Opening post looks promising. Will it be possible to host website on the blockchain and call them through a Siacoin-like browser? This would be awesome!

I downloaded the "win32" wallet and im promted with an error when i try to unpack "win32".
"Destination path too long" node_modules lib test
The wallet starts instantly but some tabs in the wallet do not work.
I have exactly the same problem, as you can see in my post above. Does the peers tab seem to be the only working tab for you?
The problem is that on Windows, filenames can only be up to (I think) 255 characters or so. Inside of Sia, there are a bunch of folders, so the bottom level file name is C:\Stuff\MoreStuff\Sia\Windows\resources\default_app\node_modules\grunt-download-atom-shell\node_modules\github-releases\... Until we have a fix, it should work if you use a shorter path for C:\Stuff\... You might want to just give it it's own folder at C:\Sia. Im shocked at how quick the wallet loads up! Is that normal?
Yes, but only because the testnet was reset a few weeks ago. There are only 1600 blocks right now and probably 400 transactions. Things will slow down as the blockchain grows. Opening post looks promising. Will it be possible to host website on the blockchain and call them through a Siacoin-like browser? This would be awesome!
You could! It would end up like Freenet, where all pages were static. More likely though, you'd fetch webpages from a standard server, and then the embedded content (javascript libraries, images, videos, audio, etc.) would be fetched from Sia.

ill look at setting this up tomorrow when im reasonably coherent and not wanting to fall asleep on the keyboard - like now ...
i like the premise of the coin and what it could achieve ...
mining is our forte here - so an optimized miner ( like ccminer-spmod - and sgminer-dev ) would go down a treat also ...
im still unsure what the algo actually is ... blake is the only one i know of that is actually optimized now with sp's ccminer fork ...
anyway - lets do this ...

What percentage of the total coins will be mined by the devs in the first 100 blocks?
The first 100 blocks will mine 29,995,050 coins. The first 50,000 blocks (about 1 year) will mine 13,750,025,000 coins. Out of the first year, we will premine ~0.2% of the coins.Sia adds coins to the total every time a block is mined, indefinitely. After 1 year, the inflation rate will be about 95%. After 5 years, the inflation rate will be 6% (this is much lower than Bitcoin's current inflation rate.). After 6 years, the inflation rate reduces to about 3%. It will remain near 3% for many years after that, dropping very slowly. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=best+fit+line+%5B1%2C0.955%5D%5B2%2C0.420%5D%5B3%2C0.233%5D%5B4%2C0.131%5D%5B5%2C0.060%5D%5B6%2C0.03404%5D%5B7%2C0.033%5D%5B8%2C0.0325%5Dtrying to get OSX to work.. the link says Sia-UI-v0.3.0-beta-darwin but the atom app is labelled Sia Version 0.20.7 and no menus in the app work.
Ok. It looks like we forgot to update the version number on the UI. You have the correct file. Maybe the menus are not working because your internet connection is bad? Unfortunately, things don't work if you don't have an internet connection. We are working on fixing this (you won't be able to download blocks, but at least the menus won't be broken). Sometimes it also just takes 30 seconds or so to load. If it's taking longer than that, you should try restarting it. Thanks for trying us out. Sorry it's not as smooth as it should be. We will push updates shortly.

Try unzipping the download at C:\ I believe the problem is that some of the files could not be unzipped because their names were too long. This shouldn't be a problem if you unzip at C:\

Hi all, Luke here (co-founder). Just chiming in to say thanks for testing the beta. Please check out Sia's GitHub page, especially the Issues section, where you can read and submit bug reports. If you encounter a bug, I recommend checking there first to see if someone else had the same problem. Since this is a testnet, the default storage cost is really cheap, but you'll still need some money. Mining 1 block should give you enough SC to play around with for a while, but you won't get the block reward until 50 blocks later. If you want a few coins fast, shoot me a message with your address and I'll send you some. btw: we've always pronounced Sia with a long 'i' ("Sigh-uh", not "See-uh"). Just in case you were wondering Interesting, are the files are encrypted on the host? I mean if I submitted a files to a host will he or anyone else be able to see what it is?
Yes, fully encrypted using Twofish. No one can see your files.

We will push updates shortly. I dont see any peers, and once I click down to the network manager tab, its basically frozen. I see 316 bytes out and 462 rcvd. but nothing moves even after 3 or 4 minutes. I'm gonna leave it while longer, I'm seeing CPU usage, faults and system calls in the activity monitor.

In the final wallet, will there be a default suggested fee for giving away space storage? Otherwise, how should we know the value of the space storage that one would share?

Taek, would be great if you can produce a redemption list, just so we can confirm our transfers went through prior to launch.

on the OP- As security is a top priority of Sia, all encryption is performed locally; the people storing your files will have no ability to see what you have uploaded. Not only is every file encrypted separately, every *piece* of every file is encrypted separately, and hosts are not told which pieces are part of the same file.

Apologies everyone, we discovered a cross-compilation bug that affected the Windows and OS X versions of Sia. This happened because we do all our development on Linux. In future releases we will perform more thorough cross-platform testing to catch these sorts of bugs. If you are using Windows or OS X and Sia is not working properly, it's probably due to this bug. Unfortunately, this means that you will have to redownload Sia. The download links have been updated to their respective patched versions. Thanks for bearing with us as we roll out this release. In the final wallet, will there be a default suggested fee for giving away space storage? Otherwise, how should we know the value of the space storage that one would share?
Yes, there is a default listed on the "Hosting" page. The field is misleading though, because it says SC, when it's actually "base units" (1/10^24th of a SC). So the current default (1000000000) is actually a very small fraction of 1 SC. This value will likely be changed once we're off the testnet.

This value is automattically adjust with a base multiplier with unit of (1/(MB*day))? Im not so sure how fee to share data space will be done. And what is the time percentage a host need to be online in order to be paid? I mean surely downtime are allowed, but what is the threshold. TY
