Well, this show has stalled with the multi-week delay on the shipment of Avalon chips, starting to be quite a controversy in other threads. If it all goes belly up, does one of the Bitfury based board designs look like a suitable replacement project to get build locally? Thinking about the S-Hash design in particular.

1462  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: August 12, 2013, 02:57:39 AM

This is what happens when you try to sell something you do not have..

Am so over all this pre-order sh*T
That's about the best summary I have read so far.

No, none of this is possible. If they were waiting on delivery that would have only given them two weeks, well there is stuff they ordered weeks ago that won't come in until next week or the week after. They must have known there was a delay or they simply weren't able to meet the delivery date. If they knew there was going to be a delay, they should have stated: "it has come to our attention that there will be a delay in the chip shipments by approximately 2-3 weeks, etc."

What if it becomes more than 2-3weeks? Isn't it simply better not to give estimates until they have something concrete from Avalon?

Done.

Looking forward to seeing this USB solution in the general public's hands Smiley

Keep up the great work.
Any idea who is going to make and sell the devices?

I can give the CAD file (edit: of the heatsink), so you can do it yourself.
Not really very much to it:)

I don't have the resources to make these things. I was just wondering if anyone had mentioned to you that they would be producing the USB version for sale.

Development progress

While we wait for the chips to finish production, we have some news on the development progress, and it’s good news. We have been continuously testing our design to get the best out of the chips. We would like to say, that while the spec of Jupiter will remain a guaranteed minimum 400 GH/s we can confirm that we are expecting to be over that mark by a considerable margin.
Sounds promising.

November pricing

With difficulty increasing the way it is, we would like to give an indication of a November price drop. Currently all orders placed and paid for will ship in October, and yes, we still have space within October for more orders. However, as soon as this is no longer the case we will adjust our prices for November accordingly.

To give you an indication on the forthcoming price drop a Jupiter device will cost less than 5000 USD. More information will follow on this when October shipping becomes full.

Slightly confusing, what it sounds like is when all the first chip batch is sold out there will be a price reduction, which make sense as many of the upfront costs are non-recurring for the second batch.

1466  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 11, 2013, 09:14:30 PM
guys, back to the issue here: CUSTOMS

Will the chips be confiscated by customs?  How long will it take customs to process the chips and ship them out?  Which customs are they at? China or United States?  What routes must the chips take, lets say the chips leave customs monday, how long best case for us to get the chips and whats a realistic worst case scenario?  Who all thinks that our group buys will get the chips before sept 1st?

Shouldn't you be first asking: Do you believe the chips are stuck in customs? If so, then why are they stuck?

DGC, NVC pools are down for 30 minutes for maintenance.
I don't think DGC is transferring Unconfirmed -> Confirmed balances since the maintenance.

Here you are
1. I have at risk many of my friends funds, I have my name and face at risk. I've done a mining farm project for people I know IRL.
I introduced Bitcoin to them(most of them don't have wallets yet), I spend a lot of time explaining everything and gaining their trust.
feel free to take a look, quickly jump through those pages

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aq4YXCoAvifBdGRRSk02NkZtM1FrbHN0elIwZ0t2SlE#gid=1

2. I don't make any projections, I am not a greedy person. But if someone is stealing from me, by not allowing me to even gain back what I initially invested then something is clearly wrong.

3. Easy game: noticing authorities, hiring lawyer, request refund in law manner, yifu with huge fine or behind bars with Pirateat40, new bitsyncom investor noticed about shady practices breaks the deal, Yifu stuck with outdated 40nm chips, no money and a trial.
That's what he should get for stealing from bitcoin community. For all those lies, shipping delays, alibaba chips, refund delays, calculating price based on ROI and not delivering in promised time. I still  can't understand how 1 person could scam so many people and get away with it.

He should be buried in every possible way, there is no place to show who is better person now.
For me if someone screws you and you do nothing you are either spineless or Jesus.

What a load of BS, since when does a late shipment qualify as stealing?

1469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 11, 2013, 04:43:24 AM
If we had photos now, they ought to be showing the fedex trucks in the background waiting to put the shown miners on the trucks to deliver to us, and even allowing they want to over-deliver that isn't scheduled to happen this month, right? So WTF is it you want photos of, exactly?

-MarkM-

wouldn't it be better if you had pictures of the miners and knowing the background kncminer and partners?

sounds like u are blindly defending

There info on the partners has been there for ages, you can't take a photo of something that hasn't been built yet, this is the first batch of these ASICs ever we are waiting on.

question is, can they meet the production demand of so many buyers in ~ 2 mths?
Answer is wait and see, you have no other option for that answer.

Just keep in mind that when things break down, the poll you insist on having, can become a double edged sword which cuts both ways.

(I like all of you group buy hosts and if you know the least of human nature this will obviously turn out badly for everyone involved.)

PuertoLibre = Master Avalon shill.

What BitSyncom is doing is also, or even worse than BFL...

PuertoLibre, please, put your very smart BFL threat advice to BitSyncom now...cause we have a new (scam) Champ' here Wink
Certainly from a $ dollars point of view it is.
1472  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 10, 2013, 06:38:39 AM
If you haven't watched this video, then you should. Actually I found this very impressive. Yifu obviously knows his shit" this is one of the best question and answer sessions I have seen in recent memory. I wouldn't under estimate this guy in terms of his abilty.  This was just a little over 9 weeks ago. So pull up a chair, grab a beer or coffee or both Smiley and listen to how he addresses things. Pretty darn smart for a young guy.  He has accomplished more than I first gave him credit for. Until now in my mind he was just the guy with the asic chips etc. Found this 25 minute video very interesting in many ways, in contrast to what has been being said in here. Guess if we dont like how he operates then we can always start our own asic machine building company Smiley enjoy..meet mr. yifu lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY1xgGiejIc

It's quite obvious from that video that Yufi thinks mining with the gear is more profitable than selling it, I disagree, but it may be that Avalon is far too slow at selling and building gear which leads him to that conclusion.

1473  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 10, 2013, 01:28:11 AM

There are pre-orders in video games.
That's kids, they are still learning common sense, not making investment decisions.

1474  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 10, 2013, 01:10:14 AM
This is what unregulated looks like.  Sure there are fraudsters.  Nothing stops that.  Sure there are scams.  Nothing stops that either.  But at least here you have a CHOICE.  You weren't required to trust Yifu.  You decided to.  I decided to.  We all did.  We made a mistake.  We bet on someone who didn't already iron out all the kinks.  Turns out some of those kinks were pretty solid.

Yes, Yifu made promises he couldn't keep.  So did BFL.  This isn't the first time and won't be the last.  But Jesus you all wine so much about being "scammed" when part of the reason many of you are even HERE was because you believed in unregulated markets.

Caveat Emptor, right?  Maybe this will teach us to properly vet the investments we choose to pursue.
ALL asic purchases are a gamble, especially on the said delivery window,,,,,they all suck,,,

It's because people's greed overrides common sense, in other industries you wouldn't do pre-payments  for months or year in advance! The sellers have preying on the fear of increasing difficulty to drown out logical thinking.
1475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 11:11:29 PM
I wouldn't want to be a BitSyncom employee right now, with multi million dollars worth of chips going missing, I bet some really nasty people are out for blood, hence the security precautions that they have to take now, but the monies involved are so high that they would have to close the factory and find an underground bunker!

1476  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 03:16:40 PM
The days of ASIC pre-payments are rapidly coming  to an end. One string of ripoffs after another, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

1477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 02:07:05 PM

I already replied, asking for 100k+ chips and see if thats possible. The answer should be interesting, I guess. I'll ask about proof as well as the date since they have them ready.
Lol, that's a good one, 100k might be a bit large for them, my jaw will drop if it's not.

1478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 12:25:33 PM
Their news announcement is the biggest bunch of sh*t I've every been reading, I'm in business from years and I know exactly that customs problems exist, but can be solved within 1 or 2 days if you're willing to, with legit or less legit ways, what they say is simply ridiculous.

What happened is that they decided to use the ICs from the ASIC orders batch to clear the huge waiting queue of batches 2 and 3, because this way there would have been proportionally less angry customers (one angry ASIC batch customers equals 31 angry mining rigs customers, if math is not an option).

From my point of view they lost any kind of respect and reputation and I'd never ever want to buy something again from a company that doesn't keep promises.
Sounds like nonsense to me, for two reasons, firstly you would simply order enough chips from the foundry to cover batch 2 and 3 and the bulk chip orders, ordering more is cheap compared to the initial wafer cost. Secondly the number of bulk chips on order was more than enough to cover batch 2 and 3 several times over, where is the balance of the chips if that was true?

1479  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 09:46:26 AM
The minimum that is due now:

- what is stuck in customs from where to where
- proof that chips are stuck in customs: paperwork, tracking #, etc...
- daily updates for paying customers of bitsyncom

I do believe chips being stuck in customs to be rumors? Where have you seen such statement? i have not heard this from the group buy im participating in at all..
(with 10-15 completed group buys, I find it far fetched..)

It's on the Avalon website front page ffs.
1480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 09, 2013, 05:05:47 AM
not entirely buying into the 'customs holdup' excuse.

China is #1 world exporter.  China customs cares about oppressing importers, not exporters.

Yes, importers.

Where do you think Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacture Company makes their chips?

TSMC has Fab #10 located in Shanghai:
TSMC Limited, Fab 10
4000, Wen Xiang Rd., Songjiang,
Shanghai, China

TSMC ships millions of chips per year, is it amazing how only Avalon's 200k small order of chips end up being targetted?
He knew about this weeks ago and not one word to Zefir, Steamboat, or Sebastian.  Sebastian called him TWICE an hour at everyday for quite a while, he gets no answer or gets clicked off.

I bought into Yifu's tall tales before, but enough already.

Perhaps they didn't bribe the right customs people?
