482  Economy / Speculation / Re: Heading into 2024 crypto year: what are your hopes and fears? on: January 08, 2024, 03:08:40 PM
Nobody can tell for sure what will happen or of we will break the immense psychological resistance of 100k, but we can talk about hunches or sentiment.

Taking into account the news about incoming ETFs, the halving in the next months, the price action of 2023 and the pattern of cycles that repeat every 4 years approximately, I am quite optimistic for Bitcoin, and I'm almost sure that if Bitcoin takes off, many alts will have an incredible ROI, especially low caps.

We could lose it all too, the future is uncertain by nature, so I would avoid going all-in too, not to get our fingers burnt.
483  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling on: January 08, 2024, 02:56:06 PM
But the OP wasn't asking about taking advantage of vulnerabilities, but about the ability to predict the outcomes if someone got the full algorithm. Like if someone got a master key or something like that.

I'm not a technical specialist so I get lost in technicalities, but the way I see it, the algorithm applies a set of rules and, given an input, returns an output; the problem is that for one input, the output is not unique, so I don't think it would work the way the OP was asking. That would happen if you got a list of numbers pre-selected by the casino that go one after another, but I think that algorithms are more "dynamic" than that... but let's see what math savvies have to tell us.

Because, the way I see it, even if there is nothing like perfect randomness (at least not in anything created by a human being) randomizers work so well that they almost work as if they were 100% random, and there are so many variables to take into account that it would be impossible even for the casino itself to predict their own outputs.
484  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anyone here who retired with Gambling winnings ? on: January 08, 2024, 06:05:19 AM
Anyone here who retired with Gambling winnings ?  If not, how much you think is sufficient to retire as Gambling winning ?
It is impossible to win the target amount and then retire after reaching it. Gambling is full of twists and turns, maybe today you are lucky by winning a certain amount of money, tomorrow it is not certain that luck will come back with you. Gambling is not a job that can give you regular income every week or every month, when you target a certain amount before retirement, that's when you have started an adventure that is very difficult to reach the finish line.

Most games are designed to make you lose in the long term by a slight difference, so chances are that the more you play the more money you end losing. Luck doesn't last forever, and even if a lucky player won 10k, if he kept gambling with it most probably he would end up losing at least a part.

That's why I especially like lotteries. Because, if you win the big prize, you can forget about continuing playing, because you already won enough for a luxurious retirement. And even if you continued playing, the cost of each ticket is so low that it wouldn't impact in the prize won (unless you play with thousands of tickets per draw).

486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lotteries and possibility vs. probability on: January 08, 2024, 05:52:24 AM
Last weekend the second greatest draw of the year was held in my country, Spain.

As I said a few weeks ago, December the 22nd 2/3 of the Spanish population play the Christmas National Lottery. But on January the 6th there is a "second chance" to win, in a lottery called "El Niño" (The Child). The greatest prize is exactly half of the prize compared to the former, but chances of winning any prize are quite bigger.

I don't think we could say that this is due to a preference for bigger prizes rather than higher probabilities, because the thrill before Christmas is higher so that's the main reason I think. But in some degree I think that it is the cause in part.
487  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Use your winning responsibly on: January 07, 2024, 12:14:33 PM
The only thanks I can give is to livecasino that do give we his campaign participants free spin. Last year, I remember I won over $450 in two free spins. The second was just two weeks ago that I won over $250. These money are the ones I used for something good.

-snip-

WOW! that's great! I haven't had the same luck with the free spins, but reading that is encouraging. Congratulations!

And congratulations to the OP too! if you wanted that TV so much and will bring you moments of joy, you did the right thing I think. Enjoy it Smiley

489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Alter Ego In Gambling on: January 07, 2024, 11:26:57 AM
In my case, I don't think I change in any way when I gamble. I try to keep the coherence in the way I do all things, and if my personality is rational in my everyday life I strongly believe that it is the same in my activity online in general. "Porfirii" is a good example of what I'm saying: looking at how I write here you can make a good idea of my real nature. In the rest of online environments it is the same.
490  Economy / Gambling / Re: Finding a Bug on: January 07, 2024, 11:04:08 AM
-snip-
I also wanted to share my opinion on your second question:
How does someone go about reporting a bug to a casino a still hold casino accountable to pay a bounty?
You can't hold them accountable especially if they don't have a bug bounty program. Even those who have it but don't want to pay you can claim it's a duplicate and reject your report.

That is the problem if the site doesn't have bug bounty program. You can't force them to pay or give you some reward for your work.
But if you want clear conscience, you can report it to them without waiting for any incentive.
After all, they are not forcing you to report. It is in your morality whether you report it or not.

Nowadays having a bug hunting program is highly recommended for all casinos online, because otherwise they are facing an unnecessary risk. I hope the OP is eventually rewarded because it is in the best interest of both parties. My two sats.
491  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sports betting arbitrage on: January 07, 2024, 09:32:28 AM
Not in sports betting precisely, but I tried arbitrage in trading long time ago. It didn't work as I expected and never tried again, although I think that with the proper knowledge and well done it can be very profitable, but I didn't have the patience needed, and the way I did it there was still a risk factor.

Is it the same with sports betting arbitrage? or it doesn't have any risks? I suppose that if it is not risky more and more people will eventually try it and in the end odds in different sportsbooks will end being similar. Does it make sense?
492  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just a reminder. Don't lose yourself in the process. on: January 06, 2024, 05:23:33 PM
People look for a purpose in their lives and some of them devote to their jobs, neglecting everything else. It might not be the best approach to living a fulfilling life, but it works for some, even if it is not the most ethical alternative in many cases. But, is the father or mother who are devoted to their family but aren't willing to have a job and let them live in poverty any better? There must be a balance.

A colleague in my work is retiring early, even if the effect in his income from now on will be terrible compared to what he would get if he held on for a couple of years more. He says that his work makes him angry or stressed sometimes, even at home, and that he doesn't want his son to remember him as the ogre he has become. And he has all my respect for that.

494  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your gambling life could affect your relatives lifes. on: January 06, 2024, 04:27:40 PM
It is the same, I think, with all addictions, or at least in most of them. Each one has its own negative social effects, and the impact of some of them is higher than others. In the case of gambling there are also degrees of addiction and, depending on the individual's circumstances, more or less damage for their relatives, friends and other people in his social or spatial circle.

The true danger in most severe cases is that, unlike what happens in the case of drug-addicts for example, is that the physical effects on the gambler can only be seen in the very long term (if they don't sleep well, don't eat well...), which makes it harder for others to know that there is a problem and, therefore, help in any way.

Hey porfirii and AOBTERS, how's the new year going. Well I just wanted to let you know that I have published the translated version of the AOBT Ann thread on my other forum local board and service board. Here is the link as requested ALLIANCE OF BITCOINTALK TRANSLATORS [NAIJA BOARD ANN THREAD] it would also be a good idea, if some of our members also teleported and created an Ann thread in their various local board. I already sighted members like learn bitcoin and paid. Just few of us but I'm not sure they published theirs there.

-snip-

Dear Hatchy, thank you for your efforts. It seems that the admins in the other forum don't care about publishing there the services we provide here, which is great. Thank you for bringing it up.

About teleporting, in my case I created an account there with the same nickname as here to avoid phishing, but I'm not sure about it yet.

-snip-

And also, I just ranked up to a senior member  Grin cheers to me. I would love if you are less busy to update my new rank on the Ann thread thanks.

Congratulations!!! It makes a significant qualitative and quantitative difference. I remember how excited I was the day I got it.

I cannot edit the images right now from my smartphone, but I'll do it during the weekend from my computer. Keep up Hatchy!!!
496  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IMPORTANT! Always check your Seed twice. on: January 05, 2024, 06:23:28 AM
Unless you have been a victim of writing the wrong word of a Seed down or the incorrect order of it, you do not know how frustrating and desperate such a mistake can make you feel.

When creating a new Seed, always double check its validity.  Not only by writing it down and double checking it with your own eyes.  To me, even if the Wallet checks two or three words, it means nothing.  There could always be an error and I try to minimize it.

The way I do it is as soon as I write down the Seed, I close the Wallet, then re launch it and use the Restore option.  Enter the Seed from the paper I just wrote and go from there.

I wrote words in the wrong order before and at first glance it looked right.  Next time I had to restore my Seed from my paper, it said it was wrong.  I got desperate for days, until I tried to swap the word with the previous and luckily it did work for me.

Check your Seed twice.  Do not be lazy.

That's the kind of trouble you don't think about until it happens to you. Not the same case, but I have had a few problems with wrong passwords that took me several days also to solve, which is also a very frustrating situation.

I always check twice (at least) the digits of the addresses before sending any amount to them, but it is true that I don't give it as much importance as the seed, which is even more important in reality because that's what all the funds in the wallet depend on.

Next time I create a new wallet I'll do it the way the OP suggests: note down the phrase and recover from it. If there is any problem with the recovery, then forget about the seed and create a new one. Much better to realise it before sending any funds, that's clear.
497  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why do people always play gambling even if they always lose? on: January 05, 2024, 06:14:24 AM

but about your friend ? maybe he is enjoying feeding those gambling site owner or casino owner , he loves giving his money to their pockets?

No, there is no gambler who is losing that enjoys giving his money to the house or the owner by the way of losing. Rather, they are consistently playing to try their luck on winning back what they have. I could imagine losing on a streak and then enjoying the way that your money is being wasted, no gambler will enjoy that. Gamblers wish to be profitable all the time and that is the reason to go back to playing even after vowing not to continue playing. There are some gamblers that are fade up from playing but later decide to play for few times maybe they see a game thinking they can have a win and unfortunately they won't win but end up continuing playing. Such happens because they want to try getting back the losses they had before they stop.

And it seems that there is a tendency to go all-in, for the chance to recover from the previous loss, in the case of many gamblers, which has his psychological explanation but that doesn't make much sense in terms of probability. But the possibility of erasing the mistake made (by gambling money they weren't willing to lose) is very strong, even if it is at the expense of falling in the same mistake.

498  Economy / Gambling / Re: Responsible gambling on: January 05, 2024, 06:06:41 AM
Another point is to also pay attention to your children. Children are usually curious about new things. try to see how they pay attention to you, don't forget your time with your family just for gambling. I always gamble in my spare time even though I really want to continue playing because I think it is very fatal if children see their parents gambling or we don't educate them. Maybe they tried it themselves and got out of control. at that time regret is useless. Gambling is a game, not a main job. making this your main job is the same as destroying your household.

I agree that it is potentially dangerous if children see their parents not only gambling, but also drinking or smoking, because according to research chances of becoming a gambler, drinker or smoker increase compared to cases in which this conditioning factor doesn't exist.

But there are degrees also in what we say, as it is not so potentially dangerous for the children to see their parents playing lottery from time to time, drinking a cup of wine or a beer in social events, etc. These cases are culturally accepted as innocuous or at least as an acceptable risk.

I was introduced to bitcointalk and I don't know much about cryptocurrencies; please advise me on what I should do to learn more about bitcoin. Please send me a link that will walk me through the process so that I don't run into any complications when I start my investment.
Do you want to be taken by the hand and led along the yellow brick path straight to the untold riches of investing in bitcoin? It doesn't happen that way, my friend. Finding the magic link will take 99% of your investment time, while the process itself will only take 1%. Most of the work will consist of finding the necessary information. Fortunately, this is all available on this forum. All you have to do is correctly formulate what you want and begin the learning process, after the necessary searches.

Don't delegate your work to others.

Free advice: Don't neglect search.

Wise words. A bit discouraging, but true in most cases.

The worst part would be that Newbies have the search feature capped by default for security reasons, which makes the learning curve at the beginning even more shallow for them. But we all here were able to make it, so I don't see any impediment for others to do the same now. It doesn't seem to be too late to start, but the perfect timing for those who didn't do it before, but patience is much needed.
