681  Economy / Economics / Re: ~85% of money doesn't exist on: November 20, 2023, 01:46:40 PM

Many of bitcoin's detractors will often say that it's held by too few people. Well, look at "actual money" then. 85% of it is completely unaccounted for.
Keep this in mind next time someone says anything about bitcoin.

Everything is accounted for; that's the role of the central bank. Any money that will be created or destroyed is just like a plus or minus on their books. Maybe the right description is that 85% is not in circulation for use by the majority of the people, as mentioned; it's used by big corporations and banks for their business purposes.

Many of the members who wrote here are surprised because most of the money is not printed, but they take it for granted that there is a real risk of extinction of bills and coins if the CBDCs succeed, and I'm almost sure that most of them pay with credit card even the most casual purchase.

If more physical money doesn't exist is because with a 15% seems to be enough (it shouldn't, but...).
682  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Massive influx of scammers activity during the bull season. on: November 20, 2023, 01:38:04 PM
There is too much noise affecting people's minds, creating a rush to invest anywhere sooner. People present on the forum are unlikely to make mistakes with investments since the truth is repeated many times: there is nothing free on the Internet. But fans of social networks are future victims, greedily hunting for “gifts” either from the public or now from the impending halving, which will certainly be presented in the news as the coming of the time when you need to prepare for riches. And scammers, who are still very inventive, will show everyone the high art of deception.

I agree with you that the members of this forum are a bit better prepared against scam attempts, but anyone can fall into these traps, and thinking that it would be hard for anyone to fall is the first step towards this end.

Especially in times like this one. Bull runs are the moment where scammers can get the best results from their dubious practices, not only because of these special feelings (FOMO, rush to invest, hype) but because it is the time when most people decide to take action, and once the decision is made, it is easier for scammers to manipulate them on how that action should be materialized.
683  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1XBIT.COM ᐉ 7 BTC WB ᐉ Altcoin Betting ᐉ no KYC ᕗ Instant payouts on: November 20, 2023, 01:30:53 PM
Whatever method 1xbit uses by using a new brand and a new business, people will still know they are the same business, which is why 1xbit might be a little frustrated, especially if they appear again like in the past where they tried another campaign on this forum. However, they will still be marked as scam sites and people will stay away from them.
The brand of being a scam website will never go away, it's never going anywhere so in my opinion, they're going to be having a hard time atoning and trying to prove themselves to the community, I believe in redemption so I hope that that's the path that 1xbit will take on, hopefully many of us will be proven wrong that they're just good for it on the early stages and won't commit until forgiven. Man, it's hard to run a gambling website that was supposed to be dead with all the scam allegations and accusations that turned out to be true.

I also believe in the redemption, although once you lose the trust of the people it is hard to reestablish it. But I'm not necessarily for the opinion about the brand. A few days ago I learnt how they were creating physical casinos in certain countries, with a slightly different name (1xbet) and, if they get popular this way, chances are that their past reputation in this forum is forgotten some day.
684  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: November 20, 2023, 06:03:56 AM
Btw, I'd like to ask you a favor: when I update it, can you kindly translate and publish the Pidgin version of the OP? That way you have some entertainment until next proposal Cheesy.

Well here's the translation of the op As requested in pidgin. I got occupied during the week but I had already made the translation days ago just needed time to proof read it before posting on my Localboard. I also was able to finish this translation I had promised to complete earlier here are the links

Service announcement: [AOBT] ALLIANCE OF BITCOINTALK TRANSLATORS

[Script] Imgur to TalkImg - automatically fix your broken images

Great! Thank you Hatchy, I'll update all the links right now.

Lastly, my current signature campaign had ended, and I won't be joining another one anytime soon, so I decided to wear the AOBT signature, but found out that there wasn't one made for my current rank FULL MEMBER. I wanted to ask if it were possible to get @jayce the original designer of the AOBT signatures to create one for the full member rank.

Also, I noticed we didn't have an avatar for the AOBT and since Im also good at graphics designs and arts, I decided to put my skills to work.  Smiley I made an avatar for the gang, I actually designed 2 and want the gang to see if its okay or pick from both avatar, which will be better as THE AOBT AVATAR. I would love to hear from you guys so I can put the avatar on.
Here's the avatar

-snip-

Hey! that was really unexpected Cheesy

Thank you for your effort and motivation. I think that other members like the idea too (I personally do). It reminds me of Ace Attorney, but instead of "Objection!" it would be more like "Translation!"

Porf: please be aware that there are some translations made by you which have still the old model for the above sentence (link 1, link 2, link 3, link 4; at link 4 maybe you can take a look also at the image links as they are broken...).

Thank you Gazeta, these days are being chaotic with many exams, but I'll edit them asap.

686  Economy / Economics / Re: Btc vs dollars on: November 19, 2023, 11:42:28 AM
I have some ideas
Yeah, care to enlighten us?..

Taking into account that he/she hasn't answered since he/she created the OP, I think that we will be left with the doubt.

It's why 1 BTC = 1 BTC, not 1 BTC = $34,000 or anything else.

If you view BTC in USD equivalent, you will not able to get rid from USD, while fiat will become worthless and banks will bankrupt. While Bitcoin is resistance against that since Bitcoin has own it's feature and you're don't rely with third party platform.

Not necessarily. 1 BTC is 1 BTC; $34,000; €33,000; one Toyota C-HR... all of these at the same time. We value things in comparison to others since we started trading eggs for apples thousands of years ago. It's common in our circle the saying 1BTC is 1BTC, and while it is true, we shouldn't believe at face value all the other implications we tend to associate with it, like the one that states that it cannot be valued compared to other currencies.

688  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: November 19, 2023, 11:26:18 AM
Since the topic was added to our list, I have to mention that I already translated it, a long time ago Smiley De ce oamenii ar trebui să utilizeze adrese SegWit
Porf, can you add the Romanian translation to the list, please?

As a plus, the topic was translated also in German language by 1miau (Vorteile der Verwendung von SegWit Adressen) and in Pidgin language by knowngunman (Na why people go dey use SegWit addresses).

Thank you! I have just added the all translations mentioned.

Please don't forget to add also this line at the end of each translation (translated in French, of course): "Translation made at AOBT inițiative.".

This recommendation is for all AOBT translators and it has been also mentioned in the past for a few times Smiley

In fact, I like to add at the end of my translations the following code:

Code:
Translation made at AOBT initiative (<--- this sentence should be translated into your own language):

[center][url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5442314.0][img width=500]https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AOBTranslators/Images/main/AOBT%20Logo.png[/img][/url][/center]

which looks like this, with a link to our ANN included:

Quote
Traducción ofrecida a iniciativa de:

So, following Gazeta's reminder, please, take it into account when you finish your new translations and update, when possible, the old ones too.

Last but not least: Hatchy, OP was updated. Welcome to our Hall of Fame!! Smiley

Keep up!
689  Economy / Economics / Re: Imaginary Future on: November 18, 2023, 09:01:08 PM
Do you ever feel like that being after saving or investing for future you forget to live in the present? You don't buy the things you want to or don't go after experiences you want because you'd rather save/invest for future instead.

Absolutely. Future is uncertain, so it is better to start saving as soon as possible, just in case. I see how friends of mine spend all the money they earn every month because they "don't work all day to want something and not buy it", but I'm happy valuing immaterial things, and trying to achieve financial freedom someday.

In the end you end up liking the stoic taste taken in the act of holding back yourself and saving or investing instead of spending. Dreaming with future promises is something very pleasurable too.
690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Casinos with Online and Offline version, Are they the same? on: November 18, 2023, 08:49:51 PM
If the offline version is that much reputable then the owner behind it must be doing the maintenance on his own while he must have appointed a different group who are capable to operate into online section. Also, there's the fact about age range. Most people who are gambling online are those who knows how to deal with internet. They are much younger. There could be people who are older, but the amount is low when it comes to gambling online.

-snip-

It depends on the country where you live. I think that in most developed countries, thanks to advertisements in different platforms (TV, social media) I think that almost anyone can gamble online, except vary rare cases of very old people. Today we have Apps almost for everything, and those casinos that are only reachable via web aren't much harder to find either.
691  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: November 18, 2023, 08:38:46 PM
Hey Porf!

I'd like to change my testimony from OP. Are you so kind, please, to change the following part?
✂️

wow Gazeta!
that is a very impressive achievement and i was not aware that you had translated the bitcoin whitepaper on bitcoin.org until now Shocked👍

btw @Porfirii why can't i find a testimony to my user? Grin

We wrote them when we created the Alliance and since then we haven't updated it. Tell me the one you want and I'll add it below Wink

Gazeta, I'm also updating yours right now. And, of course, if any other AoBTer wants to add or change any testimony, let me know.

Original topic: Why people should be using SegWit addresses
Author: 1miau

I know I'm a bit early, but as I'll be a bit unavailable next week, so at least it'll already be done.  Smiley

So fast! OK, I'll create the new link and add add a link to your translation. Thank you Wink
692  Economy / Economics / Re: Being rich = not looking at price tag on: November 17, 2023, 02:50:15 PM
I often read people saying they want to earn enough money so they don't have to look at price tag of product. Imo, even if you are rich you wouldn't want to spend money on things that are not worthy of price being paid.

That mindset by the people you read shows a wrong approach, the one a person focused on consuming would show. If I was rich, I wouldn't want to spend more than what is good, independently on being worth the price asked or not. Just look at how calm and happy are minimalists. I don't mean to get to such an extreme, but to a balance between that and the other one, more obvious, followed by the majority.

Most people think: if I was rich I would buy... but only a few think: of I was rich, how happily would I live being financially free, and how many people would I be able to make happy too...

693  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: November 17, 2023, 02:39:26 PM
AoBTers, I would like to suggest a new topic to translate: 1miau's Trade vs. HODL - avoid traps.
Hi Porf,
The portuguese translation of this thread: Trade vs HODL - evite armadilhas

Thank you gagux123!

Just one more translation and we'll be able to move it to finished translations. Russian, Indonesian, Filipino, Italian and Arabic are still available (I'm sure that I'm forgetting some others); who will be the first one? zasad@?? Kavelj22??? Yatsan?Huh

As soon as we make it, I'll add the one proposed by iwantmyhomepaidwithbtc2 as translation in progress for those waiting for new interesting material to translate.

Hatchy, this weekend at the latest, I promise Wink

Yatsan, Peanutswar, Ale88, and a couple more: you didn't take part in the vote. Please, let me know your answer so I can add it to the record, or share it with the rest of the members directly answering the group message.
694  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to verified My Binance Account? on: November 17, 2023, 06:21:54 AM
What step are you having problems with specifically? Binance account verification is very straightforward and they have instructions for every step anyway that even my non-savvy parents can follow the instructions easily.

That is true, so I don't know what advice he wants from "experienced and senior brothers in this forum" Huh

Is he/she looking for a method to bypass KYC fast, maybe through identity fraud? I don't think that this is the philosophy of most members of the forum (or maybe I'm not so senior, but I don't think that is the problem).

So who knows, maybe he/she was simply asking how to verify identity, that can be done without coming to a specialized forum, or maybe someone understands what he really means and contact him/her in private.

OP, if your intentions are good, beware of possible scam attempts in your inbox. If they're not, consider getting back on the right track before it's too late.
695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lotteries and possibility vs. probability on: November 17, 2023, 06:07:13 AM
-snip-
Concerning the discussion of "the more tickets one buys, the better the chances of that person winning" we can draw an example from Freebitco's lottery system, where we see that people with such a few hundred tickets end up winning the jackpot, while those with millions of tickets end up winning just a tiny amount of bitcoin, and sometimes, nothing at all.
You gave a very appropriate example and I'm sure most people here can understand what you are saying about the fact that the number of tickets we have will not provide any guarantee, even an almost small chance of getting a big jackpot.
I might also buy a lottery ticket but I hardly think about buying more tickets to get a bigger chance because I think if I play the same slot based on luck, I rarely get a win, especially in the lottery it will definitely be very difficult so I choose to buy a ticket with small value just to try your luck.

In fact, those who buy many tickets is because they are seeing it more like an investment than a bet. But according to maths, it is a terrible investment.

Looking at a bigger picture, in the long run those who buy millions of tickets should win more often. The problem is that the chances are still so small in terms of probability that it can only be seen in the very long run, with billions (trillions? more?) of bets. So, for an individual player, it is practically the same to buy 1 ticket than many, because the chances if they buy 10 tickets for example go from being hit 200 times by a lightning to 20, which won't happen either, but they spent ten times more. And if they buy 100 tickets, they won't be hit two times by a lightning either before winning. You follow me, right?

So tusandii and Fivestar4everMVP explained it very well, and more lottery tickets is never, IMO, a better option than just one.

697  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning]: Impersonation and spoofing of crypto related companies on Twitter on: November 16, 2023, 02:55:29 PM
This clearly shows that the scammers are always one step ahead. They impersonated someone whom everyone in Crypto trusts, so when he says to do something, they do.
Sad for those who lost nearly $50,000. Kudos to the scammer for being so innovative, creating an account with a similar name, and still not being flagged by Zachxbt himself.
The domain sounds original to be very honest like that's what it's meant to do.

The scammer could better use his/her creative skills in something more productive (not only for him I mean, because the loot was large...). I hope that those who were scammed could afford to lose that money. I wonder if the social media platform itself can be made responsible of the loss for not establishing more strict security measures.
698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lotteries and possibility vs. probability on: November 16, 2023, 06:20:53 AM

Dears, don't hesitate and use the scissors whenever you need it. It is a practice in line with the recommendations of the forum, which makes it much easier for others to follow the conversations that you are holding, and I don't think that anyone will feel offended if you cut the dispensable parts Wink
