I was reading through the old forum and saw that the price of spreadcoin.com used to be around 3000 euros. Now it is much cheaper - about 730 euros!

https://www.godaddy.com/domains/searchresults.aspx?checkAvail=1&domainToCheck=spreadcoin.com

But, what if we change the name at some point?

About 3 months after Darkcoin was launched, I did my homework before investing serious time and effort into supporting Darkcoin. Here were my conclusions on their weaknesses and what they needed to do to improve on the weaknesses:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=579976.0

I think I pretty much nailed it, given where the project is today. Name got changed; they are working on apps (finally got there after about 14 months of me harassing and then joining SPR to focus on apps); and there is a bigger team enabling work to be carried out in parallel.

So, I'm willing to bet that Spreadcoin will get a name change at some point. It will just need a period of time before it becomes evident why, and what the name options will be.

I don't see why we should change the coin's name. Spreadcoin is nice, I personally love the ticker, the associated color and the logo. For me, the whole branding is good.

If there's ever a name change voting, my choice would be of naming it "datum" (with ticker DATA) Wink

Lol, you did actually nail it.  Spot on.

I actually loved finding this little piece of Bitcoin gold:

Pay to IP address.  No wonder it got silently dropped as a feature. lol

SPR's new name, if it were to be anointed with one, would certainly have to have some meaning behind it associated with its desired purpose. (i.e. DASH = Digital Cash)

What do you see the coexistence of DASH and SPR looking like in the near(ish) future?

P.S. now I want chocolate  Undecided

Can service nodes pay in chocolate???

I'm not saying the name will change, but I think it will become likely. My best guess, at the moment, is to look at what Georgem has been posting about in terms of further off future direction. Hosting multiple blockchains; decentralized search; decentralized exchange; etc. How is any of this spreading anything?

When you get past the decentralized mining at the heart of the project, it's more about services and applications than solo mining. Decentralized mining is an essential component, but if that were the only big feature, the project would already be in the top 10.

The name "dash" certainly helps to convey the project's intended purpose.  Unfortunately, it's far from a unique identifier.  Searching for dash in google yields ~10 items before dash.org.  Hopefully a spreadcoin name change would take that into consideration.

Given today is presidents day in the states, any chance of a state of service nodes address?  Smiley

Yes, please!!

I rather like the name Fulcrum if the community ever agreed that the current name weren't viable in the future.

However, I really do like Spreadcoin and would be sort of sad to see it changed. We shall see what course it takes!

I would support a name change if it's the right one.

It's still early for Spreadcoin, so a name change sooner
rather than later would be a good idea.

A few name ideas...

1. Intersection
2. Residents
3. Sphere
4. Hub

If there will ever be a namechange then it will be based on our activities.
Much like dash went from Xcoin to darkcoin to dash based on the evolution it went thru.

I think "spread" is a cool meme that we have now 100% incorporated.

It's not about giving this baby a name. It's about finding a "job description" for our project as we move into the future. And naturally this might change over time.

I'm not sure we'll call ourselves spreadCOIN all the time, but something "spread"y it will be.

I make no secret that I'm impatient and wish things moved more quickly but at the same time I'm very grateful that Georgem is coding from scratch and not just reusing code from another project.

Once first testnet is running, code will be on Github and more devs can join the party.

It has been a long time since Spreadcoin could be considered a simple copy and paste from Darkcoin.
