1381  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 09:24:28 PM
Last year, it would have been a killer product.  By December 2013, 600GH will be mining what 12 GH is today.

Would you pay ~5K for 12GH today?  I think the product is overpriced.  It should have been priced around $400-600.  Maybe $800, like a high end video card, IMHO.

I'm not buying.

True, always smell a trap for early adopters when you see a PCI-e card selling for thousands of dollars, it's not like the foundry charges any more for ASIC chips than other ones. As you say, the pricing should be similar to a high end video card, even though it's probably got less parts.

1382  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL totally Stupid on: August 18, 2013, 08:54:24 PM
Unfortunately, a big part of the problem is that a lot of potential BFL customers never see this forum. They never read up on BFL's actual history and shenanigans.

Some potential customer might of just heard of Bitcoin for the first time yesterday. They then google around for a few minutes, see BFL ads somewhere as they have a strong online presence, and place an order, all expecting BFL's claims to be accurate, not a bunch of lies.
Kind of serves them right for handing over thousands of dollars without doing any research first. No sympathy here.

When the investment was a few hundred for a Jalapeno you could be excused for having a gamble, now that we are talking just under $5k a lot of people will borrow for that amount, and pay interest for many months on the loan.

Remember the new BFL chips have not had tape out to the foundry yet, expect a 3-4mth. delay from tape out, for BFL to get the wafers back from the foundry, send them off to the chip packaging company, get them back, build a PCB, and build/debug a working prototype to see if it even meets the design specifications. Then they can start looking into production and shipping. I can't see that happening by Nov/Dec 2013 which their Monarch ad promises.

1383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 2GH NinjaStick USB Miner powered by Bitfury on: August 18, 2013, 01:03:48 PM
At 2BTC that's $113 per GH/s which is a total joke.

Even 1BTC you would be lucky to get any ROI by the time it ships. It needs to sell for less than 1BTC if it can't then don't start the project.

1384  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 12:48:15 PM
Hopefully a load of suckers will change their orders - if they do hopefully my Jally order will ship this year.

If people change their orders, the chances are it will be even longer before they have gear shipped, I don't see the sense in that.

It's been months now, and they still haven't shipped any 2013 orders, and they are supposed to be able to make 400 units a day! At that production claim, they should have been able to knockoff all the Jally pre-orders in a few weeks,  but they didn't, they are still shipping Dec 2012 orders!

Now they are back at square one with a new untested product, a new ASIC design that hasn't even reached tape out, as you know BFL quote 3mths. for bulk chip orders, and that's for first generation chips that were taped out at the start of the year. That means we wont see the Monarch shipping this year for sure, add to that the chip packaging and PCB factories will be shut for Xmas. It also means the people that ordered minirigs and singles in 2012 will have had their money tied up for nearly 2 years, which is kind of insane!

1385  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 10:57:15 AM
It is incredible that during all this backlog issues they still had time to work on 600GH 28nm miner.

That's because the design engineers don't assemble Jalapenos
1386  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 10:46:16 AM
The hash rate can't possibly increase by 50% per month forever. it would require exponential growth in the hash rate.

100th with 50% increase each retarget
150th added 50th
225th added 75th
337th added 112th
506th added 169th
759th added 253th
1139th added 380th
1708th added 569th

how does no one realize this?

all the people posting calculators showing this hashrate increasing at 90% per month and extrapolating a constant increase are not taking this into account.

The calculators adjust based on historical data, if the difficulty rise slows down, the calculators will adjust to reflect that. The slow down has to actually happen first, so far it has not, the difficulty rise has been accelerating.
1387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 08:56:08 AM
Bitfury  55nm 400GH/s 400watt

Imagine how they would look at 28nm.

1388  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 06:29:49 AM
I think BFL have announced 28nm product to make themselves not look obsolete against the competition.

Currently both KNCminer and Bitfury have way more efficient chips than what BFL are "shipping". We should see the KNCminer prototypes next month, if they live up to their promises, then KNCminer will gain instant customer loyalty, and not many people are going to consider BFL anymore even with this new offering, because KNCminer will be months ahead on difficulty/ROI. If KNCminer disappoint, then Bitfury will take the lead.

1389  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 06:13:50 AM

so how many revisions is this shit gonna take?

and are you really competent to design something like this?

haha, probably not...and i can safely assume your estimated power consumption gonna be off as always.
It's kind of funny that people are worried about the technicalities of a product that may never ship. There is talk of a boycott of BFL new products, I presume due to their ongoing failure to do more than a token effort at clearing their 14mth backlog as promised. It will be interesting to see what effect that has on the new product pre-orders.

1390  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 01:14:15 AM
I will never purchase a BFL product unless it is in stock and will ship within 24 hours.

Screw this pre-order scam crap...

BFL should know by now that you only get one chance to prove you can be trusted with pre-orders. A deposit perhaps, but no longer a 100% up front. If they didn't make enough profit to totally fund the 28nm production from the pre-orders for the existing products, then there is something wrong.

1391  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 17, 2013, 10:08:02 PM
Based on their track record, we wont see a working prototype this year.

This card might ship sometime next year, probably wont hit that power figure,
and might only just cover ROI at that price.

Do you really wish to tie up funds for so long?

There are a lot of ASIC vendors now, and prices are coming down.

I think the era of pre-orders is coming to an end, they need another business model.

1392  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 2 Gh/s QuickMiners by aquickcnc - Anyone try these? on: August 17, 2013, 05:10:54 PM
Looks like a scam.
1393  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: August 17, 2013, 04:15:40 PM
Is my math off, or this this much more expensive than from megabigpower or bitfurystrikesback?
Can have some numbers? Smiley

8000$ for 400GH here https://megabigpower.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=53 equals 20$ for a GH and with 16x16 = 256 chips a 31.25$ per 55nm Bitfury chip.

    * Updates Aug 8th

    • Board and Assembly prices are now up.
    • 8 chip Drillbit Board (including chips) - $300
    • 1 chip Drillbit Thumb (including chip) - $99

    [/list]

    8 chips represent 8*2.7 = 21.6GH and cost 300$ so 13.88$ for a GH or 37$ per chip.

I must admit that the OC capabilities probably make good for the up charge per chip...
I wouldn't run at 2.7GH/s just because someone has managed that on a test setup. That's a serious overclock, the chips are designed to run at around 2GH/s

if it is designed to be used with raspberry pi are we going to have instructions on how to run these boards?

I never used a raspberry pi before i am interested in learning how to use one

Have you bothered to read the first post in this thread especially the section called "Introducing the DrillBit System"

It's not designed to specifically run with a Raspberry Pi, but it can certainly be run with one. Instructions would be beyond the topic of this thread.

Any plans for a "full kit" type miner that does not require a USB connection ?
Buy a Raspberry Pi like everyone else does.
    1396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 17, 2013, 01:22:55 AM

None of this matters. Either Avalon contracted to deliver by a certain date or it didn't. If it missed that date it violated contract and can be legally held liable for damages and missing product. You are trying to frame it as if it all no big deal and everyone should just give up on trying to pursue any course of action to rectify the damages - just relax and let it all go. In the real world when people don't meet deadlines they pay for the damages.

you are doing a disservice to the Avalon customers - trying to get them to stay quiet.
You probably need to brush up on the enforcement of contracts in China.

Why do people keep saying CHINA?  Bitsyncom is a USA corporation, incorporated in the state of Nevada.  It is NOT a chinese company.
Because their press releases say "partners in mainland China" and that's where the gear is coming from.

I might as well buy one of the chips now while I still have the btc and while there are still chips lol..  Anyone know which exchange to go by? BTC-E is ~$96, Bitstamp is ~$98, and MtGox is ~$109   =/
Forget about getting money in or out of Gox in a hurry.

    Compared to what?
1400  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: NEW ASIC 10 Giga hash / sec Bitcoin miner - anybody interested ? on: August 16, 2013, 05:29:45 PM
When you have a product in hand and ready to ship, you can charge a lot and people will still buy it.

And there are names for people that buy ASICs that never make an ROI.
