Actually, that is the reason why Bayern Munich could be the first team if Germany for years. Their strategy is to target the strongest competitors they have in Bundesliga and then they find the key players in that team to send offers for the players even if they don't need the player but as you said Bayern Munich is the only team in Germany they have enough financial resources to do that, now we see Dortmund is racing with then in the league nad they probably will start sending offers for their players soon.

At this point I think football has really just distilled down to idols and the amount of money that rich people are willing to spend to buy those idols for their team. Do not get me wrong, legends are legends and there are good reasons for that. No everyone can do what Ronaldo did in his continuing years of fame. But that does not justify having him on your team NOW. There are younger and cheaper upcoming legends.

Basically the man reason I avoid betting on "big names".

The probability of them being overshadowed by new, younger talent goes up every year. But the problem is that new talent is hard to market and therefore makes little money.

Personally, I don't think Union Berlin will be champion in this season. That seems unlikely to me. This group is not weak. However, the team's performance suddenly dropped. There are some things I don't agree with about this.

If we refer to the temporary standings, the hunt for the Bundesliga trophy feels very competitive than before. Simultaneously, there are three teams that have the same points. Bayern, Dortmund, Union Berlin, are competing for the league championship trophy this season.

Speaking of Dortmund, in the second half of this season, Dortmund appeared very impressive than before. Edin Terzic was able to bring his team to perform much better with a positive trend, they were able to wipe out their 8 matches in all competitions with a win. this move, bringing Dortmund closer to the league trophy.

On the other hand, Urs Fischer was able to restore the performance of his troops in the second half of the season. Union Berlin progressed with a pretty good performance, they have played 9 matches without defeat. and currently, Union Berlin is one of the challengers that has the potential to get rid of the ranking occupied by Bayern Munich.

At this stage the competition won't be easy for any of these three at the top having the same point. The competition will be very tense , my fear about Bayern Munich is injury challenge of their players, I don't know if they can scale through by having more points.  Bayern Munich won't be able to get points to lead the league, I believe Dortmund is the next team to lead because they are becoming consistent in the games. Gladbach needed luck but so does every team against Bayern. Dortmund are the only team that can compete against them on paper but Bayern are still better. Mainz will probably try a similar tactic.
