how that unravels, it wouldn't be a bad idea to DDoS.

But DDoSing or Booting a service wouldn't really call anything in our favor. Bitcoin and other cryptos have a special feature, one that many currencies don't have. People aren't denied to mine, or have it. Nobody can confiscate it.

If we DDoS CEX/GHash just because they're mining, and yes, they might be getting close to 51%, that's still not a excuse to say, "Yeah. They're getting close to doing something dangerous. Let's make a exception." Because if that was the case, I don't think Bitcoin would be were it is now.

We are not talking about denying anyone the ability to mine here.  We are talking about ways the community can proactively take action in order to reduce the risk of another market crash.  Arguing that taking an action which some people might consider unethical in response to a credible threat to billions of dollars of market capitalization just to protect the interest of a few, mostly anonymous individuals at GHash.io doesn't make any business sense at all.  The community has already appealed to GHash.io to voluntarily restrict their mining (as did BTCGuild before them) in order to avoid going over 40%.  They made their intentions very clear by their actions and so it is time to consider other options.

Exactly. You can't just trust them. Who are they? Nobody knows who's behind CEX and GHash.
We could and should react if they keep doing this.
1382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal surveying about bitcoin. on: June 14, 2014, 07:45:41 AM
This isn't paypal trying to "integrate" Bitcoin, it's paypal assessing the THREAT of Bitcoin.

Paypal is an awfully greedy company, we shouldn't be trying to get Bitcoin involved with Paypal, we should be lobbying to get eBay to adopt Bitcoin and/or integrate with a reputable service like Coinbase so we no longer need paypal for eBay.

You my friend have no idea how is PayPal working or how are they making money.  Bitcoin is no threat to PayPal AT ALL. Bitcoin is possible tool that they can use to earn even more money! Only question in their mins is: "How spread it is, and do our customers use it and does it pays off to get trough HELL of administration to enable usage of it trough our service".
And last part is what's hlding em back (administration). Once laws get in place, they will jump on it like teenage boy would jump on porn star.

We have to stop using PayPal. It's no good.
1383  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGOX huge asset - Mark Karpelès owns domain "bitcoins.com" on: June 14, 2014, 07:40:55 AM

Strange he owns bitcoins.com 9 years before bitcoin was created.

Mark karpeles = satoshi ?

He bought it from someone else. He hasn't registered it himself.
1384  Economy / Speculation / Re: GHash.IO hashrate on: June 14, 2014, 07:34:01 AM
Who are the people controlling GHash.io?
I know about Jeff and his relation to CEX.IO: https://twitter.com/jeff_smith01
Probably has something to do with GHash.IO as well.
I thought that he was just their PR person?

A whois request gives Alex Luts as the person who the domains are registered to.
1385  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: June 14, 2014, 07:25:34 AM
BTCE is my favorite. i also trade at Stamp and Bitfinex, but honestly, i'm going to leave Bitfinex. they no longer share liquidity with Bitstamp, and traders are very over-leveraged. the order book is extremely thin. if we see a flash crash, we will see margin calls/halted trading. $26 million USD in longs? give me a break...

These last few days were pretty good for Bitfinex. They almost became the new MtGox Cheesy

England vs Italy is a really interesting matchup, could go either way. Last time they met it was 0-0 and they had to go to shootout at Euro 2012 quarter finals. I'm gonna go either with Italy winning it 2:1 or a tie.

It's almost like Spain vs Netherlands.

England might win this lol. But still I do expect see more than 2 goals.

What's your take on over/under ?

I think it'll be 0-0 or 1-1.

Man Spain really got owned like newbies  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Yeah. You could see that Netherlands were playing with their heart and really wanted to win. Spain was pretty confused.

1390  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone using Bitmessage? on: June 13, 2014, 11:50:41 PM
Have it downloaded, but none of my close friends use it. Have the same problem with Threema on Android.
Shame, would love to use both daily.
1391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 13, 2014, 11:44:59 PM
This price is gonna last until the SR auction. Probably. So that whales can get cheaper coins.

2 weeks of sideways

that would suck

Maybe not sideways, maybe lower.

When's your bedtime? I'll be off in half an hour.
1392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much BTC have you sold due to GHash.IO 51% threat? on: June 13, 2014, 11:43:38 PM
Not a single satoshi. If you want to get rid of any, shoot me a PM Tongue

Listening to Relish, by Joan Osborne. Amazing album and great production.
On vinyl, of course.
Any other vinyl lovers?

Go Luke!

Truly is a shame what CEX.IO is doing.
1398  Economy / Economics / Re: Silkroad seized bitcoins to impact price? on: June 13, 2014, 04:15:40 PM
The price didn't fall because of this, and it will not.
It's a private auction and has nothing to do with exchanges and therefore nothing to do with the current Bitcoin/USD price.

Market participants do not seem to agree with your right given the drop today.

The 51% situation contributed a lot to the drop. Don't disregard that.
1399  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Hrvatski (Croatian) on: June 13, 2014, 04:00:39 PM

Dobro je zasad. Bitno da se smanjuje. Ali ovo je jos uvijek opasno. <40% je pozeljno.

Zbog takvih ljudi sam prosli put ja zaradio na padu BTC-a.
