142  Economy / Gambling / Re: My experience on live bet on: March 30, 2024, 11:59:54 AM
An achievement it is if it's your first time betting and winning on a live game. I don't bet into such but make sure that this don't overjoy because what may happen later on is you'd be wagering more or what you cannot afford to lose.

The excitement and joy is there and that's why I am giving you a reminder to please be reminded about that and always get yourself in control. Because with first time wins, this is where our confidence is being built.

And you'd never know how far it will bring you if you don't watch yourself out.

That's why some people say that having bad luck the first time you play is actually having quite good luck. So you won the bet, and chances are that you're reliving it in your memory and waiting for a new opportunity to repeat the feat, but next time you probably won't be so lucky, so plan ahead and set some personal limits before you put too much at stake. At least it's not instant games, so you have more options to cultivate patience.

Whatever the case, I wish you good luck Smiley
143  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are you still holding on: March 30, 2024, 11:49:07 AM
Bitcoin Core (full node wallet)
Passport (hardware wallet)
Trezor (hardware wallet)
Samourai (mobile wallet)

But for holding, it is better use cold wallet for high amount of coins. Cold wallets like Electrum wallet on airgapped device. Or go for hardware wallet like Passport.
This is also good to note that HW is like an investment as it holds price too, Passport will be the most expensive one to buy, while electrum is the easy-to-go wallet that can be used for just like any other HW in an airgapped environment if an old pc is available.
I'm using electrum in an non-airgapped device yet never experience any hacking of malicious attacks, it's just a matter of good practices while using the device.

Oh! I didn't know this new model, but it looks quite good!! A bit expensive, as you said, but 199 USD is not that much if you compare it with what others devices costed, like the Ledger Blue (over 300 USD a few years ago which, btw, was discontinued last year Roll Eyes).

It depends on the funds you have to hodl. For a beginner, electrum is the cheapest and easiest way to secure his satoshis, but as your holdings grow it makes sense to invest in greater security, although there are good enough cheaper alternatives other than Passport.
144  Economy / Economics / Re: How does one know and join the right community after a job loss? on: March 30, 2024, 11:38:27 AM
I realize that sometimes people don't have a choice, and they are in circumstances that force them to take jobs that they don't enjoy because they need money. In my life, I've been trying to do things that contribute to my personal growth and development of skills that I find important, and things that I enjoy or at least don't mind doing. I've chosen to earn less but do something I enjoy more many times in my life, and I think this is the way of getting to a life that you like and moving toward your dream. As for the right community, it probably depends on an area in which one wants to develop. But I'd suggest attending public events related to that area, such as conferences, exhibitions, public talks, etc.

This is an interesting philosophy of life that I agree with. In many countries we are culturally influenced to want more and it seems that nothing is enough, so you have to get the best paid job, even if you don't like it or it doesn't let you free time for your things.

Losing a job can be a problem or a blessing. If you have enough money to support yourself for several months, it can be a great opportunity to reinvent yourself and look for something you like more than what you were doing for a living until then.
145  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What nature of the the rewarding games would you prefer playing with friends on: March 30, 2024, 11:26:33 AM
As long as the punishment is not too harsh, I think that playing with friends can be very entertaining because it creates a shared feeling which is not very common when you play, usually alone.

Just make sure that the terms are clear, everyone accepts them on beforehand, and not engage with those of your friends who like to make excuses the most, because it can be very frustrating to face the risk of the game and see, after winning it, that the other party is not willing to keep his/her end of the deal.

148  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dont chase your loss on: March 29, 2024, 12:20:01 PM
Knowing when to stop is an important skill to practice and develop
Its a must
If you let the dopamine rush dominate you you’re lost and will end up alone in the corner.

Don’t let it dominate you.
Remember this.

Always be alert and watch your actions
An ideal neuron always releases dopamine and alerts an ideal gambler to stop gambling at this moment. But a mentally disordered gambler can never stop himself from gambling even when he faces a loss.
But when an ideal gambler faces a loss in gambling, he does not chase the loss to recover the loss but temporarily refrains from gambling and mentally settles himself and takes further action.

I don't think that "mentally disordered" is the best expression for a gambler who doesn't manage to stop himself from gambling after facing a loss. As imperfect humans, we don't always take the best or at least the most rational decisions, but this doesn't mean that we are impaired in any way either. People can fail and learn from their failures. People can learn when to stop and make better decisions in the future. Of course, planning ahead is very helpful too.

The encoding process is difficult, but decoding seems much easier.
-snip-

Between the cons Pmalek warned us about, one of them is the time for decoding more than for encoding. When you say that the encoding process is more difficult, is it because technical difficulty in comparison to decoding? In brief: what is the difference between encoding and decoding in terms of difficulty and time needed?
150  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: March 29, 2024, 11:40:57 AM
Question to all translators here.
What is the payment rate for translating an article of 500-1000 words? It doesn't have to be precise, but something roughly from-to.

I need to make an offer for multilingualism for a small site, it would be useful information. Most likely, there will be a need for Russian, Chinese and German for now.
tx

Hey examplens, congratulations for your potential deal. It is not easy to find new customers these days.

I think that 0.06 USD per word is a good price for a professional translation, which would be 30-60 USD for an article of 500-1000 words. No need to say that, if you need help with different languages, we will be happy to help you.
151  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: Sam Bankman (FTX) condenado a 25 años de cárcel on: March 29, 2024, 11:35:16 AM

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Hatchy. I think that you have taken a very good and meditated decision.

Let's see what Chilwell has to say now. I think that we all will be happy if he still wants to join our Alliance.

Re-applying for the backup translator on the AOBT gang thread as pidgin back up translator under @Hatchy who is the head in the gang.

Here is my application, i will be happy if my application is accepted thanks.

EARNED merits in the last 120 days: 100

In this case, I don't think we have to vote. The rule is that each Main translator has the last word about accepting  assistance in his language, and Hatchy already invited you.

And 100 merits in the last 120 years is great, btw Smiley

Welcome to the gang Chilwell!!

i would like to personally thank our turkish aobt member mindtrust for his generous merit distribution today Smiley
he has rewarded many of my translated topics/topics with 3 merits each Shocked
sometimes this kind of reward is worth more than a thousand words or even participation in a signature campaign...

I join in your gratitude, cygan! It took me by surprise. Very thankful. I will redistribute them wisely.
153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How about your experience in taking part in the same bet with friends? on: March 28, 2024, 04:28:44 PM
-snip-
Is there less human pressure if gambling is conducted in the same place with friends?

I think so, yes. Although the result in one's funds is basically the same, there is a social stigma too attached to being a loser, which seems to be smaller if you share the loss with others. At least, you are not worse than them.

Although it can be positive to gamble with friends, choosing the right ones is key.

Hi everyone !
Where can I get Recovering hacked/lost accounts with markup ? The original article https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0 does not allow to copy the markup text ?

Hi DrBeer,

No, you're right, it doesn't. Since the thread is locked, you can use any of cygan's translations (for example this one) and simply edit the text with your translation, but maintaining the BBCode.

Anyway, this one is a very short OP and a very simple code, so in this case you could even add the characters in bold by yourself without too much problem.

157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: International break's in football. on: March 27, 2024, 06:12:45 AM
-snip-

As football club fans we all know how boring those weekend's on international breaks for clubs usually feels like. For a fan like me it's like the whole world just stands still and everything seems irregular all through the weekends staying without club matches.

so will you as a football club fan wish/like it if international breaks is scrapped in football yearly calendar, so we can continue watching our favorite football club leagues and teams all the weekends and midweeks. Are you a fan of international breaks or not let's know your thoughts.

-snip-

I think that these breaks are quite healthy because this way people can concentrate on other things and maybe reach the conclusion that they are wasting too much time watching sports, for example. Otherwise, if all weeks are always the same, sense of continuity can make them simply go with the flow without thinking about anything.

-snip-
Another interesting question is this, as a father would you force it on your child to also fan the same club you're a fan to, or you will allow him be himself to fan any club of his choice even if it's your most rival club of all times.

Interesting question, indeed. I think that I would let my children choose their own favorite team, but I think this has more in common with the breeding style of each other rather than with how staunch you are about your team.

At same time, the pie baking contest got one more sponsor, which was added by RickDeckard to the table from his OP. Therefore, I am kindly asking all translators of that topic to update their translations, by updating the table with prizes. So this should be in the attention of DYING_S0UL, paid2, cygan, Hatchy, Peanutswar, gagux123 and Porf. There are also 2 more translators which translated this topic, but they are not part of AOBT hence it would be useless to mention them.

Thank you Gazeta, I'll update it as soon as I get home.

Hi Porfirii

This week I am gonna translate this thread Recovering hacked/lost accounts by theymos

I already talk with Gazeta through PM  Grin

See ya

Good to know it dansus Smiley let us know when you finish it.

then i have a request for the other translators of this topic.
please have your translations pinned in the respective local boards by your moderators so that they are always visible and not forgotten Wink

I'm afraid that it won't be so easy in some local boards, but it's an interesting request, we will try.

Out of the three topics I proposed to translate a few days ago, as Gazeta suggested, let's add Recovering hacked/lost accounts by theymos to the list of ongoing translations. After being doing such difficult ones, this will be very easy Wink

If there is still space for the translation of this topic to naija board ie pidgin language, i will be interesting to do so.

Hatchy has preference as the main Pidgin translator of the Alliance. If you come to an understanding, there is no problem; otherwise it is reserved for him.
