381  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You only got what you deserve on: February 02, 2024, 06:02:02 AM
The "you get what you deserve/you don't get what you don't deserve" is quite a neoliberal thinking that puts the merit and the blame on the individual. In almost everything in life, luck plays an important (many times decisive) role in one's success, and crypto is not any different.

We cam agree that doing your own research, managing risk, having the vision where others don't, etc. is key to succeed, but even more important is the fact that, if the market goes up, you'll almost certainly win, and if the market goes down you'll almost certainly lose.

So don't blame on you if you lost money because it is natural and you were brave enough to try, but don't believe that you are any better than others if you won it instead, because it could've been the other way too and what market decides doesn't depend on you.

was also a bit my intention - all good Smiley

i have the following thread[1] for our aobt community, which you can translate into greek (@BlackHatCoiner), romanian (@GazetaBitcoin), russian (@zasad@), turkish (@mindrust), italian (@Ale88), spanish (@Porfirii) and portuguese (@gagux123) - the thread will be translated into french by one of our crew members
this 'small' thread is about the Icarus project that produces crypto collectible cards and is managed by me as ceo and 3 other forum users.
through the translations (first in the european regions) we want to make ourselves more noticeable/visible. i would also be very happy if you would keep your translated thread up to date with our news/updates Smiley

[1][ANN - INFO] Project Icarus: The forum redemption story 🔐

I will personally translate it this weekend cygan Wink, let's see if the rest of the mentioned members also agree. Or do you want us to add it to the official list and get 10 translations?

Maybe fewer languages grant you greater control on the updates in local boards. Think about it and let us know if you prefer it that way instead.

384  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: stop the unnecessary blame on gambling whenever you get unlucky on: February 01, 2024, 06:08:45 AM
First of all, gambling has nothing to do with investments. Gambling is a game, an expensive hobby, and like with many other hobbies, you have to keep your sanity and enjoy it in moderation. It is not all black, but not all white either.

If you want money to start your own business, you should work hard for it instead of only relying on luck. Maybe this way you learn something valuable in the meantime, and make some extra money to gamble without the pressure of having to win at all cost in order to get the fulfilling life you and your family deserve.
I am aware that gambling is just a mere speculation of event and nothing is certain but then same thing applies to investing, the level of uncertainty in investing is inevitable and cannot be overlooked, just like any investment gambling involves profit and loss, it might not be an investment plan for the bettor but it definitely is for the casinos and online gambling site owners. So you can see how similar they all are. The context of the post is not to make people rely on gambling after all we all know that gambling is mainly for the fun and shouldn’t be used as a major source of income.
Being a source of income for the casino owners makes it an investment for that person. Also it is not new that gambling as really help a lot of people to gather up capital to start a new business for themselves, with right strategy and discipline anybody can achieve success in gambling.  Gambling is a game of chance, and hence the theory of probability and chance calculations apply in full measure. Moreover, those who depend on gambling to either become rich or to make a livelihood are basically who are lazy and don't wish to work . Easy money makes one greedy also. I have seen several people lose everything after they won the first round..out of sheer greed to win more. Life has an element of luck in it, but is not totally based on luck.

Yes, almost no investment is risk-free, but they usually offer, ceteris paribus, a reasonable expectation of gain. We cannot say the same about gambling, where you have to beat odds that are against you by definition.

And saying that it is an investment for the casino owners, well, what can I say? you're right, but it has nothing to do with the topic you started and we are discussing here, which is focused on the gambler's perspective.
385  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: February 01, 2024, 06:00:19 AM
Anyway, I can only agree: whenever you have an important problem you can't solve yourself it is usually advisable to look for help, and with addictions is not any different (in fact, seeking help is specially important to avoid derailing if you see the first symthoms). This way you(or your relative) will save much more money in the long term than the price of the consultation, and prevent further problems linked to impulsiveness.
True. Problem here is that many people especially the ones living in 3rd world countries feel that trying to treat mental issues like gambling addiction could affect their reputation in society negatively which is why they avoid going to psychologists.

They end up making things worse for themselves usually due to those silly reasons.

Now that you mentioned developing countries, another problem that they should face would be that not everybody has enough money to pay a specialist to help him/her, so I suppose that the problem is harder to solve there because of poverty, not to mention social stigma linked to believing that only insane people need therapy.

In such cases, family and friends should prioritize and save the money to pay for the therapy. The good thing is that a consultation is often cheaper there than in other regions of the world, but tools and attention might be worse too.
386  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: La computación cuántica ¿amenaza u oportunidad? on: February 01, 2024, 05:49:24 AM

Thank you gagux, updated Wink

As Gazeta said, only 2 more to go!!

Thank you all, great teamwork: we are finishing the pending tasks at a very good pace.

-snip- so there would be enough work for our aobt guys if our boss (Porfirii) approves this thread for translation Grin Cool

LOL! you made me blush cygan Embarrassed Kiss

No boss, just a humble moderator: rule nr.1 of the AoBT.
We are all equal, the only difference is that we are from different local boards Tongue

Let's wait a few days and approve the next thread all together.
389  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: January 31, 2024, 06:14:19 AM
-snip-
If it was too late, I'm not any specialist, so I'd try to find a good one myself and ask him/her for advice about how to proceed before making things even worse.

I would choose neither because there is a 3rd option which I feel is even better than those two options and that is taking him/her to a psychologist/gambling addiction group who could help in a big way.

Most people don't easily listen to their family members which is why a third person perspective helps in such cases.

LOL, that's what I said in the post immediately preceding yours. Anyway, I can only agree: whenever you have an important problem you can't solve yourself it is usually advisable to look for help, and with addictions is not any different (in fact, seeking help is specially important to avoid derailing if you see the first symthoms). 390  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always Make use of notepad app before posting on: January 31, 2024, 06:02:08 AM
-snip-

Some notepads are also tracking tools which collects information about you, so you should limit your usage.

I agree. We are increasingly relying on more and more tools to do what we've always done without them, and this is a problem. If you want to use Notepad yourself it's up to you, but I wouldn't advice something like that to the rest of the members of the forum, especially when you get no substantial advantage by using it, and you may be contributing to deanonymize yourself. I think that I'm not wrong if I say that Satoshi wouldn't use it.
391  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: La computación cuántica ¿amenaza u oportunidad? on: January 31, 2024, 05:50:19 AM

Good day dear Porfirii ! Thank you for your reply. Yes, of course, the social part for the benefit of the community should be, and I have a positive attitude to it ! I have corrected my data.

DrBeer, I'm glad to tell you that you've been accepted as our back-up Russian translator! Smiley

nalain420 and r_victory, the above doesn't mean that you weren't accepted. Please, wait for the announcement too Wink

Edit: r_victory, you're accepted too as our Portuguese back-up translator Smiley please, if you don't mind, let us know if you are Portuguese or Brazilian.

* Here is a link to the Indonesian translation: Mengapa harus menggunakan alamat SegWit (Segregated Witness)

Great job, Husna QA! Now this translation is finished at last!
Porf, are you so kind, please, to update it in OP and move the topic to finished section?

Updated and moved to our list of finished translations. This is not the best week to make more decisions, but I think that next week we should pick the new topic to translate in our local boards.

394  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: As a crypto investor, the less app you install the better. on: January 30, 2024, 07:26:55 PM
It is always a good advice to go for the browser version of any service instead of installing the App in your smartphone: the data they are able to collect from you are much less via browser, and it is easier to control which you share. Of course, you have to trust your browser, but I think that they are safer from the design.

And, even better, do the exercise of evaluating which services are worth using and stop using all those you think that are dispensable. Not only from the point of view of security, but for a better use of your time too.
395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: January 30, 2024, 07:18:46 PM
First of all, if it had been possible I'd have ended the addiction before it started, giving good advice and raising his/her curiosity about how gambling really works and why it is not a good idea to lose control in the quest for that great jackpot thad doesn't depend on how much money you stake or how hard you try.

If it was too late, I'm not any specialist, so I'd try to find a good one myself and ask him/her for advice about how to proceed before making things even worse.

-snip-

Furthermore ,I Dont know How much you like the forum , But To me this is the best forum I have ever joined in  life with a higher prospect , here I see people  contribute awesomely And knowledgeably To a particular discussion , people relate like brothers And Sisters , High ranked members always correct the newbies And many more .

-snip-

I have to agree with you, JMBitcointernational. Even when business are made here, most users remain loyal to their principles and don't lie to make money: that's not what we can see lately in other social platforms, where you can't be sure where truth ends and tricky lies begin.

This beautiful forum has given us so much, many veteran members feel happy to return what they received in the form of shared knowledge.
Furthermore, many of us have a kind of moral obligation to do our best to honor this agora Satoshi himself founded more than a decade ago.
398  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: January 29, 2024, 06:45:40 PM
Dear AoBT-ers,

I've just sent you a PM in relation to what we talked about last week. Taking into account the magnitude of the decisions to be made, please, answer/vote sensibly before the week is over or forever hold your peace.

If any of the members involved didn't read the last message and want to add something, now is the time to do so: please, respond in private so the rest of us can reconsider our thoughts before the deadline.

I'll make an important announcement here next Monday, as soon as we have the final results.
399  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Adults of bitcointalk what are your candid advice to newbies in the forum? on: January 29, 2024, 06:06:21 AM
Apart from the interesting topics other members shared by Dr.Bitcoin_Strange in this thread, you can also read 1miau's and GazetaBitcoin's thread about how to improve your posting quality. The topic is meant to boost excellence in local boards, but most of the advice given there can be also applied to the forum in general.
400  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2 years old kids alone at home for hours, while the father goes gambling on: January 29, 2024, 05:59:03 AM
He put his two-year-old twins in great danger by leaving them home alone for a long time while he gambled, which is a very bad and careless thing for the father to do. -snip- As a reminder, people should be good parents and get help if they are having problems with compulsive habits that could put the safety of their family at risk.

I don't think this is only a matter of being a good father or gambling addiction, but about some sort of mental illness. Children were with an aggressive dog, which is not the best indicator about the father's mental sanity, not to mention child abuse! Some people are psychopaths, and whatever decisions they make are not good. The news puts the focus on the fact that he went gambling, but without more info we can only make conclusions that can be true, or not.
