I also aggre that Decred will rise. I suggest also looking at MaidSafe and perhaps Etherium (still).

I think Ethereum is the best altcoin for longer term. After the price rise, it has enough funding to develop the coin for a bit longer.

Silkcoin will give you the quickest return for 2016, but if you want to do better long term, go for NEM or NXT.

Look at the top 15 in market cap at CoinMarketCap.com then do your own research. Read the developer threads and decide what altcoins serve unique purposes and are likely to grow. I like the promise Ether holds and Monero is the most private coin and I think is undervalued. You don't have to invest in altcoins at all, holding bitcoin is fine, so make sure you have done your research before you invest in a coin that is riskier than bitcoin.

Too late to buy ETH, the dump has just begun, price decrease of -26% (in the last 24 h).

If you want to buy cheap and sell high, buy NXT as soon as possible. It's really underpriced.

I think you would want to buy when the price is cheaper, not higher? Anyway, I agree ETH might have some more downside to it and it would be better to get a sense of where the new bottom will be before buying in.

I haven't looked into NXT much. I might check it out after typing this.

Clam or Etherium would be nice but I more prefer ETH because of the pump this past few weeks. I guess as of now eth is the most blatant altcoin.

What is the main benefit of Decred? Just the PoW + PoS, new funding model? Or any other features?

ETH FCT MAID XMR VNL DCR XEM. Most of these are already up a substantial % since altcoins started gearing up around December'15 or Jan'16, but this move probably still has legs with the environmental conditions being a hotbed for altcoin pumps at least for the next 4-5 months.

Maybe BTS STR XRP will also go for another big run up this year?

Yup, that's what I'm thinking as well so I stopped buying ETH until it goes down back to the 1.2m sats level or even lower. I just hope that it will not go up to another price range for me to be able to buy.
