1201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GameCoin (GME) - MANDATORY UPDATE to v0.8.3.1 before block 64,000 on: September 05, 2013, 10:41:13 PM
Alright, enough already people!

Live and learn...then shut the fuck up and mine the coin you want to support.  I don't know about the rest of you, but this isn't a hobby for me...I actually need this shit right now to get back on the exchange.

This is very easy to understand.

1. The coin is currently being attacked.
2. We can make the changes to the code that the attacker has suggested, or continue on and let the attack persist.
Or
3. Ignore every word from the attacker and continue to think that we are progressing on the correct chain.

Words from the attacker:

Code:
BitcoinEXPres574: @Stouse49: Because I have one locked down in a time warp at 63381 and the other is advancing. When you guys mine about a 1000 blocks, I will drop about 400 mhs on the time warped chain and pass you, becoming the longer chain and invalidating everything behind me for a 1000 blocks. Pretty cool huh?

BitcoinEXPres574: Ok you guys wanna know how to fix GME?
BitcoinEXPres574: @mullick: All time warps require a coin with less than 2 minute block times, anything longer it's almost impossible.

BitcoinEXPres574: 2.5 minutes is on the extreme edge, I would move target time to 3 minutes.

BitcoinEXPres574: Solution for GME to live: rollback to 63380, 3 minute target times and set retarget for every 25 blocks. Just a suggestion. Nothing more.

BitcoinEXPres574: any "fast coin" less than 2.5 min block time is exploitable in multiple ways.

BitcoinEXPres574: @ mullick: Tell harbinger if he will fix his coin and cease with his BS, I'll consider not killing it. he's got four days.

The attacker is obviously not doing much as the block count wasn't increasing since the checkpoint update a couple of days ago until a couple of us started mining, so firstly I don't see a chain with an extra 1,000blocks, and secondly I don't see a chain that is locked down at 63,381
1202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 05, 2013, 09:48:53 PM
The pre-order model flat out sucks for investors. At best it's a zero interest loan with the purchased gear as collateral. The gear that hasn't been built yet mind you. Yes knc is offering refunds and I wouldn't even have given them a second look otherwise, but we need to move beyond this ridiculous sales model. Just because you can get a refund doesn't mean you don't have losses. Those that are ordering are plainly interested in BTC and as such have numerous investment opportunities. When knc announced their plans to develop this hardware those that invested made their choice. Whether it was the right choice or not remains to be seen, but if they paid with BTC at that time then they're already way behind because they locked in an exchange rate that was most likely lower than it is now. If they paid with fiat then they likely could've purchased BTC directly and been better off. Again, nothing against knc as they've acted in good faith thus far, I'm just disappointed that they've not helped to move us beyond this pre-order model and it's lopsided share of the risks heaped upon investors.

The pre-order model is the kick start from hell, I hate it, too many ASIC chip makers already from this, killing the ROI for all. Most of the ASIC makers will eventually die as moore's law fails to keep up with the difficulty increases. Unless something changes, I see the future of ASIC miners as small backyard low overhead operations, the data center model will come and go quickly. Big farms wont be competitive as the cost of electricity, aircon, staff wages, space rental, kills the ROI, whilst the small backyarder with no-aircon still makes a profit and keeps the net alive.

Thanks for the info...

I've already got 100 of these boards being fabbed, but I'll take all this into consideration for the next iteration Smiley
Are you going to sell the things?

erk it wont payout yet, im still auditing the blocks which has become a lengthy process even if its only for the next 4k blocks left
No worries, not fussed, I just keep getting these warning messages when I refresh the page that tell me:

You have exceeded the pools configured GME warning threshold. Please initiate a transfer!

It's not assigning the name of the miner to the blocks either, I think the pool mined the same block numbers on the wrong fork a few days ago and can't handle repeat block numbers.

Might be a good idea to create a new wallet address for the pool, as the old one has had too many transactions so the block chain explorer page wont display it! Makes it hard to audit the wallet.

Only 13 blocks to go..(the hardfork was brought forward to 62,400 correct?)

Is StevenLam in the house?  Grin
I thought the hard fork was moved to block 64,000 so it's over 600 blocks away.! I will keep mining, but it would be nice to see the GME community make an effort.

According to the blockchain we are on block 63382  Cool

You can thank a couple of us from the Crypsty chat box that decided to start mining GME about 7 hours ago! Nobody was mining it that was why it was stuck on block 63381

That's so wrong its laughable.

~BCX~

Check the payout address on the block explorer for the last half a dozen block mined, it's all the same it's http://gme.crypto-expert.com/ and I am the top hash rate contributor with just 500kH/s. I only registered there about 8hr ago. Now if I could just figure out how to get the pool to payout into my brand new GME wallet!

From what I gather, 63381 is the correct current block.  It's not moving cuz no one's mining it I think.  You want it to move and succeed, then mine it consistently.
I punched the difficulty into a calculator, and a single GPU should have found a block in a couple of hours, it's been days! I am certainly mining it.

It's only 3.078 difficulty, unless that figure is a lie.

1208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GameCoin (GME) - MANDATORY UPDATE to v0.8.3.1 before block 64,000 on: September 05, 2013, 12:18:07 PM
to overcome the actual problems,

wouldn't it be usefull if all miners would mine on one pool togehter

making the blockchain created from this pool as strong that it becomes the main blockchain

All you need is an addnode with the correct IP address in the gamecoin.conf file but so far nobody had provided one. All my clients are on the stuck chain and they are fresh installs on machines that have never run a gamecoin client before.

sure, but, as you said, nobody did provide one until now

and even if some provide their IPs:

1. you can not be sure to be on the strongest tread of the blockchain
2. IPs will change on a regular basis for the average miner sitting behing a dynamic IP-adress
3. its simply the easiest way to use one big pool, isn't it ?

Of course you can, it's the one not stuck on 63381. I am not interested in the IP of someone behind a dynamic firewall. I am interested in a real IP of a client that is not stuck on 63381. You can't have "a big pool" without a working client IP on the right chain first.

1 minute block times is a huge mistake.

With re-targeting every other block it highly increases the likelihood of forks especially if a lot of hash rate is dropped at once.

You're effectively optimizing it for attacks.

~BCX~

probably true
Shorter block times mean faster confirms and less chance of an attack, however they increase the chance of stale block. 1min is still a pretty safe figure there are coins with 12sec block times, shouldn't be too many stales.

Interesting choice given that Thailand is the one country in the world that has completely banned everything related to Bitcoin!

The news story was incorrect.

Yeah, I know, it was only a bunch of pissed off bankers trying to sound official.

BARNTECH

I believe you are having the bare PCBs made in China, and the assembly will be done in Sydney ?

That might prevent some of the problems punin has seen with his August batch

http://m.imgur.com/a/t3AKx

Yes PCBs will be made in china and Assembly will happen in Sydney or the U.S. This is mainly so we can be present for the manufacture, also to avoid potential dodgey assembly like in those pics you sent. Also, none of us speak Mandarin.
http://www.futurlec.com.au get their boards done in Thailand. Also I think BkkCoins mentioned he has contacts for quick turn around boards in Thailand. You might want to PM him.

I don't think you would be wanting to pay for the boards there in BTC Smiley

Ripple can have China, the rest of the world can have real coins.

Is there a fork?

Don't know, there is something wrong, the block count is not rising.

Even with my modest mining power, at only 3.078 difficulty I should have found a GME block in a few hours, and I don't believe for a moment I am the only one mining.

1216  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: September 05, 2013, 05:44:17 AM
I see long term problems with large ASIC farms, they have overheads that backyard rigs don't, such as staff, air-conditioning, space rental etc. I think they are doomed to failure from a shareholders perspective. I don't see a bright future for the likes of ASICminer unless they make hardware sales their main focus, even then, the ASIC chip industry is due for a shake out in the next 12mths. there are too many players.

1217  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [ASICMINER] [Block Erupter USB] [Price Update] [Australia] on: September 05, 2013, 05:10:41 AM
Yeah, @4BTC the blade pricing is totally out of the question, which is a pity, there is nothing wrong with the product, it just can't make ROI.

I just downloaded the source and compiled it on a linux box in the past half hour, and also installed a binary on a Mac. Both are stuck at block 63,381 this seems to indicate the default node are on the wrong fork.

Can we have the IP's of some nodes which are on the correct fork please?

From what i got from harbinger the chain stuck at 63381 is the correct chain. Could have changed since this morning though

The difficulty is only 3.07812949 surely that's not going to take days to get off block 63,381 if it is the right chain?

The last checkpoint was:
( 63380, uint256("0xb442f0d8bf9cfa9fd1bc102af28c2f6e3aae2099f1417e0358f875f70788f271"))

I would love to see an FTC/LTC coin pair, I reckon that would be really interesting, so far the other exchanges have been doing either FTC/BTC or FTC/USD.
